DAY 816

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

Posted on: July 15, 2010 - 12:19 am

Prateeksha , Mumbai                          July  14,  2010                        Wed  11 : 45 PM

It is the time of night when the FmXt beckons . It is the time of night I look forward to. It is the time of night ..

Twitter may be instant and rapid and immediate and greatly universal and internal. But this space has the serene gentleness of a rain drenched flower, the peace and harmony of civilized neutrality, the reaching out capability of the morning sun - the calmness of its setting. It has the subtle touch of that soft wave that smoothes out as it touches the sand banks of a long and lonely beach. It has the vivacity and passion of youth ; it has the wisdom of age. It has incongruity at times and distinctness. It allows for thought to exist, mature and develop. It has the reason of care and love. It has the objectivity and demand to be expressed and heard. It has solitude in a crowded market and the heart beat of millions.

It has you.

Communication has become a second profession. An instrument of an instrument. It exists every nano second of our lives now and continues to add reinvent discover fresh and novel ideas for its use. What a fascinating world we live in. Moving from one end of living to another has become a physical exercise put to and managed by another. But what used to be our own involvement in the process of travel or a shift or a trip, has now incorporated an aspect that never was with us - the mode of communication.

You sit in a conference and encounter an information that needs verification. It is in the palm of your hand that does it. You travel distances but with the comfort that you will never be too far from a connect or a connect to information. Look at the reassurance we possess today. Look at how so many of our insecurities, issues and immediate decisions have been converted into the simplicity of a gadget that is operational by just thumbing a few letters.

I drove down this evening towards South Mumbai, which I now address as SoMu, ( to be in line with the modern way of thinking in bringing every aspect of life to an abbreviation ) and the one and a half hour journey has passed by as though it never happened. The mobile hand set has kept me occupied, apart from the odd query from the wife sitting beside me, in overcoming the anxiety of traffic and piled up vehicles. It has also made me oblivious to the many changes that I see as I drive through my own city. I have not been to this part of the world in a while and the infrastructural changes that have taken place suddenly seem as though I was in another place, not of my knowing.

Its Bastille Day today the French National Day and the reception to celebrate it, has been organized by the French Consulate at the Taj - the Hotel which remains vivid in our memory of the 26/11 terror attack. It is back to being functional and the atmosphere and energy that always symbolized this great landmark, is back. Back too is the restrictions to movement through intricate security checks, a mandatory necessity in almost all vulnerable facilities. It hinders the welcome look of a public area, but it has become a part of our feature of life. Better be prepared than repaired.

Th evening is a crowded affair. They make guest of honor. There is protocol and formality. There is the National Anthem of both countries. There are speeches. Speeches of desires to fructify, come together, hold hands, move forward. There is tons of champagne and glitterati. There is society.

In my speech I mention the greetings expressed by those following me on twitter for the French and I deviate from my words of building national and international friendship, to mentioning the gestures from the world of tweet - and there is huge applause. There is applause for multicultural existence and there is applause on the mention of today July 14th and the victory of the Kargil War fought hard and bravely in 1999 by our forces in the North. The sacrifices made by our jawans to protect the nation, to protect us and our future generations.

bas-1

Tomorrow I start rehearsals for KBC .. just getting the hang of things to come, the innovations and the formats. There is still time for its inception, but better to do it now and get acclimatized, than make mistakes later on ..

In remembrance of Bastille Day, the national Day of France 14th July

In remembrance of the victory day for the Kargil War, fought hard and against all odds by our brave jawans up in the Himalayas against those that wanted to occupy our territory, on the 14th July 1999

Love and much more to all ..

Amitabh Bachchan

    My respectes to you Prabhu,

Hope you had great time at Bastille Day. How lovely you mentioned and wishes tweet follower to france. You are the best.

Kaalia,Shehanshah,Agneepath,Hum many movie you did with Shri Tinu Anand..Such a great human. I always love his work and his admiration for you….Here is what Tinu Anand ji shared about your quality Privately charitable person.

    ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
Shri Tinu Anand about Mr.Bachchan -

Most people do not know he is a very charitable person, a very privately charitable person. He would not like it to be known that he helped someone. But now that the person is not alive any more, I don’t think I am bound to keep my mouth shut.

Filmmaker Khwaja Ahmad Abbas had introduced him to films. When he was very, very ill and had no money Amitabh took me aside and gave me money to look after Abbas. He made me promise I would not tell anyone that he had done this.

He didn’t want it mentioned even to his family that Amitabh had provided for Abbas. That brought tears to my eyes. That to me is a very great gesture.People don’t know he has a great sense of fun. Like when he has any new person working with him, he loves making them uncomfortable. He tries to be friendly but at the same time, he enjoys making the person uncomfortable. I have worked with him so often that I see through it.

I don’t think anyone can really claim to be a really close friend of Amitabh Bachchan. There are so many things people don’t know, even I don’t know. He has a few people who are close and he likes it that way.

He has been extra kind to me, very charitable. He has given me 24 wristwatches. He loves wristwatches. I don’t think there is any shop in the world which has as many watches as he has. I keep eyeing his wrist every time we meet. He keeps covering his wrist, saying. ‘This is not going to be yours.’

    Boss -

You did a great job in supporting a fellow actor when he was judged wrongly. I know the media will pounce on this issue but what is important is to stand by your fraternity when they are wrongly accused. I hope other actors and even people like me who read news on the internet learns from this experience. Good job!!

  9. Komal from Santa Monica, CA. USA says:

There is a lot of bad rep going around as far as Media is concerned, perhaps justly so, and this phenomena seems universal. We can blame the whole wide world but when are we, the people, who put the t.v on and allow ourselves and our children to watch all those trashy shows in our own living rooms, going to take the responsibility? As long as there is Demand, there sure is going to be Supply. Instead of “Reporting the News” these days, it has become more like “Making the News” and sensationalizing it to cater the viewer’s needs. Reporters harp on the story without even checking all the facts. There is a very little dignity and integrity left when it comes to reporting the core news. It’s amazing to see how some self proclaimed top notch channels even allow guys like Prabhu Chawla to interview people. The man does totally the opposite of an expert Host is supposed to do. Instead of making the guest feel comfortable and relaxed enough to open up, he immediately puts them on the Defense, makes them feel uncomfortable and tense. In many occasions, the guy is down right bully and insulting. He seems to be embellishing the guest’s bad news with his own sort of sickening agenda.

When the Indian viewers rise to the higher standard and demand factual stories and refuse to put up with stories which are created around rumors, gossip and hearsay, change will happen and it has to happen. Especially when the circumference of their so called news, expands only as far as Cricket and Bollywood. Thanks to the multiple outlets the celebrities are using these days to reach out to the public directly, there isn’t much left for the media to report. Public is getting the no twist, no spin and raw dose of Tit-Bits straight from the horse’s mouth, what the media to do?, either to shape up or pack up. It’s about time for the media to pay attention to the regular folks, their daily lives and the issues concerning them. India is a culturally rich country with over one Billion people in its kitty, there got to be interesting things happening to them now and then worth reporting, don’t you think?

Glad the French thing went ok. I wish you good luck with the rehearsals for KBC!! CANT WAIT!!

It saddens me when I read about war memorials, such distress and the need for peace beckons even more. I wish there is a day when not a single gun shot is fired or a bomb heard…all we can do is pray.

And my prayers Amitji are with you, may God keep you happy and smiling always.

    Dear Mr. Bachchan

Loved your description of the blog and I guess it has all the qualities you describe because it has you as its helm. I too look forward to your new post everyday and it usually happens when I am home, sipping my coffee after a hard day at work. Reading the post and the responses somehow strengthens my belief in human kind ( not so much when you criticize the media though) but all in all it is a truly great experience being here. Take care, with peace and love

Thank you for that wonderful description of this space as opposed to Twitter. You have such a way with descriptive words. Yes, you have me here forever.

And thanks for sending that photograph. I know at least several of us were curious to know what you were wearing at that function. You look so suave with that yellow or golden shirt and tie.

It is a shame that there has to be so much security to get through these days. I’m not looking forward to that when I leave for San Francisco tomorrow morning.

I’m glad you enjoyed the function although it was crowded. I suppose you did not partake of any of the tons of champaign.

I was called by the Brooklyn Cyclones to through out the first pitch before the game tomorrow night. When I told them I’d be away, they asked me to do it on 7/21. I have to get some practice throwing a baseball now somehow.

Good luck for the KBC rehearsals. Even if you were thrown into it without them, I’m sure you wouldn’t make any mistakes! I wonder what kind of innovations there are.

I must get ready for my trip but first there is a baseball game to attend.

