I cannot remember it happening to me in recent times, nor in times past – an audience applause in the middle of my film, at the end of a scene or dialogue. But it happened tonight at the premier of RANN. A thunderous and prolonged applause at the end of a scene that I perform towards the end of the film, moved me to tears. And then when the lights came on the excited acknowledgement from an entire multiplex ( not like the one in the Mall at Bangalore ), the emotions kept becoming deeper and stronger…
The varied and different kind of cinema that we are all used to may perhaps never give occasion to a moment of genuine applause at the end of a given performance, but when it happens we accept it and allow the world to pass by. Perhaps it is not our culture or our ethics.
My head slouches down over the computer and sleep is taking such a vast toll on my being that I shall have to come back to you in some hours ..
love and more..
Amitabh Bachchan

Good Evening Mr. Bachchan,
Congratulation for the Rann. Everyone is coming up with Four Stars ****, Taran Adarsh, Subash K Jha, Times of India and all.
I was not here for some dayz. Now i m back to wish u the best for THE Rann. Now i am going to read the post. Rann will Rock…! Ohhh Its already rocking.
Reviews:
Subash K Jha:
****
Rann defines the role of the electronic media in today’s context with remarkable virility and dramatic force.
This is Ram Gopal Varma’s best work since Company.
Taran Adarsh:
****
On the whole, RANN is truly a well-made film. No two opinions on that. The film should be patronised by viewers of serious, sensible cinema. Recommended!
Times Of India:
****
It’s gritty. It’s grey. And it’s greatly topical too. Ram Gopal Varma returns to his let’s-dissect-the-real-world brand
of cinema with the racy-pacy Rann that might run on predictable lines.
Dont Dont Dont Foget to watch one more mindblowing perfomance by our Mr. Bachchan. Its 4 Star by all the Critics

Amitji,
Please tell us more about the Premier when you’d had the chance to rest a bit. Very interested to hear the details, the way you describe it…
Dear Amitji,
As I wrote last , the response of Public is the final verdict, rather than those magazine reviewers, who are at times biased by “reasons unknown”. So, congrats to you and to the team of “Rann”. Shall watch it soon.
love and more……

Dear uncle,
Hope you are in the best of your spirits…..
First of all congratulations for all the awards that PAA has taken at the very beginning of this year. And I am sure there are many more to come by the way Mr.Bachchan……
And yes,it was really pleasurable to hear your say on Geo and star tv channels about the peace initiative ‘Aman ki asha’.
Saw you on Star news recently where you had gone for the promotion of Rann.I just couldn’t take my eyes off you for even a second. You look so charming and graceful,I don’t have words to express what it felt like seeing you…..
Now,I have one request. Please read my letter which was about you,in Khaleej times(Dec 9).But due to some technical problems with the site I cant get you to the link now.But please you will have to assure me you would read it when I get the link.It will only take two minutes off your busy schedule.I am trying from the same date to get your attention to it but couldn’t.And last time when I got your reply, there was no link in my comment
Take care uncle
Good night
Sweet dreams
Love….you…..a……..lot……..
i was 1 of them who did it SIR.amazing the movie was.

Congratulations on that thunderous applause and that fantastic reception at the premiere. I am so happy for you!
I assume it was at the end of that 13 minute speech which you filmed in one take, leading to the applause of the crew if I remember correctly.
Please get all the rest you need before you come back. It is less than 24 hours until I get to see RANN where I’m sure I will want to tire myself out from applauding you and the film.
Sleep well with many pleasant dreams.
Love,
Rochelle
Dear Amitji,

P.S hello to Amitabh zibbuji, Neha shrivastav and my sweet Zainab…
Amit ji,
CAN’T WAIT TO SEE “RANN”, IT MUST HAVE BEEN SOME INCREDIBLE ACTING TO DESERVE AN APPLAUSE, BUT THEN THAT IS NOTHING NEW, YOU ARE WORTH EVERY APPLAUSE YOU GET, I CAN NEVER IMAGINE INDIA CINEMA WITHOUT YOU!
HOPE WE CONTINUE SEEING YOUON THE SILVER SCREEN FOR A LONG TIME TO COME.
(YELLOW LINE PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
ENJOY YOUR SLEEP
LOTS OF LOVE (as always)
YOUR NO.1 FAN FROM UK
Adarniya Shri Amitabh Bachchanji,
Do not like to repeat myself, but am not sure if you have received my message or not. So, repeating the same again, the last time.
Just wanted to share some good news. My wife delivered a baby girl on the 13th of January at about 2:34pm, our 1st child. We have named her ‘DHRITI’ which means patience (something that we need a lot right now during the initial days). Both of them are doing fine. I hope to seek your blessings and best wishes for my daughter.
———————————————
As for ‘RANN’, promos look quite promising, the star cast seems apt based on the story line; and based on your final word in the blog today, looks like its going to be another ‘Super Duper Hit’ film in your already overloaded kitty… So, once again Good Luck and Congratulations in advance for the same. Is the climax shot the one where you have the camera-man glued to his seat for a good 13min??? Hope you can catch up on some sleep. Sleep Well and Keep Good Health…
—-Aavjo
PS: sorry to the FmXT members for the repetition of my msg.
Sri Amitabh Bachchan,
Thank you for a great post yesterday. Throughly enjoyed it.
Such moments must have happened. Dewaar and Agneepath are the two frontrunners for such applause and praise of fine performances. Both films are memorable. The scene in the Temple in Dewaar, the entrance into the restuarant and many more in Agneepath.
God Bless you with many more scenes, less the applause. Keep your modesty intact.
Love always,
Manish Parmar, UK.

Hope you sleep long and well, and that the thunderous applause echoes sweetly in your dreams tonight. Congratulations! I can hardly wait for 3 pm tomorrow, when Rann opens in Austin!

Great News!!..big brother!!
Great news, Rann will Rock !! great reviews from Jha and Azmi and Taran so far !
Dearest most splendiferous Mr Bachchan
Truly overjoyed at the tumultuous applause for your speech in RANN… and the fantastic swell of appreciation for the film.
I am so happy you are now adopting the hugely well deserved posture… weary head resting blissfully on pillow… the fantabulous applause surely still resounding in your ears.. and warming your heart.. as you drift into beautiful dreams.
Meanwhile… I have been thinking about RANN all day… in utter delight at RANN’s overwhelmingly rapturous reception by the press in Mumbai yesterday (how long ago that must already feel…)
But filled with utter indignation at the female from the ‘media glitterati’ who had the audacity to shun your invitation to RANN because the film supposedly shows the media in a bad light.
Well this shows HER in an extremely poor light, to prejudge a film before she’s even seen it.
And even if the film DID turn out to be ‘negative’ about the media… does she REALLY think the media are above critical analysis of any kind?? That they are SO perfect that nothing negative can possibly be said? (cue hysterical hyena howls).
Especially when the media themselves positively embrace the ‘negative’ when dishing the dirt on others. To reverse that classic song lyric… the media like to accentuate the negative and eliminate the positive.
So how could they possibly complain if a film dared to points out a few minus points in the media’s ‘school report’.
I was always taught that one of a journalist’s greatest strengths was their curiosity…. a spirit of honest enquiry. Maybe she would have found something of interest and enlightenment in the film, gained a new insight into her industry. How sad that she has such a closed and narrow mind.
“The mind is like a parachute… it only works when it is open.”
Anyhow, she undoubtedly missed a media sensation tonight… by ANYONE’S standards… and victory, beloved Mr Bachchan, is yours, yet again…
With all my love, Daisy
I am so so happy for the reaction of the audience… you had touched their hearts with your incredibly brilliant performance.. their reaction is honest and true… how sensitive you are my dearest dear… i can imagine how moved you are with such an acknowledgement… you deserve it and more.. there is no one like you .. no one.
I am profoundly thankful to you that you had posted while you are so sleepy.. thank you for such a marvelous commitment to your FmXts.. thankful and grateful.. can’t find the words to describe how much this daily communication means to me..
Watching Deewaar right now.. you are just mind blowing… family is watching a soccer game .. Egypt Vs Algeria in Africa cup.. games are held in Angola.. we won 4-0.. that is awesome.. Doctor had just left after seeing my tests.. he told me that i am diabetic, my BP is 190/120.. and changed the whole medication.. begging me to take them in time.. how boring.. !!!
I leave you now my dearest one.. Vijay is just awesome.. people are happy outside because of the game result.. and i am happy being with you..
Lots of love and much. much..much more.
Dear Amitabhji,
It’s strange writing to you like this, like I know you and thanks to your blog I fell that I kind of do. I look forward to reading your thoughts on my mobile before I go to sleep. It’s become a habit now, cleaning teeth, tucking into my sheets and reading your blog to see what’s going on in your mind and your world. Due to some stressful situations recently I’ve been looking for some inspiration and I ordered a movie of yours. I’ve been watching it for the last few nights. Themes of fate, money, class, luck, destiny etc. Purely inspiring. I’m referring to ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’ and especially that song, ‘rote hue ate hai sab.’ It’s one of my all time favourites along with ‘apni to jaise taise.’ I’d love to hear back from you, especially on your thoughts on how you get by in trying times.
Love Tab Khan, Nottingham, UK
Sri Amitabh Bachchan,
The writer of the dialogue also deserves credit here. As in Agneepath, Kadar Khan wrote the dialogues. Beautiful and poetic. Very artistically and made specifically for you.
Only you are able to carry out the delivery in a dramatic sense as shown in Dewaar and Agneepath. Only you are able to demostrate the power of your screen presence. Only you are able to carry it through, convincingly.
Love always,
Manish Parmar, UK.
post script — My sincere regards, love and wishes to all my friends here, esp Lakshmi Jag.
Hi Amitji,
Congratulations for RANN, I read the review and the journalists are of high praise for the movie. Cudos to you all.

Mrs G. A. Patel – so sorry not to thank you before. YES, I am one of crazy cat ladies (my words not yours) and I loved the kitty videos on skynews.com you recommended. The one where one naughty cat pounces on another reminds me so much of my two friskies!

Dear Amitji,

Dear Amitji,
Overjoyed and overwhelmed on reading the post on the applause for your speech in concluding reel of Rann. You may have forgotten such applause in the past for your performance, but we, the fans and your extended family, will always remember the standing ovation the audience gave you repeatedly in the past and more recently for Baghbaan and Black.
With best wishes

Hi there,
I cant wait to see RANN!! I’ve read some reviews of the movie and of course they all praise your acting, especially your monologue. I hope the film is a huge success! Also, I cant believe you are going to be on Dance India Dance. My best friend actually knows one of the contestants and I’M SOO JEALOUS THAT SHE’S GONNA GET TO MEET YOU! You seem to be doing a lot of TV recently, what with Bigg Boss, Bingo, Lift Karade, and now this! I really wish I could come to Mumbai and get on that Lift Karade Show! But unfortunately my parents would never let me lol, especially since school started yesterday!!
Anyways, I want to share the group that I started called “HELP MEHVEEN MEET AMITABH”, which about 250 people have joined urging you to meet me!! I figured that I have loved you for 5 years out of my 20 years of existence and I need to take measures to meet you and I hope this will do the trick! I am going to post this group (hopefuly as it grows larger and larger) everyday on your blog until you somehow contact me, either via email, webcam, phone, so we can arrange to meet!
So here is the link, I hope you’ll take 2 minutes out of your busy day to look at it!
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=174943739550&ref=ts
I wholeheartedly wish with every fiber of my being that I could meet you. I keep watching interviews with you on bollywood hungama, cnn-ibn, etc. and I can barely stop myself from buying a ticket to Mumbai and camping outside of your house.
I really want to know how you stand being so damn gorgeous. I mean do you know how gorgeous you are? I hope one day that I can see you in person because I know someone who saw you in real life and she said you look better in person and that just flabbergasts me. I mean if you are so gorgeous on screen, then people who see you in person are probably blinded by your gorgeousness! I was watching this video of you from a show you did in Toronto in 1982, it was just mindblowing. You were performing Mere Angne Mein and women were just fawning all over you! I wish I was older or even born then so I could have gone to that show because, my god, you were just stunning!
Ok well I hope you click on the link and make my dream come true!!
Hope I get a response!
Lots and Lots of love,
Mehveen

ps. I love you and like I said you are simply gorgeous!

