DAY 604

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

Posted on: December 16, 2009 - 11:36 pm

Prateeksha, Mumbai                          December  16,  2009                        Wed  10 : 37 PM

Time designated for rumination and reflection last night was consumed by the necessities  of slumber, it being the preferred choice after a long and ‘blue’ 3D experience.

‘Avatar’ started a bit late at the preview and it being a 2hr 40 min saga took time to finish. A spectacular visual treat of proportions never seen before, but after a while one missed the humans.

The messages of praise and exuberance keep pouring in for Paa and I continue to wonder how this ignored and ‘not given much chance of a film’ has reversed the expectations. People from all walks of life, young and old, from varied professions have all sent in but just one excited reaction.

It is a film that has not followed any given and tested pattern. It is a film that seems to be running on some divine intervention. Any other given trade norm has failed to explain the way it is behaving. And when an episode such as this occurs, one begins to tabulate why and how it occurred. Invariably all the arguments keep falling in line with faith and belief and divinity and fate. For, when there is insufficient answer, the human mind traverses areas which have reason and explanation only with the sub normal.

Perhaps we give far too much credit to the product. Perhaps we give far too much credit to the worth of the masses. Perhaps we give far too much credit to divinity itself !! But whatever the reason or credit, it has been an experience that has defied many.

On seeing the first copy of the film when it came out, I drove home with great apprehension on its worth. I confided in Balki my feelings. ” Do you think we have made a mistake with this film ?” I had asked. ” I feel we will not make it, I do not think it will work !”, had been my sms to him late into the night. And Balki in his usual calm self had remarked “We did what we had to do, now just leave it. I have a strong feel for this film, trust me Amit ji and go to sleep ” he had assured me.

What was it that gave him that sense of assurance - the progeria look, the single Mother angle, Auro’s friends, the effort of the child in uniting his parents, the wit and charm of Auro - or was there something more that none of us could see. Would the FmXt send in their opinion and analysis ? Or would it be better as a poll question. We haven’t done anything about it for a while, have we ? So the poll it shall be.

There is a thing about cleaning up. Cleaning up your cupboard, your work desk, areas ignored through constraints of time and many more. The act for some reason beams as a beacon almost. Symbolically one feels relieved of all the evil within that may have been cleaned up. A disorder restored. A lightness in the muddled head. Eyes wider open and the speech clearer controlled and less belligerent than before. One wishes that this state remain forever. It is a generous state. But it never does. One has to keep cleaning up all the time.

I cleaned up my place yesterday. Old documents, letters, work related communication now having no value, and with each object that went through the process, a lifetime of existence passed by. With each old association that you open, the desire to remain with it persists. You think back and remember, often with great fondness, those moments that gave rise to what you may now hold as remnants of the past. Fascinating !!

A few more lifetime achievement awards are on the anvil and people associated with it come by to insure that I shall attend and receive. It has become embarrassing for those that put up these events to witness absence of artists, absence of decorum and discipline and absence of any kind of order. A lot of this shall follow now with the year ending rewards to be picked up and functions being organized on a lavish scale . There shall be the usual speculation of who shall get what and why. Comparisons shall be made, speeches will follow along with heart burn and disappointment for those that shall miss recognition. Jubilation shall envelope those that win.

For me though … the expression of acceptance with my extended family shall be all that I shall strive for … and hope …

You are my best reward !! So help me God !!

Amitabh Bachchan

Mr. Bachchan at his best as Auro, The suprising part i did not feel that i am watching Mr. Bachchan on the screen ….no one can reconize him through out the movie, voice modulation, acting is superb. Abhishek was brilliant and Viday Balan as single has played her roles very well even i will say she is fantastic. Its a must must must watch for everyone.

back to ask- WHEN WILL YOU WRITE A BOOK?

  14. SALIL DALAL(TORONTO) says:

    Dear Bachchan Saab,

Now it looks so clear that your blog is turning into a ‘one way traffic’.
No response to the so called ‘Extended Family Members’.
If some one writes even a small negative article about you or your near ones then only you would react!
And react with all your might of words at your command.
While those who defy you, are rewarded with your detailed reply (in some cases REPLIES) the one who waits patiently is taken for granted and not responded.

My case is so disappointing that had it not been for some one as special as you, I would have stopped writing on (or even reading) your blog.
May be you are not arrogant. (See I still give benefit of doubt to my favorite hero!)
But you have an efficient office that sends you cuttings from the print media even when you are away in foreign country.
Then how is it that your instructions to me on blog (and my enquiry about the same) are not followed up when they are given as Reply by you?
A simple search for my name ‘Salil Dalal’ on your records would bring record of my REQUESTS on these pages.
Upon your reply that for my interview I should send my ‘request’ to your office I try every time I have a chance to post my comment within first 100 respondents.
Every time with my comment I give my email address (salil_hb@yahoo.co.in) and still no one sends me even the email address of your office where I can contact!
After reading about my so many ‘requests’ few of my readers have written to me, that I should not pursue this impossible task as I am not based in India now.
This is very frustrating experience for a serious writer on Hindi cinema who has written for Best and most popular Gujarati news papers like Sandesh, Gujarat Samachar and Divya Bhaskar.
I am still waiting….Is there light at the end of this tunnel?
(Hope it will not be, as they say, the light of an incoming train.)
    -SALIL

There are often moments in life that we as humans require reasoning, an explanation or justification or validation however no matter where or how deep we look nothing will fit to satisfy our question.

As Balkiji said, just leave it .. go to sleep .. Somethings in life can’t be answered .. somethings in life are just that .. life .. Valorie Adams .. life ..

    Love always,

    Manish Parmar, UK.

  21. Sujata says:

    Mr.Bachchan,
The reason behind the success of PAA is due to the story line, acting and above all the lovable AURO played by you, Mr.Bachchan. At your age playing the role of a young child is fasinating.

    Dear Amitji,

I am surprised that you thought Paa may have been a mistake after you saw the first screening. Paa is one of the most earnest, innocent & genuine films ever made. Auro who is loved so much in the film, had to be loved much more in reality ! You gave life to Auro… you were absolutely amazing in the film !

  31. VINOD says:

    dear sir,
congratulations on the success of paa, though it is of no surprise to me as i was confident on this , abhishek was great in the movie as a honest politician , vidya balan was good too, but you took the cake and ate it too ..paa is certainly one of your best performances , although i must say most of it was done once you had nailed the makeup department , in that context i feel agneepath and black were some notches higher in the acting dept.
but neverthless paa was a remarkable experience as a viewer . Pls keep these kinds of surprises coming.
    regards
    vinod

  33. Sheetal says:

    Respected Amitabhji
All talks are about Auro and Paa.Well it is a brilliant film no doubt and a must watch for all. After a very very long time one has seen such a brilliant film no fancy sets zazzy coutumes over acting just a plain and simple film.
Right from the start when Jayaji introduces all the characters till the end every moment is an experience.
One feels for this little boy Auro feels his pain his grief his happiness at small little things
More such meaningful films should be made.
A great job keep it going
    love
    Sheetal

  34. mitu says:

  37. Sangeetha says:

Dear Mr. B: Read your post today and noted your question, posed almost rhetorically, if there could be an analysis forthcoming from anyone on this forum - whether it could be divinity or some such paranormal source that may be responsible for inexplicable and resounding success of a project/movie such as “Paa” which can be termed as a freakish success, since it does not toe the line in terms of what works in formulaic terms in Hindi cinema.

Well, here’s a link to the site which you may find interesting, which seems to be a customized answer to your question. It takes a shot at answering, through the very articulate and eloquent Ms. Elizabeth Gilbert, whether genius and creativity is the msyterious visitation of divinity in human form, which happens from time-to-time and it is in these brief ephemeral moments that mere mortals such as us get a glimpse of God via human creativity.

    http://bipolarblast.wordpress.com/2009/02/10/elizabeth-gilbert-a-different-way-to-think-about-genius-and-creativity/

Please check out this link, and if you feel (like i did) that it does indeed provide a point of view to your question, or strikes a chord in you somewhere, then do let me know.

As usual, was very nice to read your post today. Posted a response to you on Day 602 as well, not sure you’ve seen it.

    Best regards and best wishes,
    sangeetha

  38. Satyam says:

    Bollybusiness update:

    http://bollybusiness.wordpress.com/2009/12/16/more-screenings-for-paa-in-third-week/

Paa has more screenings in third week in many places compared to second. Again as I’ve been saying for some days anyone can go to the Fame site or bookmyshow or any such multiplex site and verify things. I have my own Dhanbad (the place where Kaala Pathar is set) barometer — the film is doing the same number of shows at Fame here in week 3 as it was in week 2. I could point to many examples across the length and breadth of India but Dhanbad goes to show how well Paa is doing even in smaller centers.

The media is using terms like “thumping hit” and “big hit”. The 50 crore mark looks increasingly likely by the day. This is not a hit but much more than this.

