An interesting article from the media on the media.
On print media taking on the electronic.
There is I observe a great amount of such discussion and debate in the print media. I find it fair and unbiased and relevant. And I find it necessary to talk about, because I find its relevance in today’s society of great importance. We are being bludgeoned with an excess that can prove deconstructive. It needs correction, that is obvious, but it needs to be feared !!

Oh ho awesome one more post.
well its too late and i guess you are definitely back from some party for Drona.
Please don’t forget and do share with us what you feel about drona as a movie made by your kids.
As I told you earlier also that I am a bit disturbed after reading negative reviews about Drona so I will anytime go by your word. I still have to wait to get the dvds here in USA so I cannot see the movie till now.
Please do write your view about the movie.
Give my love to Abhishek and all the other family members.
Love,
Lily
Drona was good. Better not spoil plot for others. Ajay Singh (Quiz master, Imp #1 ), how do you do? You spend day @ night on blog. I just logged in, what posts should I read?
TV news is pure punishment with breathless young anchors breaking down due to the breaking story rush. they r permanently charged up and every channel has a permanent scoop. The print media has more time and is not as evanescent as the spoken word..perhaps that is what gives it more responsibiliy in what it says. unfortunately we cannot entirely do without the TV news, and tere is tremendous scope for professionalism and maturity. I feel the TV media has much to introspect about.
DEAR SIR,
HELLO SIR.
BEST WISHES AND WARM REGARD
HIMMAT SINGH GREWAL
With “Blackberry” and Ipod Touch or Iphone you can browse the net or read stuff while in bed.
TV’s or computers cannot replace books. Most of the news channels today, especially Hindi, are scrap. English news channels are of course better like Times Now, etc. Now-a-days, I have started fascinating for myself a room without TV, only books and may be a radio to listen old songs.
I had started reading your blog only a few weeks ago (since raj controversy) but now I am a regular. I did not commented then, but today I am writing to you. I do not endorse Raj’s views. I am even planning to stage a play to put across my viewpoint.
Your also wrote about your French project. I sincerely want to see you in international projects.
I wanted to work with great actors like Amrish Puri, etc. but they are no more. I do theatre and aspire to work with other greats like you, Om Puri, etc.
May be I am aspiring too much, but it is my dream. I want to raise my voice against anything which threatens the democratic, secular, pluralistic character of our country and until I become big, I will do it via theatre.
Sir,
Your breadth and width of knowledge never ceases to amaze me. The more I read your blog, the more I wish I could get to meet you atleast once.
Take Care

TV is just a source of entertainment these days… earlier govinda & johnny lever used to entertain now they are the past & NEWS channels have stolen their place… u’ll everything on NEWS CHANNELS except news …. hahaha
They say na ki” gulab jamun mein na hi gulab hai na he jamun” .. same is the story of electronic media… may it’s soul rest in peace…

With lots and lots of respect my dear Nikumbh Sir——— Please find time to watch Taare Zameen Par since you are not going for filming. I am so eager to read your comments about TZP.
I wonder sometime where all this techonology is going to take us. I still believe in newspaper and books rather than electronic but thanks to technologies , I am in touch with you.
Take care Sir, Deepak from Vancouver Canada
Pratakeesha and Jalsa .. why name that way Curious . BTW when I was in India I saw Jalsa from outside (Taxi Driver pointed that out off course!) Very near to Marriott.
It’s a “Brave New World” out there with the various forms of media. But “Truth” is what often takes a backseat, to sensationalism etc. Add bloggers to the mix, and it can become very difficult to know what is Truly happening in the world out there. Whether its something as “trivial” as whether a movie is a hit or a flop (where various people with various agendas will come up with various verdicts), or something more serious…
hello again mr bachchan,
take care

Please…please respond to my comment…atleast once in my lifetime.
And..please tell Abhi..HE ROCKS…and very happy to see that DRONA has worked well.
Longing for that day when you will respond..
Love you like CRAZY,

You posted so much 5 minutes before I left work for my mile walk to the train that It will keep me busy on my laptop. The only thing I watch on TV is movies. I work in the cable TV industry but mostly on movie channels. Still I wouldn’t watch these channels except IFC if I didn’t get paid to. If it keeps me out of the loop of mainstream society, so much the better. The one thing that is keeping me from reading more books is this stupid computer, which I didn’t have before you started blogging! So you see it’s all your fault! JUST KIDDING AROUND.
Love,
Rochelle
A very thought-provoking post, Mr. Bachchan. I feel in a world of 24×7 media…with every channel propagating some talking head, it’s often difficult to get an unbiased, untainted view…here in the US, we are in the midst of one of the most important elections ever, and every TV channel has a hidden agenda (which is not so hidden if you read between the words)….the print media is also tainted…e.g., the New York Times is now one of the most liberal left wing publictions in print!
The price of obtaining alternative views is falling fast. And the main expense today is the value of our time. How much time do you spend every day reading the newspapers? In stead of reading newspapers, we tend to now visit websites. It’s faster, easier, and with a click we can get information on anything we want. We live in a news-overload mode at all times. With search engines like Google, we have too much on our plates. However, with volume comes confusion. It becomes increasingly difficult to differentiate between fact, fiction, and plain ol’ sensationalism. Just my two cents.
-Rajeev
Dear Sir,
Hope you are doing great ! Nothing today about what is going on at your end. A small observation - I am perplexed at the use of word ‘deconstructive’. It can certainly not be used interchangeably with ‘destructive’. I can see how destructive fits in your sentence right there. Can you please elaborate ?
Now some positive criticism - ‘chota muhan badi baat’ …but I do want to bring your attention to this so please excuse me for saying this. I have noticed that, off late, some of the necessary punctuation is missing from your writing making the meaning and intent less clear in the first reading. Needless to say you write extremely well because you are so well-connected with all the things you write about, there is so much depth and fine details on the subject at hand. But Sir, if anything is not packaged right, it does not get it’s fair share of appreciation and in this case, it’s fair share of understanding too.
Now when people like are us are making comments on your blogs, there are mistakes plenty. Some due to ignorance, some in the urgency to communicate, we just type and hit . No comparison at all. But I would certainly like to see that polish in your writing just because it is YOU !!
And also let’s not forget that these are all going into a book some day and you do not want to run the risk of being misinterpreted
Love you loads
Take Care !

Dear Amitjee,
He is my second best hero ever since Refugee..( need not mention - you are the best for me ..forever
)
Thanks for sharing this article.Lives of people have changed drastically..they don’t want to interact with their neighbours anymore…just want to stick to television/phone/internet.It’s not so good for the society -especially for children.
I am excited to see Drona..but the reviews are not great..but I would still love to see Abhishek in a super hero role.
Hope to get a reply from you……………..
Lots of love & regards
Dear Amitabh Sir ji
I think, media is too much given right to expose now a days. It’s not in india but accross world. I am currently in USA and it’s amazing to watch how they are exposing all candidates.
We need some control body to control these guys accross the world. Else one fine day nothing will be private in the world!
Surendra Saraf
I find choice of the word “deconstructive” kind of fuzzy and funny. why do you have to coin such a word when you could have used “destructive” inplace of “deconstructive”?
I wonder.
Hi Mr. Bachchan
what happened to that Harrods shopping - airport duty story… hope all settled amicably.
saw junior B on NDTV as well as Big Boss… it was a pleasure…very impressed with his good manners…. and therefore congratulating u and Jaya ji for his well grounded upbringing.
will u ever acknowledge my post??

By the way, Dr Bachchan, won’t you wish me for I succesfully completed my PhD in Canada?

Wud like to have ur opinion as well.
Thanks to you.
Amit ji,
WITH WIRELESS INTERNET YOU CAN HAVE YOUR LAPTOP COMPUTER IN BED WITH YOU & READ, WATCH & COMMUNICATE! BY THE WAY, YOUR BLOG IS MY FAVOURITE BEDTIME READ!
JUST HEARD TODAY ABOUT THE NEW MUSIC SERVICE ON NOKIA PHONE WHERE YOU CAN DOWNLOAD FROM 2 MILLION TRACKS FOR FREE, GONE ARE THE DAYS WHERE YOU HAD TO GO OUT HUNTING FOR A FAVOURITE RECORD OR LISTEN TO THE RADIO HOPING YOUR FAV TRACK MIGHT BE PLAYED. EVERYTHING IS JUST BECOMING SO SO ACCESSIBLE, BUT AT LEAST WE CAN APPRECIATE IT BECAUSE WE HAVE SEEN THE TIME WHERE NONE OF THIS WAS AVAILABLE, NOT SURE ABOUT THE FUTURE GENERATION!
GOODNIGHT & SLEEP WELL.

Dear AB,
It’s great balancing act to keep your comments limited and still precise on Drona. I haven’t seen it so it will be unfair to talk about it.
Lately one has found U more philosophic, pure and holistic in approach and comments. It’s troubled time and U have shown remarkable communication skill to calm down and perhaps change the minds of some. Your apology, restrain to jump in ugly debates and sharing these remarkable quotes is an act of intelligence and compassion. Only Love can destroy all negetivity, violence and corruption. It’s the most dangerous weeopen human needs in this volatile time.
After reading these wonderful quotes from U one feels very hesitant to talk about mechnical, corrupt and shellow electronic media. Is it worth to talk about them at all? Wouldn’t be wise and prudent not to talk about them and just change, boycott and stop them? After all we have remotr in our hand.
I first wrote to you on day 158, comment #68 and 70. I hope you will notice.
the paragraph above the headline is also worth reading.
best of health amitji

still waiting for your review on Drona… and also where did Abhishek get that T-shirt??
dear Amitji, my dad Dr. Sandip Mukerjee sends u his good wishes. He often remembers fondly how much u did for him at his Rotary Fundraiser in 1985. I wonder if u remember it? It was a very special moment for us! Your sparing 4-5 hrs of ur precious time & ur kind contribution towards the Rotary cause made this occasion a grand success. Jayaji had also graced the occasion. My father says he can never thank you enough! Here’s wishing u all the best & may Abhishek have a huge hit in Drona! Do reply soon. Regards RAMONA
Media provides mediation between humans, that is its function. But this can become very dry hence some speculation is introduced; editors bring in their politics. You dont see that tabloids have a function of clearing the air… the viewer gets some masala without a formula. The rest is upto the viewers intelligence IF they have any. So please do not discount the value of gossip or of tabloids, infact i would recommend you as the leader of the film industry, to start a tabloid with your intelligence, though not as an editor… because editors should be extraordinary individuals who like to communicate with a visionary view to the health of society… without protecting anyone, especially “family”.
My dearest Mr Bachchan…
Interesting article indeed! But when your brain is too tired and on a permafrost mode such as mine is now, the only thing left to say is…
Goodnight and will post tomorrow.
Sending Love…

Respected Amtiabh Bachchan,
It’s always nice to read to your bolgs. They gave lot of knowledge & courage! Keep writing.
Wishing you luck always.

Good piece here. Love that Groucho Marx quote! The Marx Bros were always wonderfully subversive!
Good article, and valid points. Electronic media has inundated us but nothing takes place of having a good book to read. I have tried to download and read off the net but it is not the same thing. Until a few years ago, I used to have to write with my hand to get the juices flowing, thoughts would just not come to me until the pen was in hand.
I miss the days when one waited for letter and the love and joy of reading those letters…that is an art form that is lost. Love letters sent to you by someone so near and dear…How can one express those sentiments in an email or msn…just seems colder. I remember when I got engaged back in the 90s and was in India to do my wedding shopping. The letters that my husband sent to me then I cherish and hold dear to my heart still.
Children growing up now, do not know a time when there was no internet, email, msn. They are so used to communicating through this medium that they don’t even know what they miss. They don’t know how to start a letter nor type out all their words…everything is abbreviated. I need a dictionary to decipher the lingo.

we await your comments & advise to the suicide bombers. Again some explosions in Agartala .The bombers are doing it to book their seats in Paradise & gain 32 virgins & all luxuries for each as given in chapter 55 of their book & also prodded on by their radical leaders who never denounce or deny this . Even Pak papers carry letters regarding this well known motive . Already SRK has given a timely advise to them to refrain -what about you ?;;. Your comments- coming from a senior, unbiased ,non-political icon of the young– will surely have a sobering effect on the young bombers. So give your advise frequently in your columns- Simply expressing regret & sympathy & pushing the problem under the carpet is not enough ;;; Other goody goody comments from an ivory tower will not do ;;;
Happy Navratri to you and your family.

Hmm not sure if i entirely agree with this article though! The speed at which the digital media is taking pace, it’ll become even harder for print to warrent its place in the market. It’s a challenge we’ve been facing since quite sometime now, however i’m sure that print won’t go anywhere- it’s here to stay!
Thought i’d share a link to the world’s first print newspaper dated back in 1609!

And of course a thought of the day: Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding. Hold this picture tenaciously and never permit it to fade. Your mind will seek to develop this picture!

today is Bapu’s birthday and we are all gathered at his Statue in Atlanta along with Martin Luther Kings family.Happy Navratri..
Hiya! Just read the reviews of Drona on Times of India- i think i’ll watch the movie first before i could make my own mind up aye!
Take care and take it easy!

Dear Amitji
i agree with what the article says…electronic media can never replace the print media and what a irony we are discussing the print versus electronic media debate, supporting the print media via electronic media(Web & email does count under electronic …right)
I would always go for print as they give you the sense of touch, feel and fragnance too..just remember the good old days of writing and receiving letters and cards…now it is all emails & ecards…they are fast, easy & reach millions by one clcik … but lack the warmth…i am use them daily but miss the old charm.
Similary the comparison between the still photography and digital cameras…still photographs were given for developing and then printed and you waited for the results with anticipation and then framed, but with digital camera now u get instant results, delete the ones u dont like and upload and download them, hardly ever print them. Digital or still both have their pros and con…i use the digicam but I miss the still cameras and photographs…
Hope to see u sometime, somewhere in this lifetime ….and take a picture with u from my digital camera which i shall get printed and framed ;-O)
that’s all for now
love u loads

hi Mr. AB
There is the widely held opinion that the media can lead stories, rather than follow the facts or essence of an story. For instance, in Gujarat anyone with a sound mind and an open heart would recognise that there has been policies practised by the state government that are contrary to the spirit of the Indian Constitution and International Human Rights law, it is the failure of the demos cum civil society that such ‘horrible’ groups/individuals have such an significant voice.
Indentity politics is in my view, base and most un-sophisticated form of public discourse, and reflective of a narrow and insecure world view -