“There is no man,” he began, “however wise, who has not at some period of his youth said things, or lived in a way the consciousness of which is so unpleasant to him in later life that he would gladly, if he could, expunge it from his memory. And yet he ought not entirely to regret it, because he cannot be certain that he has indeed become a wise man—so far as it is possible for any of us to be wise—unless he has passed through all the fatuous or unwholesome incarnations by which that ultimate stage must be preceded. I know that there are young fellows, the sons and grandsons of famous men, whose masters have instilled into them nobility of mind and moral refinement in their schooldays. They have, perhaps, when they look back upon their past lives, nothing to retract; they can, if they choose, publish a signed account of everything they have ever said or done; but they are poor creatures, feeble descendants of doctrinaires, and their wisdom is negative and sterile. We are not provided with wisdom, we must discover it for ourselves, after a journey through the wilderness which no one else can take for us, an effort which no one can spare us, for our wisdom is the point of view from which we come at last to regard the world. The lives that you admire, the attitudes that seem noble to you are not the result of training at home, by a father, or by masters at school, they have sprung from beginnings of a very different order, by reaction from the influence of everything evil or commonplace that prevailed round about them. They represent a struggle and a victory. I can see that the picture of what we once were, in early youth, may not be recognisable and cannot, certainly, be pleasing to contemplate in later life. But we must not deny the truth of it, for it is evidence that we have really lived, that it is in accordance with the laws of life and of the mind that we have, from the common elements of life, of the life of studios, of artistic groups—assuming that one is a painter—extracted something that goes beyond them.”

dear sir,
this is the first time i m writing something 2 u.if i say that i m a big fan of u then it would be a small thing 4 u coz u have alot.
but sir,i really want to share something with u..
i m an engineering student.
i m from a middle class family.
i remember when i was in class 4th i use to watch ur movies on DD national on fridays n saturdays night coz at that time there is no cable connection in our city.
my father was very strict those days n not allow me to watch late night movies.
but if that was a Amitabh’s movie…he also use to give company 2 me…
In my syllabus in std 6 there was a poem “jo bit gaya so baat gai”n some more written by Late Mr. haribansh rai bachchan..
i love to remember all that…
I have got a copy of madhushala from my dadaji’s belongings after his death..
the cost printed on that is only 75 paisa…i still have that book…
these days,my frns in college knows that i like ur everything n so they always arise the question that why amitabh is so good..
they have their own choices…so…they defend their owns n i defend Amitabh bachchan…n after some time,it becomes so huge n looks like a group discussion…
n sir by heart…i have never loose…coz i have only positive n not a single negative point…
i hope u r nt bored…
at last i only wanna say that carry on sir…
hum sab ki dua aur bhagwan k aashirvad hamesha aapke saath rahega…
n one promice-from today i will always give my comments to u…
with great regards…

Nandita
Halleluiah!!! There is power in praise.
What we give out in life can come back to us and equally, we all need and value receiving positive feedback and praise when and where it is warranted and deserved. The challenge of a genuine applause is that it requires sincerity, spontaneity in recognition, thoughtful attention and perspective to that special effort which causes the recipient to whisper to himself …Wow!
I am always listening for the very last reverberations – whether the music is extremely quiet, or thundering. For me, the entire reason for listening and appreciating – especially if the performance is breathtaking – is that breath I release after a superlative spectacle. Your performance in each film is a promise of outstanding experience. You let the beauty of the moment cascade over the audience creating a symphony that ends with quiet contemplation.
A movie lives by its content. Nothing will keep audiences away from an essentially good movie. For sure, the applause for your performance in Rann has made it clear that the audience were demanding an encore. I sincerely hope that “Rann” will be able to translate all the buzz to box office success!
Before you venture away, please assure me that you are giving yourself the required rest and sleep – and may you find comfort in knowing that that you are enclosed by caring thoughts and prayer and heartfelt wishes.
Much Love and best wishes for the mega release
it just increases my enthusiasm to see RANN

Dear Mr. Bachchan,
My applause to you in the middle of night…I hope
I did not wake you up ! If I did, please take those
like my admiration and respect for your work !
You are great !
My love always,

(I never know how to address you – sir seems so formal, name with ji – feels somehow disrespectful, uncle, baba, papa – too presumptious – so that part where I address you is always blank)
Its heart rending that you inspite of being so exhausted to the point of dropping dead, you rushed to include us your FmXt, in your joy of receiving such thuderous adulation. I feel proud to be at the receiving end -however insignificant I may be- of your such a generous show of affection.
Thank you for your love and allowing us to be a part of your life and joys. We live vicariously through your words, your life.
Waiting gleefully for the next installment of the naration of your day
Wishing you peaceful rests and a dawn of unending praises and adoration.

Dear Amitabh,
I’m a huge admirer of yours and a huge music fanatic. I am currently 19 years old and a huge fan of Hindi music. I have been waiting since I was 6 years old to hear the songs from Gayak (1996) that Big B cassetes had the rights to.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMaYpHrgZ9o a youtube petition
Please Big B, it is my dream to hear these songs in full and I have been praying/hoping for over 13 years for these songs and with no such luck or info!
Please Please listen to my plea and somehow get these songs to my heart just like your movies have filled a huge void in my life with gems like KKKG and Black. Itunes, youtube, online radio, tapes whichever format but please I can’t stand the wait. =[
my email is ishqvishk@gmail.com
Please don’t ignore this! =[=[ Amazing songs like that should not be hidden away in a music back. In this day and age with itunes, you can still make money off unreleased stuff. Especially when it’s this good. Please amitabh oh my god.
Your one of the most powerful figures in bollywood, only you can make it happen . PLEASE please please pleasee
I BEG OF YOU. PLEASSSSSSSE

Hi Amit

with your performance and your looks.
Can you tell us what RANN is about?weel freind take care
Best regards.SHANE
Congratulations. You have worked very hard on this film, and you jolly well deserve the standing ovation from the audience. I was watching the making of RANN and somewhere along the MR.R.G.V. said that one of your dialogue, about 10min. long you gave it in one shot, which is a great achievement and only YOU can do that Sir, a perfectionist. Well done, and hope and pray, many many more on your way. Pranams. Looking forward to seeing it sooooooon.

That is always a ” good say “for everyone.
We are with you and would miss you not being here. Whatever your Dear Mother’s saying you have remembered and practiced is the right way. Do not get upset, about anything. I have always loved reading your comments and you are one of the leading members of this BIG family. Stick to the ground with your roots deep down. No one can move you, love and Pranams.
I said this to you once before…I think this post calls for me to say it again! The spelling of the word box-office needs to be changed to ‘BACHS-OFFICE’!!!
Looks like you are going to own them ALL again! Good for you!

Dear Mr. AB,
In German we have a saying “Vorfreude ist die beste Freude”, meaning anticipation is the best part of joy.
Thank you for giving us the anticipation and thank you for giving us the joy!

Dearest Amit ji,

Dear Amitji,
I really, really, really hope that Rann does very well as it deserves to. Hope you have lots more superhits in the future!

Another great news and seems like you had a great reception at RANN premier as well. Glad there was no “rann” in media thereafter!
I am not a fan of mushy and teary eyed stff so I either yawn or laugh during such movies and KJo’s movies so far come into that category. Rest kind of cinema from RGV, AK, Balki or VB is most different and hence interesting. I am glad variety is becoming the spice of Indian movie market and there are more filmmakers today than ever that can offer this special indian spice.
When you are acting in such films, it’s a pure treat to eyes and ears.
Hope to see you more in 2010. Thanks for keeping in touch.

For the humble, modest you to say this says a lot. I assume you are referring to that long speech and receiving appluase from the crew during shooting. Now I just can not wait to see you in action in the film. Congratulations on this rapturous appluase from the Delhi audience. Hope you get a good rest and sleep.

My Dear Mr Bachchan

My dearest dear Mr. Bachchan,
Many many congratulations on the thunderous and enormous response to your achievement and your brilliant performance in RANN.
It is indeed an overwhelming moment to you when you see this great acknowledgment and success of your hard work and your accomplishments.
Iam so happy for you and I hope for RANN to reach highest ranks of success and praise.
Today iam so happy and delighted for two reasons. Egypt national team has won over Algeria 4 :0 playing for the semi finals in the African world Cup. It was a thrilling, and exhilarating match, and we were watching with anxiety but with enjoyment as well because Egyptian players showed brilliant, skillful and professional performance. Let me stick to boundaries and not to go in unwanted details on ‘our’ blog, but enough to tell you that I have witnessed for the first time poetic justice at its best image in real life… and not in fiction.
Egypt is celebrating today till the early hours of the next morning…and it gives fantastic and overwhelming feelings to hear from my home the sounds of thousands in the streets singing and celebrating and fire crackers everywhere…it almost moved me to tears.
Needless to say that reading of your success from you and the huge response to your movie today makes the second reason for my happy day…and im eagerly looking forward to it.
Enjoy a peaceful and pleasant sleep…
And let’s meet tomorrow..
फिर मिलेंगे..
xx

Dear Amitji,
Congratulations and many, many more for your film RANN! It must have been that brilliant 13/14 minute dialogue you delivered that took the audience’s breath away! I’m so happy for you.
Longing to see the film very much but have a long wait, its only showing in the big cities. Still, it will be worth waiting for.
Please sleep happily and sweet dreams, dear friend.
With love & affection,
Brenda
Dear Big B,
Are you a human being? yes,I am serious,I have my doubts.
Love
Rajeev.
Dear Amitji,
Rochelle was right in pointing out that you received a standing ovation during the shoot itself and therefore no wonder you got one when the effort was seen on edited, sound mixed celluloid. Congratulations on that
Long dialogues were a quick reminder that the cinema’s origin is from the theatre. Great scenes from yesteryears are still remembered for them, especially historicals. Sivaji Ganesan the doyen of these movies from Chennai, is also synonymously identified with “Kattabomman” for his fiery and lengthy tirades against the britishers. When the content is good and the performer is great and if his tone is divinely baritone how can anyone help themselves from standing up and applauding it
End Line -
Can you say “I love you” any better?
What Love means to a 4-8 year old . .
Touching words from the mouth of babies.
A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, ‘What does love mean?’ The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think:
________________________________________
‘Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.’
Terri – age 4
________________________________________
‘Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.’
Danny – age 7
________________________________________
‘Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more.
My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss’
Emily – age 8

‘Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.’
Bobby – age 7 (Wow!)
________________________________________
‘If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate,’
Nikka – age 6
(we need a few million more Nikka’s on this planet)
________________________________________
‘Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.’
Noelle – age 7
________________________________________
‘Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.’
Tommy – age 6
________________________________________
‘During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling.
He was the only one doing that. I wasn’t scared anymore.’
Cindy – age 8

‘My mommy loves me more than anybody
You don’t see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.’
Clare – age 6

‘Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.’
Mary Ann – age 4

‘I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.’
Lauren – age 4

‘When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.’ (what an image)
Karen – age 7

‘Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn’t think it’s gross.’
Mark – age 6

‘You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.’