The usual suspects in the trade and online will continue their own counter-narratives. Best of luck to them!

    Hi there,

First of all, I have to say that I have never loved you so much! I saw PAA a few days ago and I literally have no words to describe the emotion I felt while watching that film. From your appearance to your demeanor to your voice, it was just mindblowing. I actually forgot Amitabh Bachchan while watching the film and that is truly a testament to your talent as an actor. My heart filled with joy watching you dance around in the film and my eyes filled with tears watching you suffer at the end. But that compassion wasnt directed toward Amitabh Bachchan it was directed to AURO. The emotion you captured throughout the whole film is indescribable and as a mere student I wont even attempt to capture it in words. I really do not have enough words to do justice to you talent. I want to say that the worth of an actor is not determined by the commercial success of a film but is instead dictated by their dedication to their craft and their ability to affect the lives of others through their work and you have proved time and again how worthy you are! You have touched, inspired, and changed the lives of millions through this and many other performances. I am so proud to call myself your fan and will do so forever!

    Love, love, love you!

Second of all, I just want to say OMG!!! I can’t believe that you responded to me on day 587!! You don’t know how excited, exhilarated, thrilled I was when I saw that yellow line under my comment, especially since it was like comment 93. But unfortunately that one comment won’t be enough for this gluttonous fan! So I am still going to post this group until you click on it and contact me through any medium so I can talk to you personally!!

So here is the link, I hope you’ll take 2 minutes out of your busy day to look at it!

    http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=174943739550&ref=ts
I was also wondering how/why are you so gorgeous? I am asking this in all seriousness because sometimes when I watch your interviews or your films I think to myself that how unfair it is that I will never get to meet a man who is so gorgeous that he puts thousands of men to shame!!

I’m not sure if you YouTube yourself regularly or at all for that matter, but there was snippet of an interview of yours that was posted a few months back. I’m not sure what station the interview was conducted on or who conducted it, all I know is that it was done in July of 1984. As many people know you didnt give many (or any?) interviews in your earlier career b/c of the press ban. I believe it wasnt ’till the late ’80s or ’90s that you started giving interviews, so this interview that was posted was such a treat! While watching the interview I literally fell short of breath!! Although you do many interviews now and while you are extremely attractive now back then you were just mindbogglingly and mindblowingly sexy/gorgeous/handsome!! I was telling my sister that I wished that I could just jump in the TV and land next to you! Also, a lot of people have rare footage of you that they post on YouTube and because many of the interview are from before I was born it’s an incredible experience to watch them now! Its really exciting for me even though they are like 20-25 yrs!

Ok well I hope you look at my group!! http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=174943739550&ref=ts

Abhi was mindblowing, Vidya was stupendous, Arundhati Nag(auro’s bum) was superb, Pareshji was good, Kids were excellent and the direction by Balki was marvellous.

    My dearest dear Mr. Bachchan,

You always do this to me and leave me speechless and short of words to express what I feel as I read through your words.
Thank you for your endearing last words to your FmXt…that is so sweet from you and be sure that we think the same way and believe that you are and this connection we are having with you is God’s gift for us and we do value it.

Your apprehensions about PAA, especially that it is a kind of a new and challenging experience, is very much understandable. But I think it is normal for human beings to experience these apprehensive feelings when they are about to go through or start a new project. And many times our feelings are proven wrong. When we think something must work well and rock the world it ends up with frustration and disappointment. And when we are not really sure about it it takes us to higher states of ecstasy and elation by its unexpected wonderful results and success.

Iam happy PAA has proven your feelings of doubt and apprehension wrong and that it ended up as a huge hit and getting massive and great recognition from everywhere, everyone and all walks of life. In Egypt there is a saying which means that what you fear the most is usually the best thing ever.

i missed your Poll questions and would love to see a new one, so thank you for considering a question for the poll today..
    I loved reading your post…as always. :)
But iam at work now and unable to write more…
Will hopefully come back to you when in the confines of the solitude of home..

    Till then..

    My everlasting love to you…

    My dearest Amithji,

How are you & where are you?

I thought one early post last night will be followed by another early post today! But no such luck!

So, Amithji, how are you celebrating PAA’s success.:) :) Please tell us.:)
Do not worry too much about RANN & TEEN PATTI. It will definitely work out well. Now it is time to reap the rewards of your hardwork without worrying about future. But, being the kind of man you are, you will never relax. you have attained the freedom to live the relaxed lifestyle of your choice , with a sense of satisfaction at what you have accomplished. So just lay back, & continue to savour the success of PAA. You have definitely earned it!!!
We as happy as you are, about the success of PAA.
So give us a chance to celebrate, by spreading some sunshine amongst the FmXt, meaning , yellow strips!!!!!!:) :)

It’s ages since any of us received reply from you.

In BB house, vindu & poonam are demeaning Bhaktiyaar soooo much, this must be their tactic to make the audience see them in a positive way. But I think it is not working out. As for me, whatever happens, Vindu should not win! If Vindu goes out this friday, I have promised my daughter that I’ll take her out for dinner.;)

My gut feeling says that Aditi will win this game. Hmmmmm…..lets wait & see.

    Bye for now,
    my love to you always,

  50. Satyam says:

On your Paa apprehensions allow me to be a little smug here. As you know I have often been rather candid (perhaps too much so) when it comes to not just your films but also the box office prospects. I think I was rather blunt about Aladin too at one point. On Paa I too had apprehensions but these were instantly cleared the moment I saw the first preview. This is part of a longer response that I left on #562 I believe when I first commented after seeing the first trailer:

“I also believe now that the film will be a very significant success and beyond this a work that transcends these matters. A special film in the truest sense. A very heart congrats to you and everyone concerned for this achievement and I think only better things will follow in this sense from here on.”

Again, I too was apprehensive but the publicity campaign erased any such doubts about how well the film would be advertised. The initial posters gave me a very good feeling and the first preview completely convinced me. Also said in that very same response that the trailer would create waves.

I don’t blame you for having those apprehensions though since when you’re in the thick of it it’s very hard to be completely objective and have that bird’s eye view. Incidentally some of the numbers and reports that have come in since have only confirmed my sense of the film over the first weekend (box office). I don’t at all mean to sound pompous or self-congratulatory in any sense and do apologize if I give that impression. I just take a certain pride in calling out Indian commercial films. There are times when one is less sure than at others but Paa wasn’t one of those the moment I saw that first preview. But you are indeed right. This film is doing extraordinary things in every corner of India. The naysayers of course have huge issues because they never ever in a million years expected this! The thing is that when one attempts the different this is automatically more risky. often these films don’t work. One can be unfairly maligned for this but when everything does come together for such a film it is truly a very special combination. A perfect ’storm’ of critical and commercial success. Abhishek has follow this riskier path at the peak of his career and for all his admirable sincerity in this regard has probably made it easier for his critics to attack him every time he has failure in any sense. But as I keep telling everyone I argue with on this matter. When he gets it right it’s a Guru. So don’t bet against him! Don’t bet against the Bachchan equanimity and nerve, whether it’s father or son! The ability to absorb punches is not an ordinary one in life. Both you and Abhishek have this strength. I might often disagree with your strategy or his at some levels but I would never question either one of you on this score.

But let’s not be too positive here. I must say I am NOT pleased with Abhishek’s decision to do this TV show. He might make a great success out of it (I hope he doesn’t make my eat my words on this score like you usually do) but at the peak of his career and at his age with so many interesting film projects I don’t see why this is necessary. Yes there is an increasing ‘bleed’ between cinema and TV in today’s times but I continue to believe that TV ‘normalizes’ the star. I know it increases a star’s ‘connection’ with an audience sometimes, it can increase market penetration in some ways but nonetheless I am a naysayer here. I’d be glad to be proven wrong on this. The website is funky though.

    Dear Sir,
Many Congratulations for the star studded, gala premier. And Lifetime Achievement Award in Dubai !!

The whole film fraternity ,and stalwarts from all walks of life- assembled together- at your invitation– under one roof- - to witness and be a part of this mega work of art- -was a rarest of rare occasion .

Truly a Himalayan task ! And who else but you, could accomplish this. Media has rightly dubbed it as ‘‘the biggest premier ever’’.

The very presence of them around you must have been so very enriching and humbling experience for you and your family.

Life bestows such honor to only a chosen few….. you certainly are one of them… always will be…

This work of art, named Paa,is going to be synonymous with what acting is all about. No discussion, symposium, research on films and acting will ever be complete without the mention of Amitabh Bachchan and this film.

I am sure every viewer must’ve gone home feeling truly blessed and fortunate to be able to watch this magnificent – NEVER BEFORE—NEVER AGAIN—kind of motion picture.

With regards, and good wishes for a healthy n happy future –

  53. rupa jha says:

    Dear Sir
We would have stopped watching BB3 long back, were not associated with it.

We know you couldn’t have watched BB3 on a regular basis for paucity of time ,other pressing engagements, approaching deadlines, etc. etc. otherwise you too would’ve found certain things objectionable and little suspicious.