Mr. Bachchan,
The media in general needs to be dialed down a notch. The media has become overbearing and too aggressive these days. It has resulted in the media doing anything they can to try and get the top story to get ratings. So much so that they even have taken to focusing on gossip or even fabricating the news to suit their agendas or the bottom line. The media needs to be reigned in. I also want to touch upon the strike going on the in the Hindi film industry. I’m all for the workers getting what the want in terms of better work hours, better working environment, and better pay, etc. I hope they get what the want and the strike will be resolved really soon for everyone in the industry.
Best wishes!!
Dear Amitji,
How are you?
I would like to wish you and Jayaji and everyone else in your family a “Happy Navratri” and “Happy Gandhi Jayanti.”
I have read the article that you have posted and I would not disagree with you at all. But it still shows that the pen, even in this day and age of high technology, is mightier then the sword.
I hope to see “Drona” this weekend.
Sir, There is too much on 24×7 TV today agreed. One can always put limits to what one wants to see. But we have no control over the commercial breaks. Media of one type will surely get influenced by the other since they feel they are competing for attention. Content sells ultimately. If news channels show same footage again and again people get bored.
Insensitivity is the reason why last line mentioned about jawan in J&K. One has to train on good thought process off work so that such words like compromising donot occur to you. During Kargil also such faux-pause was created by one of todays famous TV journalist who covered the war.
You should be in the company of good thoughts when alone. This can influence your tongue. Even in print media the language is sometimes poor. You get to read unchecked work for spellings. Anyone can take on anyone flaws can be always found. A flawless performance needs heart and mind at the right place well co-ordinating between them. The whole team has to work towards a flawless performance. Sometimes a small flaw breaks monotony of whole function which otherwise would be going smoothly. Our designer wardrope malfunctios can be stitched/unstitched in to the act.
One example was of a clown performing in a show. He rolled down from the steps and when landed on the ground was actually dead. Everyone was laughing on the really dead man. Question:where did the humour end?
So the debate between efficacy of one as against the other will continue and people have to choose what influences them. Given the option I would live away from any news becase it shows more of end of lives and violence. Good things need to be projected. I hate you Mr. Bachchan when you come in the ads in midst of a good TV programme. So this love hate relationship will be there. Not that I like you so much that I started eating Chavyanprash. Well that’s my choice strong enough but that is my life. I have never watched a first day first show in my life. I wait for the real feedback that’s from our children who insist it is a good movie and you budda buddi should see it.
When one media cuts in to the territory of other the real affect starts. Today both are doing well in their uncompromising positions.
Regards
Ravi P Malhotra
Good morning sir,
you r simply gr8 and nothing compares to u.
love u sir
I have been trying to blog but it does not seem to accept.. I am frussstraaaaaaaaated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Amit ji ,
Though I coudnt see Drona yet.But i definately see it soon.Abhishek looks Rocks on your blog. I saw an interview of Abhishek in NDTV -where he is lil upset with Raja Sen’s comment. Its really not acceptable from a senior director.
Any ways ,this is life ….we hav to accept how its come.Your quatations are wonderful.
Best regards
Surupa :))
Print needs to pull up its controls too, so often damaging news, financial news, is printed without validation and all one can do is to send politely angry letters to the editor!
TV is full time pass. Sadly- the news channels too.
Once upon a time credibility and accountability were important.
Dear Mr. Bachchan
I agree that there is excessive TV media, but isn’t the choice with us, the so called beings with supreme intelligence? It is the same debatable question like the egg and the chicken, which came first…is the media catering to us because we make the choice to watch or we watch because it is an easy way out to relieve our stress of day to day life, or it makes us feel better because we feel there are other people out there with worse problems than we have? An interesting topic indeed. Glad to see that you are out of your dark mood.
Lakshmi Jag
U know, after reading first that you were going to write about Drona and then reading the “rone” ( D is silent) reviews it got, i was waiting to read what you were going to say, what your opinion of the film is going to be. Will you praise it or join the others? How can you criticize your son’s performance? I was waitiing eagerly to read your inputs and I was pretty impressed by the way you handled it. You did not write for a day or two, waited for reviews to come out where everyone has already read and then you wrote beautifyully!!!!!!!!!!!! i I am impressed by your intelligence, youy handles it better than what i expected. hats off and believe me, u are very intelligent!
Love you for that! Abhishek rocks!!!!!!! whether the film runs or not. I think angry young man or a comic character suits him better! bye

Reading a news paper can be more of a leisure activity. You can select the article and go through it silently. about TV that too 24*7 is really going to kill you. Even if you go on change the cannel you can’t escape it .all the channels are showing the same (clip version of the story up teen times. You will be nailed! Best option shut the TV. Go for walk.fellow walkers will tell you news in a different manner. Discuss with them empty your mind come back and sleep. You don’t need to be the first one to know where when blast went. It is not the first come first served basis! No gold medal! —jaya
DEAREST AMITHJI,
GOOD MORNING, HOW ARE YOU TODAY?
YEP! A VERY INTRESTING ARTICLE.
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHICH MEDIA DO YOU PREFER?
PRINT OR ELECTRONIC?
BOTH HAVE THEIR ADVANTAGES, BUT WITHOUT MORNING PAPER IN THE HAND, EARLY IN THE MORNING , I FEEL I AM MISSING SOMETHING.
TODAY I AM CHECKING YOUR BLOG EARLY AS I HAVE A LOT OF THINGS TO DO, YOU SEE , I AM A VERY BUSY HOUSEWIFE/HOUSEMOTHER ETC….
‘DRONA’S’ REVIEWS ARE OK, I THINK IT IS AVERAGE, BUT I AM GONNA WATCH THE MOVIE ANYWAYS.
I AM YET TO SEE YOU IN PERSON. I DO NOT KNOW WHEN THAT HAPPENS?
MY DAUGHTER, HUSBAND, FRIENDS TEASE ME THAT ,IF I HAVE TO MEET U IN PERSON, THEN I HAVE TO GO STAND NEAR YOUR HOUSE & WAIT FOR U TO SHOW UP.
OOOH, ANYWAY , HOPE GOD SHOWS SOME MERCY ON ME ONE DAY, & I GET TO MEET YOU. UUUUMMMM……….
THAT WOULD BE MY MOST UNFORGETTABLE DAY OF MY LIFE!
OK, MY LOVED ONE, HAVE A LOVELY DAY & PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF,
WITH WARM REGARDS,
KALPANA KAKADE
My dear Mr. Bachchan,
thanks for sending the article, it is interesting. and of course it makes us think about what’s going on around us.
Yea TV helps us to get to know about world wide news, get entertained with movies, foreign and national as well. but i believe that TV has another job that it does unconsciously. it is one of the ways that really help shape minds and thoughts, especially for children and youth who are more exposed to TV and electronic media, and who don’t have an interest in books for instance. but what is more dangerous is that TV teaches nothing of value. A lot of TV channels, competing, without a real content.
Well…we will not be able to get rid of it, yea it is something that has been imposed on us. But at least we need to know how to be selective, especially with regard to our children.
Rasha Zayed,
BigB yahoo group,
Cairo, Egypt.
Sir , i am watching Big B’s Den through bhejafry.net as being in usa. Sir please let us know weather we will be able to see your entire unforgotable tour or not ??
Sir,
That is an interesting article. I wonder if someone can write about life of an actor and films like this. You know like one actor actually speaking the truth about life as an actor. With so much being written about, it is actually difficult to always tell as to what is true and what is false. Just a thought!
Jaya
I Agree. Print media can never be superceded by electronic media. But it is influenced to some extent by e-media. Print media is also taking steps to renovate itself to maintain its supremacy.
There are some news channels which show everthing except news. They should be nominated for best entertainment news channels. They are giving e-media a bad shape. There should be a governing body for e-media.
Hi Amitji,
Quite like reading the quotes you post from others. Have mentioned to my family that I have taken a liking to reading you blog on a daily basis (if not every 2nd day=sometimes life too busy or too tired). They question whether it really is you or is someone doing for you.. I reply that yes it is you 100%. I have full faith in you and have never really thought about it.. Hope DRONA works out for Abhi. He has become quite an actor in his own right. Enjoy watching him and Aish together infilms. KNK and Guru were great films. My learning hindi words is slowly picking up. Have not yet tried to speak, somewhat shy to get it wrong. Not sure if I mentioned last time I wrote but love the new pic of Abhi.
Will sign off now…
Just wanted to say hi.
Bless you and Jaya aunty and the rest of ur family…
Take care

Dear Amitabhji,
I believe that to watch too much TV channel is wasting time & energy by giving too much importance to TV channels. I need to give attention to my kids that are they watching too much TV, now I am giving attention & I found that most of the time TV is on but no one is watching, so I started switch off TV. Very few programmes we watch. About print media, its really essential part in day to day life. Without print media I feel incomplete, even though PC became essential part in my life but print media is also essential part in my life. I can’t say this is better or that is better. One thing is true some TV channels are not doing worthwhile. Their focus is on earning money through advertisement instead of giving good & worthwhile things to public.
Anyway, what we r doing is, taking things only of our interest other things ignoring.
With lot of Love

Respected Sir,
I am your biggest fan after Abhishek Bachchan. God! there is so much competition for that number, your no 2 fan, but I am ahead of other guys……..
I am Pankaj M., currently based in U.S.A. and have seen your Movies from the age when I started talking….and because of the influence of You and Your Acting on my life Sir, I have become a Director.
Your Acting has inspired me to become a Director after I had quit Mechanical Engineering ….And it happened only because of your great performances in every Movie….
Your perfection with the art of acting is so great that when I saw Al Pacino,Marlon Brando or any other Actor in Movies from Hollywood, France, England, well from every corner of the world;NO ONE WAS AT YOUR LEVEL… your acting dominated the eye of the camera, you are the Most Versatile and Complete Actor in the World Sir……..
Sir, you are the best thing to happen to the World Cinema…I mean it from the bottom of the heart…My Desi friends sometimes try to imitate your dialogues from AGNEEPATH, DEEWAR, SHARABI, almost all Movies….Your Movies Sir, are a part of life of every Indian….We are addicted to your Movies..I am grateful to my Parents who always have been your fans, to take me to your Movies..I remember the time when the Military theatre in my hometown, Aurangabad, Maharashtra used to exhibit your Movies 3 days in a week…especially SHOLAY, KALA PATTHAR, DEEWAR, again and again….
I remember all of us clapping on your entry, laughing on your jokes and crying when something bad happened to you in the Movie..Even now, when I am 32, I can’t see you in pain in Movies, like the end of Sholay, Muqaddar ka Sikandar,Deewar,Black…such is the impact of your great acting…..Infact me and my friends started hating Actress Rakhee after you die for her in MUQADDAR KA SIKANDAR, we loved You and still love You much I also remember in early 80’s there was a comics called “VIJAY COMICS”, a series based on you, which was a superhero character…
We were so obssesed about you, me and my friends used to claim that your house had floors equivalent to the date of our respective birthday’s..such was our obsession and the love has increased day by day exponentially……
Here in U.S.A. all of my American friends know you and they have seen Black, which is their all time favourite Movie….
I remember your interview where you had compared the impact of 2001:A SPACE ODYSSEY with the impact of the song KHWAJA, JODHA AKBAR…..I loved your thoughts, your views…Stanley Kubrick is my all time favourite Director…..
Sir, I also remember when you were asked about the Actors that influenced you in your yound age..And my God, that list was so awesome….
And even now when some people are trying to create hurdles in your life using some media reporters, politicians..millions and millions of your fans support you and if we hate those people and a day will come when we will come on the road for you, will do anshan, anything it takes to teach these people a lesson….Our own people give us pain, thats what happened to my family when I got a Scholarship to study B.F.A. in Film Direction in U.S.A., they gave pain to me and my family out of jealousy,as I belong to a middle class family. My Parents who are very old, are still going through hell because of some bad people..thats how some people are in our country….
But you are an inspiration in this situation Sir, I will fight back with wisdom the way you are doing….
And now that I am ready as a Director, I just pray to the Almighty that my first Movie with be with you Sir, that will be a Dream come true…I don’t wan’t anything else in my life……
I have started writing 2 Scripts one is for an English Movie and the other is my Dream Project “Shahenshah 2″,which will be the best Superhero Movie of the world, very intense and very different in terms of aesthetics, action, special effects…..I don’t know if someone else is officially writing a Script for “Shahenshah 2″ or who has the rights for it. God forbid if that has already been done, then please give me a permission to create a new superhero character for you….Please guide me Sir, and give me a an opportunity to fulfill my Dream of working with You, which is every Director’s dream…….
Sir, my family and millions of families worldwide pray for The Bachchans…..
Your No. 2 Fan,
Pankaj M.

Hi
Your intentions and love for the society and our country is commendable. However, today the society is run by essentially politicians and (their) bureaucrats. Like you said in your previous post corruption in minds ruins everything. Their intentions may be noble but at heart they are all corrupt (majority) and handful of people of are capable of changing this (including our chief mentor of this blog) have chosen to either keep away or just ignore it….
Who is going to do it….may be somebody has to come forward and take lead….
lots of love
Naresh
Mr.Bachchan I loved this particular blog (166).I read it again &again. Tried to understand what you want to covey actually. But all the human beings don’t have that much of courage .because they’re human beings nor super human. It may be easy for you quote success is not final. Because you are on top position. For those strugglers struggling for years couldn’t reach anywhere what about them. Most of them go into deep depression and end their lives. They loose their courage! It is very difficult to survive with out any moral support. I wish more people read this particular blog of yours, and pacify themselves. Only people who are destined they will reach the top! Any how I regularly read your blogs and put some sense into myself sometimes in vain! Any way thank you very much!—jaya
YAY its friday DRONA time
(fingers/legs/arms crossed)
Dear Amitji,
I have posted my views on the media in the previous post. You simply have to see how they covered the red carpet at the Drona premiere to see how they ‘read between the lines’. Actually they invent things as they are both ‘newsless’ and clueless.
They have gone completely berserk. Forget spelling and grammar, they have lost their sense of decency too.
Anshu
Mr. B,
I am a great lover of technology but no one can replace paper. Be it newspaper, our writing pad, books and magazines. These days ebooks have become popular and CD-ROM’s of books that can be listened in car during commute. These are all great means to gain information and knowledge but serve as no replacement to plain old paper.
So all the fellow fans and bloggers please subscribe to atleast one print and support the print industry.
Regards,
Bhavana
Dear Amit sir,
Nice clipping you gave us, but it could reach us only thru electronic media!! (so it has its power, it s only that how we master on it, which you have made ).
I also wonder some times that how to get news of what is being written now in Hindi literature. I’m fond of Hindi literature and had once got to read a lot as many magezines were around us to quench this thirst. But today I find almost vaccume here as all the hindi magezines are dead (or killed) namely, Dharmyug, Saptahik Hindustan, Saarika, Paraag n many more. Today only a few like Kadambini and Navneet are struggling to survive, only to be found at Wheeler’s on railway stations. Even our filmmakers too, can go for a remake of a once hit film but dont want to take up a hindi marvelous piece of lit., ‘coz it demands hard work.
A big treasure is going into ruins….
AM CURRENTLY SEEING THE NEWS ON DRONA AS THUMS DOWN. BUT I FEEL ONE DAY IS TOO SHORT A TIME AS THERE ARE MILLIONS OF VIEWERS WHO ARE YET TO SEE THE MOVIE…..I AM HOPEFUL THE MOVIE WILL BE GOOD AND THAT MY 9 YR OLD DAUGHTER WILL ENJOY…..!! KEEP GOING IS WHAT I WILL TELL ABHISHEK……!!!! CHEERS FROM KATHMANDU AS ALWAYS - VARSHA
dearest amitji…. i have entered and read your blog for the first time… though i cannot go and watch drona this week due to my exams i will always pray for its success…. amitji you always have won respect in my family’s heart not onlydue to your great acting but also due to the small examples that show your and your family’s values and greatness… the time you had to apolize from the marathas initially broke our hearts… but this increased your respect in our hearts… we always pray for all the goodness for you and family….
good luck…

Drona is different. I hope Indian audiences like it. Me and my kids really enjoyed each and every scene. You feel as though you are transported to a different world altogether. Inspite of the reviews I know people will watch the movie. Especially families with children are going to enjoy the movie. Wishing Abhi All the very best.
Amitji,

The good teacher explains,
The superior teacher demonstrates,
The great teacher inspires”
You inspire me.
Good luck with Drona.