And the final one — Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge.
The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.
The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.
Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, ‘Nothing, I just helped him cry’
The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They simply are the ones who care the most.
Yours as always

Amitji,
I remember it happening when you came to the Cheeni Kum Premiere, in London’s Empire Leicester Square…whilst on your entry in the silver suit, the run in the park scene claps and whistles..I experienced an atmosphere that day that I longed for, since I had never had the opportunity to see any of your older movies 70′s and 80′s in cinema..
So glad to know the response of the critic is heartwarming and so is the cinema going audience…well done, Bravo….hope this is the first big hit of this year…
All the best always

Hi Amitji!
I do remember how many times the audience clapped for Auro in the theater where I watched the film. I am sure every film of your has the privelege of receiving thunderous applauses all through the film! So, I am not surprised to know that Rann too evoked a similar response from the audience. It is an altogether new subject and I am going to enjoy watching it! Revel in the roaring applause that you received Amitji! Rann wil definitely be watched over the weekend!

Amit ji Namaskaram,
By sure, I am looking forward to witness RANN in AMCs, Mississauga this weekend. As being an associated FmXt spirit, I feel proud and happy for the thunderous and prolonged applause you received for the finishing scene delivery. If that could bring tears in your eyes who delivered the dialogue, I bet, I am gonna have hard time controlling myself.
I am looking forward to attach my soul to the depth of that final scene when my mouth will go dry, my jaw will feel heaviness around and my brain will get stuck in trepidation.
I am ready for the surprises this weekend…..
With best wishes and lots of love….
Hi Mr. B. Congratulations on the wonderful reception of RAAN. You are just on fire right now!!! Seriously, I bet you have hit the billion mark in people who have watched your movies (and enjoyed them). I have to wait till PAA and RAAN come to netflix as I live in a small town with no theater. Have a great day tomorrow, Mr. B. Love and admiration to you, Mary Anne

Truly a Genius, you have won people’s hearts yet again, and this time experienced the ecstacy, rather witnessed it. What is even more touching is the adulation some of the people express on this blog…you are truly admirable
The severity of the Delhi winter has subsided..and you have some good weather.
I dont know how many of us Dilliwallahs would yearn for just that glimpse of yours, and a smile from you..but I am more convinced , by the day, it is almost impossible to meet up even with your office here to request for any appointment whatsoever. So I be content just recalling that day in March 1983, when I had a glimpse of you outside Sopaan. I guess, to be able to meet you for an autograph is a far cry. So, Cheers …for the day, and have a great day. with affection abundance
National Bingo Night hits the jackpot, for now
Aminah Sheikh
Amitabh Bachchan wouldn’t mind losing this one. His son, Abhishek, who made his television debut on Colors, has managed the highest television viewership rating for any celebrity show with National Bingo Night.
The show has got a rating of 5.1, much more than the first episode of Bigg Boss (also on Colors a couple of months earlier) that the senior Bachchan hosted. In the process, Abhishek has outperformed the other celebrities as well — Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, et al. The ratings have been given by TV rating agency TAM Media Research.
But, the jury is out on whether National Bingo Night will be able to sustain its ratings. Experts feel weeks of hype created around the show has helped the initial rating. Also, the illustrious father can claim some credit. Amitabh Bachchan was the first participant at the show and came up with one of his best performances.
CASHING IN ON THE MOOLAH
TV VIEWERSHIP RATINGS (TVR) OF CELEBRITY SHOWS ON DEBUT DAY

Salman Khan Das Ka Dum 2009 2.2

Amitabh also promoted the show big time during the finale of Bigg Boss 3. Big B called his son from the TV studio and asked him what classes he was organising. That’s how the viewers were introduced to the show after almost a month’s promotion running across the out-of-home media talking about ‘Abhishek’s Aarami Classes’.
“With the success of Paa, the father-son duo have been top of the mind for audiences. This has helped the show’s ratings. Colors has done a smart thing by capitalising on the show at the right time. Also the format is new. All these factors have helped in record ratings,” said Shubha George, MD, MediaEdge.
The show is based on an international format called Bingo and owned by Fox Television Studio. Here, not just the studio contestants, but also the studio audiences and television viewers can play. While the contestant plays in-studio games based on game ball numbers, the studio audiences predict the numbers and try to match these with their tickets. No special skills are required to bag prizes.
Ashvini Yardi, Programming Head, Colors, said: “There was a huge wave of interest amongst the viewers to play the game of Bingo with Abhishek. The format of the show is so simple, the ease with which Abhishek conducts the game and the Saturday 9 pm time slot is all so perfect, that it gives the entire family a chance to sit and play together, enjoy and win prizes.”
TV actor Ali Asgar, who shares screen space with Abhishek Bachchan in game show National Bingo Night, clarifies that he is not the host of the show. He says he is more like an entertaining element who comes on stage in various avatars.
“I can’t really define my role in Bingo. I’m not really a host I am more of a entertainment element. You will see me interacting with the host and with the audience. I have been termed as Bingo Buddy by Abhishek Bachchan,” Ali said.
“Bachchans are the first family of Indian cinema. I have been fortunate to work with Amitabh ji, Ashwarya and now Abhishek too. It gives me a high to be associated with them.”
Ali says Abhishek never throws any tantrums on the sets. “Abhishek is a gem of a person, very down to earth. I did not have any attitude problems working with him. I feel comfortable working as he gives me freedom to share the stage. Not many actors are willing to do that,” he said.
Commenting on the format of the show, Ali said: “Every individual’s life has become stressful. Even while asleep we are stressed. The concept of the show is very relaxing and entertaining. We have tried to make it a task for everybody who wants to play. May that be the contestants, the studio audience or the audience sitting at home. Everybody can be a part of the show and they don’t have to take much pain. It is total paisa vasool show.”
The actor, who became a known name by working in soaps like Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, feels reality shows give more space and freedom to an actor to experiment.
“After Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii I tried to explore my dimensions. I gained popularity from fiction shows, but I have realised reality shows give a lot of freedom. We don’t have to be calculating and it is more fun. Winning Comedy Circus acted as a benchmark to showcase the funny side of my personality,” he said.
Ali is currently doing National Bingo Night, comedy show FIR and Farah Khan’s movie Tees Maar Khan.

Respected Amitji,
Sirji.. I CAN ONLY REMEMBER AT ALL TIMES – AN AUDIENCE APPLAUSE IN THE MIDDLE OF ANY FILM, AT THE END OF A SCENE OR DIALOGUE. It has happened many in the past.. many comparatively less in between but innumerable and many many more in the recent past. Each time i see ur scene, or those captivating dialogues in many many movies ( i will not name them cos it is endless) the intensity remains the same sirji.. It is so powerful!
U seem really tired so pls take some much required rest.
lots of love and pranaams
archana(bangalore)
Sirji… You were moved to tears.. and i am moved to learn this.. ‘Rann’ has another historic performance by you!!!
Dear Amitji ,
inspite of decades of unparalleled work , numerous awards
and genuine acknowledgement for your work — you get
moved by applause . This is the connect that is so endearing ,
and takes you higher and higher .
I pray you keep enjoying your work , and create new milestones .
Amitji , watching you on T V gives the impression that you have
put on weight . If it is true please do take care . Your health is
our concern , and we want you to be good to yourself .
Good luck for Rann . Lets all enjoy another gift from you .
Love to you ,
Sumesh
Amithji….I was watching the show yesterday with Rajdeep sardesai.
You kicked ass amithji. Your question “What gives you the authority to make (giv out) such compelling news?” found rajdeep dumbstruck….hahaha…totally enjoyed it.
You have asked him the question lots of indians have been wanting to ask. It was hillarious seeing him trying to pass it off saying its a simple question, hahahahaha.
Passing judgement has become a pastime for these guys….it was about time somebody put this into perspective and point out in a succinct manner, which you are a master at amithji…….
My congratulations to you on that……hahahaha……wish other media barons would watch this and introspect on the judgemental reporting of theirs…..
Hello Amitji!!!
Congrats for your new film.I just adore your way of working.Would like to have the same will like you throughout my life!!!
Good morning, Amitji. Thank you for your short n’ sweet post, written despite the extreme fatigue that prevented you from writing more. You must really have been tired, or I bet you would have definitely written more.
So happy to hear of the wonderful reception of RANN and the spontaneous applause. I hope it was a standing ovation, which I’m sure you truly deserve for your tremendous performance. I can believe it must have been quite a moment, a deeply moving one. I hope Jayaji, Abhishek, Aishwarya, Shweta and her family were there to participate in the moment of joy. Please do give us more details as soon as you can. And maybe some photographs?
Like Phyllis and many others, I can hardly wait for tomorrow when RANN opens here. I have put all recreation, entertainment and socialising on hold till the end of my semester, but am making an exception for this film (will perhaps make another one for Teen Patti!).
I hope you had a wonderful sleep, and are ready to take on this beautiful day. May it be a glorious one. My love and regards, always,
Jasmine Jaywant
sir
Critics have given a salute to Ran and to you !!!!! Way to go Auro….. Congrats on a perfect home run for Rann
Manoj
Sirji,
Many Congrats on the reviews of Rann. Everyone is praising your performance. The film will be a super hit…
Love you,
Ajay Lodha
Sir, isnt it too obvious that a movie with a star like u in it is acknowledged. It may not be the case with you, but thats the case with me. I feel bad even if I hesitate to watch your movie. The name “Amitabh Bachchan” itself speaks about the film whether its under cast, production, direction, playback or even the guest appearances. I am sure although you do lots of films in a year but still you are those choosy ones in terms of script.
Salutes
Dear Mr. Bachchan,
Yes, it is unusual for movie audiences to applaud a good scene. I guess that’s the difference between a stage performance and a cinema role. ‘Rann’ looks promising and I hope that your team would win the battle.
Greatest regards,
Melwyn
dear amitji,
greetings, sir, rann will be a huge success, amen!, ur the man with the midas touch, don’t worry, keep well,
regds
Dear FmXt, am I too late for the GROUP HUG? I bet not, it is still going on, right? Okay, then, here I am, mmmmm. Daisy M, what a wonderful thing a hug is, and how wonderful that you initiated one. Have I ever told you that your comments are some of the most intelligent, delightful and insightful ones on the blog?
Ramanthan: I am so sorry I’d been mis-spelling your name! However, there is one and only Ramanathan here, by any other spelling!! And I don’t want such fame, baba! If at all, I would like to be known and respected for my work, for my academic and professional achievements, otherwise I’m content to be one of the “aam” persons that Amitji wrote about the other day. Lovely definitions of love today! Made me remember those “Love is…” depictions in magazines in India several decades ago, with the cute boy and the adorable girl, and always a heart drawn in. I had a whole stack of those definitions.
Phyllis dear #119: hire a lawyer pronto, I see lawsuits coming your way for having caused some coronaries among the female FmXts here by putting up some very dangerous links! Also, I have to call you to tell you how the “nn” of Rann is pronounced in Hindi, it is not the n sound, but another sound that does not exist in the English language.
Mrs. G. A. Patel: thank you for your sweet comment and your kind words of support and encouragement. I truly appreciate it. Reading your comments reminds me a lot of my mother sometimes. The comment supposedly by me saying I will not write here anymore was not written by me, but by someone pretending to be me. Rest assured, I’m not abandoning this family.
Muralee, thanks. It is good to know that a friend is watching out for me from the sidelines and is there for me.
Shalini, this one is for you, in the context of your comment #13 on day 645: “You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.”
Pawan Pipalwa and Pettssy: Good to see you both back. Missed you.
Shankar and Srinivas: hello to you too. Love to all FmXt, I hope everyone has a lovely day. I will see you on the other side of the night (which it is now, in my part of the world).
Jasmine Jaywant
Dear Sir,
Please take much needed an 8 hour sleep.
Thanks for being there.
May god bless u with success and may luck be by ur side.