    Love the incongruous,
    Rochelle

    Hi Amitji,

Good Luck for the rehearsals for KBC4 tomorrow.

I saw your letter to Kishorebhai and the Big B Group on Facebook. I wrote a letter 31st March and did not receive a reply, but I wait in hope that you find the time to respond. When I get time again, I will write again.

I am anxious to know why Johnny Mastana still has not been released, any date pencilled in yet?

  27. Satyam says:

a piece I put up elsewhere:

    That’s Entertainment!

A platitude keeps creeping up all the time. About movies as entertainment. A certain dissonance is introduced between cinema as artistic ‘object’ or one of thought and the mundane category of entertainment. In one corner of the ring the high art of cinema, in the other the low. And it is a struggle as we will soon learn! The ‘entertainment’ side of the opposition is always presented in banal fashion, as completely ‘neutral’. It is then equated with the idea of a majority vote in a bit of circular logic. What ‘everyone’ (the majority audience) likes is of course ‘entertaining’ and because a film was ‘entertaining’ in the first place it appealed to everyone! This is a bit like suggesting a politician was popular because he or she won the election. The figure of the politician will also turn out to be a necessary one. Because as we will also learn very shortly this entire debate has a political coding through and through.

To think that there is something called ‘entertainment’ in the text of a film that is completely unrelated to the film’s narrative themes or its ‘politics’ or its ‘aesthetics’ is the worst kind of obfuscation. Note how people often refer to the lack of entertainment in a film almost exclusively with certain kinds of cinema. This complaint is often heard when it is the Raavan kind of film, never when it is the Kites sort. The former is of course ‘alternative’ cinema in some sense and certain characterizations are immediately attached to it (boring, dry, confusing and so forth). The latter though operates in an already authorized genre which is supposed to have ‘entertainment’ built into the system. Hence here when the reviewing is negative other terms have to be used to criticize the film.

This entire opposition essentially derives from a bourgeois ‘ordering’ which is of course the only one represented not only in the traditional media but also the online variety. All these perspectives emerge from the very same resource of opinion which accounts for their hegemony. There are no real alternatives. Once upon a time when the ‘art movement’ took hold in Hindi cinema the adjectives I have just outlined were more or less the ones used for this cinema. A poor commercial film that no one likes or enjoys is never considered boring. It is only supposedly an example of ‘bad’ cinema. But alternative films can be boring even when they are dimly seen as ‘worthwhile’. Let me finally break the news here — there is no such thing as ‘entertainment’. One can be ‘entertained’ by movies which is really about a level of pleasure one derives from any work. But there is nothing called ‘entertainment’ embedded in a film that gives an audience a certain ‘fix’ and in turn satisfaction.

I shall begin again with two examples. I found it very hard to sit through Kal Ho Na Ho the first time around. I went a second time as a favor to someone and slept through most of the film. Some years prior to these I saw Dil Se three times in the theater without being bored even for a single minute in any of the viewings. Sadly I was in the minority as I have indeed been with films like Thakshak or Dev or Mangal Pandey and more recently Delhi 6 and Raavan. If I were occupying the 1970s (which to my eternal regret I do not) I would have proved to people how films with greater substance and certainly much greater political edge usually outgrossed the merely escapist flicks. People in that period of Hindi cinema were usually not entertained as much by fluff. They expected and demanded narratives that extracted a certain emotional investment and ‘cost’ from them. The ‘cathartic’ is that which always leaves one with a wound. Today (which is to say since the 1990s even if thankfully we have exited the worst of that phase) it is the opposite. The cinema usually considered most entertaining is one in which the audience skits on the surface of things without ever getting invested in any sense. A total horror of the film that tries to startle the audience, or even move it too deeply, let alone disturb it profoundly. An audience that does not wish its political veins to be touched. Why politics?

Entertainment is an ‘ideological’ category through and through. There is no ‘truth’ to such a noun beyond the index it provides of ideological choices. What we like in cinema we call ‘entertainment’. The standards of what an audience finds entertaining differ so drastically from age to age that there simply could not be nominated that one set called ‘entertainment’ which would contain a list of features equally applicable in every age in terms of gauging popular taste. Most audiences today who do not have any exposure to the riches of the past would find it quite impossible to sit through many Dilip Kumar classics that once enthralled an entire generation of movie-goers. The films work very differently in terms of their pacing, narrative elements and so forth. These would be and are often deemed ‘boring’ by contemporary audiences. The reverse is also true (even if bankruptcy exists only on one side of this equation).

‘Entertainment’ is the seemingly neutral, inoffensive term favored by bourgeois audiences to define films that they support in any given age. The opposite set is comprised of films that subvert the ideological choices encoded in the ‘authorized’ one (the films that are always ‘entertainment’). Any audience can never find a film entertaining the worldview of which it cannot digest. Some audiences are just better in this regard than others. A 70s ‘rickshawala’ to use the old cliche showed much greater sophistication than the 90s ‘auntie’ (my own ‘completion’ of the same cliche). Not because that older cinema was ‘greater’ in every respect but for the far less commonly understood reason that in that earlier age the biggest box office successes were often the better films if not indeed the best ones. If one examined for example Amitabh Bachchan’s career in that period one would note that actually his strongest films did the best, not necessarily the weaker ones that were also otherwise successes. ‘Strong’ here simply means a narrative less ‘escapist’ than another and insistent on more ‘engagement’ by the audience. In other words the ‘rickshawala’ was sophisticated enough to understand the distinction between Trishul and Khoon Pasina. This refinement was nowhere in evidence in the 1990s where even for that same conservative counter-reactionary ideological matrix (which I otherwise loathe) much better films could have been fostered. I often come across cinema where the ‘politics’ repels me but where I also have to admit the strengths of the films at other levels. But let’s get back to ‘entertainment’!

Clearly the ‘entertainment’ standards are different for every age. This is only natural. But describing everything that does not conform to one’s sense and expectation of cinema as ‘non-entertainment’ is another matter. The bourgeois framework as I have been pointing out tries to delegitimize films that it cannot authorize not by ignoring them or even criticizing them but by introducing a new vocabulary for them. It is important for this ‘order’ to perform a move whereby the subversive work is not really seen as one in the overall set of choices for ‘entertainment’ but one that exists on the other side of the latter as the ‘boring’, ‘confusing’ work and so on. Notice how commonly it is said today that a film did not ‘connect’. This too is enunciated in certain contexts far more than others if not exclusively. Whatever the dominant bourgeois hegemony in a certain period ‘likes’ as cinema it also ‘authorizes’ as ‘entertainment’. Everything else is then banished from this realm where it exists in a black hole worthy of the attention of minorities who can then be called ‘out of the mainstream’ or ‘elitist’ or worse still ‘intellectuals’ (usually a term of abuse in India as it also is in the US).

Amitabh Bachchan offered the most formidable challenge to this bourgeois hegemony by doing films that this segment of his audience found hard to absorb but which were also such miracles of script-writing that really for the first and only time in the history of Hindi cinema such ‘obstacles’ were overcome. But this audience also could not stop hating Bachchan or at least being suspicious of him for what he forced them to watch! Today it is another audience vastly more hostile than the one in the 70s and another Bachchan vastly less fortunate in the script-writers his industry produces. Hence the bourgeois order can drive itself to hysteria with his subversion, his failures. All in the name of ‘entertainment’. Raavan will not have been ‘entertainment’. It will have been ‘dry’, ‘boring’, ‘confusing’, ‘not for the masses’.. a long laundry list.