Why was Kamal Khan, of all the people, called back ,in spite of being blacklisted once ?? He wasn’t even a popular figure either with public or contestants .
Why was he given royal treatment day after day? He’d get imported bottled water, imported canned milk, imported fruits, dry fruits, chocklets and other goodies.every day.
He used to collects his special meals from the store room—which consisted of non-veg dishes!!

He would show off and tease others and enjoy all this all alone, while others look on greedily…..
That ‘topple the govt.’ game was devised in such a manner that Kamal wins and given ‘immunity’ to justify his stay.
We know he is given the status of GUEST …….. but WHY….?? On every nomination day contestants are told not to name him on some or the pretext…../WHY..??
Is this show a 5star motel for Kamal ?

The serial makers may twist their rules in Kamal’s favour so that it appears to be a part of game….to justify their acts…… but certain things are too obvious to ignore….

Either Kamal has ‘BOUGHT’ his re-entry or may be his Dubai connections are pulling up the strings…
There can be no sensible logic behind this special treatment meted out to Kamal…

And the latest…..He now decides to fall sick….!! All this while choosing the best camera angles !!
Now serial makers have devised a new game plan to pamper kamal’s xl size ego…..They had made him BiggBoss within the house…….. where he wouldn’t do any household chores while others slogged— he’d just bosses around—bully them—order out punishments…..
And on Thursday—he was given a special sendoff by the serial makers—–Fireworks designed to bid him farewell —-igniting his name in the air-!!!!!
There certainly is some malpractice and tampering with votes going on,,,,

Serial makers make you ask the contestants whether their acts are ‘’scripted’’or not.
What do they have to say about their own acts ?? Is it not scripted from Dubai for the benefit of Kamal ????

    Hello Sir,

I am no trade expert. However I feel PAA worked because of its innocence. The purity with which the film was made. It has the ingredients for every in the age group of 6 to 60. On top of that it was very contemporary and highlighted many burning issues in its own subtle way. personally what worked for me was the emotional quotient and the climax in which Auro passes away and his last word is PAA. The pain of not having the love of a father right throughout his ’short life’ is very efficiently portrayed.

The best part of the film is one never realizes that this is a Amitabh Bachchan starrer right till the very end :-)

    My dearest Mr Bachchan,

Connecting with us should always be a secondary consideration to slumber, so we are delighted that you made the right decision yesterday and another relatively early night pleases me immensely today!
I confess I giggled while reading your Avatar review. Evidently you enjoyed the lack of substance as much as I would ‘not’ - your use of the word ‘saga’ is a dead giveaway - and yes humans are always preferable to otherworldly critters!!

Just returning from the cruel snowy weather and my afternoon of festivity, so I will return after thawing myself out very shortly I have plenty to say about your early pessimism regarding Paa, but wanted to wish you a very goodnight and sweet dreams for the moment.

My love and acceptance of course,

I was getting dressed and ready for my stint as an extra in ‘The Good Wife’ and now just in time I see your new post.

I could tell by the trailer that the visual effects would be great for ‘Avatar’ but I think I too would miss the humans. I can undestand why you would pick sleep after that long night. I’m glad you got some rest.

Maybe you cannot analyze everything. Maybe all those factors you mention ad up to more than the sum of its parts for the success of ‘PAA’. Your intitial pessimism which showed itself on the blog for a couple of days has thankfully been proved wrong. And I’m so glad Balki was right. And the credit for the charm of Auro goes to your brilliant performance.

I know the feeling of trying to clean up and get rid of things. Every time I try to convince myself that I can throw something away, there is always at least one good reason I can come up with for keeping it. Then I tell myself, I can always throw it out and my cats actually enjoy my clutter.

I think you should make more room on that anvil for yet additional awards for ‘PAA’!

I have to leave to do my extra work. Out of curiosity I watched last night’s show and one of the guests was the lead actress in the movie I worked in this past weekend. I could not believe the amount of commercials I had to fast forward through. I almost never watch commercial TV.

You will always be accepted and cherished by us.

I really enjoyed Paa and definitely felt it was one of the best films, not only of the year but of the decade (and I am sure as time goes on, of all-time). You are amazing..I just thought about what you had written today..Its amazing that after 40 years in this industry you still find it difficult to pin point what will work and what will not..I guess that is how the industry is and people who say they know how to milk it are just fibbing..there is no excat science and with all these years of experience behined you it still becomes very difficult to know what will work..Like i saw Acid Factory last week it was a very decent movie (I guess too Hollywoodish) so it did not work but it was really good to watch…So for PAA will you be nominated for the best actor or the best child star of the year.. :)As for being accepted by your FMXT we do that whole heartedly.. We have already given you the award for best actor this year..

    Dear Amitji,

Being your own company’s production, it is understandable that you would be anxious and concerned about Paa’s success but I’m glad that you followed Balki’s strong feelings and continued with its making/release. I think its an amalgamation of all the factors you pointed out that made the film a huge success. It was a very heart warming and touching movie.

“A few more lifetime achievement awards are on the anvil ” - thats excellent news although to me you’re still in your prime and have lots of movies to make and enjoy. It feels strange to give such an award when you are still accomplishing more and more everyday.

Thank you Mr Bachchan for saying that the FmXT is your best reward. We will always be here with you.

Abhishek acts so rude these days in the interviews , he thinks he made it on his own , people who know him laugh .. as they know after 40 flops even a non actor can start moving his eyes and lips . its the bachchan tag that gave him 40 flop opportunities. Aishwarya - fake ! .. I have met 10 people and 9 out of them classify her as fake. This medium was for personal chat. but even you fell into the trap of marketing. … What I am most amazed is that the same media that you have been bashing for so many days .. now you and your son .. used it to promote PAA .. is there a better definition for Hypocrite !

The levels on which PAA resonated and continues to do so will probabaly be for sometime as people discover, think about ,and then rediscover, all attached by a tensile thread to the vast network of emotions we all possess. Not too imagine down the road whether all will be as vapor..it is not to be..this one is a benchmark..raising the bar if you will..for those who desire to take on their own project. Let them be required to show the same passion and work to bring out the best as artists. Your friend Balki has wisdom in that matter for we do not all think alike maybe next time it will be your turn

    Why paa worked?

    1. I do not see Amitabh Bachchan - the voice, the height!
    2. Unusual casting - father, son - son, father
    3. Celebration of life - Auro’s repartees!
    4. Background music
    5. All actors fit the role and lastly,

    6. The director makes it work

    Amitji,

I guess where PAA works, is that it doesnt show AURO as a depressed or really ill individual, which is what most movies show when they take a main lead with an illness or disorder, PAA shows Auro, as an ordinary person having fun, I guess this is where the audience young and old can relate to him..this is why the monkey dance has created a craze, I wish you, Abhishek and Balki continue to do movie that are different from the norm and regular stuff..PAA truly stands out in that department..PAA has gone on to be a MASSIVE BLOCKBUSTER…cant wait to see how big it can continue to get.

AAVATAR is meant to be a massive hit, shame you didnt enjoy it that much..

  108. Lakshmi Jag says:

    Dear Mr. Bachchan

As you asked for an analysis, here it comes…..:) Have you ever noticed parched land soak up water? That is what it is, audience starved for a good movie are soaking it up. Probably actors when they get the run of the mill characters fail to put in more effort and perform what comes naturally, and when a special role comes along, with a different story which is more with the times, it perks up the interest of the cast and crew along with the audience. Along with interest comes special effort and with special effort comes success as both the audience and divinity are happy with the special effort. I think I have said enough and thank you for helping me decide what movie I should go to during the Christmas break. Take care and top of the morning to you if you are reading it in the morning and if you are still awake, wishing you a good night.

    Lakshmi

  109. Daisy M says:

    Dearest Mr Bachchan

Yes, PAA was a huge risk, and described in the simplest terms - being the story of a child suffering from a very grave genetic disorder who is going to die - could have been a film that caused audiences to stay away in droves.

So it does indeed feel like a most joyful miracle that it has confounded all expectations and been so astounding successful on all levels - hugely critically acclaimed, a massive box office success AND utterly beloved by audiences.

I think there are many explanations. The most important and utterly fundamental one is that both you and the film are so astoundingly good. But we all know that many brilliant and inspired films have been horribly neglected and rejected, certainly in terms of their initial box office verdict, while other movies that are truly appalling have been massive hits.

So why has excellence been rewarded in this case? I think the simplest - and strongest - reason is that it touches people’s hearts. People’s emotions after seeing the film are so passionate and fervent - they literally fall in love with the film and with Auro.

This has been a huge asset in building audiences, as people feel almost evangelical about recommending it to their friends. I’m convinced that’s why the box office has grown and grown - good old fashioned word of mouth (speeded by all forms of internet connectivity).