Mr Amitabh Bachchan,
I have been reading your posts, this was the third one, perhaps number 4. Its unbelivable for me to read something that actually comes out of your pen every night, and totally overwhelmed to write back to you.
Dear Amit Uncle
Goodmorning………………….
good luck for “RANN’
Love
SUPER…. SUPER…. SUPER …..
No words… just no words – YOU ARE THE BEST
May god belss you…
Lot’s of warm wishes / Sandeep
Hi Mr. Bachchan
Well, after reading the post I must say I am eagerly awaiting for the nxt one as I am sure you are going to elaborate on the reactions of the audience post premiere.
Also, hopefully I shall be able to catch ur appearance on Dance India Dance as well as on CNN IBN news at 9PM. I saw one yesterday where u appeared as Guest Editor with Rajdeep Sardesai. You take on Bharat Ratna was a novel one & I feel it would be very honest approach to choose a common citizen instead of a prominent personality,as being in the public eye for the contribution to the nation cannot be a criteria for an award.
Take care
Love & regards

Hello uncle

Respected Shri Amitabh Sir,
News also needs fine prioritisation about the lead news: news about the weakest need to be lead story. Many horrible rape and murders have happened beyond Delhi and Mumbai but are not visible to our media as they do not have journalists in ground nor they read vernacular press which reports these incidents.
Saw your CNN anchoring yesterday. Your best has not come; it seems you have not enough home work. You would have got real picture from any one working for vernacular press.
Your thrice repeated but unanswered question to Rajdeep was pinnacle: “What is the authority for journalists shape public opinion?”
The answer you may have wanted to hear: Journalists get an authority from values enshrined in constitution of India and laws arising from it. But off the late they have become constitution themselves, that why all problems.
I have worked as Vice President of the largest circulated kannada daily. Here some feed back for anchoring tonight:
1) Every news item must be checked for its constitutional spirit and public informed of the same. Sadly many journalists at bottom of hierarchy have not studied constitution of India, public administration, political science, history and sociology. With out this foundation a news can not be reported, selected, interpreted in our national cultural context. The NGO I work with has been able to persuade government of India via UGC to include constitution of India in syllabus. However despite UGC order many government universities are yet to implement it and Not to speak of private universities.
2) The majority of journalists at bottom of hierarchy are just like unskilled labour: No journalism qualification, no decent wages despite statutory mandate [3 to 5 k only], no job security and exploitation like in any other industry: apprentice [2 to 3 years], trainee [2 to 4 years], probation [2 to 3 years] and may become permanent after 7 to 8 years .If they try to fight for their rights, they will thrown out or will be suppressed like Honda violence at Delhi. By 7th year all his self respect, spirit of fighting for truth and justice is lost. He becomes a vegetable or animal or machine.
3) Above all even best of national news networks do not have one correspondent in each taluka to give original news from field. Forget taluka they do not even have one in each district. If you consider travel time and time spent on each story, these under paid, under qualified field journalists are also over burdened by work load. Considering the profit they make, it is possible for increasing number of journalists, their wages and reducing load.
4) Biggest frauds unearthed by lowly paid journalist are traded by owners for advertisements, further demoralising journalist Or may start making money on own by turning black mailer. The paid news has origins in phenomena. Started by private sector as PR to cover up and used by government for issuing advertisements.
5) Few literature qualified get job as anchor in vernacular TV media: this is killing native languages of India. It is disgusting to see they searching for words in a live show.
6) Then news must have fair ratio based on:
a) Rural : 70%
b) Urban: 30%
7) News also need to balance:
a) Legislative Policies
b) Executive decisions
c) Judicial pronouncements
d) Social problems
e) Sports
f) Foreign
g) Films
h) Fashion shows
i) Unnecessary controversial, sensational live telecasts like prof Batuknath or calling Mumbai-Bambai to generate hype before release of movie or product to get free publicity.
9) Few interesting life style or colourful, meaningful cultural tit bits which are nothing but sustainable practices most needed remedy for global warming are reported from different parts of the nation, especially from North east. We know much about wine making, Rio festival, cat and dog shows of western countries but not our own festivals.
Kind Regards,
Bhujang Rajshekhar

Dear Mr. Bachchan,
With great hope and anticipation, I went to attend the Rann Delhi Premier last night, taking extra care to look good.. don’t know why
. Primarily hoping to catch a glimpse you(We had been told you were coming). Never knew that Stars don’t come into the theatre and alas I missed a chance to see you
In spite of my attention being on your arrival and then on the murmurs of Abhishek and Aishwarya accompanying you, I did watch Rann (could focus more in the second half) and did really found the movie gripping particularly the climax scene of your telecast.Once again your performance was par excellence. You personify excellence.
Congratulations to you and the entire team of Rann. Wish all luck and good wishes for this movie to be a super hit.
Best Regards,
Krishna
DEAR AMITJI,
You are GREAT, GREATER and the GREATEST now. You are reaching a point where it is difficult and impossible for any actor to reach there. Just like Sachin in Cricket, Lata Didi in Singing, Ustad Zakir Hussain in Tabla, Bismillah Khan in Shehnai, Lakshmi Mittal in Steel, Narayana murthy in Software, APJ Kalam as President, Sivamani in Drums, A R Rehman in Music and many many more.
CONGRATS for RANN.
Hi Sir…

It was a pleasant surprise to meet you at Bombay airport early morning, when you were coming to Dubai for your perfume launch. It was a treat to watch you signing autographs of your fans there, also standing humbly & gently at the security check. It is not wrongly said that a fruit-laden tree is always bent.
Your ‘Paa’ had only one thing missing – if only dear Aishwarya could play your mother’s role. It would just complement the husband wife pair on-screen.
PLUS, the entire ABCL (AJAA) would be on-screen.
Just one more flaw in ‘Paa’ —- your most hated word ‘Bollywood’ was visible
in the beginning of the movie.
GOD GIVE ME ONE MORE CHANCE TO MEET YOU.
Sir,
I want nothing but just a superduper collections at the Box-Office from RANN….

Dear Mr.B,
We are planning to go catch Rann today for sure…have been following your blog and all the promotional events of the movie and am very excited to see what seems to be like a masterpiece.
Also wanted to add that my wife and me were completely in awe of you while watching the program on CNN IBN last night. Your ability to question and sometimes even stump a senior jurno like Rajdeep was amazing and completely complimented the penache with which you answered some tough questions posed by Rajdeep. Most people believe actors have a very limited amount of grey matter but this myth keeps getting broken everytime you or Shah Rukh Khan are interviewed and put in what seemingly is a “tough” interview!!
All the best fo the Rann…looking forward to catching it tonight!!
Luv,
Anirudh
Dear Sir,
How are you Sir ? Happy to know that audience in multiplex applauded your performance.i am looking forward to watch ‘RANN’ on coming Saturday.

I m a new entrant to your extended family though i have visited your blog a couple of times. Was just reading your blog note on day 647. This is simply superb. This however must be nothing new for you and in fact you have grown above all this (standing ovation etc.). No one can beat you ever.
My heartiest congratulations n best wishes for your future endeavors.

Sir,
Congratulations for yet another great performance.Standing ovation at Mumbai and a theater like applause at New Delhi must have brought to you the desired job satisfaction and adrenaline for your next endeavour.
I was not in hurry to watch this movie as normally it would be difficult for me to tolerate anything related with media. But now, I got to rush.

Anand
Aishwaya TVM- Welcome back. We were missing you and Sudhir here.
I WATCHED RANN…IT IS SUPERB
Dearest Amitji,
Congrats!!! I am so happy for you.. I knew you would rock in the film.
Love you

My dearest Mr. Bachchan,
C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S !!!! To be able to hold sway even after all these years of performing tirelessly for a we-want-more audience, and for continuing to reinvent yourself, film after film, is truly a feat only a Star of the Millenium would be able to accomplish! Well done, and God Bless! I must add too, that I have never seen a film of yours being marketed the way Rann has been. I am extremely happy for you…..and I am very sure that Teen Patti too will go along the same route as PAA and Rann…just you wait and watch!
But what makes me the happiest these days, is to see you, firmly acknowledge the fact that you are bushed and ready to oblige that beckoning comfort of your bed….’der se aaye durust aaye’……like they say, respect your machine and it will serve you better! Revel in your glory and watch Rann breaking records too….I hope this trend never ends for you! Felicitations too for RGV and the entire cast and crew of this film.
Take care and remain safe!
With much love,
Always,
Kashmira

Great stuff with Rajdeep Sardesai on the IBN guest editor bit.
I liked that curve ball…”where do you get your authority from…when you make that pronoucement…” fantastic.
on a personal note…i would have prefered a similar set up with pranoy roy. roy is a class act, polite, probing, smiling, proding, and letting the interviewee holding his space.
Daisy 32, I’m not the huggy type in general, but for you I make the exception….so here’s a great big teletubby hug for you! (to be continued)

Tonight I have watched your talented wife in ‘Annadata’.She was lovely in it but I kept picturing you in the role of the artist and I think you would have been perfect. The film holds up today in its message. An added bonus was that every other break had your promo for what seemed to me both Teen Patti and Dance India Dance. I loved the way you said ‘baby’ at the end.
I’m looking forward to reading more details about the premiere of RANN and hope you have gotten plenty of rest.
Good night.
Love,
Rochelle
I am very very happy to see that your heart is filled with joy and happiness on how the audience reacted. I really cant wait to see RANN. Have checked the cinemas but looks like they will screen next week starting Monday or something. Was hoping on this weekend
Tell you something Amitji and you know this too, that aapne tou sabhi actors ki chotti kardi di by being in the movie world for such a long time, till now still giving hits per hits and still on top of the ladder getting the best actors award.
I am sooo proud of my hero and that is you and ONLY YOU.
Enjoy the rest of your day gorgeous.
Love you heaps
Ashwini (Sydney)
Hi Sir,
Knew RANN would garner an enthusiastic response. Congratulations for that. In yesterday’s reply, I had said there is every reason to be optimistic and the result has now been witnessed. When ones work is appreciated it does bring in that overwhelming emotion of taking in the moment and feeling that your dedication and hard work has paid off both for yourself and the audience who you have worked for. This was the first response for RANN and I am sure there will be more to come. It is PAA all over again in terms of appreciation!
Regards and Love,
S
pranam Amitji……..
You ROCKS in RANN
Love u
Dear Amitji,
You are absolutely terrific while you perform as a guest editor of CNBC-TV18. I watched your interview with Rajdeep Sardesai yesterday and you were absolutely AMAZING. No one can question your inborn talent, determination and quench for success. At such an age, you are amongst the smartest people in the country, or rather globe. Indian society and people get so much confidence and zeal while watching you!!

I saw your interview in CNNIBN and read the following blog from Roger Ebert and was stuck by how both your logic dovetail about media intrusion in lives of celebs.
I am providing a link to the one of the best blogs on the net by probably the best film critic around.

Dear Amitji,
I am sure that must have happened innumerable times in theaters… applause when your name appears at the beginning, during your entry, your dialogues, your stunts, your comedy, your romance … anything at all could give a fan goosebumps … the applause is more a reflex and so would be the screeches, screams, and tears from the ladies! Its called the ‘Bachchan’ effect and we dare not question it! We just experience and enjoy the feel. I guess you were never there with us in the theaters to experience it before, and I am glad you could now and hopefully for the screenings of all your future movies. May the success, applause, the content slumber and beautiful dreams continue..
Love,
Aishwarya.