Bourgeois audiences also have this complex. They indulge in all this labeling, all these ideological tricks in the name of the other, in this case the ‘masses’ or the ‘common man’. The dominant ideological choices of this class are presented in altruistic terms as simply enabling the ‘entertainment’ of the ‘masses’. It is never for oneself that one wants ‘entertainment’, only for the unfortunate other who depends on such escapist cinema. Much as one rarely rejects the subversive, alternative film in one’s own name. One insists that it is not for the ‘others’. ‘Bachchan’ is the exception to this rule, the name of that which can be resisted without recourse to the other. When a ‘traitor’ arises from within your class you must tackle him head-on! Why cannot Abhishek also be another ‘boy from Bandra’ doing multiplex films just like all his other peers? In the decade of the 70s at least this hypocrisy had a referent. Today it is rich irony to witness the bourgeois classes most responsible for the decimation of the entertainment of this ‘other’ (masses, B or C centers, single screens in A centers etc), responsible for the extinction of a cinema which formed the true dreamscape for so many such audiences, get up and posit ‘entertainment’ in the name of the ‘majority’. First neuter the space on which an ideological counter-balance might be produced, then pretend that what the other wanted all along was only one’s own politics! There is that other connected refrain — only certain kinds of films run! Yes of course! After one has eliminated the opposition only one party wins! Even as India democratizes in many ways (a move also not favored by the same bourgeois order.. note the disdain with which certain emancipatory political movements of the hinterland are held as opposed to those fascist administrators who are celebrated in metropolitan centers) and even as there is all this talk of ‘opening up’ it is rather sadly instructive to observe how the most democratic art form there has ever existed is appropriated by these same upwardly mobile classes, enabled by the economies of the ‘new India, and converted into its despotic opposite. Cinema only for the classes! The rest of you will never afford it, even if you do you will never find the subjects to your liking! We will call this cinema ‘refined’ and ‘sophisticated’, pretend this is an advance on the riches of the past (when other than technological gadgetry, which is not the same as cinematic vision, even ‘technical’ vision, we have nothing to put up against the triumphs of the past, except those few exceptions that we tear down as soon as they are released!) and chide those ‘masses’ for not getting better educated in these matters, those very ‘masses’ that we will occasionally becomes ourselves when it is a question of battling those evil intellectuals who make and support films like Raavan! And these intellectuals are so ungrateful. We have allowed them a space in our multiplex system to make minor and more minor films and do whatever they want but they insist on these large scale films to challenge ours. They even dare to keep losing money on them. Do they not even care for those ‘nice distributors’ whose livelihoods they are ruining? This is why India needs us. We take care of everyone — our families, our distributors’ families and we also fumigate when we spot the infection of subversive cinema! We will save India yet! Let’s round up all the subversives! Where’s Abhishek?

  33. Satyam says:

Interesting and reflective post. We live in the age of ‘hyper’ communication. What is really being communicated all the time is less certain to me. There should be a place in life for silence and these technologies have almost made such a space non-existent which also means incidentally that ‘imagination’ suffers. And yes these technologies can be carried around everywhere, a kind of ‘home’ no matter where one is. But then again the strangeness of the ‘foreign’ is further reduced.

The social networking phenomenon is deeply problematic. One understands all the charm and yet isn’t this (as you’ve alluded to) the enemy of every kind of conversation that aims to be thoughtful, comprehensive, and so on. In other words ‘conversation’ is that which is not possible on twitter and the like. What you do get is a set of decontextualized remarks that can exchanged among people. But also the thrill of eavesdropping. So if you’re talking to Shammi Kapoor I can ‘listen in’.

The technology manufactures a certain sort of ‘communication’, whether one is better of for it is questionable. Certainly the time that could be spent elsewhere presumably on something more important or more interesting is compromised this way. Why read a book if we can twitter away throughout the day? The same goes for other arts. Technology creates a madly distracted population with limited attention spans who constantly need audio-visual stimuli to keep going every day. These social networking sites just add to the mix.

I think there are serious consequences to all of this. Not least being the degree to which one’s reflective abilities and certainly the time to set forth on such reflection is deeply compromised. A problem for imaginative life but also for democratic life both of which demand attention and reflection.

It must have been a wonderful evening and hope you had a wonderful time.

I have to say this - I love the collage of your photographs - each I look at it, I find something new - some where are you belligerent, some where you ravishing, some simply handsome, some where you are cocky LOL - I love it and I love looking at it.

Keep smiling always dear dear Amitji

    Love

Amitji, love your paragraph about this space. All your metaphors are so apt and evocative: something like “ek ladki ko dekha to aisa laga, jaise…….”

    Loved it. Thank you.

And love the photograph. VERY SMART.

More later, after reading more of your post. First hurry to convey to you:

    Love, love, love,

I shall endeavour to strike the odd note of incongruity to add to this delightful hullaballoo! :)

With regards to the structural differences you mention because you don’t go through that part of your own city, even if I’ve been down a street hundreds of times, if I see a new business going up, I can never remember what was there before (unless I have actually frequented the establishment). I think I’m usually in a fog and my memory is shot!

What a lovely description of our place.. just reading it over and over again, and feel love and passion is increasing in my heart… is that what you feel towards this marvelous medium.. towards us… ? it is fabulous.. it is marvelous … it is beyond description… it is all what love about… it is all about YOU and the immense passion we load for YOU in our hearts.. !!

Hey… you are really making me so emotional… and i love it… but tell me how to relax my brain and how to slow down the sound of drums of the crazy heart beats and how to calm down the rapid pulses .. i smell the scent of love.. and the essence of those rain drenched flowers.. i love this atmosphere… love all what you had described .. the rising and setting sun, the sands and waves at the lonely beach.. and i love YOU.

Lovely photo… i don’t remember how many times i told you how a stunning , gorgeous and charming you are… you are more beautiful than that description.. God bless you..

Few hours and another tour will start.. few hours and i will be leaving to travel all over the country in 6 days… i shall never be away from you.. but since i shall be logging in via mobile, so the comments would be short and just greetings ( i hear a sigh of relief.. ;) ) … can’t stand to be away from your company… may god never deprive me from such a blessing.

Thank you so much for sharing with us the lovely details of your evening and all the best for KBC..

    My dearest Mr. Bachchan,

And before anything else this medium has YOU…as it is the time of night when we look forward for our daily little talk with you.
and iam so delighted that it has never lost its captivating charm which attracts you to it, in the presence of the other enticing medium that is twitter..
I might be repeating myself again and again…but for me the blessings of these various methods and gadgets of communications is that it made possible my traveling of long distances and cross borders and connect to you..

Thank you for posting that great photo of you at tonight’s event…and iam glad you had a pleasant evening. That’s a sweet gesture to mention the sacrifices made by the men of your country at that same date which coincides with the date of the Bastille Day, and also your gesture to mention all the greetings came on twitter.

I wish you all best of luck tomorrow with the rehearsals for KBC.

    Sleep well lovely Mr. B…

Lena, good luck on the German visa. And clever you, what you are going to be busy with for the month of August. Polina will miss you so!
Mithai, nice to hear from you. It’s been a while.
Anat, good girl. Your strength through this is admirable. I guess we have the ability of coping mechanism. God saw to that. And if not for man’s sins according to Genesis, we would not have this imperfect world. And bad things do not necessarily happen to bad people. It is truly a test of strength and fortitude.
Angel, sleep well. You take care of yourself. Do not beat yourself about this. I have no idea what you were on about anyway. Hindi malu nahin, I think!
Subhaaash Kaura, you are back with us for how long? And after how long? Good to see you here. AB, meet your old EF Subhash again.
    Sumit Goyal, thanks.
Anupam, add the person, say for example AB, by clicking on Follow on Twitter. When you want to write to AB on twitter, use his Tweet name @srbachchan and then write a short message. At least I hope my explanation makes sense. I have not double checked. And if you wish to know if someone has written to you, click on your name on the right.
Sameer, thanks for the information about Dengue fever in Florida. I needed to be aware of this. My daughter is working there at Epcot for the summer. And if the fever is spreading northwards, my son in NY needs to know too.
My cousin aged 43 died last year in Kerala with dengue fever. He lived three houses away from my dad who also contracted dengue at the same time. I raced homewards to nurse my then 91 year-old dad and attend my cousin’s funeral fearing the worst for dad. But by God’s grace, he survived this.
I have passed the news to hubby too.
Honest, this blog is great for current affairs and the latest news too.

Mr. Bachchan, two days ago I found interesting informations about the innovations concerning to the german “Who wants to be a Millionaire” in my newspaper: instead of 10 people there will be only 5 women and men in the first circle of the game! The chance to become a candidate is twice as high!
How is it in KBC, unfortunately I haven’t watched the first part of the indian show!? Are there any innovations planned for you after your abstinent time from TV?

…my best wishes for a good night and a successful day tomorrow!

Dearest Anat, It took me ages to figure out what has been happening to you, dearest. Not Again!!!!! Please do not lose hope. Think positive. What is not meant to be, leave it and start again. My deepest feeling for you and your Hubby and the rest of the family. I have still not been able to know what has happened but I can figure it out.
I went to see someone at the hospital today, who has kidney problems and even if she is on holiday ( she is from Mumbai ) she spends every alternate day in hospital for kidney dialysis. I was shocked to see so many people in that unit, all on dialysis. Please, may the Almighty give you strength to bear the sorrow.
My work commitments does not allow me to read the comments everyday. A lot of my colleagues have taken holidays so I have been helping to cover for them. One of them has gone home to see his elderly parents in Tunisia, another one is going to Canada to celebrate the engagement of her son. The girl’s parents are in Canada, and so an official engagement will take place in presence of a larger family.
But the mention of your name made me search other pages and I thought I must write to you today. Take care and God Bless. Pranams to our Dear Sir, and all the wonderful family he has created for us.