Sarkar,
The futility of everything that comes to us from the media is the inescapable consequence of the absolute inability of that particular stage to remain silent. Music, commercial breaks, news flashes, adverts, news broadcasts, movies, presenters—there is no alternative but to fill the screen; otherwise there would be an irremediable void…. That’s why the slightest technical hitch, the slightest slip on the part of the presenter becomes so exciting, for it reveals the depth of the emptiness squinting out at us through this little window.
[Jean Baudrillard] French semiologist.
In the beginning was the word, the word
That from the solid bases of the light
Abstracted all the letters of the void….
[Dylan Thomas]
Lest i say more,
You see, this with in the media war is an on going process, and it continues at diffrent levels, all over the world, Indians are just waking up to it, some are reacting to the change that changing times demand, you amongst them having suffered the ire, or should we say the mantel of filling the void, are justified in demanding a relook, but nothing is going to happen, every moment has to be filled in, period, and if your hard dilligent, working style has made you the poster boy of the media, then instead of finding fair debatable reasons, better would be to rejoice in the pomp and show, for you defy what Wharhol had said once long ago, that every body will have his three minutes of fame in the future.
The artefacts (sic) of a genius are distinguished by rich human content, for which he forges new images and new techniques, creates new styles. He sees himself as a unique eruption in the desert of the banal. He feels himself mysteriously inspired or possessed. The craftsman, on the other hand, is content to use the traditional materials and techniques. The more self-possessed he is, the better craftsman he will be. What pleases him is skill of execution. He is very concerned with his contemporary success, his market value. If a certain kind of political commitment is fashionable, he may be committed; but out of fashion, not conviction. The genius, of course, is largely indifferent to contemporary success; and his commitment to his ideals, both artistic and political, is profoundly, Byronically, indifferent to their contemporary popularity.
[John Fowles], British novelist.

HELLO!!!!
Having watched some of the promo clips for the Unforgettable Tour Broadcast on tv, all I can think is “I can’t wait to see the show again”
I was fortunate to see the first show in Toronto and I was truly pleased with what I saw. Having met all the stars, other than Preity Zinta, you guys were nothing but grateful to your fans and fabulous to watch on stage.
My concern/question arises to you Mr. Bachchan, when you talked to Preity in your Big B’s Den clip, you mention her Veer-Zaara dance and also mention the dance from The Guru that Abhishek and Aishwaria performed to. Us Torontonians’ were not given an opportunity to see these two acts. What is your view or response to why they were not performed in some cities??
I won’t lie, when I heard about those two songs being performed at other shows, I was upset that the Toronto audience wasn’t given the opportunity to see it.
On a side note…. I was the person with the bright yellow “we love the bachchans’” sign in Toronto, well my brother and I were the folks popping it up and down.
The Unforgettable Tour was my fourth time seeing you live on stage….I remember fondly about 10 years ago when you came to Toronto. I was a young child then and you sang mere angane mein and had many ladies come up on stage. I was too young to go up on stage, but i remember you reaching down to me and shaking my hand. I always had a special edge over my brother, who happens to be your biggest fan. Not seeing that song being performed was a little saddening as it reminds me of the time I got quickly shake hands with you. This time my brother was given that opportunity to have the “special edge” as you gave him five opportunities to get a ‘GOOD” picture. I have to say that picture isn’t just good, its great!!!
When you come on tour next time, please sing or dance to Pag Ghunghroo (Namak Halaal). That is perhaps my favourite song.
I look forward from hearing back from you.
Anita
Hi Mr. Bachchan
Interesting article no doubt !
Ever since the satellite tv & umpteen news channels have made its presence felt in our day today lives this debate has been going on with full force.Whether the print media will survive this electronic boom or which of the two is more prudent in providing information… etc…Well we don’t mind as far as we are getting our daily dose.
Have a nice day!
Take care
Love & regards

P.S. I WOULD LIKE TO RESPOND TO COMMENT 91 OF PAYAL AYUSH, NAME OF AB MOVIE THAT U WNATED TO KNOW IS “FARAAR”.

Dear Amitji,
Your comments on the article are correct.
We have not subscribed for cable in our house for that same reason. we rent or buy DVD’s on need basis as watching movies is our favourite way to un-wind on the weekends. My 6yr old also gets to watch a cartoon/kids movie over the weekends.
thank you for sharing this. Today we received 3 posts from you!
sending your way lots of love and bbiiiiggg hug,

MEDIA CAN PLAY A CONSTRUCTIVE ROLE BUT PREFERS TO DAMAGE. MOSTLY CONCERNED WITH INCREASE IN TRP.
ALL GOOD WISHES TO YOU AND FAMILY.
That’s very true sir. Any day, a print media is a print media. You can cut important articles from the paper and keep it safely for future references. Again, reading content from a hard copy is very good for the eye as againt gazing at the comp which could affect our eyesight.
Please reply sir, I haven’t had any reply from you so far.

India trip - Yes better be careful.
Corn and Cobs - That’s mother nature working silently behind the scenes all the time and never asking for any favors in return.
Roses - My favorites too. I have put some pictures of the roses that I have grown in pots, on my blog (still under construction rather painfully). You might see them if I can give the link to you. Queen Mary’s Rose Garden in Regents park used to be my favorite spot. I also do the budding of roses myself which is the best way to propagate roses of your choice.

My daily quota of quotes varies depending on the mood of the blog itself. Since too much of everything is bad, I try to keep them limited. Someone here posted full 100 quotes in a single go. People like me with very limited swimming skills in the waters of serious literature are likely to get drowned under such a deluge.
Hope it is going to be a fulfilling day for you and all.

PS for M - the Roses part.
Your entire family was luking gorgeous at premier of ‘Drona’. It was nice to see Sharukh there with family. Take care!

(539) Day 166
Funny and interesting incident! As I was reading it I could not help visualizing the song “Another Brick in the Wall†by Pink Floyd. I can guess you must be the favorite teacher of the kids (as you might be with many on this blog) though not necessarily with the school management too. With this in mind, better keep one or two job offers in hand just in case (joking)
Where is ‘M’ hiding these days? Any idea?
Reading the main blog for the past few days I can’t help getting the feeling the Mr. Bachchan is, for some reason feeling fatigued and low. The positive energy of the earlier days of the blog is somehow missing. However life goes on despite the low and highs. The festive season is round the corner and you can feel it in the atmosphere.
Enjoy each day as it unfolds.
Subhash Kaura
Dearest Mr. Bachchan,
Interesting post!! And I totally agree. They try to make news from nothing as they have to go on and on and on 24 hours at somebody else’s expense..

Double standards…to be honest no standard for honest comment
hello sir. visited this site today the first time.
i had just started reading the book by your father, Shri Harivansh Rai Bachchan, titled ‘Kya bhoolu kya yad karu’. i had the book since 2004 but never cared to read it. now that i hv found time, i started reading it, and to my amazement it suddenly seems close to my heart.
the things written in the book make me feel that i m reading about my own family, as if something like that really happened in my family too (although it didn’t). may be its the effect of the skilled writing of ur father, or could be because i link the book with myself (coz it continuously talks about a family of kayasths).
whatever the reason be, i m truly impressed by it.
congratulations for Mr. Abhishek’s film Drona.
Namaste,
vinee bhatnagar
Saw Drona yesterday and must say Very impressed with the special effects, though hope it could be more fights and fun..something like want to see more action!! One disappointment tho, Abhishek should have been dressed better..I am sure director had his own vision but I felt Abhishek ’s height and persona could have been highlighted better..got the feeling GB could have flaunted him more..overall good entertainer..must watch for my 6 year old son!!!special effects rock!!
Achcha thik hain..jaiye…hum bhi aap se baat nahin karenge x-(
Hmm. It will be a matter of time really, that hand held devices (Mobiles, ipods, etc) or a new device would be developed, which displays TV channels. Then books will be passe. Everything will be electronic. As it is Japan has developed a plastic sheet, wherein the entire newspaper can be read. Nothing stopping anyone to make such a device for television. I mean if TV channels are streamed on mobile, everyone would be only too happy to access them while travelling or during cricket matches or for some events, information (in classrooms as well). Only a matter of time. Of course in India, a matter of centuries.
Hehehe..So u accepted my comment..Don’t get angry again..but I have to say this, “Hum se door jaoge kaise, dil se hume bhulaoge kaise..Hum wo khushboo hai jo sanson me baste hain, khud ke sanson ko rok paoge kaise? “
Hi,
‘You will not be punished for your anger; you will be punished by your anger.’
A nice twist of ‘by’ and ‘for’ there.
But sometimes, when we are angry with ourselves, we let that anger out on others. I’ve done that inadvertently so many times!
Was happy to read this at the CNN/IBN:
(Thanks Srikanth for the link:43)
“The NBA has 30 news channels as members and has formed a broad code of conduct which includes:
- Impartiality and objectivity in reporting
- Ensuring crime and violence are not glorified
- Not reveal the identity of victims of child abuse and rape
- Respect the privacy of indivisuals (sic)
[An instant of bad editing by the media!]
- No depiction of superstition or nudity
- No sex and sleaze in sting operations
]
[HAH!
- All channel websites to have provisions to receive viewer feedbackâ€
I only hope that they stick by it and not just provide lip service. Or Show-Shaa.
I remember reading somewhere that during the Iron Curtain days, the Indian ‘Blitz’ was set up to spread disinformation. ( The paper went on to develop its own cult status!). Similarly the scare is that the internet is being used in much the same way. We are, most of us, by nature so gullible; Anything directed at us in a wink-wink-nudge-nudge fashion (OR blatantly) is easily swallowed. There is going to be an equivalent of a Big-Bang on the internet!
One other issue I’d like for you to comment on concerns the most insensitive remarks by that ignomarous Sheila Dixit! (Please don’t expect us to show her any respect. Respect is earned not demanded).
Her atrocious comments regarding the young journalist Soumaya who was shot dead on her way back from work at 3 a.m. To say that it was ‘adventurous’ of her to travel at that time of the night is downright damning and shameful.
Instead of trying to address the law and order issue, she pushes the blame on the girl for being killed. DISGUSTING.
Some of us are working women, and have to travel alone, does she think by working we are being ‘adventurous’? This could happen anywhere, and to a man. Just because she and her family are surrounded by security, does it mean that the rest of the women in India should stay at home? What is she? The new TALIBAN LEADER? Yes, I am angry, but I also believe my anger is not wrongly directed.
I remember her interviews when the ‘blue bus’ incidents were happening and booze bottles were found under the drivers seats. She appeared most blasé.
She should be forced to resign.
From where to where.
The navratras are splendid to watch. All those beautiful dresses and the intricate steps! Sometimes I feel it’s a movie scene I’m watching. But a truly magnificent sight.
Wishes for health and happiness

Hola, Mr B
and thanks Subhash for your post to me. Will keep that in mind.
Got up at 5.30 am with Indie insisting on an early morning walk..when I got back (it was brrrr cold), I set about cooking beef with garlic and ginger (oh, I need to pour the whole eau de toilette on me now) and fresh beans to be served with rice. With today’s cooking out of the way, I should b able to catch up with the deluge of posts from AB.
With the strike at the moment (how long for??), I guess AB, you are going to respond to the comments??????
I have not read the blogs yet and as I have a book to cover for Tanya before she leaves for school in 30 minutes, better get going! She, bless her, goes to a grammar school 1 hour’s bus journey away and leaves at 7.30 am!
Still, Abji..say this ‘Thanks Reshmi for all the hard work you put in on my blog. It is a privilege to read your comments everday and I always look forward to it. Love, yours Amitabhji’!
Love and lots of it
Reshmi
Sir,
Yesterday I saw Abhishek in one of the teleserials ‘Balika Vadhu’. He was brilliant, in fact the pain & frustration seemed so real. He looked every bit your son in that scene. Wow! How certain traits are in your genes, you are born with them…
Hello Amitji,
Media do helps in enriching our knowledge. But it has a bad side too. At times, it is also a cheap journalism. Many a times, i have seen, whether it is Aaj Tak, or 24×7, or India TV or any other news channel, they go on repeating the news, until you get irritated. Also, sometimes the statistical data presented on each news channel are not uniform.
Anyways, the big day has passed. At last, “Drona” got released. But the reviews are mixed. I have seen, unlike Hollywood, this superficial movies doesn’t carry any weightage in Bollywood. The greatest example is your movie “Toofan”. I don’t know why, our producers and directors go on producing these kind of movies, as if they are under the impression that public is fool. But i must say at this juncture, actors have all done their respective jobs. The script is weak.
Have a nice day ahead.
With lots of love,
Nilang Rindani
(Baroda, Gujarat)
Respected Amit Sirji,
Sir, it is rightly said that pen is mightier than a sword. How true, it is? But most of the time media reports the other way around and they are the only who practice yellow journalism?
Have a nice day.

HI!
Wasn’t ‘hiding’ anywhere, Subhash! Call it Fate, the day after a announced gladly that I’m leaving my phone and consequently the Net conked out! Was occupying myself with Diwali cleaning and some writing! Also arranging a surprise B’day party for a lovely student of mine. The other children giggled so much that they almost gave the game away. Had to give an Oscar peformance to ensure that girl, Roopal. won’t be absent tomorrow, her birthday.
What’s going on here? Don’t know something seems to be missing??? Apart from sir’s indiv. replies.
How’s your blog coming up Subhash? Reshmi, Rose will write to you soon- though not today, guess what i’ll be busy doing this eve.– judging a ‘dandiya’ competition— Rose, It’s a folk dance from Gujarat, now famous all over India during these days thanks to Bollywood! Have you seen Sir’s danadiya in ‘Suhaag’? Nice one!
Subhash, is this the right time to plant some new roses? Or should it be later when it is colder?
See ya

Hi to Gilga , Deepti too, sorry for missing you out.
Gilga, completely agree with you- that is what a majority says and feels - without realizing that it may be for work that the poor girl was out at that hour. Only time will tell what happened in Soumya’s case but with the law and order situation the way it is, maybe all of us (men included) should be back in our homes by sundown and stay there. But then what about those bombings which have happened in broad daylight? SAD!
Reeham, Belated but a very happy Id to you! Couldn’t wish yesterday as my NET was not connecting.
Deepti- You’ve become quite a regular, I see! Keep it up! How’s work?
love

Hi Amit Jee!
Hope u R fine.Wish U n Abhi best of luck 4 Drona
I think this went missing! So reposting
Hola, Mr B
and thanks Subhash for your post to me.
Love and lots of it
Reshmi
Namastey Amit Ji
I’m your fan since my childhood. when i was 5 my younger brother watched your movie dostana. it was 1980 or 1981. He used to tell me about the story while mimicing your face ( he used to xetand his lower lip and asked me whether he is looking like amitabh bachchan). we also used to sing songs - “Salamt rahe” and “sadak par akeli chali ja rahi thi”. leater we wateched your all movies on video at officer’s club in moradabad where my father was posted. Sholey was hot fav. and then we came to know anbout the accident. we prayed to god fo your well being. we were in 6th standard. you were not there in films for a long period but you were in the hearts of your fan. and you were there in magazines and nwespapers. then came the news of you coming back and we waited for your next movie. however all these movies (frankly saying) were not for you and were ill trated but sill iy was a trat to see you on big screen. at that time we used to think that you are so far away from us living in another world but because of the technology i am now sharing my thoughts with you.
thanks amit ji for giving us graet movies in our childhood.
Dearest Mr. B,
Now that you have some free time, can you please reply to us individually??..
Plllleeeeaaaase..
Love you
Ami
To Mr Manoj grover
Mr grover if a news channel decide on the basis of their advertisements what will be the credibility of a news channel. I think that criticism by a single person of a film or a literature is useless because viewers are the best judge. If film is good it will surely clik no matter what critics are saying. Being a fan of amit ji it is our duty o tell him the truth abouthis films and work so. we should not behave like a blind lover but we shoul become eyes and ear of Amit ji. isn’t it. so cool down and pray that no News channel should decide airing of news on the basis of its financial parts. t
thanks
dear sir,
how are you. it has been a while since i wrote t you. though i have been reading your blog regularly.
the media clipping was amusing who gets precedence over their self proclaimed right to form our opinions. the use of the word “deconstructive” left me vaguely uncomfortable. the accepted use of the word following the work of the french philosopher “Jacques Derrida” has been quite different from the way you used it.somehow the fact you used it made it seem worse than it actually is, blame it on a newly found/formed addiction to the quality of your prose.lovingly look forward to a small note.
love and laughter,
Andrews, Delhi
Good morning Mr Bachchan…
How is thee this morning? And what will thee do with the strike on? Well what ever doth decide please do not do nowt, else you will end up thinking far too much!! And when you do, you end up being far too philosophical and low!! Avoid this at all cost. PLEASE! For our sakes!!
Or put a chat line on your blog and we can entertain you instead!
Hope you have a nice day.
Love as always…

P.S. Still no time to reply to this post! Sorry. Not even time to read what I am typing so any typo error these days I do not even bother correcting them. Sometimes simply no time. About to leave and I will be back in an a couple of hour or so. Will log back in then!
M - Glad to see you. I was starting to think you abandoned ship!
Shubash - I will answer you later!
Morning or day to everyone else!!
Hi Amitabh
This is my first and obviosly like others here am also your biggest fan. I hope ‘Amitabh’ is fine.
I have found reading on paper easier and much more relaxing. No strain and absolutely nothing to do, just sit back and flick when you want. If this is what people continue to seek I think nothing would surpass our old fashion print media, atleast as far as we can imagine. Futuristically, as is already happenning, if on birth new borns toy with laptops, then…… I guess one will be looking up the ceiling when browsing through a days news on his bed.
Regards
SS
Oh sorry M, will answer you later too!