Sir, I never applaud in any film, and think that doing so is childish, as it’s a screen on the opposite and not a live theatre where the actor can listen to the applause and get encouraged. But while watching Rann, I couldn’t help applauding at your speech in the end. Simply superb sir, truly awe-inspiring. A standing ovation.
With warm regards
Prakash Gowda
Dear sir,
HAppy to know that ‘RANN pass HO gaya ‘ !! Hope a scene of longest shot without break in the Rann which would have made the audiences speechless .

Hope this helps you in dealing with media:
Fairness and Accuracy in reporting web site fighting for same issues: http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=100
Media is equally responsible for sad state of nation in collusion with legislature, Executive and Judiciary. This unholy nexus has ruined USA and ruining India.
What’s Wrong With the News?
Independent, aggressive and critical media are essential to an informed democracy. But mainstream media are increasingly cozy with the economic and political powers they should be watchdogging. Mergers in the news industry have accelerated, further limiting the spectrum of viewpoints that have access to mass media. With U.S. media outlets overwhelmingly owned by for-profit conglomerates and supported by corporate advertisers, independent journalism is compromised.
Ultimately, FAIR believes that structural reform is needed to break up the dominant media conglomerates, establish independent public broadcasting, and promote strong, non-profit alternative sources of information.
Issue Area: Corporate Ownership
Almost all media that reach a large audience in the United States are owned by for-profit corporations–institutions that by law are obligated to put the profits of their investors ahead of all other considerations. The goal of maximizing profits is often in conflict with the practice of responsible journalism.
Not only are most major media owned by corporations, these companies are becoming larger and fewer in number as the biggest ones absorb their rivals. This concentration of ownership tends to reduce the diversity of media voices and puts great power in the hands of a few companies. As news outlets fall into the hands of large conglomerates with holdings in many industries, conflicts of interest inevitably interfere with newsgathering.
FAIR believes that independent media are essential to a democratic society, and that aggressive antitrust action must be taken to break up monopolistic media conglomerates. At the same time, non-corporate, alternative media outlets need to be promoted by both the government and the non-profit sector.
Issue Area: Advertiser Influence
Most of the income of for-profit media outlets comes not from their audiences, but from commercial advertisers who are interested in selling products to that audience. Although people sometimes defend commercial media by arguing that the market gives people what they want, the fact is that the most important transaction in the media marketplace–the only transaction, in the case of broadcast television and radio–does not involve media companies selling content to audiences, but rather media companies selling audiences to sponsors.
This gives corporate sponsors a disproportionate influence over what people get to see or read. Most obviously, they don’t want to support media that regularly criticizes their products or discusses corporate wrongdoing. More generally, they would rather support media that puts audiences in a passive, non-critical state of mind-making them easier to sell things to. Advertisers typically find affluent audiences more attractive than poorer ones, and pay a premium for young, white, male consumers-factors that end up skewing the range of content offered to the public.
It is becoming harder and harder to escape from the propagandistic effects of advertising. Many students are now forced to watch commercials in school on Channel One. Even supposedly “noncommercial” outlets like PBS and NPR run ads-euphemistically known as “underwriter announcements.” FAIR believes that commercial advertising should be taxed, with the proceeds earmarked to fund truly noncommercial media.
Official Agendas
Despite the claims that the press has an adversarial relationship with the government, in truth U.S. media generally follow Washington’s official line. This is particularly obvious in wartime and in foreign policy coverage, but even with domestic controversies, the spectrum of debate usually falls in the relatively narrow range between the leadership of the Democratic and Republican parties.
The owners and managers of dominant media outlets generally share the background, worldview and income bracket of political elites. Top news executives and celebrity reporters frequently socialize with government officials. The most powerful media companies routinely make large contributions to both major political parties, while receiving millions of dollars in return in the form of payments for running political ads.
In this incestuous culture, “news” is defined chiefly as the actions and statements of people in power. Reporters, dependent on “access” and leaks provided by official sources, are too often unwilling to risk alienating these sources with truly critical coverage. Nor are corporate media outlets interested in angering the elected and bureaucratic officials who have the power to regulate their businesses.
Telecom Policy
The United States’ original communications policy is the 1st Amendment. Freedom of the press was guaranteed in the Constitution because an exchange of information and an unfettered debate were considered essential components of a democratic society.
Today, however, government policy is designed less to facilitate a democratic discussion than to protect the investments of media corporations. Regulations tend to promote the formation of huge media conglomerates and discourage new, competing voices.
PR Industry
The drive to maximize profits compels corporate news outlets to produce more and more news with fewer and fewer reporters. With less time to do each story, journalists are increasingly pressured to rely on the public relations industry to do much of their work for them: Reporters can rewrite press releases rather than do their own independent research, and TV stations can broadcast promotional videos that are designed to look like news footage. This symbiotic relationship between news outlets and the industries they cover, however, is a bad deal for the public.
Pressure Groups
While institutional pressures are enough to keep most journalists from straying from the conventional wisdom, pressure groups stand ready to punish the exceptional reporter who challenges the official agenda.
FAIR believes that grassroots activism around media issues is legitimate and indeed essential. When does an activist group become a pressure group? A pressure group is more concerned with suppressing viewpoints that it disagrees with than ensuring that a wide range of perspectives is available. Since pressure groups are often funded by companies or industries whose interests they promote, these groups often push ideologies that are already well-represented in media debates.
Narrow Range of Debate
Given that most media outlets are owned by for-profit corporations and are funded by corporate advertising, it is not surprising that they seldom provide a full range of debate. The right edge of discussion is usually represented by a committed supporter of right-wing causes, someone who calls for significantly changing the status quo in a conservative direction. The left edge, by contrast, is often represented by an establishment-oriented centrist who supports maintaining the status quo; very rarely is a critic of corporate power who identifies with progressive causes and movements with the same passion as their conservative counterparts allowed to take part in mass media debates
Sensationalism
Profit-driven news organizations are under great pressure to boost ratings by sensationalizing the news: focusing attention on lurid, highly emotional stories, often featuring a bizarre cast of characters and a gripping plot but devoid of significance to most people’s lives. From Tonya Harding to O.J. Simpson to Elian Gonzalez, major news outlets have become more and more dependent on these kind of tabloid soap operas to keep profits high.
Censorship
Since governments almost always have an interest in controlling the free flow of information, official censorship is something that must be constantly guarded against. In our society, however, large corporations are a more common source of censorship than governments: Media outlets killing stories because they undermine corporate interests; advertisers using their financial clout to squelch negative reports; powerful businesses using the threat of expensive lawsuits to discourage legitimate investigations. The most frequent form of censorship is self-censorship: Journalists deciding not to pursue certain stories that they know will be unpopular with the boss.
Rabbakhuda
Dear Mr. Bachchan,
Everybody is praising the movie and your acting. Let me inform you about the tweet of Mr. Abhishek Bachchan. It reads as – “One more thing is certain…. We don’t deserve a talent like Mr. AMITABH BACHCHAN! Don’t think we can make movies to fit his talent! ”
I was so happy to read the tweet. The same thing was told by Mr. Hrishikesh Mukherjee long back. And while discussing the acting level of yours I too used to tell others that we can’t have directors who can use the talent of Mr. Bachchan to the fullest.
Heartfelt congratulations for all applause.

This was vision of the GREAT HARIVANSHRAI BACHCHANJI.
How forsightedness were the thinkers like him in the past. We lack good leaders who think on similar lines. A P J Abdul Kalamji is an exception.
LOVE,
Shriman Amitabh Harivanshraiji Bachchan,
Pranam,
Congrutulations on great performance & reactions to RANN.
Samay / kaal/ Time is all powerful. If this is in ur side, everything goes well.If otherwise then results are also otherwise.Of course Basic talent/hardwork/dedication is a vital requirement. But the same is NOT guarantee for success in the required proportion- matching with the talent & ability.
It was the same Bhima/Arjuna who had to hide/become a Cook/Dancer when the Kaal was not in favour.
So always pray to Shri Mahakaleshwar – & (perhaps U might not hv seen my comment a couple of months back) try & visit Ujjain.
Regards,
Shashishekhar Maheshdattji Vyas

great to see u at cnn ibn. u were fabulos.it was a real pleaure for mind. i like ur concept for bharat ratna. relly everyone can not be bhimsen oshi or bismillah khan. but a lot of common people are doing teir job honestly hardworkingly.if these common people stop working, country will stop.they too are our ratna. a mechanism should be there to recognise them.subhanallah. ur view on ruchika case are relly appriciable.i was sticked to my chair till the end of news show.

The day of reckoning—-for Rann
The thousands of cinema-goers and the critics will have the first glimpse of the film today and the tomorrow’s edition of news papers will carry the review of this ambitious project of Ramu and the man does not believe in paid reviews.
Let us keep our fingers crossed.
Found this interesting piece from the net, hope its true and we can use it.
Ever forget your cellphone charger at a hotel? Turns out that’s an extremely common mistake—one you can use to your advantage to replace your lost charger, whether you lost it there or not.
Over at community news site Reddit, a user points out his clever trick:
Next time you lose your phone charger, don’t buy another one. Go to a hotel and say you think you lost it there. It’s the #1 most left behind item at hotels, so most places have a big bin filled with every phone charger imaginable.
It may seem a little underhanded, but one Gizmodo reader explains just how abundant these chargers are at hotels:
I work for the second largest conference hotel in my city. You have no idea the size box we have of chargers left behind. 90 percent are idiot blackberry chargers. This works 100% of the time, we never verify that anyone stays here we just let them go shopping for [their] charger. Hell we even will give people a charger if they call down to the front desk and say they forgot theirs!
Update: Reader Eric writes in with his own similar suggestion:
I lose my charger all the time; another trick is doing the same thing at the car rental counter. Just say you left your charger in the car the last time you were there and they will pull out a box full of chargers to pick from. Works every time.
So there you have it: Whether you forgot your charger at home or lost it altogether, check with a hotel; you may find a quick and easy replacement. If not—well, it was worth a try, right? Know some other clever tricks of the trade?
Cheers
Barun
Just an elation at the standing ovation at a delivery of some power-packed lines in Rann by you will not the help the film at the box office.
The aggressive post release marketing is a must for the success of the film . The glimpses of the dialouge in reference must be shown on all prominent TV channels for bringing the people to theaters.
hi amitji,
i m waiting eagerly to watch this movie of urs

Dear Sir,

Love u,bye.
Dear Sir,
The whole world knows you are a legend, even then I was truly amazed when my four year old son became transfixed by Jai in “Sholay”. “Sholay” was the first movie my husband saw in the theatres and my inlaws say that for months afterwards he would imitate you, standing in front of the mirror. He was just five years old then. Cut to 1984-85. My brother, then just 4 years old, would play make-believe and mutter to himself “Amitabh Bacchan aa gaya…”. And now 35 years later, the third generation in my family, becomes mesmerized by your charisma! It is truly amazing. After “Sholay” we sat down to re-watch “Amar Akbar Anthony”. My son’s eyes would sparkle every time you came onto the screen, and he would jump up and down on the bed, shouting “Amitabh Bachchan”! He didn’t react that way when any other actor appeared on screen! You are the only actor whom he knows by name.