    Dear Amitji,
just as you are awaiting the night- for FMxt to connect to- thru’ this blog- we await daily on this page for the same. It is not the same without a new blog daily- and if it is missed by me on my end- it feels, I did not do a daily activity of my day!!!! It has become an integral part of me. Another “daily activity” -without which, it is not possible to move ahead!!! And, twitter is a small space for me to connect with yuo. I rather be here daily.
Congrats to you and Jayaji for being honored on the bestilic day of french- and also good luck for KBC tomorrow.
Nice photo of your on the blog.

  71. Nimmi Harisinghani says:

    Dear Mr. Bachchan,
Your description of this blog was very lyrical . Each night you have a tryst with your EF and all over the globe , transcending all our differences , in varied timezones , we are joined with you in thought and spirit . That is pretty darn cool , is it not ?
The information superhighway has already surpassed the speed of sound and it is one crowded highway . Far too much chatter around us than necessary .Personally I like to take the scenic route , ‘ the road less travelled ‘ and have no qualms about switching off the ‘ devices ‘ which have become both a bane and a boon for us.
    Love and regards .

  74. Danish says:

    Dear Amitji,
You are absolutely correct in saying that nothing can replace blogs, even the pioneers of social media would agree to that. However, I think you are one of the very few people who continue to blog in the true sense of the word. For most people Twitter and blogging are only means to further their business/ professional interest, celebrities are often accused of using social media to generate hype for their upcoming movies, books etc but ironically most average bloggers too write with commercial interest in heart. Of course, most people wouldn’t know what to write on a daily basis :P

So your blog is like a whiff of fresh air but I would request you to moderate comments on your blog more, a lot of these are rants that make it difficult to follow conversation which you are able to do on Twitter. Guess I should stop here, else I would be contributing to the same “noise” I am talking about :P And please do give a thought on this line :)

    Regards,
    Danish

    Dearest Amitji,,,,,

I have certainly missed you. Really missed you. LAck of communication has had a very bad effect on my routine.
Work is truly unbearable. I dont know how it became like this but it has.

Family flying out to Germany end of month. Going to passport office tomorrow to get d lil ones passport. Should have done it before.

Eyes are closing Sir….but before i go….i need to share with you something….and please pass this on to Abhi.

After an extremely long long long time I saw a truly great non-AMItabh Bachchan film. Probably the last one was Omkara. Raavan Im talkin about. THis film has left some lasting images on my mind which refuse to be diluted or remove themselves from my thoughts. Their constant presence in my head are making me realise that i have witnessed a truly unique experience. From the acting to the camera shots to the broad choice of actors to the music…everything has been unbelievable. I cant remember the last time i saw a film and was so mesmerised. Throughout the film i was thinking is this actually happening. Such a masterpeice. I feel truly priviledged to have come across this. Abhi has something special which only a few directors can extract. By far this has to be Ash’s best film. Ranjha song is the only song ive heard the past few days. Dont get me wrong Sir…im not saying this at all to suck up. I still am at shock at how such a great film is even possible. And the cherry on the cake has to be that every person i know that has seen this film has felt the same.

Well done all the team of Raavan. Especially the director and Abhi.

    LOve

Have a wonderful day. Hello to Jayaji.

  105. Jasmine J says:

Amitji, a propensity towards the poetic runs in your veins, in your heart, in your soul, in your being. Your great father’s legacy, of course, how could you escape it. I’ve felt on innumerable occasions that you are the master of poetic prose. When you say of the blog that it “It has the subtle touch of that soft wave that smoothes out as it touches the sand banks of a long and lonely beach”, what is it if not sheer poetry? Simply loved it.

From Bastille day, to the memories of the bloody carnage at Taj Mumbai on November 26, 2008, to the Kargil war: your post today traverses the distance between these important and blood soaked events. It ends looking ahead, though, which is how you often end your blog, looking at tomorrow (which is already today in your part of the globe) and the rehearsals for KBC. Things have started rolling pretty quickly. Do you really need to rehearse, though? You would be fabulous without any.

Wishing you a wonderful, happy, productive day, and looking forward to your return to the sacred space at night and reading about your day, with love and regards,

    Jasmine J

    Dear Lion King,

Wow, you have put this space on a pedestal and if it comes from you, it has to be so! I never knew I could come to this space everyday like the way I do, actually I do only because of you. This place is more magnetic than the poles. I also spend time on Twitter because of Mr Nandy and you.

You look drop dead gorgeous in that photo, I wish there were a bit more of you at the Taj.

Never mentioned this yesterday, but I tend to believe that controversies somehow crop up prior to a movie release. There is a pattern. From Chetan Bhagath’s controversy and Aamir Khan’s issue at an army base ( prior to 3 idiots ), to SRK’s run in with immigration before MNIK, the Sri Lanka issue before Raavan and now AK’s jackass issue prior to his recent release. I think the gullible public are the biggest jackasses in this minefield of controversies. It is best to step aside if you are caught in one and especially if you are not a nobody. We, the fourth idiots would never know! Albeit, only in the case of Raavan, the controversy did not appear as if it were done for a movie promotion, quite the contrary.

    Looking forward to KBC..

Please take good care of yourself and hope we see more pics…

  120. Subhash Kaura says:

    Dear Mr. Bachchan

Most people the country would agree that KBC was the best thing that happened on the national TV network when it began. It was something which caught the viewers’ imagination like no other TV show had done till then. You conducted it with so much grace, finesse and aplomb episode after episode. I remember during the time slot it used to be telecast, there would be near curfew like conditions in cities and towns, big and small, all over the country with most viewing public glued to their TV sets for the duration of the show. I would often go out to check the deserted streets, markets to confirm this. That was the magic of KBC mainly due to the powerful presentation by you. It was a big hit. Over a long period of time it did start to lose it’s TRP ratings…..as happens with even most successful TV shows and was taken off the air. But overall it was a great success and it showed to the nation your great qualities as a person. You treated each and every contestant in such a dignified manner. It was a pleasure to watch. I am sure you would do an equally great job this time too. So here’s wishing you all the success for the new KBC series / innings.

Consumer Reports will not recommend Apple iPhone 4

    Tue, Jul 13 01:54 AM

Consumer Reports said it cannot recommend Apple’s iPhone 4 to buyers after tests confirmed the device’s well-publicized reception glitches.

It added that that AT&T Inc, the exclusive mobile phone carrier for the iPhone 4, was not necessarily the main culprit.

The influential nonprofit organization, which publishes guides on everything from cars to TVs, said in a report released on Monday that it also tested other phones — including the iPhone 3GS and Palm Pre — and found none had the signal-loss problems of Apple’s latest iPhone.

The report was the latest blow to the iPhone 4, which sold 1.7 million units in its first three days on the market but has been plagued by complaints of poor reception. Many of the complaints involve a wraparound antenna whose signal strength is said to be affected if touched in a certain way.

Kaufman Bros analyst Shaw Wu said he was surprised by the stance that Consumer Reports took on the new iPhone. Wu noted that the group’s recommendations are used as a guide by many consumers.

“Consumer reports is a respected publication. This could have an impact on iPhone sales,” Wu said.

Apple shares were down 1 percent at $257.06 on Monday afternoon on the Nasdaq.

The company has been sued by iPhone customers in at least three complaints related to antenna problems.

“When your finger or hand touches a spot on the phone’s lower left side — an easy thing, especially for lefties — the signal can significantly degrade enough to cause you to lose your connection altogether if you’re in an area with a weak signal,” contributor Mike Gikas said in a report on the Consumer Reports website.

“Our findings call into question the recent claim by Apple that the iPhone 4’s signal-strength issues were largely an optical illusion caused by faulty software that ‘mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength,’” Gikas said.

Apple did not respond to a request for comment.

Gikas recommended covering the gap in the wraparound antenna with duct tape or some other non-conductive material.

Apple has said almost any cellphone will suffer a loss of signal if held in certain ways. It said later it had discovered a software glitch that overstates signal strength, though it did not directly address concerns about the antenna with that admission.

On the flip side, Consumer Reports said the iPhone scored high on other testing grounds such as battery life, sharp display and high-quality video camera.

However, Gikas said the signal problem was the reason the iPhone 4 would not be classified as a “recommended” device in its smartphone ratings.

“Apple needs to come out with a permanent — and free — fix to the antenna problem before we can recommend the iPhone4,” said Gikas in his blog post on ConsumerReports.org.

How poetically you speak of this place where we all gather - where we upload our love, so to speak and hope it touches you and one another, in happiness and in need.