Dear Sir,
If you read this, please acknowledge.
Saw DRONA yesterday itself…Abhi dear rocks !!! Even Kay Kay Menon is fab…d movie has got some great special effects & is a visual delight ! There were plenty of kids in the crowd @ the theatre & they’d luv it 4 sure…All in all, a must watch!
Sir, let me be completely honest with you, for i owe you that for sure : there were 2 front rows empty in the hall. A lot of people were laughing in the most serious scenes (like the one in which Drona meets his mother, Maharani Jayati Devi).
Actually, if you go through some of the blogs on net & the comments on Goldie Behl’s interview on Rediff.com, you’ll come to know that many people had written the worst about the movie even before it was released!
But, trust me Sir, this is a big attempt! A FIRST to make a movie of this kind, what with all these superb special effects… I am sure people who have any inkling of this being a small step towards that long, competitive journey would definitely appreciate it.
AND, I, as your admirer & a part of your family, stand by you, forever & ever!
Best Wishes & Regards to my extended family,
Anukriti Srivastava
Drona review that’s very apt, give ur honest opinion..
Drona essentially is designed as a superhero film but sadly his superpowers seem to be nothing more than delivering punches. The film starts on a dull note and as it progresses it starts resembling an Arabian Nights fable of the 80s in the likes of Hatim Tai (to tacky effect), with a protagonist who has to overcome obstacles to complete his mission. Unfortunately the blockages in his path are so bland that the lackluster screenplay loses its audience midways. Everything from the car-chases to the sword fights have been witnessed before and don’t impress. If the cheesiness wasn’t enough, a Gandalf look-alike is added towards the end inciting unintentional humour.
Abhishek Bachchan is a good actor but certainly doesn’t have the poise, polish or personality to grace a superhero. He lacks both, the bulk and the body language to carry off his larger-than-life character. Add to that, he carries a single jaded expression throughout the film much to your annoyance. Kay Kay Menon adorns a gayish and garish character and enters the league of caricatured villains.
Drona keeps repeating his primary concern through the film saying, ” humey shrishti ko bachna hoga “. There’s an implausible pun involved therein as I realized that the producer of this film is called Shrishti Arya. Evidently Drona’s outcome is rona .
Hello Sir
Happy Navratri and Eid Mubarak!
Sorry to be a pain but I think the word ‘deconstructive’ has been used wrongly.
de•con•struc•tion
a philosophical and critical movement, starting in the 1960s and esp. applied to the study of literature, that questions all traditional assumptions about the ability of language to represent reality and emphasizes that a text has no stable reference or identification because words essentially only refer to other words and therefore a reader must approach a text by eliminating any metaphysical or ethnocentric assumptions through an active role of defining meaning, sometimes by a reliance on new word construction, etymology, puns, and other word play.
deconstruction and deconstructive criticism noun an approach to critical analysis applied especially to literary texts which asserts that it is impossible for any text to communicate a fixed and stable meaning, and that readers should leave behind all philosophical and other concepts when approaching a text. deconstructionist noun, adj.
ETYMOLOGY: 1970s.
Coming to the TV vs. print media question, print media wins every single time (definitely in India).
Most of the purported news channels in India are not presenting news, they are presenting sensationalism. There is no balance in the way the news is presented.
I find that the only news worth watching is the Doordarshan news. They might not be ‘flash’ and speaking in pseudo-foreign accents but at least what they present can be called news.
The coverage of the recent bomb blasts by most news channels – blood, bodies, torn body parts being shown…that is not news…that is just grabbing eyeballs!
The insensitivity of it all is quite intolerable.
I read in the paper that we can complain about what is being shown but there is a charge to be paid for making the complaint. And if the matter is probed then all further charges also have to be borne by the complainant. What a scam!!!
I could go on and on but…
What a travesty of the saying ‘A picture is worth a thousand words’.
Regards,
RKaran
P.S. I am sure there are mistakes in my writing too, please excusez moi.
Bade Bhaiyaji,
We expect Oranges(P-media) from a Mango tree(E-media)……either we cut the tree or change our “Expectations”…….as we know both r legendary in their own minds and thoughts…..i remember post to when cell phones were launched, and many did’nt pocess ‘then’…..gave lame excuses of not having one….but today it has become like having a ‘wife’….every idiot has one !.

1) Are you and Shahrukh really patch up?
2)What is the truth in recent Prakash Mehra’s comments against you?
3)What is ur comment about the new action hero Abhishek Bachchan?
Sir, I am not a TV or Newspaper reporter but a die-heart fan of yours. Please answer
Thank You
I agree, I also read this article and indeed found it interesting and thought provoking. Both of the forms of journalism have their own advantages and they should both thrive. Taking the print media to bed was a good point made here.. and for me the it’s ease of reading & the consolidation of comprehensive news at one place.

Dear Sir,
This article indeed gives us some food for thought, but I’d rather gorge on some other delicacies being served by you…. in the form of those lovely lovely quotations!!!
Keep ‘em coming, Sir! For they are not just words…. they’re GEMS!
Which reminds me of one very beautiful quotation I read about 20 years ago and still remember it very often! Here it is:
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Looking forward to more & more quotations & teachings from you,

Dear Sir,
I just want to add that a regulatory body needs to be put in place in order to keep the channels from going overboard with their efforts to become no.1. Also, there are channels who are creating panic among the viewers by fuelling superstition in the name of religion.
There are umpteen channels whose actions needs to be corrected.

hi sir,
why abhishek is still weak on selecting of movies & scripts, why you dont help him, bcoz i really dont like any of Bachchan’s movie to go flop, pls.make a awesome movie under AB corp,a script where i want to see you coming up in the same way as in 70’s Angry young man, fighting against politics, injustice.
Why Abhi is still shy,let him come out in a big way, with great dialogues & fights
which should be very realistic not like super hero.
Pls.do it once more,

Very well said the most irritating question TV anchors ask is (without realizing the given situation they are in ) AAP KAISA FEEL KAR RAHEN HAIN ….ISS WAQT KAISA LAGRAHA HAI AAPKO .I am sure some day ,some one is going to slap one of these so called TV reporters.
DRONA Review in our local Dainik Bhaskar is good ,planning to see on Sunday.
Sir I am daring this third time in continuation only because as YOU said because of the strike you are at home & got some time ,wish you read my mail & respond to it
Sir once again,Hope you pardon me for this (3rd time) ,Sir as I mentioned in some of my previous mails also I have an IDEA for a story & its marketing which can be made into a not just successful but a film that could make PEOPLE EFFECTED &/OR CONNECTED WITH TERRORISM THINK AGAIN & if successful ( which it would be)can make a huge difference in every body`s approach towards this problem.
Sir IDEA good or bad, right or wrong can not be decided until not heard.
Is this so IM-POSSIBLE.
Lovingly….as always.

I totally agree with it. Nothing beats the feel of print and I love reading!
Hahahaha! Quite humorous…
Dear Mr Bachan
My apologies for not addressing you in the manner that all your other ‘fans’ do on this blog ‘Sir, Respected Sir, Sahib, Big B etc’. I beleive in equality and therefore do not consider you above me. I have been reading your blog when I am extremely bored and have been toying with the idea of writing to you but feel that I must - There are three immediate glaring abnormalities that spring to mind :-
1. Ignorance and Insensitivity
‘Recession does not effect films. Guess one needs the entertainment to bear the uncertainties of the financial markets. Ha.. Ha Sept 20th’.
This was fortunately one of your own ‘original quotes’. You are clearly ignorant on global and financial crisis. Had you stopped and read the news properly you may have realised that the 20th day of September 2008 was one of the worst days in the financial market for the last 70 years. Countless people have lost their jobs and thousands more are facing redundancy. These are hard-working, educated, unassuming people who have suffered through no fault of their own. How dare you ‘Ha Ha’. If they were not working day and night to keep this global economy going then the likes of you would not be making movies, writing ridiculous blogs and earning money. Spare a thought for those who have helped you to line your pockets. The least you could do is be a bit more sensitive !!
2. Hypocrisy
You make great play of ‘environmental issues’ - saving the world, condemning aviation fuels which pollute the environment …. but on your blog 28th September 2008,
‘fearing traffic on the way back the production organizes a helicopter for us quite graciously. We take about 15 mins to get back. Right at my doorstep virtually in Prateeksha. So convenient and such a saving of time.’
So, pray tell me, your car that you drove up there in drove back to Mumbai anyway (the pollution by petrol and the cost) and in addition the fuel used to pollute the skies by your helicopter !! So what happened to the good ol’ ‘GREEN ISSUES’
3. Originality or rather, the lack of !
Your blog seemed to start off being relatively ‘normal’. Unfortunately the blog that I have read over the last few months beggars belief. Most of it is utter plagiarism. There are quotes that you use that are not yours. The words of Winston Churchill, Karl Marx and even Tony Blair. Mr Bachan - You have mislead the general innocent Indian public that read your blog into beleiving that these are your words. Simply because the masses that do read your blog would not recognise these as words from some of our great leaders, you thought you would be clever. Oh, and by the way, plagiarism is a criminal offence in this country !!
No doubt you may not allow this message to be published, but please - read it and take heed.
“Believe nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see,” A French proverb ……..

Loving Sir…..
i heard a lot about your blog…. really its heart touching…..
Sir here is 1 thing that i specially want to say that why media and other people compare u with other’s……. KING IS ALWAYS KING AND ONLY ONE ……..
Other one’s have to more learnt from u…..becoz life is not a song…..it is a dramatic story with up’s and down’s ….. and u teach us a moral chapter of life as a real HERO…now we can understand how to live a happy and honourd life….
Dear Sir,
We are all moving towards modern technology………..it is much faster & accessable.Always better to be with the pace.
By the way ,i loved the way you recite “MADHUSHALA”.
Regards
i love this game …!!!!
I stumbled across the Premiere Photos of DRONA - while a nice event, somewhat disappointed to see the ‘asian women of India’ who have somewhat left their cutlture, rich heritige of wearing Indian outfits especially the beautiful six yard sari….which reflects the epitome of Indian classic beauty behind at home and have all donned short skirts and low cut tops! - Ironic that living in an Indian country; attending a very Indian movie; you see the ladies trepsing around in very western clothing (seems they’re all tied up in a big identity crisis) - I sometimes wonder why they even bother to wear what seems a waste of half a yard of clothing around their bodies - may as well come in their ‘birthday suit’ ….. From a Westerner’s viewpoint - that being my own, i can only chuckle at the display of the identity crisis the ‘elite’ women of India are going through….. Beauty lies in going back to one’s roots and sticking to it….
Nice that you feel the same way as a common man feels, despite being under huge media scrutiny.
When the 24*7 news channels came about, I was in a hostel in Mussoorie and was not much exposed to television, but it did not stop me from wondering, what will they show for 24 hours, seven days a week. Perhaps the producers of news channels are in the same state, they keep wondering what should they show and come up with devil’s ideas.
Recently, in Bokaro Steel City, Jharkhand, owing to these news channels and their exaggeration of a slow down in financial status of ICICI bank, drove the customers of the bank to extract all their money from the bank, much to the harrassment of the manager.
I just hope all the media controversies created around you does not trouble you much. May God grant you and your family good health and happiness

I agree with you entirely.
We have such insensitive clowns handling such key posts - and most are like that - highly unqualified for and ignorant of the responsibilities involved, just clinging to the seats of power at any cost - enjoying the perks, loving the high security and glamour, raising their own salaries every now and then, cutting ribbons, laying foundation stones (to an uncertain future), keeping the big bosses in good humor etc. That’s all they are good at doing.
It is really unfortunate that knowledgeable and competent people who can really do a good job, stay away from it. Strangely there are no minimum qualifications or character requirements to join this very paying (for self) profession. I would very much like to see persons of high caliber like Shashi Tharoor and Amuitabh Bachchan to step in. Persons with understanding, vision and compassion. Only then we may hope to see better days.
Here the residue rules. The best brains of the country either leave the country or join result oriented innovative world of business and industry via IIMs and IITs. From the residue emerges this P class to rule over the masses. How unfortunate !
Subhash Kaura
Thumbs Down! - really not worth your two cents; i’d sit home and rather watch and oldie - even kids as young as 5 felt they were better off doing their homework for 3 hours than to watch nonsense. Costumes didnt fit with what was being portrayed; dialogue was just a joke (literally); AB looked like he needed to go on the Aitken’s diet; Priyanka just knows how to pout although she wasnt bad (for a change)… AB just doesnt have what it takes to be an action hero - other than his height! - at least they tried; failures are the pillars to success remember.
Bade Bhaiyaji,
Just a suggestion….Abhi should now try some or one of the Late Mr.Guru Dutt’s production movies, and i believe Vishal Bharadwaj would be a better choice to Diect the same.