But the foundation for this box office success was threefold. Firstly, a brilliant marketing and publicity campaign. Secondly, the media most unexpectedly and uncharacteristically embracing the film whole heartedly and giving it abundant and overwhelming positive publicity. Thirdly, of course, your unstinting efforts to promote the film by every means possible, including some wildly original schemes dreamed up by the ever-ingenious Balki.

But we all know that a film can be hyped terribly, and that people will soon stay away from a film if their friends have been disappointed. With PAA the reverse was true…. all the glowing reports started to reassure people that this WAS a fantastically enjoyable film and not some gruelling ‘disease of the month’ sob story (even though the tears did flow at the end).

So what made the film such a creative triumph? I think we’ve all tried here on this Blog to explain just WHY we enjoyed the film so much… and that’s the hardest part of the film’s success to put into words. It’s like love… you know it when you feel it.. but how do you pin it down?

I think it is possible to identify some of the film’s greatest strengths… and one of them is precisely because it IS so different from the usual formula. That could have scared people off, but instead became a huge selling point. The father and son reversal was a delightful angle of course. And the extraordinary technical achievements of the prosthetics naturally attracted attention. But the extraordinary make-up only worked because it was used to create such an extraordinarily delightful and unforgettable and ultimately heartbreaking character.

That in the end is always what makes a great film - STORY and CHARACTER. And PAA has a story which feels fresh, totally convincing and modern… and yet at heart is about our need for family, for love, for friendship and for a feeling of belonging… something which everyone in the audience can identify with. And above all it has a set of characters who all seem utterly real, with endearingly normal human qualities…. and such endearing ones too…. warm, humorous, cunning, witty, brave, generous, resourcesful, intelligent, loving, sometimes flawed, vulnerable, stubborn, and so on and so much more… but always holding our interest and our sympathy and so often making us dissolve in laughter too.

But ALL that still doesn’t begin to explain the film’s success - the one factor great than everything that has gone before is quite simply your performance. It is what has got everyone talking, admiring, marvelling, and quite simply realising this is an unmissable experience It is something which defies description, and yet the film is completely impossible to imagine without your genius as Auro.

It helps that Balki created such an irresistible character, gave him such wit and sparky intelligence, and such a wealth of loveable qualities… so endearingly childlike in the best sense - open, direct, brave, innocent, able to say what felt and thought without inhibition … and yet with a delightful cunning, a wisdom and insight way beyond his tender years, some sorrows and vulnerabilities and a growing ability to influence the behaviour and emotions of the adults he loved so dearly.

I could just rhapsodise about the characterisation all night, but how you brought Auro to life is beyond all understanding and that will always remain the most potent force that will make PAA such a unique and beloved phenomenon.

I haven’t said half the things I intended, especially about your performance, but have already hogged far too many Blog inches, so will just bid you the fondest good night.

    With all my love, Daisy

  113. Devkishin says:

”paa” succeeded because it had a substance–a soul.
Some of your films might not have faired well at the box office due to various reasons but ”paa” was different.

The film goers were curious to see you in a role of a 13 year old boy.
The promos were properly and carefully designed and they created lot of excitement–like auro’s monkey dance or saying ‘paa’ in a childlike manner and then a ‘ha ha’.these new things generated lot of excitement.

If this was just a Trailer the public expected much more in the film.

The musical score by Ilaiyaraaja blended well with the narration .
The script had many touching moments of all shades which sustained the interest of the viewers.
The direction of balki was smooth without any unnecessary dramatisation.
All the supporting actors performed brilliantly in their respective roles .

Jaya Bachchan’s introduction of cast and credits was lively.

All in all the flawless narration of a simple but off beat story starring one of the top multifaceted stars left deep impression on minds of the viewers.

    Hi Sir,

Was not able to connect yesterday and that feeling that rushes you when you miss out a post (which you have been very great at not doing) is being experienced on this side this time. The great appreciation of PAA that still keeps pouring in is fantastic and will probably keep happening until each and every indian cinema viewer has seen the film. Moving on is hard especially after such success and praise, but the success and appreciation of all those that sent out their heartfelt emotions shall remain. The future shall bring more of such occurrences. The awards that are around the corner which recognize diverse talents are probably equally awaited for the masses that watch as they are for those who attend them. For us the best award is to see our favourite give us films in which we are taken away by the performance over and over again.

    Regards and Love,

  126. Brenda says:

    Dear Amitji,

Though I haven’t had chance to see ‘PAA’ yet, hope to do so when released on dvd. I’m thrilled reading the wonderful success of your film.. This is only due to your brilliant talent and performance that would have brought young AURO alive and stolen the hearts of the nation. May the blessings continue!

I’m so pleased Balki had the calmness and quiet confidence to your pessimism of the film. I think you both complement each other so well and that is why you flourished.

Clearing out your place must have been heartbreaking, part of your life is thrown away in old letters or documents, I’m a bit of a hoarder myself, never throw anything away if I can help it, I keep saying better to build an extension or live in the shed, do you fancy that idea, Amitji?!

That’s exciting news “A few more lifetime achievement awards are on the anvil ” But you still have a lifetime of films to make and years off from calling it a day, maybe never. Perhaps it can be renamed by another title instead of the present one.

My joy is to know you are well and at peace everyday, please don’t overwork but take care.

    With love & prayers,
    Brenda

  127. Nandita says:

    Dear Mr Bachchan,

Paa continues to be hailed a huge success and for that many congratulations to you.

You have been clearing your drawers? I think it is a good idea. In the past I have desperately tried to get rid of old papers but somehow this never happened. You know nowadays it is never safe to leave anything lying around. I have even heard that there are those with evil intentions that steal the identity of others. It reminds me of this story about this woman who gave up her own identity and remained with her friend can’t remember the name of the book but it is a lovely story. I wish you many awards and rewards for PAA. An exceptional film.

    Best wishes and love from
    Nandita

  128. Tej says:

To me…Illaya raja’s music, the visual angles ,the sentimental angle and the fact that the original Amitabh Bachchan did not make a appearence and did not die in the end seem to have worked very well for the film..Kudos to the director here for handling your persona in a bold and different dimension here wiht out your normal a bit now steriotypical ( yes a bit, as the roles have dried up for the real talent) elf…A low budget high velocity theme with excellent performances and brilliant promotion.I honestly thought that it will be a slow starter and either it will vanish without a whimper (as it was a bold experiment) or slowly gets into the stream and steadily climbs the charts. The music plays a role here even though the story is off-beat. Abhishek has indeed matured and he is slowly carving a niche for himself along side your towering shadow .

  129. Jasmine of London says:

    My dearest Mr Bachchan,

I used the biblical phrase ‘Ye of little faith’ in reference to your somewhat endearing measure of pessimism in yesterdays comment and today your anecdote about the sms to Balki evokes a similar thought! But of course trepidation would be natural, Paa was an audacious project from all the angles you suggest; in turn, its success owes to the right balance between risky innovation and a tasteful, inoffensive handling of the issues the film presents.

Creativity and art of any kind surely does not depend on logic and business strategy alone; so there is something of a spiritual stimulus involved. The viewer seeks a unique and memorable storyline that will draw them in so intensely that an empathetic bond with the characters, like Auro would be unavoidable. The audience is eager to have those deep emotions which often lie dormant in the depths of our psyche, stimulated and brought to the surface for release; and it is certainly a ‘divine gift’ if one can connect with other peoples emotions and achieve that through an artistic medium.
Balki actually took a leap of faith in writing and tailoring a storyline especially for you from the vision he had for the project. He obviously had a strong conviction in your capabilities as a actor to achieve, as well as his gut feeling that the entire project would succeed. A tried and tested ‘prototype’ is often not required for creative endeavours, its too inhibiting I would imagine, freedom to bend the rules is prerequisite if you are in the business of raising benchmarks - as you are!

But ultimately faith, gut feelings, divinity and the like are immobile without extreme hard work and dedication. The synthesis of wonderful talent and creativity required to bring it all to fruition was your team, who clearly poured heart and soul into Paa, the evidence of which would be rewarded with this extreme praise.

I really believe you are being too analytical about this. I understand the desire to identify the winning formulae so that perhaps it could be implemented in the future; but each project would have its own fate. As difficult as it may be, perhaps you should just take a bow Auro, accept that you are loved and keep accepting the accolade!
It is impossible for me to analyse something I loved and enjoyed wholly; so a poll vote is welcome - even if I am a tad concerned about the cute little conversation you have conducted with yourself - questions and answers included - to reach this conclusion!

Warmest congratulations on the pending Lifetime achievement awards. I am pleased you have the functions and ceremonies to attend, it’s the perfect way to unwind and celebrate a year of tremendous hard work. You do not ‘live the life’ as you could do at this stage in your career Mr Bachchan - indeed you deserve to be lavished. The thought crossed my mind this evening, that the industry needs to invent a different award system for you, the man with a million lifetimes already! No piece of elaborately carved plastic or metal can be a sufficient symbolism of your talent or worth in the industry and the love your public has for you. You have been deemed an ‘international treasure’ on many occasions for your professional prowess; yet I would venture further to suggest that you are simply a priceless treasure for all the characteristics you possess. The little four letter word love encompasses a lot - approval and belief are certainly included!