Need like Anat’s - we can not take away your pain, Anat dearest, but we can be here with you and we are.

I’m glad the Bastille day was festive and the heroes of the past, including your own country’s jawans were remembered and celebrated in style. If only the ones who died, not knowing what they have accomplished, could look down now and see how they are not forgotten.

Good luck with the KBC rehearsals, with you at the helm the sailing will be smooth and natural. I wish we could be part of it somehow, and I know this may not be possible.

My love, uploaded here and drifting upward through every comment above this until it reaches YOU and comes to rest,

    Dear Mr. Bachchan

This is in continuation to the thoughts expressed you on Day 815 about some kind of ESP that animals possess due to which they are able to sense
environmental changes (including weather and climate) as well as calamities and disasters etc much in advance compared with Homo sapiens.
Here is a news item based on latest research which says that birds are equipped with some such powers. The article is reproduced below which confirms it.

Times of India (14 Jul 2010)
Birds can see Earths magnetic field:

Birds can see the Earths magnetic fields through their right eye and use that information to navigate effectively. German scientists have discovered. Researchers at the Goethe-Universitat in Frankfurt found that a bird cannot navigate properly if its right eye is covered, but it wont have any problem if the left eye was covered instead. The magnetic sensing overlaid over the normal vision with the magnetic fields creates light or dark shadings over what the bird usually sees.
    ________________________________________________________________

Here is another one published in 2004:

Times of India (Sep 19 2004)
Earth’s magnetic field helps migratory birds find their way

Scientists believe that they may have solved the mystery of how birds migrate vast distances without losing their way: they can actually see the Earth’s magnetic field. New research suggests that a bird’s eyes contain cells that can detect magnetism as well as light. It is thought that the birds see it in much the same way as they observe trees, rocks and other familiar objects. One idea is that the field is superimposed on the landscape below — rather like the “head-up” displays found in modern fighter jets. At this time of year, about 30 million birds are preparing to leave Britain for sunnier climes, many travelling as far as Africa. For decades, one of the biggest questions has been how they navigate at night.

Which also goes to prove that we are still evolving and getting a better understanding of nature as we go along. It seems there is indeed a long way (a few billion years (?) if the human race survives till then) to go before we are able to comprehend the complexities of nature fully, if ever at all .

It has developed at an immense pace and through gadgets such as the mobile it also functions to keep one busy. In remembrance of the sacrifices made for the nations on Bastille Day and during the Kargil war. Good luck with the rehearsals tomorrow.

Beckon from Fmxt at that hour has been so so so so well written. It was soft, musical, intense, affectionate, warm. It reminded me of that song of 1942 love story… (hmm forget the song right now) ohhh. ek ladki ko dekha to eisa laga jaise…. Thanks for the musical prose.

Okay! so u enjoyed ur trip towards SoMu. And did u say subtly about ‘odd query’ from Jaya ji????? Oh poor jaya ji.. she is such a darling!! I guess when she questions u then it is a solid query baap!

U look ekdum dashing in ur suit. And yes ur speech was as usual fantastic. how do i know?? well ur content and the applause is enough for me to understand.

I join with u in paying my heartfelt respects to all those jawans of the Kargil war. And, many wishes on Bastille Day to the French!

Ur rehearsals are more or less like final take. It would be so precise. Yet, here i send many wishes for this wonderful show.

My prayers to the Lord for your and your lovely Family’s wellness will always continue!

    Dear Sir,

You’ve very beautifully, poetically & philosophically cited the difference between TWIT & BLOG….

And I think the same can be said about the difference between SMS & Letter-writing….

Here, inspired from your beautifully worded blog of the Day, I’ve composed a small para citing the virtues of letter-writing:

    ===================================================================

“SMS may be instant and rapid and greatly universal. But letter-writing has the serene gentleness of a rain-drenched flower; the peace & harmony of civilized neutrality; the reaching out capability of the morning sun & the calmness of its setting. It has the subtle touch of a wave that smoothes out as it touches the shores of a lonely beach. It has the vivacity & passion of youth and the wisdom of age. It allows for thought to exist, mature and develop. It has the objectivity & demand to be expressed & heard. And in a world that is so crowded & INSTANT, it gives you the solitude of your mind and the heart-beat of your soul…”

    ===================================================================

Hope you will like it - more so because the thoughts, the feelings and even the words are your own! :-)

    With love & regards,

    Dear Amitji,

Today’s post was an ode to us and yourself. I really believe that the people here do deserve the metaphors so well laid out by you and feel an extreme sense of pride to be a part of it. Thank you Sirji :)

While the technology has made communication easy and inmmediate, the fact that one can talk / sms instantaneously takes the balanced thought out of the word. Probably the time it would take earlier for one to get a pen , paper and place to write his communique, gave the person to move away from impulse and substantiate the message with long term and impartial consideration. Today this does not happen. The heart which is already worn on the sleeve easily slips down to the thumb and key board and you hit the send button in a jiffy. Yes this gives the message a freshness, but the word is better digested when it is fully grown :)

You rehearsing for KBC is like the pacific ocean practising for moisture :) Probably the rest of the crew need these sessions to remove the gaping awe from their faces that would not look good on camera when on shoot, they will have to act normal when they are going through the etheral experience of being in the presence of the big man himself. Tough for them ;)

End Line - A Death Foretold!

    It’s another morning..

Again I have to go to office.

Oh, this is me… I shouted having a glance on my snap in today’s newspaper.

But what the hell it is doing in the death column??

Strange…One sec… Let me think, last night when I was going to bed I had a severe pain in my chest, but I don’t remember anything after that, I think I had a sound sleep.

Its morning now, oh….. It’s already 10:00 AM, where is my coffee? I will be late for office and my boss will get a chance to irritate me.

    Where is everyone…? I screamed.

“I think there is a crowd outside my room, let me check.” I said to myself.

So many people….. Not all of them crying…But why some of them crying…

WHAT IS THIS??? I am lying on the floor…

“I AM HERE” … I shouted!!! No one listen.
“LOOK I AM NOT DEAD” … I screamed once again!!! No one is interested in me.
They all were looking me on the bed.

I went back to my bed room.

“Am I dead??” I asked myself.

Where is my wife, my children, my mom-DAD, my friends?

I found them in the next room, all of them were crying… still trying to console each other.

My wife was crying… she was really looking sad.
My little kid was not sure what happened, but he was crying just because his mom was sad.

How can I go without saying my kid that I really love him, I really do care of him. ??
How can I go without saying my wife that she is really most beautiful and most caring wife in this world..??
How can I go without saying my parents that I am here… just because of you?
How can I go without telling my friends that without them perhaps I have done most of the wrong things in my life… thanks for being there always when I need them… and sorry for not being there when they really need me..

I can see a person standing in the corner and trying to hide his tears…Ohh… he was once my best friend, but a small misunderstanding made us part and we both have strong enough egos that has kept us disconnected!

I went there.. And offered him my hand, “Dear friend… I just want to say sorry for everything, we are still best friends. Please forgive me.”

No response from other side, what the hell?? He is still preserving his ego, I am saying sorry… even then!!! I really don’t care for such people.

But one sec…. it seems he is not able to see me!! He did not see my extended hand. My goodness… AM I REALLY DEAD???

I just sat down near ME; I also felt like crying…

“OHH ALMIGHTY!!!! PLEASE JUST GIVE ME FEW MORE DAYS…”
I just wasn’t to make my wife, my parents; my friends realize that how much I love them.

My wife entered in the room, she looks beautiful. “YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL” I shouted. She didn’t hear my words, in fact she never heard these words because I never said this to her.

“GOD!!!!” I screamed… a little more time plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..
    I cried…

One more chance please… to hug my child, to make my mom smile just once, to feel my dad proud on me at least for a moment, to say sorry to my friends for everything I have not given to them, and thanks for still being in my life….

Then I looked up and cried!!!!

    I shouted….

    “GOD!!!! ONE MORE CHANCE PLEASE!!!!”

“You shouted in your sleep,” said my wife as she gently woke me up. “Did you have a nightmare?”
    I was sleeping….Oh, that was just a dream….
My wife was there… she can hear me…
This is the happiest moment of my life…
I hugged her and whispered…. “YOU ARE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND CARING WIFE IN THIS UNIVERSE…. I REALLY LOVE YOU, DEAR”
I can’t understand the reason of the smile on her face with some tears in her eyes, still I m happy…. J
“THANK YOU GOD FOR THIS SECOND CHANCE.”
SO, Now it’s not late.. Forget your Egos, Your bitterness and hatred towards others, your vindictiveness, probably all the seven deadly sins… and get around to express your love to others… Be friendly… Keep smiling… for rest of your life always……You won’t get a second chance always.