Appears Ramu has put in sincere effort after the debacle of Aag and appears to have made Rann a powerful saga of contemporary tug of war in electronic and print Media
Well done Ramu—Rann is likely to fetch you some awards for the year –2010
Amitabhji you have made it a habit to take to LAP TOP late in the night when there is stillness around and your creativity power is at its peak.
What an amazing way of organizing one’s routine—MANTRA OF S U C C E S S !
Dated:29.01.2010.
Dear Amitji…………………Great performance from You after a long time in Rann…………….it seems you are not a actor any more but you are living the characters……….it must be emotionally tiring………I understand.
Acting is an ephemeral art: once the performance is over, there is nothing left but the memory of it. There is no history, no documentation or record of acting itself before the end of the 19th century except for the written recollections of those who saw it. Acting masterpieces are known only by hearsay. It is as if all of Rembrandt’s paintings had disappeared and only the recollections of one of his admirers remained.
The origins of acting are in the act of remembering. Acting may have begun as early as 4000 BC when Egyptian actor-priests worshiped the memory of the dead. The first nonreligious professional acting may possibly have developed in China. Players there kept alive the memory of the triumph of the current emperor’s ancestors over the former dynasty. Acting has remained an art of remembering to the present day, when actors rely on their memories of emotions and sense experiences to perform a reenactment of those feelings…………..
with lots of love………..Birbal

Hi Sir,
I was never a fan of any one, as its a make belive world out there. To be honest I resented you most, not any particular reason. I dont know if this blog or you realy read this and personaly reply because a Aamm admi would also find it difficult to go through everything.
Anywaz, today in my life i saw your movie first day fisrt show, RANN, of all your movies that I have come across, this one was extermely powerful. The expression’s towards the end of the moview while you pretending in front of your son n the politition, and on your son’s death bed left me with tears. I dont belive in crying or hurt seeing a movie, but your extra ordinary performance has left me speechless.
Remarkable work sir, I just wanted to let you know this.
Thanks & regards,
Preethi

Dear Amitji,
i was very emotioned when i read your description of the Premiere.
You made us shed tears of emotioned in so many of your films,
emotion of love and affection.
You deserv all the applause in the world !!!
all of love & respect,
sigali
A big hi! to Ramanathan, Sharmila, Kashmiraji, Aishwarya, Jasmine, Zainab, Anat Magen, Vandana, Angel, Devkishin, Pettssy and all friends here
Amitji,
You have made it again, RANN is just marvellous, just returned from the show.
Just like the last capture in Main Azaad Hoon, Baghban, yet another time, you have captured the audience in the last scene.
Was that the take which was done in the Half N Hour one take shot.
Amazing.
Went to see it in Navina in Kolkata, along with State Secretary Sanjay Patodia and other fans as well.
A few dialogues still ring along,
“main tumhein best of luck nahin kahoonga, kyunki tum apni kismet par nahin balki apne vishwaas par jyaada bharosa karte ho…”
“tees saal se main yeh rann lad raha hoon, aur main abhi bhi jeet nahin paaya” epitomises, your glorious 40 years of ruling bollywood and still not insatiated, with many more to come by in the near future.
Rann will definitely take a place in all the awards as well for the year 2010 in the Critics Segment, but your presence and acting prowess, will definitely win you the best actor again for Rann in all award functions both on the mass appeal and Critics award as well.

Dear Dada(As in Big Brother),
I take the liberty of addressing you so inspite of the fact that you are about my Father’s age is solely due to the fact that Allahabad has been my “Rannbhumi” for almost half of my life. We (my friends and me) have always called you dada and Abhishek bhatija…incidentally I also went to Boys’ High School for two years and spent my early years in Hazaribagh…so have always felt the connect with you.
This comment had been long overdue because ever since I learnt that you had started blogging I had nurtured thoughts of reading them…but somehow could not do so till today. I missed out on watching Paa because I had made it a point to watch it on 70mm and my 1and a half year old daughter would just not allow us the liberty to do so…we did not want to take her to the theatres because the last time we did so she found greater taste in other patrons’ popcorns:)
But this sunday we are going to watch Rann…we hope to get a show that coincides with her afternoon siesta. My best wishes & congratulations for making it ” Two Out of the World Movies in a Row”
BTW I am no expert of English language, yet have a humble suggestion…I think the phrase is “Many a time” and not “Many a times” as you kept saying in your recently telecast interview on Zoom.
Love
Sanjay
Dear Sir,
Your words above…”The varied and different kind of cinema that we are all used to may perhaps never give occasion to a moment of genuine applause at the end of a given performance, but when it happens we accept it and allow the world to pass by. Perhaps it is not our culture or our ethics.” I was under the impression applause was common amongst cinema-goers in India but if that has not been the case then your over-powering performance has indulged them into applaud and appreciation! Of course I’ve not yet see the film but one can sense that THAT scene will go down in history. I am so so so happy for you!
Just a thought…I suppose the word Rann in this context means battlefield… I know in Gujarati it means a desert.
Enjoy the rest of the day and please look after yourself.
Love,
Daksha
It is not very often I get to say a hello to all who come here on the blog so may I? Dear friends, I have scrolled down the comments and it is so endearing to see happiness and laughter being shared by Sir’s extended family. Phyllis and Valorie I “overheard” that conversation between the two of you about THE photo and now cant stop giggling! And Daisy’s hug seems to be very infectious, it is spreading ever so fast so here is one from me to you Daisy. I thank Smita** and Zainab and Anat Magen (Anat your comment was so funny I liked it) and Kashmira ji for including me in their list. I am sorry I do not have one on the blog but all are in my heart. My love and affection to all under the tent.

Daksha

There are a certain movies that you would want the review and rating for, but when it comes to Amitabh Bachchan, these minute things really dont matter. If the movie stars Big B in the lead, the question of not being impactful does not arise. From Black to Nishabd, Paa to now Rann, this legend’s movies always have a different story to tell and a different character to introduce.
After Rann and his outstanding performance in it, i am sure Teen Patti is also goin to create a similar or greater impact and trust me i am sure about this cause of the sneak preview i hav had on this movie.
Check it out on http://www.youtube.com/user/teenpattithemovie

Hi Amitji,
I am Mridula from Nagpur, daughter in law of late Hindi writer Shri Vishnu Prabhakarji. I loved your performance in Rann and Paa. You have proved that age is no barrier in cinema. Rann has mirrored the true picture of media’s sensationalist attitude towards news stories. Thank you for your poignant and realistic portrayal. Waiting for Teen Patti. All the Best!
Regards,
Mridula
Dear Angel,
Yes may be the 1st, but certainly not the last I hope.
Melwyn
This is on the recent stance of Bollywood on IPL:
The way I look at it is:
You hire a Pakistani cricketer -> You pay him -> He pays taxes to Pakistan Govt. -> They fund ISI -> ISI kills Indians.
Bottom line, you are hiring assassins.
Funny, that there was no noise against the apartheid policies of Modi and his cronies against ICL players. We seem to be worrying more about Pakistanis than Indians.
A billion people hear what you speak. You have a power to ignite minds.
Zainab,
Just when did you fly out to Dubai?
Melwyn
Dear Big B.
I have seen all pictures of you and you are a Big Big Star in this world. You are really Big B.
Regards from your one of the best friend,
Heman Patel
Amitabh Bachchan is spectacular yet again, especially towards the finale. His speech and the way he delivers it are remarkable. Sudeep is terrific. To stand up to giants like Bachchan and Paresh Rawal is no mean achievement. Riteish is only getting better and better with every film. In fact, he surprises you constantly.
Paresh Rawal, seen in an RGV film after a long, long time, is at his vicious best. Rajat Kapoor is incredible. Mohnish Bahl gets the role of a lifetime and he sinks his teeth into it. This film should open new vistas for him. Gul Panag is natural and so easy on the eyes. Neetu Chandra does her part well. Suchitra Krishnamoorthy is too good. Rajpal Yadav contributes to some funny moments. Neena Kulkarni and Simone Singh are perfect for their parts.
On the whole, ‘Rann’ is truly a well-made film
just a an extract of a review of ”rann”
Darling Big B,
Hit after Hit…cool man
love u loads
There are mixed reports/reactions about the film ”Rann”
After going through half a dozen reviews I feel the Media is divided in its evaluation of Ramu’s ”Rann”
The straight forward honest critics applaud while the dishonest and the cunning are trying to find drawbacks with their MAGNIFYING GLASSES!!!!!!!!!

Dear Amit Ji,
Hope you are doing well. I just came back from seeing your movie Rann, I have just one word for you ‘ brilliant’. The film is definitely one of Ram Gopal Verma’s best films to date. You have done an excellent job. This movie will definitely be nominated in the best movie, best actor, best director category next year.

Zainab, thank God…I’m relieved to know that you are still in Kolkata.
Just because you weren’t in touch with me, I thought you must be angry. That’s all, nothing to worry too much about. Love you.
Dear Sir
My bad luck that you were in Delhi (in my city) and i could not meet you…..good if you could at least let us know you plan for delhi visit in advance.
have seen newspaper review of RANN. Looking forward to see your another excellent performance.
Take care.

Dear God,
gritty yes, but sorry to say RGV has failed me by a small margin this time. The mounting makes me suspicious of the fact that the set and the technical crew was used for shoot of PHOONK2. How can one explain the horror film like atmosphere i dont know. The camera just cant stand still, it has to hip hop jump as if somone is trying to wriggle the camara operators belly button. The music is very distracting loud and seems forced. Manish, Paresh, Rajat , Ritesh and even Gul is good. Sudeep however keeps the legacy of over-the-top south Indian actors going. The press must hand it over to you now this time. Your portrayal has indeed showen them in good light. We all know how (un)fair they actually are. Now the most difficult question, hpw’s Mr. Bachchan in the movie?
Have always felt that THE INSIDER is one movie one of the better movie i have seen, one which involves the fourth eastate. GOD only you can outdo the brilliance, the madness, the vortex, the tornado called PACINO.
Yours Gratefully
Rajib
P.S.: Sure PRATIM D GUPTA will have a field day tearing the movie to shreads tomorrow in THE TELEGRAPH

Everyone is honest and good but it is so much nicer to see and hear that people are beginning to be honest, genuine in their acknowledgements, apllause as quickly, instantly and promptly than they used to do.
Yes we must learn and adapt ways to say more often what we love rather than what we hate!
Appreicate more and more, critcise less and less should be the order of the day!

Abhishek Bachchan was left in awe of his father, veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan’s performance as a media baron in Ram Gopal Varma’s “Rann”, so much so that he says India doesn’t deserve a talent like him.
“We don’t deserve a talent like Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. Don’t think we can make movies to fit his talent,” Abhishek posted on his Twitter page.
i am going to see rann right now…want to see the end of the movie specialyl!

It’s a good thing that I checked the Imaginasian Theater showtimes for RANN once again. They have taken away the 3:30 PM screening and instead the first one is in the evening. My dilemma is whether to see it in a multiplex 6 hours earlier or whether to see it at the Imaginasian where I can hopefully get a lobbycard and/or a poster. Either way, I will have to wait until I get indoors to write my reactions because in today’s bitter cold I will not want to open my laptop outside.
Counting the hours to RANN.
Love,

Dear Sir,
Congratulations Sir for your one more success. I know you are a person with sweet heart and emotions. I am writing to you for help to our children. I will write till I will get answer from you. Last year we started a residential school for Visually Impaired boys & Girls. School is for 50 students. It is a fully free school. There is no money taken from students. At present 42 visually disabled students are living in the hostel & taking education. Students from class 1 to 8 are in the school. They are from near by villages. As a big boss of us please do something for better education of these children. We are trying our best to give every thing to them. But for them always need required by kind, means, brail educational tools, computers with brail printer whatever you can. I know only one thought about them can change life of our these visually Impaired children. Please spare few minutes about them….Dinesh Singh

Rochelle 330 – I have the answer to your dilemma – see it TWICE! First at the multiplex, then drink lots of coffee and go to the Imaginasian and enjoy the experience all over again, plus grabbing a card AND poster if you can. I would.. if only I wasn’t working
Even have to work on Saturday too
Keep warm. The weather is beastly here too.