Re your article, absolutely agree. Electronic media has become a better source of entertainment than the soppy saas bahu crap we have these days on television. This too shall pass..hopefully and we will see some worthwhile journalism coming our way..only if they are not shot down trying to be “adventurous”..
Re review on Drona, the most overrated clan in our country are the crtics..if you think you have done justice, let the masses give their ruling..bunch of people who got off the wrong side of bed don’t mean anything…

Dear sir,
Here are some quotes –
“ “They used to say man’s life was a closed book. So it is but it’s an open newspaper.â€
Finlay Peter Dunne, 1902
“When a dog bites a man that is not news, but when a man bites a dog that is news.â€
John B. Bogart, Editor NY Sun, 1882
This is old fashion now Today
in media it may be Breaking NEWS for negligence in the part of municipal authority..
and if Dog was caught or kill then also be a Breaking news for the group and association of protection of Animal and pet animal or for the group of making street Dog in the pet Dog .
“People don’t actually read newspapers. They step into them every morning like a hot bath.”
Communications theorist Marhsall McLuhan
now it is more for Electronic media too ..
TO BECOME FIRST IN NEWS .. they don’t hesitate to live telecast of a person burning to death
“My doctors told me this morning my blood pressure is down so low that I can start reading the newspapers.â€
Ronald Reagan, US President, 1987
“News is what somebody somewhere wants to suppress; all the rest is advertising.â€
Lord Northcliffe
it is fact that ADVERTISEMENT plays Dominant role to survive media industry . Media is not charitable trust some one say true now concept of Editorial changes to ADVERTORIAL.
“To Read a newspaper for the first time is like coming into a film that has been on for an hour. Newspapers are like serials. To understand them you have to take knowledge to them; the knowledge that serves best is the knowledge provided by the newspaper itself.â€
V.S. Naipaul, novelist, 1987
we are living in Breaking culture , it is good to read or see if some one say with word ‘BREAKING’ ,
Breaking News also have a fate of Break time, take Break , take Break fast
we have allergy to listen the word ‘Constructing’ .
As far concern of spelling or mistakes it is a part of job not given too much concern ..
Pahle ke jamaane mein Guru, maata -pitaa bachchon ko newspaper padne ki salaah dete the jis se Behtar bhasha ki bhi jaankari bade ab aisa a nahin hai .. sahitya , darshan pichche chhut gaya hai .
aisa bhi aksar hota hai electronic media 24x 7 hour ek hi news
kate hue Record ki tarah chalta rahta hai.
“Phir bhi Bhagam bhag Zindagi mein kuchch pal aise bhi hote hai,
Tanhai mein Yahi Saath rahte hain ”

Namashkar!
Some trade pundits have declared Drona is Dud?
My personal opinion is that never have I watched a Hindi movie of such scale- the grandeur, the action, the special effects, the concept- everything rocked! Much can be debated about the pace of the movie, but i give a damn to those who say that this is a slow moving movie! I watched it last night and was totally engrosed for the 2 and half hours!
I request to the readers of this blog, please don’t go by the reviews of the movie! I vouch for it- I felt like all my childhood memories when i used to read Amar Chitra Katha and Indrajaal Comics came back. Seriously guys, the movie is to be viewed not with any prejudices, and I promise you - u all will love it as I did!
Somehow everybody is loving to hate the movie, even before they have watched it! That’s what I call destiny - u cant fight that! But those who have watched the movie and loved it must raise their voices in support of the movie! We need to encourage these filmmakers who dare to break the shackles of bollywood formula!
Join me for a noble cause.
By the way, this is one movie which should be banned on tv screens, this is a genuine big screen entertainer.
Always Yours,
Vishal Singh
Hi Amitabh
Not sure whether it can be destructive, evolution is a way of life and that destruction is an ongoing process in the evolution
But yes print media is important as it has better reach. There are still people who can barely spare 1.50 RS to buy a newspaper forget about elctronic gadgets , laptops and emails. I know people and places where buying a newspaper and reading it is a Sunday Recreation
Food for thought !!!

Hello Mr. Bachchan,
I am extremely in an awe of your insight to different aspects in this world. We get to read something new, something good and very refreshing from you. I love to read your blogs.
We stay in Ireland, and so we wont be able to see any of the movies releasing until they are shown on the television channels. So, read many reviews of Drona..all mixed, but one was very upsetting. It stated that Abhishek’s body language is too weak to be groomed as a superhero. Moreover, it also has made a fun out of the movie, as only one particular dialogue gets repeated..Abhishek is having only one kind of an expression in the movie, and above all, Drona has become RONA…..
You, not only are a father of Abhishek, but a very good critic of him, and in general a perfect person in this industry to dissect the movie and narrate the goods and bads of it.
I would like to hear your views on the movies, and would only believe you. I dont think so, that it could be that bad as its written. There is something that is going against your family without any reason. I am damn sure, cent percent sure that the upcoming movie Dostana is gonna be a superhit…
Well, to be frank enough, I too love to see Abhishek in intelligent comedy, drama and satirical movies more than highly special effects decorative movies. He was awesome in Dhoom..so such kind does suit him more..but I found his body language, expressions in Drona promos very interesting..and then reading the reviews made me think the otherway.
You tell us the truth….I am eager to know it.
Take care

Dear Mr B,
Sorry for not being active in the blog for the last few days due to much workload. Am back now and enjoying catching up the last few days’ posts.
Would love to chat with you sometime regarding media and its role (and responsibilities) - the fine balance between freedom of speech/expression and the misuse of power. My husband in fact used to be a political and economic journalist and is now a spokesperson for a governmental agency. So the change from reporting to being quoted himself in the newspapers, on TV and radio is really interesting.
Love from Brussels

Hello Hello Big B of the World.
How is it goin??
Watched Drona. To be honest the movie has been made well. The graphics were par excellence to challange the west. We have broke the barrier.
Well the story was predictable like any super hero movie. But Drona is not a Superhero he is like a guard a secret keeper a protector.
Media have been thrashing the movie like nothing and it is predictable from their part.
Many people complain the lack of action no part of Abhishek Bachchan. Let me tell you this:
1) Superman 1 released there were not many action sequence or anything until the last 30 minutes. It took Superman II with full Action flick to continue the journey. Superman 1 was just a base introduction of where he came from what he did how he evolved and made his place in the world. So does Drona does.
2) Matrix =, does anyone recall the movie plot. Hello it was the female who was fighting protecting Neo (keanu reeves) who was going under training finding his destiny. When I watched Matrix first time I dozed off, wondering what the movie is all about? Where is it going? I thought it was a disaster movie at first even with great special effects. I had to watch it twice and then I realised the concept. That Matrix 1 was just all about finding the path for Neo, to find his destiny. The action in Matrix was last 30 minutes, before that it was all about him to realise his destiny. No one complained
3) Harry Potter, same goes here. Harry was weak wizard in front, but he was a strong wizard inwards, which he doesn’t know. All the time it was the girl who was smart and Harry Potter was just like normal who doesn’t know his purpose.
I am just surprised to the way Drona has been criticized. If India movie is made in a different approach we criticize that it has no base line. Don’t anyone get this, that this is an introdcutory plot. I hope Drona 2 comes out, as I believe it will have a lot more action sequence to show that why Drona 1 was made the way it have been made.
The movie will generate fare business and cover its cost either way. Mr Big B not to worry here.
If reviewers and moviegoers can give a hit to third class copy cat Partner(copy of Hitch) and the movie becomes hit (which is a disgrace) then Drona is one of a kind movie and it will fare well. Just like Critics try to sink Sarkar Raj but Sarkar Raj came out well in the end.
When Sholay released it was write off by critics first. Now Sholay is the GOD of Indian cinema.
For the people WATCH DRONA. Don’t go with comparisons in mind.
“Aaj Khush Toh Bahut Honge Tum!” –> Hum toh hai.
RESPECTED SIR ,
I M BIGGEST FAN OF YOU & HOPE THAT DRONA DOSE WELL AT BOX OFFICE SIR I MYSELF HAVE WRITTEN A SCRIPT & LOOKING FOR A PRODUCER TO MAKE A FILM ON THIS SCRIPT

My dearest Mr Bachchan…
Excuse - no time to check what one is writing.
I agree with the excess of TV viewing proving “decontructive”, specially in the minds of young children. Here in the West now TV almost replaces the need to look after children in some homes. The parents are far too busy and thus prefer to put the children in front of the telly to watch what they will and at their own whim. So sad to see so many of these programmes does not promote good education but rather promote bad manners and bad communication skill to the public in general are being promoted! Some programmes are simply debased and even the cartoons children watch these days are far too violent and even promote violence. I find in today’s society we seem to encourage our children to roam at will, be it on their TV watching or surfing the net, and without parental supervision, instead of spending time with them to educate and prepare them for their adult life! Somehow this good grounding habit within family life is losing it’s grip! Only the future can tell how much damage this has on the younger generation. But I think it is too late now to reverse the effect as society in general, is now governed by the “Electronic Mediums”.
We, society in general, are electronically charge even in the remotest of places nowadays. I remember being on holiday once in the Philippines. One beautiful morning I borrowed a Jeep so that I could drive to a village to visit some friends and family members, and the road I needed to take went through acres and acres of rice paddies. Since it was very early in the morning and still a little dark I parked the Jeep on the side of the road ( the width no wider than a track really) to spend a little time watching the sunset. And right there and then a ring tone from a mobile phone went off but I could not see where it was coming from. Then suddenly an old man stood up, mobile phone in hand, right in the middle of the rice paddies, to answer!. Ha! ha! ha!
So I guess it doesn’t matter where we are, what position in society our life belongs to, we can be in a 5 star hotel, on a boat in the middle of the Bahamas, lassoing a wild stallion in the Andes, planting rice in a rise paddies, or riding a buffalo on a dirt track - Electronics and Cyber Space gets us all! Amazing!
I do tend to make a rule of not reading the news papers while in bed. For me personally, I think it makes too much clutter and fidgety to have as a bedtime read. And I like my mind peaceful before I fall asleep. News are so disturbing all the time. So no news at all if possible before bedtime. I prefer a good book. I tend to have books next to the bed for reading instead, including your dad’s autobiography which I have read but from time to time when you mention something in the blog and I vageuly remember a reference to what you are talking about, then I get intrugue and read the incident from the book to refresh my memory of it. And funnily enough so is your, “Soul Curry” for you and me, along with Little Women, Gone with the Wind, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, The Heroes and the Water Babies and all sorts. But I do have a laptop too in my room. I find it useful for when I need to send email, catching up with news which are not covered in England, ie. your death scare and the Bombing in Delhi. So I guess both the papers and Electronics can be useful.
I wonder how you are spending your day without going to work?? Using Electronics or reading papers or both?? And how are you finding it?? Is it hard??
Anyway whatever it is that you are doing, enjoy!!
Catch you later and with Love…

Drona Review
Yet it’s Drona’s story, so everything can be forgiven if his sword can cut through the screen and capture your hearts. Krrish despite its numerous clichés worked because you rooted for Hrithik every time he flew. Abhishek says his lines sincerely but for mankind’s only hope he looks terribly out of shape. His shabby hair, stubble and ill-fitted white costume hardly make him the super hero kids would like to imitate. Because if Drona is actually meant for kids, it’s way too dull with complicated dialogues for the little ones.
Flashback to any fantasy or superhero film that you have liked. Apart from the action, what stays with you are the dialogues, replete with memorable one-liners or wisecracks. Drona’s dialogues have neither the bite nor the wit to engage you. Everyone is forever frowning and the ‘wannabe’ comic book fantasy ends up taking itself too seriously.
M
I was really starting to think you had taken things to heart and left us! So glad to see you haven’t!! Did you have withdrawal symptom without the net??!
)
I hope the surprise party goes according to your plan. And how is the preparation for Divali/Diwali going? (And just as I was writing Divali I checked on the net on alternative spelling for it and it is coming up with Vivaldi???!!! I guess the net is not as clever as it thinks but very musical it would seem!
Perhaps the something amiss in the blog you are noticing is the feel of “zest of life” that it used to have before the “bitter melon” infiltrated it! Give me some lemon and I will sprinkle some “zing” to the blog again!!
Or best yet Mr Bachchan I am sure cannot only put a zing back to the blog but lift it out of the blues altogether!!
The judging a ‘dandiya’ competition sounds interesting and fun! Anyone can suggest where I can see a sample of this dance? I will be very grateful. No I have not seen Sir’s danadiya in ‘Suhaag’. Where can I see it???
Hope you are having a good day. Sounds hectic down your end.

By all means try and give the link.
So do you also have much roses growing? Which roses do you grow. There are so many types now.
Yes, I have seen some of Mr. Dharmendra’s films and some with Mr Bachchan too, he was good in “Sholay” but his raw appeal which attracted a lot of “she-fans” somehow never appealed to this “she”! No offence to Mr Darmendra!
If your quota of quotes depends on the mood of the blog itself then perhaps vice - versa. The mood of the blog perhaps also reacts to how much qoute is quoted. But ultimately we know the cheerfulness of the blog is either uplifted or deflated by Mr Bachchan himself. But everyone has a bad day so we can’t expect him to be the bearer of merriment all the time.
Yes, I did see someone here posted a full 100 quotes in a single go but I think that was copied from their own blog already. And very funny the, “very limited swimming skills in the waters of serious literature….. likely to get drowned under such a deluge”
Just take a tank of oxygen. You’ll be fine!
Hope your day too is good

Your comment was very witty and funny!!
“The one thing that is keeping me from reading more books is this stupid computer, which I didn’t have before you started blogging! So you see it’s all your fault! JUST KIDDING AROUND.”
Ah but he has also rewarded you so much also in return!! So a win win situation for you and Mr Bachchan there then.
Did you say you were getting a new cat? How is that going?
Hope you are having a lovely day.

Your comment today on Sheila Dixit
I found that shocking that she was so insensitive and disrespectful to the deceased. Obviously wrote the article w/out knowing the facts. Why do these journalist keep doing this??
How are you? Busy like M?

Dear all,
Just came from cinema house watched Drona.
Path breaking movie. Hats off. The movie is well made and SFX are brilliant.
My friends who are european and they praised the movie and waiting for the DVD to come out.
They said Drona is 100 times better than the latest Indiana Jones. ALl critics shut your stinky mouth. Rest of the people writing bad about the movie are pure jealous useless SOB’s.
Thumbs up to Drona. Goldie Behl has joined the top directors bandwagon. Welcome Goldie.
Bapu always tells the truth. Trust me I am Bapu the righteousness.

WHY DO YOU THINK THAT MR BACHCHAN’S PRIMAL REASON FOR SENDING EID GREETINGS TO ALL HIS LOVERS WAS A CALCULATED MOVE?
YOU STATE THAT HE ONLY DID THIS SO MORE PEOPLE WATCH DRONA AND HIS FAN CLUB INCREASES…..ARE YOU SERIOUS? I MEAN DO YOU ACTUALLY BELIEVE WHAT YOU WRITE???
YOUR CRITICISM OF THE MEDIA CHANNELS FOR NOT MENTIONING MAHATMA GANDHI IS REASONABLE BUT THE ATTACKS ON MR BACHCHAN CERTAINLY ARE’NT.
SURPRISINGLY I CHECKED OUT YOUR BLOG…..AND GUESS WHAT MR BEGI…..THERE IS NO REFERENCE TO GANDHIJI’S BIRTHDAY THERE TOO…..SO THINK FOR YOURSELF….IF YOU CAN BLAST AB FOR NOT MENTIONING GANDHI IN HIS BLOG….THEN WHAT DO YOU SAY ABOUT YOURSELF….SURELY SUCH A GREAT GANDHI FOLLOWER LIKE YOURSELF OUGHT TO HAVE HIS BLOG DECORATED WITH THE GREAT MANS WORDS/PHOTOS/SAYINGS ETC????
LOOK AT YOURSELF BEFORE YOU CRITICISE OTHERS…..EID MUBARAK!!!