    Yours as always
    Ramanathan

Dear Anat - Glad to see you back. Take good rest and smile for that angel who touched you in your life though briefly when you are going about acknowledging the love and ’stand by’ mode that all your near and dear ones exhibited during the last few days.

Lakshmi Jag - Feels great to be appreciated for non plagiarised stuff for a change. Thanks Tnagerian :)

    Good day Amit ji!
Oh how many EF members “have left me behind” today, having already told you’re so attractive at the photo… There are people who became better with years like old wine (excuse me old comparison)… :)
And your neologism SoMu is so well-turned that I think it will soon be caught up even by foreigners.
Thank you for your “mode of communication”. :)

Amitabhji ,the poetic imagery in your opening paragraph is marvelous.Undoubtedly one of your best efforts.

It is interesting to observe that now a days everyone wants you to preside over every function–political, social, educational, cultural, film etc etc.
It appears you have acquired some sort of universal acceptance as most attractive celebrity.

‘’somu” should get into the latest edition of Oxford Dictionary. You have coined a perfect word for South Mumbai in this electronic age.

The entire country is looking forward to your Television extravaganza K B C . .
Sooner the better even if you have to celebrate your birthday earlier to coincide with the telecast of K B C .

    With best wishes,

    # 179 Ramanathan ji,
you know, I usually dislike stories with “dying” but that one of you today is refreshing indeed. I mean it refreshes the scale of real values, and even being in a sad mood one stops paying attention to unpleasant trifles and appreciates what one has. A mournful story with possitive effect…. Very original. Thanks. :)

    Dear BigB,
    All the best for KBC.
I loved reading Shobhaa De’s mention about you in her today’s blog…… “I don’t know how Amitabh Bachchan does it - and does it so well, at that! Met him last night at the Bastille Day celebrations hosted by Francois Pujolas, the French Consul General. Amitabh had just delivered a great speech. His fans were mobbing him even as he gamely signed autographs and posed for pictures. He travels around the world at a manic pace, is never ever late by even 5 minutes, makes thoughtful speeches without teleprompters, disarms hosts with his presence and panache, and does all this while demonstrating an enviable level of professionalism that is worth emulating in every field. His wife Jaya shared a domestic secret - “Our cue to leave is for me to get up and walk briskly towards the exit once the formalities are over - that’s when he looks worried and says to those crowding him, “Oh… I’d better rush…. or else my wife will get really, really angry!” Ha ha! I like, I like ! Must steal!” …..

#180 — Malhans, you truly are a malcontent. All that psuedo-intellectualism and throwing big names around to impress everyone really masks a nastiness that peeks through time and again. Amit babu will write what Amit babu wants to write about, not what you want him to write about. If you wish to see a particular topic addressed by him, there is a way of making a polite request — people do it all the time. See #192 today. Amit babu has not taken a theka of the entire world. Of course he is concerned with tragic events and natural calamities in India and all over the globe and has written about those countless times. Just because he did not mention this at the time of writing his post last night, does not mean he is some callous person that you paint him out to be. Don’t spread your bad vibes here. And KWITCHERWHINING!

    Dear Sir,

I think Sir it would be fair to say us Fmxt beckon all the time! Day night morning afternoon we are forever beckoning! Like I had said the other day, the doors to this medium remain open all hours. Everyday here is Christmas Day…Santa ji comes here and leaves us his musings to comment upon whatever they may be, however well we can express…

The Blog…Here we have the Son of a great Poet following his passion and exhibiting his literary skills! You have put it so well. Like Father like Son.. Transported me into not so distant world with its own serenity, security and solitude…could be there forever except the real world beckons.. If it weren’t for your endeavours, we wouldn’t be here. That is the truth.

The Taj Hotel…sadly with its glory remains memories of the terror attack. One can understand the need for security measures in order to protect its occupants… no doubt it will always remain under review. But life must go on and so must our deeds and duties to ourselves and others. I am pleased that you and Jaya ji were able to contribute to the occasion with your humble presence.

    God bless you Sir.

    Love,
    Daksha

Just a small note on Kargil

A group of nomads, driven by a motive, make an encroachment in the land interior to India, and cause themselves to be associated with a terrorist outfit organization. This leads to their evacuation from these areas in a way that is a clear reply to the challenge they pose.

Early detection of formation of such outfits as cancer could be very helpful in their surgical removal, while about 60 known outfits are heard to be operating in these areas, needing some vigilence. They speak a language partly Indian.

Countries in the neighborhood are exploiting our predicament, and have also chosen their favorite endeavor to settle their economic disputes. The land does not go anywhere! People walk over the land instead. Much of this looked in the past to be feudal disputes. What is next with movies?

    Dear Sir,

You mention that you start rehearsals for KBC on Friday. I know how and where they are being conducted because my mom-in-law is going to be present with you as one of those that you will rehearse with.

She was extended that invitation from a member of the KBC team. I live in Chicago and I was extended the offer as well (by my mom-in-law). I found out on Wednesday. I gave a serious thought to fly down from Chicago to be there on Friday and to return back on Saturday.

Work and lack of time to travel prevents me from doing so on such short notice. But hopefully I will 1 day realize my dream of meeting you (and Sachin Tendulkar) in person.

All the best for KBC4 - all the best for the rehearsals.

    Dear Amitabhji,

Nice reflections on communication and on certain means of communication.

All said and done, I still like to write letters that I once used to do to my relatives and friends. Even e-mail writing does not provide the satisfaction I used to derive from writing on paper and receiving letters. I have kept all the letters my sons had sent by post when they were kids and go through them sometimes when I am alone. Now even they don’t write, nor do I. The Waterman fountain pen gifted by son lying idle in my drawer at which I pathetically look at times.

Best wishes for the next KBC shoot.

  221. Margaret Ann says:

    @27 Satyam
After reading your last entry I am curious about your take on not only Hindi cinema but global cinema in general. Given the vast web of networking & behind the scenes events ,do you see a larger picture whereas celebs attending events not only because of the common interest but rather it becomes a ‘who’s who’ soire just to see what will happen. Not that I think that everybody knows everybody but the worlds of film allows high & low alike to peek into any world they choose.
It by the medium of film that one might approach another and say ‘ yes i have seen your latest’ and then the conversation goes from there or on a very superficial level of acknowledgement just passing through. Maybe I am a suspicious person by nature but more times than not surprises have happened from well planned passages of time. I suppose it depends on how ambitious one might be to make a foray into such territory but I am inclined to believe it exists. How else would some movies get made or relationships begin? Maybe there is a longstanding unspoken understanding (long way around I know) that you dont know who your friends are until you’ve made a movie with them. Globally I think cinema has a long ways to go with all things considered.
Whether or not it be Hindi or not I believe the film fraternity can expand its borders. It seems to me a small group ( and maybe I have said this before) carries the bulk of work with a new generation quickly filling in the gap.
The PR machines are in full operation moulding new & fresh face for the world to see causing those in the forefront to step behind the scenes and be the guides. Maybe that falls in the category of your defintion of ‘entertainment’ whatever we will see next the subject matter along with a face connects with the target audience. I am not quite sure how it will all pan out but I defintely see it coming.

  222. Mithai Lal says:

To Anat Magen, feeling extremely sorry about this sad news.
I am sure that He will give you enough strength to withstand this shock. The fact that you are here on this blog in such a tragic situation, shows your courage and willingness to accept God’s verdict.
It was just an act of intution that I wrote my words yesterday about your trauma..when you might have been in the hospital. Probably it might have been all over by that time…but the words had to come out.
My best wishes for your life ahead.

This blog is the place where we are the members of one family, the extended family. And every night reading your post is like meeting you everyday, like sitting around a table and talking to you.

Great to know that you enjoyed at the Bastille Day function, we would like to know more about it.

And indeed the victory of the Kargil war is a big day for us. The sacrifice made by every individual makes our head bow down to pay the due respect , which can never be enough.

I am sure the KBC rehearsals will go very well, you were the one who gave the show it’s identity, you are the real inventor of it, you don’t need any rehearsal. But for a refresher , yes you can have a look.