Hope you do enjoy a blissful slumber, you have lots to catch up on from the past couple of months, and I will return in the morrow. Goodnight dearest and treasured Mr Bachchan.

All my love and ultimate acceptance,

    Jasmine
    xx

    Amit ji,
YOUR LAST TWO SENTENCES MEAN SO MUCH TO ALL YOUR “EF”. YOU HOLD US ALL IN SUCH HIGH REGARD AND YOU MEAN THE WORLD TO US.

WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT “PAA” IS THAT IT IS AN “AMITABH BACHCHAN” MOVIE BUT VISUALLY WE DO NOT SEE THAT FAMILIAR FACE WHICH WE HAVE BEEN WATCHING FOR YEARS. THE ONLY WAY THIS MOVIE COULD HAVE WORKED IS BY HAVING A VERY STRONG CHARACTER WHO PLAYS THE PROTAGANIST. BALKI HAS DID THIS BY CREATING “AURO” CHARACTER AND HE HAS SUCCEEDED. YOU HAVE PLAYED THIS ROLE VERY WELL, PERSONALLY MOST OF THE TIME WHILST I WAS WATCHING THE FILM I FORGOT THAT YOU WERE IN IT, THIS IS ACTING AT ITS BEST!!!!!!!

    SLEEP WELL

    LOTS OF LOVE (as always)

  133. Jasmine Jaywant says:

Amitji, nice to see a relaxed, leisurely post. From your description of your reaction after seeing PAA and your sms to Balki, it seems what you got at that moment was — cold feet. Normal. You are wondering at the success of the movie and asking us to analyze the reasons — you mean apart from what we’ve been saying on this forum for the past 10 days? :)

Pages and pages can be (and have been) written to analyze the success of the film. I reiterate my original assertion — PAA is a really good, engrossing, uplifting story told with simplicity, compassion, and humor. It has that special something that Devkishinji has called a soul, and I think it is a very apt summation. The characters are well-developed, all the actors have created their characters with utmost conviction and naturalness, it is visually pleasing, and has soulful melodies and an equally soulful background score.

Most of all — it has the supremo — it has YOU to interpret Auro and bring the character to life in all his innocence and normalcy and naughtiness. Auro enters straight into the hearts of the audience, and he does it without sentimentality.

PAA is a unique concept in cinema. The boldness of the concept and the sincerity and sensitivity of the execution have paid off — literally and metaphorically. I do not think it is fate or divine intervention at all. I have a very strong faith in God, but in this instance, I feel the effort and the execution are totally human.

Just sit back and enjoy the success of this marvellous piece of work.

And thank you for saying that we the FmXt are your best reward. Very sweet of you.

    My love and regards, always,

    Jasmine Jaywant

  134. Shavez Rizvi says:

    Hello Sir,

Congratulations in Advance for grabbing all the awards for Best Actor This Year Sir. Please reply back to me regarding my questions. Stay Healthy and fit so that we can get something like Paa again. For an Idea, how about the Journey of Auro to Heaven and his life and family there! It could be a very nice sequel to show that such children though deprived here in this world get every bit of love for ages to come hereafter.

Please suggest Mr. Balki for it!!!!!

I met you on 13th December at J W Marriott Hotel in Juhu as a winner of the Idea Contest. I asked you about Shri Harivanshraiji Bachchan yesterday which you answered for quite some time. I would like to tell you that I was pretty nervous of the fact that I actually have you in front of me and that we are talking to each other. I am sure you would remember me as of now. However, I am from Panvel which is roughly 50 - 60 kms from Mumbai. You always come this way and parts of Sholay have also been done here. But you have never graced the city all by yourself.

I want a promise from you being your fan. I know I am a very small person to ask this and I wanted to tell you three more things yesterday.
    1. I want to see your house and your way of life.
    2. My mom born on 17th September 1944 and dad born on 12th April 1944 who are approximately same age as yours and got married approximately the same time as your marriage i.e. on 15th Oct 1971 are called as Amitabh and Jaya ki Jodi because of the fact that they resemble you so much. here was this incident in 1972 that I wanted to tell you a bout when they were strolling at Juhu beach along with a few people in the evening and people thought that it is you and Jayaji. These people really started calling your names and ran after them to find they were not their idols. They are of very old age now and even they wanted to come along with me to meet you but Idea did not permit because of security reasons. Being a good son like you I want to fulfill their wish. Please help me achieve that anyway as I want to be at least a good son like you have been. I would like to request you to come to my marriage next year to give me your blessings and meet them if you are in India and see for yourself whether you resemble them or not. I will personally come to give you the invitation if you promise me that.
    3. I am a very big fan and follower of the ideals of your father. I want you to give me the latest copy of Shri Harivanshrai Bachchanji’s book Madhushala which you revealed on his 102nd birth anniversary with your and Jayaji’s Autograph. I wanted to say this at that time but I could not. By the way I remember the whole poem Need ka Nirman Phir phir that I asked you to recite at the Idea Function and I really wanted to recite it for you.

Please my jeanie fulfill these three wishes of mine. Call me if you can.

I love you a lot. May God bless you and give you a very very long life so that we get to see innovative movies such as Paa which gives a message to everyone. May you become a grandfather soon. It was an honor to ask you the questions and be with you. It will be cherished forever in my life.

    Dearest Mr B,
You gave out the story line of Paa.. I haven’t yet had the opportunity to go watch this movie on the big screen due to some constraints. But I will definitely be going this sunday..
A question about Bigg Boss 3.. Is it really a scripted show.. I know You asked Raju & he said NO.. but have been reading in some forums that it is true.. & that Bhaktiyar is blackmailing BB3 and thats why he has bee promised to stay on for the finals.. That Aditi is being evicted this week, Vindu gets the car & the Bade Dilwala Award.. & Poonam wins the BB3 !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please say its not all pre planned! I rush home every single day just to watch this show!! Would be extremely disappointed if this was all stage managed shows put up & not their real selves!!
Anyways, Hope you are doing great & the promotions of Teen Patti & Rann are getting ready.. Look fwd to all these & most importantly to watch Paa this sunday..
All my love as always, Archana Detroit.

    Dear Amitji,

Credit for the stunning success of Paa in my view, goes to the entire unit, each one of whom did his or her best, and, of course, to Him without whose blessings nothing works. I believe your modesty must be coming in your way to share with us the feedback you are receiving on the commercial success of the movie. We, therefore, have to depend on the media for our own feedback, and here is what I gather from the Google alert :

BO: Paa approaching 50 crores off boost in single screens in weekend
    Tuesday, December 15, 2009

The film that is following the pattern of Chak De India and doing so without tax exemption support so far is Paa, which too had a slow opening but is on what can only be described as a steady yet decisive roll. Steady because the film’s collections are not showing the usual rate of drop in India. And decisive because though the film is being described as a multiplex success in the usual trade segments, it in fact on its weekend 2 recorded housefull (ie 100% of capacity) shows in ’single screens’ in the ending night shows spanning single screens from Mumbai to Kolkatta. To give some examples of single screens that recorded 100% occupancy for Paa on 2nd Sunday, it was Roxy theater in Mumbai that had Paa sold out for its 2nd sunday. Central Plaza was another single screener in Mumbai Sunday which did 100% business on Paa. In Calcutta, Priya cinema and Navina were sold out. Tickets were selling in black after a long time at the New Empire, another massive single screen cinema hall.

Behaviorally, what is happening with the film is the advance remains modest, until screenings begin and consistently sizeable turnouts are showing up, many repeating. Moreover the box office crowds are consisting of large individual group sizes. While the weekdays are good and steady, the weekends are seeing spectacular turnouts despite less-than-record screenings so far which means the working middle class has taken to the film in a big way.

In figure terms, Paa recorded one of the highest 2nd weekends in recent times, recording around 8 crores. Its weekend 2 occupancies were similar to weekend 1 but collections were somewhat less than weekend 1 because screenings were cut to allocate Rocket Singh and an English release. Still many theaters (ex. Fame Kanivili) managed to record similar collections in weekend 2 compared to weekend 1 despite reduced shows which is highly uncommon. The film is crossing 30 crores net and approaching 40 with weekend 3. And even that may not be end of its run.

In short, as the exhibitor at Sterling cinema in Mumbai puts it after their weekend 2’s last show lasting into 1AM Monday morning recorded 90% of capacity, Paa has emerged a “huge hit” at the Indian box office.

Amitabh Bachchan will next be seen in Rann and Teen Patti. The former on the media may have limited release, the latter is more interesting at the box office with Bachchan as a Probability professor who’s a gambler.