Dear Amit ji, I have been reading your thoughts since long. I agree with you after going through the editorial of ET. Yes it is too much on TV where the Channels have become self appointed judges and are even trying to mold the destiny of our nation without giving a thought on a news even for a second.Other day after the blast at Mahrauli market, within minutes a lady news reader pointing at the site map started abusing the home minister because he did not comment on the blast. That is why the print media is still a soothing effect where the writer weighs pros and cons before penning down his or her comments.
Have not seen Drona yet but the reviews disheartens. I consider Abhishek as Will Smith of India. He must watch ” Bad boys” series of Will Smith.
Dear Amit ji,
How are you? Please write and let us know your comments about Drona.
Sir, the article that you have posted is quite amazing. I saw a news yesterday where it said the Goverment has formed a forum wherein any person not liking any thing in a perticular news can complain to the forum within 7 days of broadcasting and the channel has to reply within 7 days. After which anyone can approach the forum if they are not satisfied with the answers. If the news channel are found guilty they will be fined and repeated mistakes will lead to cancellation of license. I think this is a very good way to check what all these news channels are broadcastings these days. Since its 24X7, they have to make news out of something. The real journalism is not there anymore. When the floods came in Bihar it was a news for 15 days. But today no news channel is even bothered about it. Should’nt they be updating the rest of the country about whats happening there? Instead they are going to cover the news which are of no relevence to most. I think the news media covers of celebrity. By celebrity i don’t mean only people from Film industry, but Celebrity politician, cricketers, and most beloved of all news channels celebrity Killers, rapest, mass murderers.
I think its best that we all stop watching news channel, if nothing else it will make all of us a much happier person.
love n luck

respected sir, firstly my take on drona.i thought that the film was a simple and honest take on adventure.i commend the makers on that.a film that’s different usually finds a lot of detractors.but i liked it somehow.please forward my regards to jayaji and abhisekh,i loved him in drona.take care.
Drona is very good movie.
Watch Drona.
You judge it yourself
Do not read stupid reviews
Why borrow someone elses brain when you have yours
Everyone trying to sabotage amitabh bachchan and family movies
Change is never good for anyone. Whenever there is a change people try to show their back and ignore and ridicule it.
Drona is a new change in Bollywood. That is why no one wants to accept. Drona will shake Hollywood. Indian mentality is with comparisons.
Everyone is comparing Drona with hollywood super hero movies.
But remember this is Indian Mythological Hero not a Super Hero. Watch a movie with intention of watching a movie. Don’t just go in with other movies in mind to compare with one. Don’t go in the movies looking for things to make sense. Matrix till date doesn’t make any sense. Harry Potter flying over London Bridge still makes me wonder WHAT? HOW?
Indian Jones doesn’t add up any specific time frame.
Spiderman still beats me, when he can decide to have his super powers and when he can decide to shut them.
Superman Returns beats me till date that he is hospitalised at the end:S
Krissh was copied from two adaptation ( Superman/Paycheck) Superman for backing the super hero and Paycheck for the machine created to see the future.
Watch Drona. This is Bapu speaking. Don’t go in cinema with Indian Mentality. Watch with free mind. Watch just the way we used to watch all other movies.
Kidnap is copies from Mercy. Irony.
Go watch Drona.
Dear Mr. Bachchan,
These days I depend on the comedy shows ( Jon Stewart,Colbert) for my daily dose of news.Ironically ,fake news or the parody of news seems more real to me.
I do see on my visits to India that people there still diligently subscribe to a couple of newspapers and the day is not complete without at least skimmimg thro them.Maybe the western world ,with its affluence,is more tuned to electronic media.
Best Wishes.

Hello Sir
I am afraid even I was hoping you would mention someone’s birthday.
In fact I was so sure that you would mention Gandhiji’s birthday, I was actually looking for the other birthday…sorry to speak in riddles - I mean Mr.Lal Bahadur Shastri’s - always forgotten in the hullabaloo of Gandhi Jayanthi.
A great man – small in stature but great in honesty and humility.
He was the man who coined ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisaan’ when we were at war with Pakistan and there was major food crisis.
One of his famous quotes was – ‘If one person gives up one meal in a day, some other person gets his only meal of the day’. I suppose this holds true even today in India after more than 50 years…
A man who was so against the caste system that he dropped his surname ‘Srivastava’ which pointed to his caste (higher caste), the title ‘Shastri’ (scholar) was conferred upon him after he completed his education in Varanasi and the title stuck.
Aap kripaya yeh na samjhe ki hum aapko sikhaane ki koshish kar rahe hai, bas dil ko lag gaya tho izhaar kiya…

RKaran
Hello, Amitabh Ji,
This is my first comment on your blog.Indeed you are a great personality.I always appreciate and respect your thoughts.Would you please let’s know about your views on the comment of ‘Satyendra Negi.comment no. 184′.
Mr. Ibrar, here the matter is not about your’s festivals and hindu’s festival.Mr. Satyendra has atleast bothered about this. Moreover I think a celebrity can arouse and let people move on a right path by writing about great personalities and their sacred deeds.
With regards,
Shilpi.

” Movie Review : ‘Drona’ - a superhero yet vulnerable and human
Producer: Shrishti Arya, Sunil Lulla
Director: Goldie Behl
Cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Kay Kay Menon, Priyanka Chopra
Music: Dhruv Ghanekar
Goldie Behl dares to dream. He’s back after a seven-year hiatus to let us know that “Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai” was not where his ‘khwab’ (dream) ended. As a matter of fact, the dream begins now.
“Drona” is a feeling not quite overpowering but purposely underplayed and designed to bring the till-now-barred-in-Bollywood “Lord Of The Rings” genre to our table.
On the storyboard “Drona” must have sounded outrageously ambitious. It’s a film that starts in the US, moves to the deserts of Rajasthan and makes an exit run into a never-never land where blue petals shower down on the screen creating an area of enchantment and incandescence without letting the spectacle dominate the characters.
As far as super-heroes go, the one that Abhishek plays in “Drona” is somewhat unique.
Seething, scowling, wounded and wanting, Abhishek plays a knight in a shining armour, a romantic at heart and a warrior only by force. He glides across the screen doing some of the most gently persuasive old-world stunts conceived on this side “Lord Of The Rings”.
The action often involves the leading lady Priyanka, who is quite good.
Behl with persuasive support from cinematographer Samir Arya builds a visual mindscape manifested in moving pictures that suggest a deep bond between the imagination and our traditional cultural representations of abstract art, from desert-based monuments to esoteric weapons that swirl across the breeze and kill only the evil.
First 10 minutes into this voyage to the realm of our Chandmama-Chandrakanta genre of fantasy literature, and we’re hooked. From the point when Priyanka, styled like our first full-blown Lara Croft and dressed and made up to kill (in more ways than ‘won’) enters the frame, the film takes off with an emphatic élan that just stops short of self-congratulation.
Equally arresting is the sequence where our desi dude, superhero Drona, meets the arch-villain Riz, played by Kay Kay Menon, for the first time. The chaos that breaks out and the ensuing chase across the narrow cobbled streets of an unknown foreign country (Prague?) are handled with a delightful eye for comic book bravura.
All through the telling of this tall and stately tale, Behl displays a restrain that goes a long way in giving the product the feel of a fantasy well-conceived, but never over-drawn.
The technique carries the characters fearlessly and fluently. Besides Samir Arya’s cinematography, which lends the colours of the imagination a hue of the home-grown, the art direction and the sound design suggest paces of a grace long-forgotten in our cinema where now, rapid fire storytelling is almost always equated with an entertaining cinema.
The dramatic conflict converges on Abhishek and Kay Kay Menon. The one silent, calm from outside and torn and troubled from within. The other ultra-flamboyant and theatrical, doing what can be called a reincarnation of Mogambo from “Mr India” and an indigenous version of Jack Nicholson’s Joker from “Batman”.
The theatrics that underscore the narrative’s calm surface don’t always work. Kay Kay’s character goes way over-the-top into an atmosphere of irredeemable grotesquerie.
Fine actor that he is, Kay Kay gives the flamboyant villainy his best shot.
Abhishek displays a wounded pride and a lacerated soul through his eyes. He is also immensely adept at handling the action scenes and goes many steps ahead from his earlier films to under-perform the scenes with heart-warming sincerity.
Priyanka’s styling and body language suggest a smouldering restless sensuality.
By the time we approach the climax, “Drona” has established its claim at taking a confident stab at a genre never done before. What it fails to do is to take that genre into the highest realm of creativity where the characters would have instinctively become children rather than casualties of the mythology and fantasy that Behl embraces with ample affection, but not enough of that quality of connectivity with the audience that superheroes have always achieved with the audience.
At the end you feel an empathy for the sword-wielding Drona who can’t fly through the air.
And that’s what makes this superhero so vulnerable and human.
Watch “Drona” for Abhishek’s reined-in performance as a reluctant hero, and his crackling hissing, but ambivalent chemistry with Priyanka. And for the use of special-effects not to overpower but nourish the plot that strides across two continents and cultures with confident steps. ”

Also for Rose
Good to see you back after that short break. Yes the blog looks different now like a garden minus the blossoms.
My Blog effort - the framework was ready in no time but so far not enough material to put up there (have not made much effort to do that) - so it is like an empty apartment at the moment - I have posted some photographs (mostly of my roses) with captions. I am waiting for that rare inspiration to do the rest.
Roses can be planted any time of the year, leaving out extreme hot, cold and wet conditions, if proper care is taken. Ideally new roses should be planted after the monsoons are over and it starts turning slightly cold - late September onwards till end of November. As you perhaps know Rose plants need a lot of sunshine and should be planted in open sunny spaces away from shade of any trees. They also hate water logged beds. So drainage should be proper. Give them a good dose of bone meal and organic manure at the time of planting and at regular intervals later on and you should have the pleasure to see plenty of healthy blossoms during the flowering seasons. Also make sure to remove any off shoots which come out from the root stock, below the bud union (English Hybrid Tea Roses are all budded plants - a mother root stock on to which a known variety has been budded ) from time to time.
I shall be happy to help if you have any further questions about growing roses. At one time I had over 100 different rose plants in pots, but now they have been reduced to about 30. Sadly.

Dear Mr. Bachchan,
A good thing that you posted this newspaper article - ‘doodh ka dhula koi bhi nahi hai’! Yes, television does have a greater impact because of the visibility factor but the print media too is not above reproach! In 2004, I had attempted to contact the concerned personnel at Bennett, Coleman & Co., because the content of the Pune Times had fallen despicably low…..it had transformed into a soft porn supplement to the main paper! It was disgusting and no amount of requests to their local office to look into the matter yielded any results! The correspondant, a girl called Mahajan (I forget her first name) was fired as a consequence, and it hurt me so, but better one than hundreds of innocent children who got corrupted because they were being interviewed by her day in and out about their take on sex before marriage, their preferences and choice of boy/girlfriends, etc., which compelled the kids to think on the lines, and many, it was reported later, even went on to get ‘hands on experiences’, they got so influenced. So, responsibility is the singular factor by which both media ought to govern themselves. Look at magazines like Femina, which once upon a time, was a housewife’s pride - I stopped allowing the mag in my house, when my chldren were growing up. Mercifully, it is showing signs of a change again, for the better, this time! Though a lot is still left to be desired! And coming to the last line in the above clip, about the Army Jawan, the media have judged our society to be one that goes in for cheap thrills, read TRPs, and the kind of viewership that has built up in the recent years, I wonder if they are wrong? You and me consider all this repulsive and trash, and even destructive, but there is a huge section of the viewers today, who will not appreciate serious, educative and informative content. For many, the jawan and his misdeeds are more real and they can relate to that viz-a-viz their own realities, than maybe an insight into the life of a Nobel Prize recipient or then the Nuke deal !!??!! In the end, it’s a classic case of “Set a thief to catch a thief!”
Lots of love, peace and good health to you all……….
Always,
Kashmira

” One beautiful morning I borrowed a Jeep so that I could drive to a village to visit some friends and family members, and the road I needed to take went through acres and acres of rice paddies. Since it was very early in the morning and still a little dark I parked the Jeep on the side of the road ( the width no wider than a track really) to spend a little time watching the sunset”

Sir,
Today the media in an attempt to provide scoops has only managed to scoop to a new low. The current favourite for the media is the young son of an industrialist involved in a BMW accident. Almost everything about him has been discussed and highlighted as if he is a habitual —spoilt brat. The day before this accident occurred in Delhi an overloaded truck killed several people –probably including some policemen. But nothing was shown or discussed about this more ghastly and much more serious accident. This was because those killed were poor and the driver of the killer truck was also a commener. In short neither the victims nor the driver belonged to the upper crust of society. So the media decided to totally overlook the accident and instead kept running after the BMW . Sab TRP ka khel hai……

Well observed!!!
Meant to write “Sunrise!!” I seem to have made this mistake before! And Shubash picked it up!!
And it’s “Philippines”. Named after Phillip II. A Spanish King of the late 16th century.
Thanks for pointing the mistake. I probably make these mistakes often because I always think of sunset. Embedded in the brain!

HELLO SIR,
My dearest Mr Bachchan…
Just briefly surfing the net to get an update on the “Bollywood Strike” (sorry but this is the word being used in Metro Life.
It was claiming that movie stars such as……Amitabh Bachchan, have walked out at studios in Mumbai, along with dancers, writers and technicians.
Well if this is the case then my hat off to you for supporting the strike! I was appalled to read that some workers has not been paid in 3 months and some 6 months!!!
What an appalling way to treat these workers!! I hope this problem is resolve soon. It is worrying how the family of these workers survived without pay. How on earth are they financially going to survive with the strike on???
I really hope a solution is met and accepted by all parties concern soon.

Hi Amitji,
Read the article and it is so very true. The idiot box has taken over our lives. It thinks, speaks, acts and our brains are dead. This is scary, especially when you think of todays generation and the generations to come, I fear for the future of my grand and great grand children. My 3 kids are all in college doing medicine. I gotta tell you though they watched a lotta TV when at home during school days ….they have absolutely no time for TV at college. Their few long long television watch has been the presidential and vice presidential debate, I guess there is still hope?!?!!??!?!/ What says you?????
(242) Dear Steve this for u…..
In 1984, Mr.AB took a break from acting and briefly entered politics in support of long-time family friend Rajiv Gandhi. He contested Allahabad’s Lok Sabha seat against H. N. Bahuguna, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and won by highest victory margin in general election history (68.2% of the vote) His political career….. However, was short-lived…..He resigned after three years, leaving his term incomplete. The resignation followed MrAB’s’ implication and that of his brother in the ‘Bofors scandal’ by a newspaper which he vowed to take to court, Mr.AB was eventually found not to be guilty of involvement in the ordeal.
Hello Amitji,
I am just back after watching Drona - your son’s movie. It’s a really disappointing movie. I can’t comprehend how Abhishek could have done this movie! It’s utterly boring! I feel aweful that i wasted Rs. 160/- of my hard earned money and 3 hrs. of my precious life watching it!
Please help Abhishek in choosing the right subjects for his next movies!
By the way just thought I would let you know that your blog presently has taken over my life:):):) Comment??