  227. RAVI P MALHOTRA says:

Dear Amitji, Good Evening. Lovely post and lovely occasion to be a guest of honour. Every Country has its proud day when they remember their heroes who laid down life for the Country’s flag. The highest sacrifices are remembered and the martyrs honoured by reliving their glorious moments. You aptly did that for our Kargil heroes. May their souls rest in peace and their names echoe all our celebrations in future. May the sacrifices never go in vain.
Twitter and Blog may not have much comparison with each other. Twitter is like a short yawn and blog a good night sleep. Hope you are enjoying both. Many years back I used to make my own sms of 160 characters spending hours to derive the best meaning from the limited words. It was my word game and rich time pass which generated more than 3000+ good thoughts. Later my initials RPM which followed each sms were removed and I used to get back my own creations as a forward. I still rejoiced that my thoughts are floating in thin air and are having some value and roaming around.
Hope on the Twitter effort to create well meaning sentences is not done. Instead it is what comes to mind and sometimes closer to even badwords and bad-mouthing. It is used more as a vent valve of pressurised minds. Many firms are banning their employees from using Twitter to vent their anger against colleagues or top management. Infact the biggest employer Government of India sorry the ruling party had tough time putting a lid on Tweets by some of their new luddite politicos. Hope the lid is still tight and Tweets suppressed quite succesfully.
Have a nice rehearsal of KBC and let everyone rejoice your new show.
Have a wonderful time and do tweet and blog as you deem fit. We are always waiting for the blog each day like a morning news paper.
I write what a friend has written on facebook to conclude:

    आंधियां लाख तोड़े चाहे नीड़
    पांखी फिर भी बसेरा ढूंढ लेता है
    कितनी ही लम्बी क्यों न हो रात
    सूरज फिर सव…ेरा ढूंढ लेता है
    शुभ प्रभात
    By:Asha Pandeyojha
I really rejoiced her lines and would request our friends on twitter to tweet after reviewing their thoughts. May be twitter will become a challenging meaningful game of creating new thoughts for the day instead of fresh mudslinging at times.
Regards to those who give immortal thoughts and Quotes which guide new generations on a future path.

  233. Dr.Zensunking says:

    Dated:16.07.2010.

    Dear Mr.Amitabh Bachchan,

The following is an outline of the late 20th-century events
prophesied by the 16th-century French psychic known as Michel
Nostradamus. Nostradamus has predicted in great detail such events
as the French Revevolution, World War I, Hitler’s Rise and Fall, and
even the Kennedy Assassinations. Nearly two-thirds of all his
predictions have come true. If two-thirds of this comes true, we’re
in for some trouble! HBO produced a movie called “The Man Who Saw
Tomorrow,” which documents the life and predictions of Nostradamus.
These prophecies are based on and adapted from the book, NOSTRADAMUS
PREDICTS THE END OF THE WORLD by Rene Noorbergen, who wrote several
    books on psychics.

I have drawn on a world map with colored markers all of the
invasions, nuke strikes, etc., with the number of each event placed
with the respective arrows and circles on the map. Print this up
and save it, then compare Nostradamus’s predictions to actual world
    events. You may be surprised!

Permission is granted to distribute this file among friends and
bulletin boards, so long as the text below this sentence is
unchanged. (Sure, you can edit any spelling errors and/or ARChive
    it).

    summarized by Dr.Zensunking
“Nostradamus Predicts the End of the World,”

    (3) A great power will unify the Far East with negotiation
    and pressure.

    differences with force.

    (5) A meteor will strike the center of the Indian Ocean,
causing tidal waves that will heavily damage the
    surrounding lands.

    (6) A powerful dictator will dominate the Middle East. He
will tyrranize Syria, Iraq, and Jordan. [Maybe
    Khomeini?]

    (7) On August 2nd, 1987 he will attack Iran, Turkey, and
Egypt with an army of nearly a million men. [This date
was reached by astronomy; the astronomical event only
    occurs on that day.]

    (8) Arab forces in Tunisia and Algeria and north-Moroccan
guerillas will invade Morocco’s pro-Western monarchy and
    overthrow its king.

    (9) Israel will be defeated by the Arabs, with her airforce
    destroyed.

    (10) A Libyan leader will create much tension in Europe.
    [Definitely Khadaffi.]

    (11) A “red one” [a Cardinal of the Roman Church or maybe a
TWA jet] will be taken by Arab terrorists at sea.

    (12) The Arabs will try to unify more of Africa by
    overthrowing pro-Western governments. The Oriental
    leader will do the same.

    (13) Arab armies will threaten central & southern Africa into
    alliances favorable to the Middle-East.

    (14) The Arab attacks in Turkey will be followed by attacks on
the Greek navy. The U.S. will attempt to resupply the
navy, but Cyprus will be lost to the Arabs.

    (15) A series of tremendous earthquakes originating in Central
Asia will cause destruction throughout the warring Greece
    and Turkey.

    (16) Romania and Bulgaria will threaten war with the Arabs
when the Bosphorus Straits are cut off, thus interfering
with commercial and military ship movements.

    (17) The U.S. and U.S.S.R. will form a military alliance
against the both the Far Eastern power and the Arabs.
The U.S. will grow in fame, praise, rule, and power, and

    (18) Geneva talks will fall apart, with the feeling that peace
is unattainable. [Uh-oh here it comes.]

    ** WORLD WAR ]I[ **

    (19) China will launch a surprise nuclear biological-warfare

    Page 2

attack over the Arctic, affecting Scandinavia, Northern
Russia, Alaska, and Canada. Another attack will
originate from a space vehicle 270 miles up.

    (20) The Chinese will invade France by way of southern Russia,
    conquering all in their path.

    (21) The Turks will sign a treaty with the Chinese, but it
will be broken when Arab naval forces from Tripoli
(Libya) attack the west coast of Turkey.

    (22) The Chinese army will devastate northeastern Turkey with
    the aid of nukes.

    (23) The Arabs and Chinese will attack Greece with germ
warfare, which will affect the environment for 9 months.

    (24) Albania, China's ally, will invade Greece in a surprise
    attack using light armored vehicles.

    (25) A Western coordinated counter-offensive launched from
Portugal will delay an amphibious assault on Yugoslavia
    by [guess who].

    (26) The Easterners will advance into Yugoslavia and unleash
bacteriological weapons in central Italy to hinder
    Western counter-attack efforts.

    (27) Greece and Italy will be attacked simultaneously by the
    Eastern forces.

    (28) When Yugoslavia is overrun, a devastating drought will
    hit Italy.

    (29) Italy will dissolve into dissenting factions and go into
its own civil war. The Albanians will further promote
the civil war by paying off corrupt government officials.

    (30) Eastern forces will attack Rome from Albania using aerial
bombardment and germ weapons. They will attack Venice.
Central Mediterranean islands will be evacuated, even as
far as Malta. Venice will fall.

    (31) The French fleet will be destroyed in the Adriatic Sea as
it tries to cut off the Easterners in Italy from their
Albanian suppliers. The French and Italian naval defeats
will keep food from reaching the starving Italians.

    (32) The Easterners will develop a new land/sea weapon to
    attack coastal areas.

    (33) The Easterners control of the Po Valley from Venice will
give them total rule. A French/Italian attempt to
forstall Italy’s fall will be crushed.

    (34) In order to avoid being wiped out, the French commander
will withdraw and regroup his soldiers along the Po in
    the upper valley.

    Page 3

    (35) England will partially sink as a result of geological
alterations and cause the deaths of 250,000 people.
[This event has been foreseen by at least 4 other famous
    psychics, also.]

    (36) An Easter earthquake will rip open an English temple.

    (37) Around New-Year’s, the Easterners will begin a massive
invasion of the western Italian coast, southern France,
Sicily, Corsica, and Sardinia by the use of nuclear and

    (39) The French armies will be cut off in Northern Italy.

    (40) Prince Albert will be kidnapped in North-Central Italy
after the French unsuccessfully try to cut Eastern supply
    lines from Venice.

    (41) The French will again regroup their forces, and will
capture a beachhead. This will be a turning point in the
    Franco-Chinese war.

    (42) Ill-timed French-Italian attacks will cause the loss of
Florence and Siena by Eastern nukes, and Pavia will be
lost by the use of germ weapons.

    (43) Monaco and Genoa will be annhilated by the Easterners.

    (44) Ten assassins will be sent to murder the commander of the
French fleet, but they will fail and a sea battle will
take place. The French will again lose their forces on
    land and sea.

    (45) A battle will be fought at the major French port of
Marseilles, creating an opening through which the
attackers can enter. The resulting massacre of nearly
half a million Frenchmen will make people flee far
    northward.

    (46) Toulouse, Foix, and Narbonne will be taken.

    (47) Bacteria will spread northward.

    (48) Easterners will release deadly bacteria from specialized
ships at France’s port, Agde. Airforces will bomb
    Switzerland and Germany.

    (49) Extensive use of nuclear and germ weapons will compose
the first phase of the Eastern offensive against all of
Europe, striking in France, Italy, and Spain.