After Paa, Vidya Balan now has arguably one of the highest success rates of any heroine, ahead of Rani Mukherji, Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor, Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta, Bipasha Basu etc. Her hits now include Paa, Bhool Bhulaiya, Guru, Lage Raho Munnabhai, and Parineeta. Kismet Konnection did average business also.

  141. Rajesh (Bucks, UK) says:

I saw the trailer of AVATAR when we went to see PAA and I knew then that this movie without ‘proper’ humans was not for me despite it’s technologically advance graphics and so forth and there in itself lies one answer for PAA’s success. I still believe the audience prefer good simple stories with value and substance over the usual theme of fear that most movies portray. The escapist cinema is for ‘time pass” and movies like PAA stay with you forever. The human love, emotions, humour and values rise above all else and this is all put together in good balance in PAA.
I am glad that your earlier uncertainty about PAA, which was hidden between the lines you wrote on the blog has been squashed. I also feel that the sincerity, hard work and commitment from everyone involved in the making of PAA have come through and this has been rewarded.
I still find clearing paperwork and my desk area a difficult thing to do as I still end up making other smaller more piles thinking I may need that later. It would be so much easier to reduce clutter if only I could be firm and make a decision to act on something or discard it in the first instance. Sounds like you have had a good day of clear out and with that comes a better and lighter feeling in the head.
Congratulations on all the lifetime achievement awards and you might as well make more space on the shelves, as I am sure awards will be coming for PAA.
You are our best reward! I thank God that we have this connection with you and hope that once in a while you get the time to read my comments too.
    With love and acceptance

    Dear Lion king,

The entire package of PAA made PAA what it is. I think even if one element was missing, it may not have clicked and one more added element too may have resulted in the same. The heavens smile at you now, so bask in the good times and lets be thankful for the accolades that come your way and to remain. Remember that PAA is a benchmark film, there will be comparisons made in the future to it and no one can take it away from you forever.
BTW, Avataar was not a movie, an experience! All blued out after it though!

PAA is symbolic of simplicity at its best, here are my thoughts on simplicity and it’s power..

  143. chandra reddy says:

    Sir,

The reason why PAA worked is because the movie has a fresh feel to it. There is no punjabi lingo or beats in the movie. We had an overdose of Punjabi influence in the hindi movies. The dialogues were soft and story meaningful like a Mani Ratnam(south indian) movie and most of all the acting from you, Vidya Balan, Bum and Abhishek in that order.

    Hi Amitji!

Some events. some emotions, some relationships, some sorrows, some failures…have no explanations,no reasonings,no justifications. They remain inexplicable to us all our lives. However what you have achieved with Paa is completely explicable! I loved the film and wish to see it once more to be able to appreciate its finer details!

  145. Aishwarya, TVM. says:

    Dear Amitji,

There is one thing that you don’t share in common with Auro - his optimism! The rest of the endearing sweetheart that Auro is, is u. So much of praise flooding in from all corners of the world and all quarters of the society and yet u doubt and question and find it difficult to believe. Why is it so? After all that hard work u put in, isn’t it only natural that u now relax and enjoy it all? Why explain the good things in life? An analysis is required only when we go wrong, when we hurt a person, or when the world questions our act. If the code for success was ever cracked, wouldn’t we stop striving for it? The credit goes to u, to the audience for recognizing it, and to divine intervention. Why split it up into percentages and make a pie chart of it? But if a poll would help in allaying ur doubts and boosting ur morale, I’ll answer a million questions for u. U r the best, Amitji, please give credit where credit is due.

‘Springcleaning’ is my favorite activity! It relaxes my mind and helps me think. So anytime I am in a rotten mood, the house is spic and span! Well, it could be a problem if my hubby is the reason for the mood, because then a few of his important stuff may find their way into the dustbin as well!!:) My little one knows the rule now. So when I am upset, she comes up to me and asks “Ma, shall I clean my room?” The innocent question to make her mom happy doesn’t need an explanation, does it? Again, why explain?

I don’t understand why they are giving away lifetime achievement awards to you. Where will u keep all the awards for the best actor and best child artiste for the year 2009?? There will be too many! U’ll have to clean out not just a table but an entire room, Amitji, because its gonna rain awards for Auro! And I will be right here wiping happy tears and clapping for u!

    Love always,

    Aishwarya.

I am very happy that you are enjoying the continuing praises that are pouring in ….and i am sure they will keep coming in for a very long time…God bless Auro!

My daughter lives in Tucson, Arizona, which because of its university has a large populations of people from every other country in the world. Recently she went to the post office wearing her Amitabh Bachchan t-shirt. The woman in front of her turned around and praised the shirt. My daughter is a green eyed blonde of Irish extraction and the woman assumed she wouldn’t know who you are. She asked my daughter rather haughtily,” Do you even know who Amitabh Bachchan is?” My daughter spent the next few minutes telling her about the films that she has seen you in and the fact that she is a fervent fan. The woman told her that PAA is being shown at a large theater in Tucson starting tomorrow night. Usually Bollywood films are shown at the student union so this is a big step up for all the fans. I knew when I read all the reviews and accolades that this could very well bridge the gap between Hollywood and Bollywood. It will be interesting to see if I am right.

  152. Sudhir says:

    For AB,

    What-If, I-told-you-so and Divine Intervention.

It is often the case. Most of the creators find their best work that is closest to their beliefs is not accepted as well by the people as they had desired. Or sometimes it is the other way round, the one that is not accepted becomes dearer to them for what they feel they could have done differently.

Raj Kapoor’s Mera Naam Joker is a case in point. Even after 35 years it is still one of the most loved films, but he could never get over the fact that it did not hit the mark at its opening. Manoj Kumar’s Shor is another.

What-if… what-if the role of Auro was done by a talented child artist, like the kid in Masoom (I don’t remember his name but he is now a tall handsome guy now)… what-if you had played the role of Paresh Rawal?… What-if the movie had centered on the mother-son relationship?… what-if… what-if…

In my company, where I work, this ‘what-if’ comes up only when a project fails to deliver… the marketing manager what-ifs the project director who what-ifs the project manager… who what-ifs the finance manager and so on… till the CEO is ‘what-if’ed by the board of directors.

In case of Paa I think there is no place for a what-if. The success and returns have satisfied the director, actors, producers and distributors. Otherwise all the rest should be singing lyrical, “Mr. Bachchan, I-told-you-so!”

The point is moot but it is worth saying.

Mera Naam Joker was a superhit, but RK looked at it from what he wanted to succeed that didnt. Shor was a superhit, but MK had misgivings that his message did not reach the people.

This is what I call a divine intervention - when success doesn’t leave you asking for more, but wishing that the accolades had been for a reason that you had really worked for.

I once tried to spend a whole day trying to count my blessings at every step - from waking up in the morning to going to bed. And trust me, every moment seemed to be divine, even though I did not get any work done that day.

Sometimes just being where we are seems like divine grace…

    ===

It’s very prudent to clean up your cupboard yourself. My mom once found a girl’s photo in my cupboard, and she simply wouldn’t believe that I didn’t remember her name. Because, you see, that made matters worse. How could I ‘not’ remember became the issue - which lead to ‘how many of them do you know’ - which lead to - do you attend the college or flirt outside in the canteen - which lead to… oh, never mind… chill….

And then their would be some distraction and I would slip out of the house before the gang got together again on the subject… divine intervention…

    Love

    Sudhir

    Dearest Mr. Bachchan, Sir…
***Unfortunately, I won’t be able to answer your question about PAA completely due to the fact that I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing it yet. However, I DO have an opinion :)
The entire premise of PAA is a completely new one! I’ve never heard of any storyline like it, anywhere! The film’s
originality is certainly a welcome surprise in Indian cinema where almost ALL the movies are re-makes.
I DO HAVE A SUGGESTION FOR YOU: PLEASE PUT SUB-TITLES ON THE SONGS! WHY WRITE THE SONGS AND SING THE SONGS AND RELEASE THE MOVIE IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES WITHOUT SUB-TITLING THE SONGS????? I really don’t like it when I don’t know the words/emotions being sung in the songs…It happens alot in Indian movies…I just DO NOT understand WHY! Please look into that for me, ‘kay? :) I very much look forward to the day that I will get to watch your wonderful movie. After I see it, I will write and tell you. I will also tell you if there were any sub-titles for the songs….
***Sorry you had to sit through a 2 hour 40 minute movie that you didn’t enjoy…I had seen the trailers and it didn’t look that interesting to me either…I like my movies to have real people in them, too. I can’t WAIT for ‘NINE’ and ‘SHERLOCK HOLMES’ with Robert Downey, Jr. :D and I want to see
Sandra Bullock’s new movie, ‘The Blind Side’…
***Okay…now that you are done clearing away all of YOUR
stacks of useless papers, etc…how’s about comin’ over here and helping ME??? I’m afraid my house is beginning to look like one of those ‘hoarding’ people lives here…you know? Junk stacked to the ceiling with just one little pathway from the front door to the bathroom…and there’s a tiny pile of blankets on the floor in a corner…where I sleep…and some TV documentary film crew is going to show up at my door any minute…wouldn’t you like to come over and help me? I’ll make you lunch…Sunday okay? Cool. Just come on in, the door’s open.
***Well, sounds like I better dust off that ‘NOT YET’ poem again…Seriously, I want these people to recognize that they need to change the name of these awards! Do you remember?
‘THE AMITABH BACHCHAN IS JUST GETTING WARMED UP’
Award? Yes…YOU remember, whether you say anything or not…I know you remember. :D I’ll just keep typing it in for you, every time you win another one…you just keep winning ‘em!
***I am so grateful that you consider me/us your ‘best reward’…When you say things like that I truly believe that you mean it…just so you know? The feeling is mutual…I am unbelievably greatful for this connection with you…and my precious Blogmates…Strive for acceptance from me no more, my Love…you have it. You will always have it. Forever and always.