WHEN I READ THIS COMMENT.., I FELT SHOCKED AND MUTED FOR A WHILE.., I WAS HESITATED..WOULD I COMMENT OR JUST LET IT GO… I COULDN’T.
DAY 167i , Vikay said on Oct.3rd..;
” Please dont acknowledge that religion. Why? Because some (many) sections breed hatred for other religions. Not a good book or religion that. It is proven of course. But for reasons of your own (fan-bank shall I say) you still prefer to ignore it.”
Why Vikay…, what was for such an offence..???
is that because some of un-responsible actions of those who don’t understand the great reality of their religion which had spoiled the figure of Islam.. you simpley offend the book and the religion..??
Dear brother ( if you allow me to say that )…, i’ll give you 2 examples of Egyptian muslims who lost their lives bravely to save non-muslims’ ( but brothers in humanity ) lives …,
If you had heared about our country, we did suffer from terror actions against tourists 11 years ago, now it’s quite safe, but the memories of a great accident occured in the south are never forgotton.., terrorists had attacked a group of tourists, asked the tourist-guide to leave them and save his life.., he refused and shouted at them.. “you won’t touch them even on my dead body”, he saved 30 lives and lost his life…how.? he had just stepped in front of them.. didn’t run away, got few bullets in his chest.., the noise had been heard by the police who rushed to the place and the whole group had been rescued…!
Another accident ( has nothing to do with terrorism this time ).., a spanish group proceeding to another city in the south by coach.., a huge van crossed the road from the opposite direction hitting their bus.., a great fire occured in the engine.., the guide didn’t run away and said ” it’s not my responsibility.., i have a family i should care about.., they are not even muslims..”.., no dear, he had helped 45 tourists to get out of the bus, he had been trapped with an old lady who couldn’t descend… and the bus had been burnt, they were inside…, he didn’t make it.., lost his life to save 45’s…,
An advice from a sister in humanity.., you are free of course to take it or leave it…, don’t judge a religion by the actions of some of the followers…, that won’t be fair.
THE GREAT MAN PROVED THAT HE HAD A WISE MIND AND A GREAT HEART TO ACCEPT ALL THE BELIEVES AND TO RESPECT THEM…,
THAT’S WHY HE IS BELOVED AND RESPECTED..
Please.., try to learn something from the great Amitabh Bachchan…., wish you peace.
I LOVE UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU Amitji

Dear Amitabhji ,
first of all I would like to thank you for your great contributions to the Hindi film industry. People like Shahrukh , yourself , Abhishek ji are great role models and distinct actors for millions of audiences like me.
I have a question that I wanted to ask you about the Indian film industry and the corporations role in changing it. every new film I go to watch these days, doesnt represent the “common man” anymore. there seems to be rather material bias, also the whole “bigger than life” philosophy that usually leads the narrative. if you watch what movies touches the common man like Taare zameen par etc , and if you watch the whole skepticism, greediness that runs amok during movies , the common man despite despite plenty of fascinations seems to always thirsty for substance in todays movies. to be honest , I try to go more for plays and other cultural events rather than watching such huge degradation of our culture through movies. I am sorry if I have been over critical , but I simply want to know your opinion on this issue, as an insider.
Thanks for taking the time to interact with audience through this blog.
To whomsoever it may concern-
Name a famous actor/actress who once said- ” I have cried so many times on the death of my parents onscreen that I will find it difficult to cry when my parents actually die”.

Hello Ajay
Khuda Gawah i think.
waiting for the next quiz

Dear Amitabhji, Today I read about a lady police constable APARNA LAVAKUMAR from Ollur Station in Thissur District of Kerala.
Aparna helped a destitute who had no money to pay hospital bills of his dead wife. The pvt hospital insisted on payment of 50000/-Rs before the dead body could be taken for post mortem to a government hospital. The body lay in verandah of the hospital. The relatives had no money to pay even the reduced bill of 20000/- Aparna removed and gave her three gold bangles to the relatives to arrange the money. The government of Kerala gave 25000/- to Aparna which she donated to the children of the destitute. This was a very moving story covered in todays Indian Express.
I can say this is the same state from where we are going to soon have a christian saint sister Alphonsa ahead of mother Teresa.
Duty with compassion is what has been shown by constable Aparna. May her tribe increase in our Country.
Regards

MY BELOVED MR.BACHCHAN
How are you? Hope all is well your end. Finally found time to read your blog and WHOA!!! so many posts! Good to hear from you on different topics.
I am a bit disturbed seeing that some comments on the blog have turned sour…….yet again. But I guess in a world of democracy this is bound to happen. Some trying to make a point noticed, some commenting just out of boredom and Hurt and Insult on their minds. You mention a festival, you are accused. You forget an occasion, you are accused. The scale of expectations is always set high when it comes to you. But I say, this it itself speaks volumes for you. Great expectations from a great person!! That you are human, sometimes is often not considered. Really sad. But yes, such is life. PEACE IS A VERY VALUABLE VIRTUE THESE DAYS AND ALL WE CAN DO IS PROMISE OURSELVES THAT EACH OF US WANTS TO BE A PEACE TORCH-BEARER.
I know that you are a person who has been through these backlashes & false allegations often in your life and you possess the talent and intelligence to face every disturbance that decides to walk your path……….but tiring it can get, isn’t it? All I can wish you right now is Strength and Perseverance to continue.

It’s nice that the “Bolloywood” strike is now over. With the Indian film industry doing so well, it is a shame that technicians and junior artists are still scrambling to make ends meet. It was very nice of big stars such as SRK and yourself to support their cause. So I guess, its back to work for you. The quote you used, so apt “When you are out you want in, when you are in …”. More tonight, after reading your next post. Hope it is good (thought provoking) one!!
Dear Mr Bachchan,I read about what you did for little Mita Mondal, in the Oct.issue of SOCIETY magazine.Your good deeds will always bring God’s blessings on you and your family.Wishing your son a huge success with Drona…..he is a very good and charismatic actor and will get his due.
Subhash, I have bookmarked the web address of your new blog. Presently, at the car dealership (oil change). Hope the car is ready soon, then off to work.
Will catch up on the blog tonight and have more to post. Thank God it is Friday …

IN RESPONSE TO COMMENT 224 SHILPI…
Dear fellow blogger,
Please read what has been written before you start to assume things. Read Mr Negi’s comment then read my follow up. Hopefully second time round you will clearly see that my response was not due to any ‘festival’ but in defence of Mr B. Mr Negi clearly criticises Mr Bachchan for not mentioning the Mahatma’s name. Noone has the right to criticise anyone. Clearly Mahatama Gandhi would prefer if we keep him in the heart and follow his actions rather than dedicate a day to him.
Nevertheless Mr Negi has no right to criticise Mr B for what he says on ‘HIS’ blog or what he doesnt say. This is Amitabh Bachchanji’s domain and he has the freedom to write what and how he wills. Period!!!
ibrar hussain uk
I agree Sir. It’s ” fair, unbiased and relevant.” Moreover, I noticed that the words are not attacking and loud.
I recently watched the big B’s den . Very interesting. You were at your natural best. Was your presence intimidating for Abhishek?
take care . With the srike going on, I guess you should reward yourself with some quality time of rest and togetherness

in reply to comment 244 Pratap Singh Tomer….
PLEASE READ WHAT HAS BEEN WRITTEN BY MYSELF AND MR NEGI BEFORE YOU ASSUME THAT WE SHOULD ‘SHOW MORE RESPECT TOWARDS MR B’.
MAYBE THEN YOU WILL ‘CLEARLY’ REALISE THAT YOU HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY WRONG IN YOUR COMMENT. READ THE UNFAIR CRITICISM LEVELLED AGAINST MR BACHCHAN BY MR NEGI, THEN READ MY REPLY TO HIM.
HOW DID YOU COME TO THE ASSUMPTION THAT I DARED DISRESPECTING MR B????? YOU SERIOUSLY AMAZE ME SIR.
PLEASE JUST READ AND UNDERSTAND PROPERLY UNLESS YOU JUST WANTED TO ACT AS A ‘PEACEMAKER’ AND WROTE SOEMTHING WITHOUT ANY KNOWELEDGE OF WHAT HAD BEEN SAID PRIOR.
MR NEGI BLAMES MR B FOR NOT MENTIONING THE MAHATMA’S NAME IN THE BLOG. ALL I SAID TO HIM WAS THAT THIS IS MR B’S BLOG AND HE HAS THE RIGHT TO WRITE WHAT HE FEELS. NOONE ELSE. HOW IN HELL IS THAT SHOWING DISRESPECT FOR MR B??????????
JUST TO LET YOU KNOW IN THIS HEART OF MINE THEIR IS ONLY LOVE, PURE LOVE FOR MR B….SO PLEASE KEEP YOUR ASSUMPTIONS TO YOURSELF AS THIS IS ONE SUBJECT I WILL NEVER TAKE LIGHTLY!!!!

Of course the blog which has taken over my life has been a total win situation for me. He has made me the happiest girl in the world.
I have not looked into adopting a new cat yet. Maybe in a couple of weeks since I just made plans to be away on my next days off to Amherst Massachusetts.
My day would be lovelier if my temporary crown hadn’t fallen out of my mouth last night and my dentist had office hours today! Right now it’s on my tooth but not glued.

Repected Sir,
i think it is our lucky day three posts in a day. About the electronic media ya your veiws match with mine it surely is a thing to be afraid of in many matters this two edged sword is hurting the bearer more than saving him.
I do believe for any country nowdays it is impossible to survive or atleast live without serenity until offcourse the media is taught to live in a certain boundry. Sometimes just for their selfish gains or better said more often they cross that line of responsibility.
Specialy in cases for personality like yourself were i believe a hundred of them are actually ready to punce on every move. It must be tough to live such a life. But then that must be your dream.
Best Regards
Kavi
Respected Brother
Sadar Charan Sparsh,
I am monotonous in my addressing and wishing you in almost all my comments! You must be wondering at times, is aadami ko apane aap ko change karma kabhi Ayega bhi ya nahi! ( Whether some day this man would ever be able to change himself or not!)
Well, I like to be what I am andyes, it would never be possible to change my relationship with you ever! You are elder to me and you are my brother, I remember we used to take a pledge in school that we all Indians are brother and sisters! To which sometimes some boys used to add ek ko chhodkar! (barring one!)
Being in your company, I too have learned to put up some fun into my writing, seriously, people say I have too little humor or rather sense of humour! I do not disagree or one could say I agree to a large extent!
Here I was typing some good things in the afternoon when I missed them due to failure of the machine of some kind, this time, I would not say that God did not want me to say those things. In fact if I do not recollect some of the things it would be injustice to the two recent posts that you had sent on day 167.
Print on print and the other one on prayers and a good lot of urdu into one. I feel I must say that both these scripts were short yet very effective, you don’t need as many words as Abhaya Sharma to convey what you have to!
First thing first, I had begun with comments on prayers and picked up Rochelle for a very good point on good deeds without prayers. Here, Rochelle, I did not pick you up for the reason that brother had names you in the last episode of Big B’s Den. I found it very interesting and important point. Well, Prayers are important and the concept of belief in God or the supernatural power is not what I am going to question here or discuss.
Now, prayers or no prayers good deeds are in themselves the best act of any human being the highest prayer that one can really offer. So the question that you posed (addressing to Rochelle!) what of those who don’t indulge in prayers yet perform good deeds. The God exists within each one of us and so does the demon, sometimes the godly nature wins and yet at times the devilish instincts prevail upon us and get us into diametrically opposite acts. It is Good that English has God hidden in the Good, as if it is a God’s Order. (This one is a new point, it wasn’t there on my mind when I lost the piece!). What I wanted to emphasise is that physically indulging in prayers is not something that counts or is loved by him. It is the good acts that we perform that God loves us more! I had cited an episode from Hindu mythology to elaborate my point further.
Once upon a time saint Narad went to Lord Vishnu. Now, Narad thought that he was the biggest devotee of Lord, yet he wanted to hear it from the lord in as many words! So he asked Lord – Sir, who do you think is your biggest devotee on entire earth or all the three lokas. Vishnu said, why do you ask! Narad did not move from his stand, he said, today you must tell me who is the most dear to you! All the time imagining that soon Lord will say it is you Narad, but Vishnu did not say anything and tried to dissuade Narad from asking such a mundane question. Narad persisted and said today I will not move from here till I have the answer to my query!
Now, Lord Vishnu also lost patience, he said, OK if you insist so much I tell you that there is one farmer on a particular part of the earth that I love the most. Narad was all red-faced with rage and looked terrified, he thought he could not believe his ears! He again shot back another question on Lord Vishnu – This is too much! You can’t be so mean, you will have to give reasons for your love of the farmer, his soul still burning with intense disbelief of the unexpected answer. Come on Lord, you owe me an explanation, what is so great of that poor farmer that you love him so! I take your name day and night and always remember you in good and bad times, I thought no one could match my ways of prayers! You better decipher the logic behind your love else I will have to believe that there is something seriously wrong somewhere!
Lord Vishnu said, Narad will you do me a favour, would you just take these oil drops on your palm and come back to me after taking a complete round of the earth. Narad thought what is so great in that, he said, why not, this is a simple task. Vishnu said, Narad remember not a single drop should flow our of your palm! Narad almost thought what is so big in that! He reaffirmed him, you don’t worry, I will take care and not a single drop of oil would flow away!
So Narad went with few drops of oil on his palm, keeping a constant watch and paying all his attention on the moving drops so that nothing escaped his hand. He was indeed very cautious and was successful in taking the round of the earth without any spillage! He was appearing self confident that Lord Vishnu would now have to change his opinion of the farmer.
As he reached to Vishnu, he had a broad grin on his face and addressed him! Sire, here I come, with not a drop of oil being allowed to float away from the cups of my palm, what do you say now! Do you still say that you love that farmer!
Vishnu smiled at Narad and asked him – Narad, well done, you have done a good job but now answer my simple question - How many times did you remember me as you took the revolution of the earth with oil on your palm. Narad looked at the Lord with little helplessness and said, well, I was doing the work assigned by you so where was the need to remember or think specifically about you!
To this Lord Vishnu rose from his seat and put a hand on Narad’s shoulders – Look Narad, that farmer too is carrying out the work assigned by me and despite that he remembers me every time he leaves his home, reaches his fields and on return to home. All this while his mind is on his job and still he does not forget to thank me! Now, you see for yourself where do you fit yourself against that farmer! Narad left immediately with no more questions!
I think I am not a shrewd story teller, yet if the story has to be effective it need to be told like a story.
Before I close down, I must congratulate you brother on wonderful moments with you, your son and the daughter-in-law. Aishwarya looked comfortable, glamorous, and self-assured even though Abhishek was impressive in his own right one could easily tell who stole the limelight. She is already a bigger star. My only complain to her is about her language- she needs to be talking a bit more in Hindi. When the Hindi film stars try to evade from the language that has provided them with everything to rise to the heights they have achieved the lone Indian who had taken them to those heights feels let down as his star speaks in a language that is alien to him. If these programs are aimed at people of my calibre alone it would be understandable to make such a huge usage of English but we know Big B’s Den is going to be in the same cult as the first chapter of KBC, with a great fan following.
Brother, I hope you would do the needful to put my point across to her, it should not be taken as a negative remark it is a rather positive criticism. The reason I wrote to Abhishek in Hindi was to imbibe that love for the language for which he works. I know everyone can not have as high a command over Hindi as you possess yet there is no harm in trying to be able to communicate with the masses in the language they better understand!
Dear Aishwarya, if you have felt that I have been critical of you please excuse me, I did not mean to hurt you in anyway. Though you were second to Abhishek on this language front, you outscored him in your presentability, mannerism, and even body language. Abhishek, you do need to shrug off that slight bit of inhibition, may be it is understandable when we know that you are unfortunately always going to be compared with someone as huge a personality as that of Mr. Amiatbh Bachchan, who happens to be your father. Overall, the program comprising of three A’s was good, enjoyable and had some ( fewer than last time!) electrifying moments from the unforgettable tour. I think you guys are being too generous with all your team members when it comes to rating them, too much of positivism also sometimes becomes negative. All said and done, I enjoyed the show but would have expected to ask Abhsihek or you a couple of questions on your personal likings and on family especially of Abhishek’s knowledge of Dr. Bachchan’s achievements! It was rather sad to see that instead they were quizzed of knowledge about each other! I think brother would make amends to my observations here and next time when two of you come to Big B’s Den, he would not spare you with such questions!
Brother, I think I have overwhelmed you with too many things, I know it is difficult to read something that is too much in details. Now I mentioned nothing of print on print. Well, I would always be fond of books, not because you could take them to bed but even during traveling time. Not everyone would have a Helicopter to reach Karjat in a jiffy!
I now have the collection of some 60 compositions of great Dr. Bachchan compiled by Dr. Pushpa Bharati. Oh! I forgot to tell you that my Pushpa Mausi and Dr. Pushpa Bharati are two different persons. She (my Pushapa Mausi) was a student of my maternal grandfather and was married to some big time royal family of Rampur, they did have many properties in many places in India. It is OK. I know it does not really matter!
I am enjoying some of his works which I might have actually read earlier more than 30 years ago! I think I had great liking for the following works or atleast feel that I had read these earlier –
I have not been able to find time to do the exact translation the poetry I submitted last time (1st october), I think I did explain almost the essence of it in the gist ( The poem was written by Dr. Bachchan on 10th birthday of Amitab Bachchan, interestingly Amrit would be celebrating his 10th birthday in another months time or so!)
It has been quite late in the night and I have to get to go and hit the bed in sometime so my best wishes to all of you and thanks to Amitabh, Aishwarya and Abhishek (the three Aces) of Bachchans clan for wonderful time. I hope 11th Octobers’s Mega concert would be viewed by large numbers. The time is 8.30 PM, I assume, we would all get to see what was so unforgettable on the tour, the crowds did appear to be huge, Rochelle may be able to throw more light on that!
Love unabated for all the three A’s of B’s