    Romania, Bulgaria, and southwestern Russia.

    (53) A Chinese/Arab assault from Morocco will attack southern
Spain with nukes. This will be followed by an invasion
along the River Guadalquivir. The invasion will procede
northward, with the destruction of Seville, Barcelona,
and Leon. The Spanish will halt the advance for 7 months
at the River Ebro, but they will eventually be crushed.

Cyclades, but will be defeated near Malta, when the

    (55) Eastern bombers will attack deep into Europe with
    bacteriological weapons.

    (56) Switzerland will fall by the hand of the Easterners, who
will confiscate the gold reserves and impoverish the
    Swiss people.

    (57) The Easterners will start extensive bombing of central &
northern French cities in preparation for a land attack.
The French will fly in defenses beforehand, though.
Central France will be overrun regardless.

    (58) Paris will be surrounded, and attempts to get Allied air
support will be in vain. Paris will surrender after
Eastern forces find a weak spot in the defense, enter the
city, and engage in hand-to-hand combat. The surrender
will only be a cover to organize a counter attack a week
later. That will surprise the Easterners, but they’ll
drive the Parisians back into the city. Over 300,000
will be killed or imprisoned. Paris will be completely
    defeated.

    (59) A British taskforce will land in southwest France and
attempt to reach Paris, but will be stopped at Poitiers.

    (60) The British will reorganize in Canada and send an
invasion force to establish a beachhead on France’s
southwest coast. With the aid of nukes, they march on to
Bordeax and Toulouse. The British plan will be to cut
off occupied Spain from France and also to gain an
    opening into the Mediterranean.

    (61) A sudden attack from the Easterners will slaughter
British and American forces and will allow the Chinese
leader a new command center, Carcassone.

    (62) He will detontate a series of high-altitude, high-yield
atomic devices which will ignite the atmosphere and cause
a firestorme over southwest France, but this will also
cause his own base to be destroyed.

    (63) The Scots, left on their island, deny Britain permission
to use their land for a military base, and seek Eastern
aid when British forces invade out of desperation. The
resulting battle will defeat the British.

    Page 5

    (64) All life in London will die out during winter as disease
sweeps what is now the city-island.

    (65) Poland and East Germany will ally with the Easterners and
strike against the smaller countries, Czechoslovakia,
    Hungary, Austria, and West Germany.

    (66) West Germany and Austria will be invaded. West Germany’s
border will be split down the middle again. Netherlands,
Belgium, and northern France will also be raided.

    (67) At the same time of the German/Austrian invasions,
Western forces will attack the Persian Gulf to weaken the
    heart of the Middle East.

    (68) German leaders will cause the downfall of Central
European defenses, along with Eastern attacks from East
    Germany and Yugoslavia.

    (69) The Allies will make their last stand at Bruges in
northwest Belgium. The Eastern Forces will dominate
    nearly all of Europe.

** The Allies take the Offensive **

    (70) Nuclear strikes will be made against America and Russia,
and food will become in short supply. The U.S. will be
forced into economic chaos, with looters and rioters
raiding banks and shops for food, money, and supplies.

    (71) A CONFLAG (Cluster Orbital Nuclear Fire-weapon for Light
Atmospere iGnition) system will be launched from China
and detonated above New England, burning as far south as
    New York City.

    (72) New York will be partially destroyed by a great
earthquake that will partially sink Manhattan island.

    (73) The Orientals will attempt to invade the U.S. near New
York, but the U.S. navy will easily repel their attack.
American Orientals will be placed in “protective
    custody.”

    (74) The Easterners will infiltrate Latin America and murder
the president of Brazil. Their navy will attempt to take
the Panama Canal, but it will be unsuccessful and the
    attacking force will be obliterated.

    (75) The U.S. and Russia will resort to germ warfare to
    retalliate.

    (76) The U.S.S.R. will be invaded from three directions, but
careful preparation will allow them to use chemical
    weapons against the Chinese.

    (77) To prepare to attack Asia, Eastern forces will set up
Pacific defenses. They will entrap a U.S. fleet, but
Russia will aid the encircled Americans and help to
    defeat the Chinese navy.

    Page 6

    (78) The American Air Force will make bombing runs deep into
Europe. Seven months later the U.S. and Russia will make
a joint attack on China that will last a full week
without stopping. The Eastern forces will be defeated in
their homeland, thus severely weakening their power.

    (79) Scotland and London will be recaptured by the Allies. A
new Middle-Eastern commander will make his headquarters
    in Rome.

    (80) Scandinavia, the Baltic states, and the Balkans will all
    be attacked by the Allies.

    (81) The British will liberate southwest France, which will be
reinforced by other Western armies. The allies will
penetrate from La Rochelle into central France, to
Roanne. Another invasion force will land near Calais and
slowly make its way to northeastern France.

    (82) Central and Southern France will be liberated as the
    Allies continue to push onward.

    (83) The Arabs and Far Easterners no longer will be able to
work together after the defeats in the Pacific, and this
    weakens their still-resisting armies.

    (84) Many battles will be fought as Allied forces make their
way to Marseilles, the Easterners’ stronghold and supply
port. This will be coordinated with a submarine assault
    on southern France.

    (85) French and British forces will seize the Spanish city of
Barcelona, and move on to aid in the successful Allied
    attack on Marseilles.

    (86) Nice will be retaken, but the Arabs will attack from
Spain and Italy, recapturing parts of southern and
southeastern France. At the same time, the Arabs will
launch a missile attack against the Allies in Northern
France. This attack will be unsuccessful, and the Arabs
    will be driven back.

    (87) The Allies will use bacteriological weapons against
Lausanne, Switzerland, forcing the Arabs to retreat.

    (88) Spain will be reconquered after a large naval battle on
    March 3rd, 1996.

    (89) The Allies will make a massive onslaught into Italy,
liberating it. The Church will be returned to Rome.

    (90) The Arabs will be forced all the way back into northern
Africa, but a French force will be annihilated as it
tries to cross the Adriatic Sea.

    (91) The Allies will attack the Mediterranean islands.

    (92) A secret and very successful raid will be made by the
Allies to free POW’s in Turkey.

    Page 7

    (93) Southern Arabia will be nuked by the Allies, but the
Arabs will recapture Sicily. This will have little
effect, though, and soon all of central Europe will be
    liberated.

    (94) 5000 Far Easterners will die when losing Crete and Greece
    to the Allies.

    (95) The French, under a new leader named Ogmios, will lead an
Allied assault on Turkey between May 25th and June 21st,
1996. The Arabs there will be defeated. Northern Turkey
will be liberated on October 3rd.

    (96) Western amphibious attacks will fail, and Arab saboteurs
will destroy an Allied military base after a defeat in
    one battle.

    (97) In a surprise attack, the Western forces will attack and
    defeat the Eastern navy.

    (98) Allies will infiltrate the Middle East, stabbing into
occupied Israel, Syria, and Jordan. Arab resistance will
disintegrate, and within a month the last Eastern forces,
in Central and South America, will surrender. Israel
    will be liberated.

    (99) The Westerners will attack Middle Eastern positions in
    India, defeating all.

    (100) The desparate Arabs will fight 3 last-ditch battles in
eastern Iran and Northeastern Turkey. The last battle
will bring about the collapse of the Arab empire. The
Arab commander-in-chief will be killed in his own
    headquarters.

    (101) The battles will eventually cease in Iran, and World War
]I[ will finally be over. The Allies win again!

    (102) The one world of 7 billions of world population will Decide the fate of planet earth.

    With love and compassion

    Adarniya Shri Amitabh Bachchanji,
Great description of this forum and our medium of communication Sir. You have that ability to describe things poetically, its in your blood. And the punch line “It has You” said it all. From what we know of you as a person, its not surprising that every now and then you try to give importance to your FmXT members and my heart felt thanks for the same. You are here b’coz of US and we are here b’coz of YOU….
Hope you had a wonderful time, meetings with just speeches is never entertaining. You are almost ready to clap as soon as the speaker has started addressing the forum. And thank you Sir for reminding us of the ‘Vijay Divas’, our victory in the Kargil war over our arch rivals. I am not sure how many politicians, media personnel, etc. acknowledged our “Veer Shahids” on this day and to what length was the coverage, but good to hear it from you.
    Good health to you…

    Dear Mr. Bachchan

Best wishes on your KBC asignment. Also great to know you will finally start shooting soon. Like to see U on screen anytime.

South Indian movies are always over the top. I did not like the “Budha” directors earlier work. I hope he tones down the pitch and makes a realistic film.

    Best wishes and regards