    ***DEVKISHIN @ #357 DAY 603***
OMIGOSH! How can they re-enact that rain soaked dance number from ‘Aaj Rapat’ on tomorrow’s Bigg Boss WITHOUT ME??? Maybe, if I hurry, I can make it to Lonavala by tomorrow night…let me grab my suitcase, throw in some jeans, t-shirts, make-up, blow dryer, coupla nice dresses and like 50 pairs of shoes and get over to the airport…but…wait…what was that you said? It’s NOT going to be Mr. Bachchan??? It’s ‘Vind-WHO’???
Okay…that is just wrong on a whole HOST of levels…I’ll watch it…but I am not going to dance ‘Aaj Rapat’ with
anyone unless it’s…the ONLY one…my Mr. Bachchan.
Oh, and by the way, Devkishinji…it was ALL YOU, baby…
You are the one who brought ‘Aaj Rapat’ to the surface when you put the link up here on the Blogji for me to watch!
Remember??? Teaching me what flirting looked like??? Yep! It was YOUR influence that caused it to be on Bigg Boss tomorrow night…I’m just glad that Anat, Daisy, Phyllis and I got to be in on the many, MANY fun conversations with you that caused this to happen!!! Hopefully, Manish Parmar, my very VERY best friend, will put the link up for us all tomorrow night so we can watch ‘Vind-who’ dance the ‘Aaj Rapat’…
I don’t envy him trying (unsuccessfully, I’m sure) to fill THOSE big shoes… Ha ha ha… He can try…but….. :)

    Sir

Thanks review of Avatar, i am going with my kids tommorow @ Imax Wadala

You are in safe hands with Balki, he is re-born in shadow of Mukul Dev, have said so many times, i dont think you have had time to see my comments due to your busy activities for Paa Promotions, one look @ Balki and he is mirror image of Mukul, like Mukul who made path breaking movies for you like Khuda Gawah, Hum and mother of all Agneepath, Balki too is taking you to greater heights with Cheeni Kum and Paa

A little surprised that the Chopra’s do not sign you or Abhi in any of their projects, you hold high regards for Yash Ji and he to you, so missing the AB and YRF Magic together

When do you start to shoot for new movie ? As after you shifted base to singapore for Amar Ji and since back, you have not beeing doing any movies, you have signed up several like Film Actor or Super Star with Pritish, Arakshan with Madhur , Sanjay Leela Bansali’s AD Movie , is it because you have to be in town for BB3 on friday’s ?

When does Teen Pathi release ? as i guess Rann comes in on 22/1 basis

Paa should sweep all awards of 2009, sure shots are Best Actor Auro , Best Actress Vidya , Best Supporting Actory AB Jr , Best Director & Movie Balki, all the best

    Love you,allways

  176. RAVI P MALHOTRA says:

Dear Amitji, Good Morning. Cleaning the desk means getting rid of old issues. Paa has also become an old issue now. However success of Paa is not an old issue because it is sustaining. I had pointed out to plan a silver jubilee in one of my previous writing. Balki ki Palki will be a reality. So analysing for answeres of success will be always there but sometimes we do get a feel.
Many Life-Time achievement awards will come your way because of your devotion to work. Sometimes a person becomes an Institution in himself. As regards films and associated works you do resemble an Institution. So your shadows will be now longer than you can expect.
More than anaysing successes one should analyse his failures. No one plans a failure still it occurs. So the analysis of failures will lead to future successes. I would rather do that to augment my present success. It will enhance my future performance and enrich my yields of thoughts. Try it may be it will help many people who desperately need to cover grounds.
Have a wonderful day and me too look forward to that Masala Dosa and filter coffee to celebrate my weekly off. A successful life is made of hardships converted in to opportunities. Of failures converted in to better ideas. Most importantly never giving up despite people writing you off.
    Ravi P Malhotra

    For AB,

James Cameron’s magnum opus seems like a 200 million dollar experiment. I appreciate his guts.

His earlier ventures have hit bulls eye. First ‘The Terminator’ and then the US$ 1.2 b mega mine-sweeper, The Titanic…

Hollywood is like your blog - heart-break avenue in many ways - but warm sunlight for those want a mirror break.

A 3-D movie can never be enjoyed on DVD - so the rest of the hollywood and the developing world would be keen to know if Cameron’s experiment works.

    Hello SIr,

Last week i watched your movie Paa,i liked it a lot.The way you pronounce “Paa ho ho ” i just loved it.

  183. Kaushal V says:

    Sir,

I can’t comment on why ‘Paa’ has worked for others but I can on why it worked for me.

I loved Paa for multiple reasons, and they seem to work for others as well:
    1. The characters are built out very beautifully.
    2. There is no regular Hindi movie melodrama. I shudder to think what Karan
Johar would have done with this story and how much litres of glycerine would
    have been used.
    3. The disease is not the hero, it is the story.
    4. The child takes his disease as a part of his life and knows that he does not
have too much time to live. There is no melodrama there.
    5. Auro is accepted as a normal person in his school.
    6. His interactions with his friends is most real-to-life.
    7. The script and dialogues have really brought out a 13 year old. My best
scene is when Auro is asking Bum about his mother having taken the
round-round and then suddenly says ‘Potty’. Loved that scene.
    8. Acting by all is superlative. Notice the last scene where Vishnu comes with
the girl. While you focus on the girl and Auro’s interaction, Vishnu at the
background is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME. Very 13 year old!
    9. It has some interesting social messages but brings out the thinking of a 13
year old as well. Notice the scene of Auro explaining why its better to pee on
    the road.
    10. There is no Amitabh Bachchan in the movie. There is only Auro!

There are many more reasons and I am sure all will elaborate on that. I just have to add my first day review of the movie which you can read at http://www.facebook.com/notes.php?ref=sb#/note.php?note_id=193882579394

    With respect,

    Kaushal V

    Hi Mr. Bachchan
With every congratulatory message & appreciation for PAA, that late night sms to Balki must have crossed your mind a zillion times !!
With PAA, it was the first time I attended a screening & saw a film before the official release. As the film unfolded I just kept on loving it more & more. There was an unending desire that people need to come at least once to the theatre to watch it, the rest shall follow.
I always wanted to share this thought that after watching it. I felt though Cheeni Kum & Paa are poles apart in terms of the story yet there are a lot of similarities…like Sexy plays an important part in bringing Buddhadev & Nina together similarly Auro does the same with his parents. Both Sexy & Auro are suffering from incurable disease. Both the films have fantastic one-liners…
Btw, thanks for mentioning about the cleaning up. It reminded me that I have to do the same this weekend !!
    Take care
    Love & regards

    Hello Sir

Just wanted to covey my feelings like that of millions of others that PAA was very touching and close to the heart. It brought back the smile on our (self and spouse) face that nowadays is not found specially after watcing a movie in a multiplex as you do not get the value for the total money spent.

Surprisingly while both of us were driving back and as usual were enacting the roles of taran adarsh or rajeev masand discussing the high/ low points of movie , the stand out aspect was the simplicity and beauty in which the relationships that have been shown in the movie which is fast evading in present times. Please do keep up the wonderful work that you have been doing and pray to the almighty for all of yours good health and prosperity.

  194. Tatiana says:

    Dear Amitabh Bachchan,

I am glad you chose to rest over writing more after a long movie preview evening..

I could not return to your blog yesterday, as I would like to, because I had a crazy hard day..
To start with we had three inches of snow overnight and in the morning I shoveled if for an hour.
Then on top of my problems to solve, it was raining all day upon all this mush of ice and snow and driving conditions were horrible, adding to the stress of my day !
Now it is another day and I am back home from work and I am writing to you …
    *
You suggested for us to analyze the reason for the success of “Paa” and I would not be the one in the position to analyze it - simply because I did not have the opportunity to see the film yet …
And for another reason - I believe that finer things are vulnerable to dissection and overanalyisis, unless, maybe, it is done in intimate environment where participants of the discussion are attuned to the same ‘melody of thought’ and dissonance won’t spoil the experience…: )
    *
Nevertheless, I would like to share some thoughts.. As I already did shared them in my previous comments about my impressions on “Paa” from any images and information by reviewers..