Sir,
I’m a very big fan of abhishek and you ofcourse..but when i watched the recent movie of abhishek i was in shock…it wasn’t the kind of cinema he should be doing..he should focus more on better scripts and the intensity of the role offered..there is no doubt that he is one of the best & finest performer and an actor but he should now become choosy about his roles & the character that he is going to potray…when i see that his or yours movie doesn’t do well i feel pain and want him to reach a place where world can see him & tell him that his dad is Amitah Bachchan
To Deepti..,
thank you dear for the clarification about the delicious dish, actually i reside in cairo, but because of my job i use to travel all over Egypt..twice , may be 3 times a month…, we celebrate the feast 3 days…, the 1st. & the 3rd ( today ), i was taking my fellow guide’s place as he had an emergency…, yesterday was a day off.., all the family gathered in my grand parents house.., that’s where i live ( since father passed away , i’d been brought in my grand parents house ), it was a good chance to meet them all as i’m always busy travelling here and there…, it was a fun to catch up with them.., but there was a lot of anxities in the heart that’s why i was a little bit ( not really with them )..,
i was just watching ( India questions Abhishek Bachchan ) on NDTV…, god… he is really nice guy.., i always think he has his mother’s eyes.., but he has his father’s way of looking and speaking…, wish him the best of luck for his father’s sake…, well dear.., waiting for tonight’s post.., sweet dreams honey.
Hi Subhash!
I did visit your blog site. Well maintained and informative. You are fond of flowers was quite visible besides your very apt quotes! I will need to revisit and join you there some day! It does have a differnet and sometimes a better utility than the website! Look that is a comment form a webmaster!
Folks! flowers are the best things that nature could provide us they teach us to smile and put us into an appreciative mood almost immediately! Am I right on this Subhash!
It is really getiing late must leave the PC alone!

Such disparity! We are getting fooled by media, and we are letting them do it! Media today are like the people in ancient times that told people Earth was flat and the sun and other planets revolved around the earth! ‘How ridiculous!’, we would say today. That is what is happening with media today. A myth is sold to us every day, every minute of our lives. Are we ready to believe it?

Roses
I developed a huge love affair with roses when I was in college - I did study them in some detail, read some good books, spent time at the famous Rose Garden in Chandigarh trying to identify various varieties by their names, flowering habits etc. It was a dream project of mine to grow roses for export to Europe. But there was no infrastructure worth the name and no government help of any sort. You need an express system to ship them under refrigerated conditions so that the time gap between cutting and reaching the destination is minimum - otherwise they would most certainly perish in transit. So I had to drop that dream project in view of non- existent infrastructure and other systems needed to handle such perishable good in the expert way.
Here the nurseries rarely sell rose plants by names. People mostly choose plants by looks, hues and fragrance. Most of the Roses I have are Hybrid Teas. I do not have a piece of land to grow them so I have to be content with growing them in pots. I had built up a collection of over hundred different ones which due to neglect during my long absence (away to the UK or USA), dwindled down to barely 30 or so now. Still it is always a pleasure to watch and nurture them as they come to bloom every season.

Thanks for taking interest and the words of appreciation.
I would need to make some effort to put on a few things there that I have in mind, in due course of time. As Mr. Bachchan says so often about himself, I too am an illiterate in the world of Computers, Internet and Software. There is always so much to learn at every age in life. But It is never too late.
Science and technology are galloping ahead at such break-neck speed that it is indeed tough to keep pace with them.

Dearest Amitabhji,
How are you today as we do actually celebrate Gandhi Jayanti from the outside but deep within us there are many who are still far away from the truth.
We had a good holiday to remember Great Mahatma Gandhiji.
Let us ask our conscience ,Are we following his teachings today?
You are the best

How are the Eid celebrations and festivities been / going on?
Hope you are having a great time.

Dear Mr B,
We have discussed the role of the TV in todays time too often.
Like one of the supreme court judges declared “Even God can’t save India.” The same can be said for the electronic media. It is high time they too are held responsible for their actions. If they can have censor board for the Film Industry don’t you think it is also necessary for the serials and News channels too?

I wish to share with you a thought:
At many place i have read that successful people donot write poems . I donot know what does it mean to say.
Another thought:
Can you form one trust and be the truste where all the poets can become member and you can really promote a true poetry either by sponsoring an even or in many other way.
Few days back I read in the news paper wherein Aayyatalaa Khomeni requested poets to write the poems which can inspire and be beneficial for the whole human kind in one or the other ways.
I consider Madhushalla and Madhuballa as Gita and Kuran when they really have helped me in my life to face the life itself.
Hindi poem written on 4/10 by me
Har Badan ke EK Khushaboo Hoti hai
Har Vatan ke ek ruh hoti hai
har rishte ke ek aabaru hoti hai

BLOG IS DOWN…..cannot see day 168.
Surely someone is looking into this.
why only bed rooms? it is taken to toilets also. i read pages 1, 2 & 3 in living room but really enjoy reading editorial sitting on commode. television these days is all about t.r.ps. only. be it television or news paper, excess of any thing is really bad. my complaint is that my wife watches too much reality shows n serials while her is that i take time in toilet because of paper.

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement and the most valuable suggestions (on and about the other blog). I had just started this exercise for fun never realizing it could be such a responsible and tough job, to say something worth while. I know there would be immense scope for improvement to make it better and more attractive. Your suggestions would certainly come in handy towards that.
Meanwhile you could have a look at # 141 & 234 day 169 and take necessary precautions.

How is that what you have said yesterday and today is exactly the way I feel about these two subjects - brides / wives and children? Is it something which is felt universally by all in that very way (in that case there would be no bride burning, no divorces, forced child labor or child abuse) or there is some other reason or connection (telepathy?) ?

i have been going through your blog very often and always wished to tell you about someone you would surely wish to contact at some point of time in your life .I feel this all the more strongly when I read your soul searching experiences and your strong filial affection for your parents still reminding you of the days that are no more and yet at the same time keeping pace with the present and not letting these moments slip . I have a friend Dr Rama who had been a budding writer then and your father had encouraged her to at every step, almost like a daughter your father had maintained a regular contact through letters. She is a scholar in Hindi and has preserved all the treasure of of his poems and letters with her including a photograph of your marriage sent to her by Hairivansh ji .I have also asked her to contact you since you both have something in common …the timeless memories of your father…..!!
Dear Sir,
Yesterday at my home we were generally appreciating you and Jaya Ma’m at my home and praising the performances you and Jaya Ma’m have given so far in Indian movies…………all Classy and Great……….I also find your son Abhishek Bachchan very talented and he has done some great work in Yuva, BluffMaster, Guru, laga chunri ,mein daag, Sarkar …………..and he is definitely talented……………I just hope he gets the right director to tap his potential and talent. Sometimes I feel his friends who are his directors are trying hard but they have to work a lot more harder in the direction part .
Also, Abhisheik will carry your legacy with more added glamour if he has his own Individual stamp.
Hoping to see some wonderful movies from Bachchan clan.
A week back I was moved by a movie from you Kala Pathar………..and it is a very modern movie relevant for now also.
sir

Hello Sir

Sir, The news paper and TV cannot be really compared to each other. The news in the TV is covered live at times and news paper covers after a few hours atleast. The TV reporting is helpful immidiately when a tragedy occurs. News papers reporting appears more of a consolidation of facts and has chance to reconfirm many aspects.
News papers are very informative and TV coverage runs against time. TV coverage has breaks during vital reporting and at times the sensitivity of the issue is not considered. Like TV reporters speaking to blood relatins of people who have to still come to terms with the tragedy.
The editorial page of a news paper is an intellectual feast. Well analysed editorials become path setters for policy makers in the long run. Nodoubt TV news channels have special reports but seldom carry permanency of record for the listners. Good pages from news papers can be bound as reference material. This does not have a parallel in TV.
Anyway both mediums have their plus and minus points but can be equally augmented for good reporting of events. May be TV news analysis through news papers subsiquently can help review Tv reporting.
It may be futile to put one against the other because both have strong roles to play for constructive work. The mannerism of TV reporting needs lot of maturity as against present young generation panting for breath in runup to the news.
May we see more of restraint and sensitivity and less of commercial considerations.

Dear Mr. Bachchan:
You wrote:
“There is I observe a great amount of such discussion and debate in the print media. I find it fair and unbiased and relevant. And I find it necessary to talk about, because I find its relevance in today’s society of great importance. We are being bludgeoned with an excess that can prove deconstructive. It needs correction, that is obvious, but it needs to be feared !!”
Look! The word is not deconstruction!!!!
Deconstruction is a literary device and a very technical term!!!!!
I think what you mean is ‘not constructive’…though even that in the context in which you use it, it is incorrect!
Oh and since you seem to be such a Francophile, you may be interested to know that it was a Frenchman who came up with the technique of ‘deconstruction’…but then of course you would not be interested in all that would you!!!???!!!
All the best!
The electronic media - I do not have access to this elecronic/technical gadgets at home now but I will survive.

Hello, Mr. Amitabh..
Leaving the subject BPT(physiotherapy) from being selected in Hamdard and Amity like universities, Creativity and expression of my thoughts was the reason of me choosing Media as a lifetime career. Being an aspiring journalist, I too agree with the article given above that we are being bludgeoned to an excess that is proving deconstructive to the mass audience.
Media is the only powerful part of country’s administration on which depends the people, goverment and future of the country. It is only the medium through with people and goverment reacts and we get to know the current condition arround. Being such responsible part, it should know how to first mould up the mediating agents involved in them. If the mediator’s are presenting the messages wrongly through Television-internets or newspapers, then what will happen to the gen-next who learn from them. And, I think Television to much extent is responsible for such a vibrant change in creating such shaking circumstances among the country people. Print media is the most comfortable form of getting news in to the minds. So, instead of more commercialisation it should try to introduce really interesting material into it.
And lastly, one more thing to add. Today people should try to make an effort of getting together to change the scenario by comaradeships.
All the best to all and to you Mr. Amitabh

Dear Sir, The News paper is a medium of News in existence for a very long time. Therefore it’s formats are well set. TV reporting is a new phenomenon therefore it is still in it’s formative years if not incubency. Imagine one fine morning the news-paper vendor does not drop your favourite news paper and instead leaves a newly launched paper? What is our first reaction and the lack of trust on the vendor. If he persists such tactics he is warned by us.
Incase of News channels we don’t have such deep loyalty. We change moment we feel this news is too much or we had enough of it. In the hype the channel creates to get to our attention we change.
I think lot of research is still needed to measureup TV news to the news paper coverage. Many times a sensationalised TV coverage finds a small mention in some corner in a news paper. I think TV news should have it’s corrosponding replica in news papers. I think more people from news paper have to be associated with TV coverage. Atleast training of both should be a must for a reporter.
The knowledge pool of news papers has to have a parallel in TV. The risk involved to life and limbs in TV coverage is definitely much more. Some times the reporters have to brave bullets. So a TV portfolio may be more challenging and risky too.
TV reporters are at times seen chasing people for a comment which doesnot dignify their position. This is not a good sight. Hopefully a better platform will be created in future to overcome this.
Sincerely
Ravi P Malhotra
Dear Amitji, you put up the writeup in this blog as it is but never commented yourself what is your opinion about the role of print media vis-a-vis Electronic media. What is the extent of reach of both and how do you react to the comparison drawn above.
Surely if print media takes up a cause then some day electronic media won’t lag behind. How about adherence to the code of conduct of both. When our leaders make irresponsible statements then what happens if it is covered extensibly by TV. The flareup of situations when TV coverage gives first hand account. Are we so much matured to not to get carried away momentarily.
There have been virtual media trials and debates even before an issue is filed in the court. What about the violation of rights of accused even before they get a counsel. An opinion far reaching life span of accused even before pronounced guilty is created. Somewhere the battle for natural justice is lost. Even if the person is not guilty ultimately a stigma remains.
There are many sensitive issues which cannot be ignored. A haealthy coverage with balanced reporting is surely going to help establish credibility of coverages.
It will be worth seeing in the longrun how adaptable the coverages by both media augment each other.

Medias share fears, sometime gossips, and pecular points of view, the price to pay to be aware, it’s to compose with, nastyness, mistakes, and chaeting.
On print papers, I’ve got so much I’ve never read, when I do, cause it’s in the use, I’m often disappointed by the opinion of the journalist, sometime openly crual, that put me ill at ease, but I have too to considere information, not only sadistic and wrong people have to benefit on news, deosn’t it. I like print paper in the sens that give a real memory, cause of interest, cause of money, cause of having.

Hello. This comment is w.r.t. your blog-post dated Oct 2, 08 wherein you have included a snap of The Economic Times and written ‘On print media taking on the electronic’.
Consider this: I have read Jeffrey Archer’s, Dan Brown’s novels on my laptop. I don’t need the newspaper, in fact, I detest it. It is much better to read online so you can bookmark pages, follow links immediately, instantly research a developing story in depth and see it from various perspectives. I think a day will and should come when the internet media prevails over the print media. Count the number of trees that will be saved.

If you do want here are those qs. answer of thich will fetch no rewards but respect from end.
Q.1 Is it right to have one’s highest self image within oneself in order to hit that place,
Have you had it ever, since you have reached that place ?
Q.2 Have you ever visualised yourself to be a multy-millioeer when you had nothing to loose ?
Q3. In order to turn the table what should one have in mind, I mean to take u turn from poverty to richness what one should have in one’s mind.
I have many more questions to ask if I get positive answers from you on my email address.