I have just come out of Inox,Siliguri, seeing your film RANN. I and everyone of us have liked the film, especially your exposure of News channels. This is hundred percent correct, not only for TV, but print media.Fourth Estate is now sold to Politicians and criminals. Except few of us from old school and believer of ethics and principals. I am editor of a hindi daily Janpath Samachar, published from Siliguri. If I get the portion of your last exposure, I will be obliged and will be glad to publish it. With best regards. rkbaid

Yes, I have thought of seeing it twice but I have to save all my money for the probable Paris trip to see Amitabh. Now I only see the cheap screenings except for his movies. The experience is much better at the Imaginasian anyway, and yes, I will grab all the posters/lobby cards I can take as usual. I don’t drink coffee and lots would be very unhealthy. (besides, there’s dripping water in my living room-have to find the super)
Keep warm over there too.
Love,
Rochelle
#357 Srinivasji- I am fine. Still not found work after having a small break over the Festive break, things are tough still. I hope it is not too long before I am working again. I hope everything is OK with you. Take care and keep in touch.

I never saw Madhubala though I am living in Mumbai since 1948.
The population of the city was much less 6 decades ago and the film actors moved freely . They were never mobbed.
I have seen Dilip kumar and Kamini kaushal while they were shooting for film ARZOO IN kandivali- East. As a school boy Ifollowed them to their resting place after the shoot. At that moment both the actors were attracted towards each other and I saw them indulging in some fun while they were removing their make up.
After some time Nargis came for shooting of film ”sheesha” . The unit was shooting in a private bungalow in our area –just two minute walk from our residence.I saw Nargis with a bunch of grapes and as soon as she was told that the shot was ready she immediately got into the act . She started shaking her entire frame out of fear as demanded by the script. I was stunned see her transformation.
As I was returning from my office one evening I saw a huge procession which included some top film stars passing through Kalbadevi area of Mumbai.. They were collecting funds for war widows.
I saw Devanand sitting on top of the hood of a truck. They would accept everything. I took out one rupee note and handed over to him and after shaking hand with him .
At Shanker-Jaikishan live show at Birla Matushri hall opposite Liberty cinema I saw number of film stars–Dilip Kumar,Saira Banu, Raj Kapoor, Nargis and others .
Manoj kumar was often seen loitering with his friends outside a hotel near Marine Drive Church Gate–Railway station. Once I saw Pradeep kumar walking freely near Church Gate.
I saw Darmendra immediately after he was selected by Filmfare for films in lobby of Liberty cinema. He had grown long hair ,looked skiny and shy. He was also moving freely in his earlier days.
At Mumbai Gymkhana ground jeetendra , shashi kapoor, Sanjay Khan and some others actors were seen playing cricket match.
There is a Dana Pani beach in Malad West and I, my daughter and My daughter-in -law often used to go for driving . once we saw Shahrukh Khan and Sonali Bendre shooting for a film. Shahrukhan had to go inside the water and come running to Sonali singing a song.
Once marathi actress Ashwini Bhave was seen shooting for a film.
Dana Pani beach is a famous location for film shooting –just half an hour drive from our place.
I was taken by surprise when I saw Nutan walking on pavement in Fort area. She was without make up and no one recognised her . She appeared quite tense. She passed away after some time due to cancer.
when we were staying in Lonavala , my uncle took me to Pune where shooting of marathi film Ram joshi was in progress.
Sunil dutt and Sadhana both studied in Jai Hind college. While Sunil Dutt was senior to me —he often used to visit the college to meet old friends–Sadhana was just one year senior to me . Once I attended a lecture in Sadhana’s class with my friends.
Mala Sinha,Jaishri Gadkar,Surendra,Simi were the other actors whom I met at film premiers.
There may be some more film celebrities whom I have seen in Mumbai.
amitji–abhishek bachchan needs to think and talk–
amitji is far better human than actors–bollywood is full of actors like aamir shah rukh akshay om puri etc
* Abhishek Bachchan praises father on Twitter, draws flak
STAFF WRITER 16:26 HRS IST
Mumbai, Jan 29 (PTI) Actor Abhishek Bachchan has sung high praises for his father megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Twitter, which has not gone down too well with his fans on the micro blogging website.
Lauding the 67-year-old star’s performance in his latest movie ‘Rann’, Abhishek wrote on his Twitter page, “We don’t deserve a talent like Mr Amitabh Bachchan! Don’t think we can make movies to fit his talent!”
But the ‘Guru’ star is having to explain himself ever since he posted the comment as his followers were not too pleased with it.
“It’s really lame to praise your own family, in media, especially to this extent. You should let people praise him!,” wrote one follower.
To which the junior Bachchan replied, “Would love to hear everyones opinion
361 Rochelle – understood! Life is tough, even for the employed. I buy an “Unlimited” cinema pass for Cineworld (horrible multiplexes) but then I can see movies as many times as I like (work permitting). I also subscribe to the BFI for higher values.
But don’t say ‘probable’ Paris. It is essential, unmissable… and the trip will work out somehow… Here they are offering some incredibly cheap Transatlantic flights at the moment.. maybe you will strike lucky if you could book now…

Dear Amitji,
Congratulations for the superb performance in “Rann” I am in Jakarta for past few months, and could not wait the office to get over so that I could go multiplex and watch the movie.
One Scene which in my view is the most brilliantly performed by you is when Purab enters the house of Vijay Malik when he is seating by the body of Jay. The way you look at Purab, the expression which said see, the price I have paid for siding with Truth, all told just thru eyes, no spoken word was required. It was an unforgettable moment in the movie and in my opinion your best scene,
Please continue to do such roles as long as possible,
Good night,
Puneet Agrawal

Wow !today I m actually very lucky on getting many replies from you
I heard you reciting Agnipath on Dance India Dance show. It clicked me then that not all the people really know about the good work done by Babuji.
It would be so great and a real tribute to Babuji if all his poems can be recorded in your voice. Idea is not to make money but it would be a means to take India’s great poet’s work to Indians and world through his son who is been blessed with a great voice.
I even dont know if this will be read bu you but i am trying my luck

Dear Amitji, Good Evening. I was very keen to read the blog today but my fatigue of site work kept me slept till 8:59am and had to rush to work. Mentally very demanding and physically very challenging manning a process to personally supervise and do corrections. What we used to do manually 20years back now is all converted in to a system. Success would mean yet another paper in an International Conference. And failures I haven’t learnt from you. So as I have written many months back I would also work hard taking inspiration from you. Evening I spoke to my wife and told her I am missing home and promised her will visit Kanya Kumari and Rameshwaram in my next visit along with her.
I have lost count of days and time and when I ask people what date it is they look at me in disbelief. This man does’nt seem to be wearing a watch and has no clue of today’s date. Yes morning to late night is only one long moment stretched enough to absorb breakfast lunch tea dinner etc and ofcourse work. When it ends will feel jobless. Hahaha!!!
Now the million dollar question why I wrote this as a long prelude before commenting or congratulating you. Because I knew when I wrote yesterday on blog that some people from media bycotting is a big compliment to you and Rann. Where I was wrong rather I am right to predict it will be raining AB at the box-office2010 has just begun.
Sometimes whole of our life’s experience is put in our moment of work. You did that with your longest dialogue and you had described it. Same place where you were thrown out peeping in to Shashi Kapoor’s set/recording. Life has turned full circle and the same location dialogue if I am not wrong got you standing ovation and endless clapping in the middle and end of scene. What is an emotion? It brings humbleness and tears in our eyes because we have given our lifetime dedication to achieve that perfection.
Have a wonderful satisfaction that a man who was bycotted by media in his primetime gets such an accolade for his performance. What a turn around in real life in real-time. That is what is known as probably fate-accompli…
My regards to those who appreciate valuable inputs in creating works which others cannot even dream of. Those who make the impossible possible by their perseverence and dedication. Those who love to share success with others so that many others can succeed.
When appreciation brings tears in our eyes our lives are enriched. There are many things in life which are beyond money and other worldly belongings. When joy becomes bliss the real reward is won.

Dear Mr.Bachchan,
I had met you when you were in Bangalore last week, and gave you a DVD of the film on Dr.Rajkumar that I have made. You had given me an exclusive interview for this film, and I am greatly obliged by your kind gesture.
This film on Rajkumar has been very successful, and appreciated by both Indian and international viewers.
It was a pleasure meeting you, albeit only for a few seconds. I was happy that I was able to give you the DVD, but I will be completely “Shanth” if you are able to see the film and give me your comments.
It is my dream to make a video biography on you. Please give me an opportunity to meet you and discuss this idea of mine.
With deep respects and warm regards,
Maya Chandra

NAMASTEY Mr. bacchan !
i wish all the very best for ur new released movie”RANN” and the forth coming movie”TEEN PATTI”.
sir u really don’t need any star coz u urself r a big star!may god bless u and give u so much strenght that u entertain us for 100′s and 100′s of years!
wish u all the best!
p.s.Just watched’dance india dance’.A very emotional..funny..thought provoking episode!Unusual for a dance show! The young partipants were overwhelmed with your presence! The small feature on Mithun Da,about how he began his struggle..his days at Kolkata..the parents of young Amar, who was born almost dead, breaking down on the show,on seeing the same boy, performing so well, overcoming all barriers, ridicule, was heartwarming to watch!
You narrated the incident when you said to your father Sri Harivansh Rai Bachchan,’jeevan mein badaa sangharsh hai..’and he said that it was inevitable.I remember you mentioning it long back, somewhere in an interview, how once, while you had gone to him in a troubled state of mind and asked for some advice,he had said’man ka ho to achchha,na ho to aur bhi achchha’.I think this statement has a lot of depth in it.Teaches us to be patient and forgiving!
Today’s paper has a review of’Rann’,full of positive comments about the film, your performance in it,specially a scene in the middle of the film(probably about which you wrote in today’s post)and the last scene. Also an interview with the actor Sudeep, who’s a very popular actor of Karnataka,is published. His performance in the film has been praised too.
Sir,I don’t know whether you are still in Delhi but apparently, the weather has improved considerably in the last two days!
Have a great day!
With warm regards…
Shobha,bangalore.
Sir, Brilliant work..

These days am watching a lot of your interviews on television. Tonight I saw you in Dance India Dance. I am kind of touched with whatever you say. Its like a shower of pearls of wisdom, love and happiness. I cannot express what I feel about you, respect you a lot Sir. Hope to see you in more and more movies.
My husband too is an eternal fan of yours. He respects you a lot.

Are indian citizens safe in city of Mumbai?
Does Mumbai belong to some politicians the way threats are being issued by them to law abiding citizens day and night
Is this behaviour of some politicians above law?
How long this will go on .
This is certainly a slap on the face of indian democracy
”’mile sur meara tumhara to sur bane hamara—–”has lost its relevance in Maharashtra.

Hullo Genius,
Watched the full episode of Dance India Dance. It did so appear that this spectacular show was designed for you..and of course there were some emotional moments…we are all humans. Thank god it is Friday…I think is truly relevant for the people who have office schedule/ business schedule/ academic schedule..I wonder, if in the world of glitz and glamour, is there a concept of weekend ? With so many Tv channels, the glamour that is displayed all over can put many of us to shame….it is really unbelievable!!!!
The spectacular Beating Retreat gave the grand finale to the Republic Day celebrations in the Capital. I never tire of watching the show.. And soon one has to arrange tickets for Rann,,,dont trust online booking..so it is a little tedious…but the desire to watch the film is greater than all else. Close for now..dusvidaniya
Amitabhji your power-packed dialouge at the end is applauded by everyone. why not promote film through this great piece of acting.

hi..lots of luv….vil watch rann…..u hve a gr8 day n god bless u always!!!
really shocked to see some reviews of rann..I just fail to understand wat pleases some film reviewers?? i mean they are too much obsessed about what they feel the movie is without any actual experience of film makin..cmmon now they gave 2star to 3 idiots and for some stupid hollywood movie they will give 4 star.. wat else do u expect..if these guys just dont like hindi movies y dont u stop reviewing it and let public judge the outcome..wat qualification does this reviewer has to review film?? has he or she ever made a movie..forget that has he or she even studied cinema academicalily?? dont u think they write reviews based on your perceptions of how the film should be made.. a film exposing them should be made by u sir..
Loved Rann…
I trust your acting after paa and now rann…every time yo come up with new variations…how do you tap these?
do u read allthe replies
Let us have open debate on the issue of ”mumbai for mumbaikars only”
As per the provisions of the constitution of India every indian citizen has a right to stay in any part of the country . Then why persons from other states are being driven away by force from city of Mumbai!
How long the Central Government , The State Government and the highest court of the land remain a silent spectator to this rule of jungle by the self proclaimed leaders who have vested all the decision making powers unto themselves.
Dear Sir,
Congratulations for an extremely meaningful film RANN ………… !
RGV has proved his worth again…!
Keep Rocking Sir…………!!

Dear Sir,
Take a bow… you’ve deservedly earned this applause!
And believe me you, Sir, this applause is not for the dialogue, not even for the direction, and certainly not for lighting or sound… its for your performance!
And its not for Amitabh Bachchan…., but for Harshvardhan Malik!
Even though the length of your role is much less than what we wanted, but still you’ve made the most of it, especially that speech you give towards the end!!!
My God, Sir! It is startling!
A real powerful & intense performance this!
Hats Off………, once again.
With love & regards,

Sir, I saw the movie , though Its not Ramu at his best like Satya, Company, Sarkar , but I do feel he is getting back to his style . Good for hardcore Ramu fans like me.
I do feel your performance is Rann is one of the best so far. Some of th critics ( masand) didnt liked the climax scene , but I think it was the best moments of the movie. Also, the scene when Jay dies and Purab comes to your house, and Yasmin is crying loudly , and we see tears in your eyes is just breath taking .
You always surpass your past perfomaces . Sir , You are tooooooo good..muhahahahah…

Amitabh ji,
Your latest movie Rann has been rated 4 stars. You are a legend and won lots of hearts for millions of people all over the world. All these stars are just to please the box office. You are a star who will always shine. May god always keep you hail and healthy. If ever god asks me one wish that would be to meet you and see your acting.

Dear Sir,
Congratulations on the rave reviews that your latest film ‘Rann’ is getting. I havent watched it yet but hopefully will soon.
I had to comment on an article i read in e-version of TOI titled ‘Big B teaches Vidhu Vinod to behave!’…It is nothing but an excerpt from one of your posts on your blog. I remember since i had read that post. What amazes me is that the e-media (and maybe the print media) has now taken to making headlines from your posts and quoting it on their websites. They do give you credit but it just seems silly reporting something on a news site which is a personal post on a blog!!

After targeting ordinary citizens of other states some petty politicians are now targeting celebrities and the richest indians. The threats and warnings are being issued to every law abiding citizen to toe the line of their self– appointed masters or face the consequences. The voice of the indian citizen is being gagged . The Fundamental Right of every citizen to freedom of expression is infringed– the elected rulers and the law of the land are helplessly watching the murder of democracy.
Dear sir

Dear Amit jee,
just watched Rann at Eros near Churchgate. Fantastic acting by you. More than that a taut script and editing with good direction by RGV.
Speech at the end reminded me of your Baaghban speech. You sound so genuine that it really inspires to believe in your character’s philosophy of being ultra honest in these times of short cuts. My only request – please choose similar powerful scripts to act. If Aamir Khan with lesser experience than you can choose better scripts, you can surely do that. Your acting is flawless but scripts must do justice to your talent. hope to see the same magic in Teen Patti.

vidya–on AB-I have seen him having a child-like excitement about work every single day. This is the reason why he has lasted for so many years. His greatness is coupled with a certain humility that sets him apart.”
Naseeruddin Shah: “He has led his life on his own terms and that reflects in his work. He is the best example of how talent prevails beyond anything else. I have learnt how as an actor one doesn’t need to follow conventions. He is awe-inspiring and I can hope to toe his line.”
Dear Sir,
Greetings….
I hope thats the right way to address the man who has earned the place of the most respected man in the country and even world wide. I would like to congratulate for your excellent work in the movie.
But after watching the movie i have many questions in my mind, the concept of the movie is great something untouched but still there are loopholes in the script but still the thought is great, at the end of the movie one thought came to my mind that is that everyone in this world has his own needs and desires to fulfill and its also right because if man doesn’t possess any desire than he doesn’t deserve to be called as man but at times for our own needs we forget the limits and the difference between the right and wrong just gets washed away.
With this small comment i would liket to mention onething that never blame the system that runs the country because we and our endless desire is the seed for the failure of the system and the society.
Lets change ourselves first then ask others because many times even we don’t let others know the truth.
U rock VIJAY BABU…, i can feel the intensity of VIJAY HARSHA VARDHAN’s feelings in the climax sequence.
i am yi=ou die hard fan.
Mile sur… no words to describe my feelings for this piece of music have been watching over & over on youtube over & vover . me sad without Jayaji in your arms…….

Mr. Vyas DevKishin
YOU ARE RIGHT ON ABOUT “mumbai for mumbaikars only”.
IN PURELY DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY LIKE INDIA, NOONE CAN DICTATE WHERE PEOPLE SHOULD LIVE. NOT ONE PERSON, NOT A PARTY, NOT A STATE. IT’S TOTALLY UNFAIR.
MORE SO WHEN WE TALK OF BEING A GLOBAL SOCIETY AND INDIA IS ON HIGH RADAR FOR ALL IMPORTS AND OUTSOURCING.
THIS DICTATORSHIP IS COMING FROM PEOPLE WHO KNOW NOTHING BETTER AND HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO. COURTS OR STATE GOVT CAN REACT WHEN THEY HAVE A CASE AND WITNESSES. NOONE COMES FORWARD TO REGISTER A CASE AGAINST THESE HIGH PROFILE “GUNDAS”.
THESE LITTLE PARTIES HAVE COME FAR AWAY FROM BASIC PRINCIPLES THAT THEY CLAIM TO GO BY. THEY GET POLICE PROTECTION TOO, DON’T KNOW, FOR WHAT?! THEY ARE THE ONES THAT DON’T RESPECT LAW IN THE FIRST PLACE.
REMEMBER THE SCENE WHEN MRS. BACHCHAN TALKED AGAINST IT AND MR. BACHCHAN HAD TO APOLOGIZE ON HER BEHALF? THAT WAS TOTALLY RIDICULOUS TOO.

hi amit Ji
I have been a ardent fan of you since i have started watching movies and i truly believe that there is no one who even comes close to you in acting. But i have one complaint against you. In your movies in the last decade you have hardly experimented with your looks like you have been doing with your roles. You generally have a french beard and that has become a trademark of you. You look amazing in that no doubt, but i am sure all your fans would love to see you in different looks, like Aamir khan keeps trying. I hope that you do some more experimenting in this.
Sir,
i just saw you on zoom tv revealing your views on media, media person and thoughts on life-struggle-never-ends.. and in few moments you were on times now with india 60 years republic.I have not seen many of your old films( i’m 19 years old) but definately many new ones.i like d way u dance, though they r nt teenager type.leme come to the point.on zoomtv ( bollywood face off:with Amitabh bachaan) when ,b4 winding up program,u were asked ‘bou ur views and advice to media…u knw i was expecting smthng different than u said..ur answrs wr “be kind to me” ..” standby wot u write ‘coz it cn change anybdy’s lyf ” ..i wonder y didnt u tell them to show truth on print n mobile media. U hv earnd d position whre atlest dey will hear u.i read yestrdy that ur new film ‘ rann’ ( i’m v sorrry if i’m mispellin it) is all ‘bou corruption in media then y didn’t u ask them( those ,who, wr tokin to u wr leading journalist) to learn frm ur movie n do their job in more honest way.u knw wot i feel is national leader misleading my india..its tym for media to tk charge n correct everythng.bt again i wonder ur bollywud is nt v clean place either.their also,i read often, blame game n attmpt to damag othr’s image, goes on… y dont goood ppl lyk u tk sm steps n do wotever is in ur heart n wot country needs.
i startd wid typing wrds fully bt i gues i slippd n wrote haf content in chat-language..sorry if it bother u.plz see if u cn do ny thng..

Good Evening Sir,
You have been exceptionally well in all your films,Well This is Rajeev and i must say I’ve been your fan through out my life i ve seen your every films atleast thrice, destiny took me abroad for my bread and butter. Can i ask since i’m currently in mumbai all i need is a autograph of your’s.
Regards,
Rajeev Kohli
Sir
I want to say that today what bal thakray said about SKH and he say some good word for you, he play divide and rule in bollywood industry, he not bother about common people , like today the rate of milk in mumbai hike , he not protest for that. why you people not protest for that together ,whole bollywood must together for that.
with respect
common man
Congratulations Mr. Bachchan! “Aapne Shaanti Nahi Maani!” – At the age 67 it is really great to see a young man making a difference every day, working as hard as any other young chap.. i am sure to look out for your performance on upcoming Rann.
People like you, your thoughts and actions, your reach to masses and media alike – let me ask you – what is your plan for the next 10 years? India knows the actor in you, we won’t see another Big B, but how do you plan to move on from here.
How about an academy of motion pictures and active of international quality – that will live for ages on..
How about “Amitabh Bachchan foundation’ – supporting selective causes – the like of what Mr. Bill Clinton is doing after his presidency, or Mr. Bill Gate is running with. There are so much causes in India worth fighting for – education, poverty, health-care – You have the power and energy to channel a huge mass behind each of these cause – most certainly you.
In a very polite manner, and please don’t get wrong – you are the defecto king of Bolloywood – but, the people would really like to see the Big B outside of movies. I don’t want Big B to be remembered just for movies.. You are much more more than that.
A struggling, hardly-established and insecure bollywood actor can not be asked for what I am. But only you can make bigger out of the Big-B you are. I will leave you with that thought here…
Congratulations on the new movie.
Wish you all the best.
Respected Amit Sir,
I was just watching Nokia Star Awards promo, found it very irritating and disturbing, why media has to play with the emotions of your family, why do they need to interfere with somebody’s personal life, what kind of pleasure do they get out of it, it looks so cheap. Anyway.
Sir, your family is as great as you. People understand you all, so please never worry.
One more thing, which is little personal, just as your die hard fan and also like your son, I’m sharing with you: your specs don’t look so good on you, if possible please go for some other one. In fact, one you had worne once while anchoring Bog Boss, that was quite fine. If you have to permit me, I’ll get the one for you, I’m placed very close to your home (Pratiksha)… but anyway, please don’t be upset, I’ll still love to see you with your current specs. Love and respect are never about all these things.
Take care of your health. My wishes to all at home.

Hi. How are you? It’s nice to read your blog. Keep on working on it. So, I drop EC for you. Don’t forget to Keep on Anlee.
Great news mann !
Just thought i would comment and say neat design, did you code it yourself? Looks great.
The things i have observed in terms of computer system memory is that there are specifications such as SDRAM, DDR and the like, that must match the specific features of the motherboard. If the personal computer’s motherboard is kind of current while there are no operating-system issues, changing the storage space literally requires under an hour. It’s one of several easiest laptop or computer upgrade methods one can envision. Thanks for giving your ideas.