When you mentioned going to see “Avatar” yesterday, I checked out the official movie site and saw the trailer. And upon seeing the ‘blues’, I was disappointed right away because of seeming kind of mismatch between real and computer generated characters. To me it is not easy to watch.

What you did in “Paa” by enduring the hardship of prosthetics made the tremendous difference . Your character is very Human. There is a human soul - yuo - underneath of all that makeup.
That is why it is your film and ‘not seeing’ Amitabh Bachchan in the film people have a top experience of a film with your brilliant performance in it !
    *
Auro is a created entity. Created by art.. Our ability to create reveals our similarity (or congruity ) to God, the Creator. And we say, that creativity is of a divine origin..

I think for an artist to create a character - whether it is a writer, or a film director or an actor - is similar to giving birth to a real human being. The character exists and ‘is born’ into , so to speak, the spiritual dimension. The character is real to our perception and communication almost as much as the real being…

Also, I think “Paa”, being a project by independent producers, could keep its wholesomeness of initial and uncorrupted artistic idea - as a screenplay and directing by the same artist and financed by the party that did not interfere with the creative process..

    *
I share completely your thoughts and feelings about cleaning.. Just loved that paragraph !
    “A disorder restored.” - it’s a good one ! : )

    *
It is touching what you said about us - your extended family - “You are my best reward !!”
Thank you for the trust and honor …

And you are accepted and loved !! There could be no doubt about it …

    *
Have a beautiful day and may God help you in everything …

    Much love to you.
    Tatiana S. USA

  196. lakshmi (Delhi) says:

    Good morning Sir,

USP of PAA was ur performance as Auro, ur hardword and dedication towards the character. In this particular movie, we were not watching the BIG B (superstar), rather it was Auro, the 13 yrs old, who stole our heart with the way he delivered each dialogue with ease, his body language, etc. He made us wonder on everything he did. Apart from this, playing your own son’s son that too such a mischievous one is superb. Abhishek, vidya every one involved in this movie has justified their characters. A big applaud for this movie and its actors… This Film Has Worked Only Because U R THE BEST………and everyone involved put genuine efforts.

Thanks a lot Lyudmila Zueva and Syed Kabeeruddin for the beautiful and rare photos. Pawan thanx for providing us with the link.

    Love u alot, take care………..
    Lakshmi………

  197. Melwyn says:

    Dear Mr. Bachchan,

I would wish you to be apprehensive about all your projects if the end result is going to be a PAA.

I think PAA worked because it surprised and pleasantly shocked the viewers who were expecting it to be a light, gimmicky, real life father son reversing roles, sort of film. Secondly, Auro too charmed his way into the hearts of the viewers and struck an instant rapport with them.

Love and best wishes as always,

    Melwyn

JAY! JAY! JAY! This is what people remembered for many many years after they watched Sholay.
AURO! AURO! AURO! AURO! AURO! is what everyone in this world would be remembering for years, years and years to come. I have started saying already. Its not probably right as for you its just another movie character, but you choose wonderful characters.
The 1.06 min promo which I saw already in the morning on youtube and did make my comments few days ago and today. I repeat.
    BOX OFFICE HIT
    AWARD WINNING MOVIE
CONGRATULATIONS TO ONE AND EVERYONE WHO IS INVOLVED IN THIS MOVIE, EVEN TO THE ONE WHO PUT THOSE HOLES IN THE BOX TO SEE AUROS EYES & HEAD.
YOU SHOULD PLAN IN ADVANCE FOR THE 100TH DAY CELEBRATIONS(my wishes are always there even though I am miles away)
Sir, if I , a man, who does not generate tears easily could feel the flow of tears almost there by seeing just a minute of promo, I am 101% sure I have to carry atleast 3 handkerchiefs to the theatre. No jokes. No exagerration. No flattering. No, not tears of sorrows. But tears of Joy and Happiness.
This is a very genuine observation from , as I told said earlier, from an ordinary Mario , one of the many FmXt you consider special.
Once again I repeat, Its not just because of PAA, Its not just because you write to us, Its not because you respect us, but it is all because you have a SPECIAL HEART, you are a SPECIAL HUMAN. SIMPLY SPECIAL.
Thank you for all that you have gone through. For hardwork there is a reward for sure, but when there is hardwork and involving ones God to guard, protect, bless, guide, lead there simply CANNOT be a failure. God has wonderful plans for you and your hardwork and being a normal and for your wonderful human heart.
Beat it , beat it, is one song of our dear Pop King MJ which many still want to dance on and like him. Believe me or not, there will be many today on seeing you dance would not hesitate to copy your unique and elegant style. Noone can simple beat it! You are a star. A bright star. Shinning star. Favourite star. Lovely star.

DAY 564(i) No.266 Mario Andrew Rodrigues says:
    November 7, 2009 at 1:21 pm
Actually the world still strives and aims for the best of the infrastructures(tallest buildings, palaces); the best of the luxuries(airplanes, cars, motorbikes, yachts); the best looks(handsome, beautiful); the best outlooks(clothing like Aladin, jewellery, watches, shoes, makeups), but the world does accept anyone even it looks like AURO, but the magic behind the acceptance and love is because of the way AUROs says PAAAAAAAAAA,right from the bottom of the heart.
    Love you Auro.
    Regards
    Mario

    Respected Sir,

I can’t understand what should I say more. I have no more words.
Just I am praying to GOD, when will I touch your foot and expose my love
and respect. I am your son-like, kindly don’t make me hopeless. Please expand
your hand , open your heart , look at me ——-let me get a small space in you

  203. Lyudmila says:

My dearest Amitji., my dear friend..
You and your corporation ABCL have done simply fantastic work in creation of a remarkable masterpiece.. Paa is unique. It is surprisingly wise and kind film, forcing to think, sympathise and love., a film which sets thinking and even to change something in our life. Very strong actors staff Vidya Balan.. The role of mother Auro is very powerful and effective. At Vidya is very thin has understanding character of the heroine and it was very convincing.. Abhishek just fine and is delightful..! My dear., your Auro always will be in my heart, he is exists.! You have given him an eternal life in our hearts… I will often reconsider a film, in my soul it has left an incredible trace, warmth and tenderness.
Let in your life all will be good and remarkable, let all will come true in the best kind.. Take care, have a rest my angel.. I pray for you… With warm sincere love to you and more.. Yours devoted Lyudmila..

  204. Phyllis (PB) in Texas says:

    Dear Paa stakeholder,

You want opinion and analysis? Then read what Daisy M has to say, so brilliantly, and with such heart-felt authenticity, on comment 109. What could one say after THAT?

All I can add is that the film proves that variation on an old theme, “the way to a man’s heart is through his funnybone.”

And Daisy M, there was not a single blog inch too much; in fact, you left me wanting more. Just as I felt after reading Satyam’s review a few days ago, I was sorry when it ended.

    Thank you!

    With love and admiration,

    Phyllis

Thank you Amit-Jee! thank you for ‘PAA” !

I had woved to myself , that I did not deserve to make my presence felt on the Blog until I had watched it! Now that I have, I am here with a very big THANK YOU!! I watched it, with my sons , flanked on either side. My younger son who had struggled with learning disability, earlier in his school days, held my hand throghout the movie, as we sat there with moist yet smiling eyes. We had earlier shared a similar experience while watching TAARE ZAMEEN PAR. sUCH FEEL GOOD FILMS BOTH!…. PAA AND THE LATTER.

  226. Nagendrappa Manne says:

    Dear Sir,

I have seen the “Paa” recently. It has given me the mixed feelings. One side, the supurb performances of the artists, and the other side, I felt at some important scenes I could not able to hear or understand what the dialogue of the Auro, eventhough it is Dolby Sterio Theatre? The story is also not focussed one subject either on the disease, politics, media related. The music of Maestro Ilaya Raja is also stood at “best” not “excellent”. Overall I will rate this film at 3 out of 5. This is my genuine feeling amidst lot of appreciation that has been getting from EF. Hope, my dear Amit ji, will accept this too.

Thank you sir for asking the opinion of EF on the film. I liked it very much. Keep it up and all the best in your future endeavours and film projects.

    With Himalayan love…..

  236. Pradip Kumar Modi says:

    Dear Amitabhji,
You’ve asked us to give our opinion as to why ‘Paa’ has clicked. It has clicked, in my humble opinion, because of honesty of director in telling the story in a very simple but interesting way. It was a very balanced movie having Auro in the centre with very good supporting cast and dialouges. None of us has any idea as to what to expect a progeria affected child to behave. So everytime he surprsises us with his witty acts. People are going cinema hall to see Amitabh Bachchan as a 13 yr old child but there is no Amitabh Bachchan in the film, it’s only Auro there who connects with audience in no time.
We’ve enjoyed it thoroughly and plan to watch again in couple of days again.
    Thanks & With Regards,

  240. Deepak Thakur says:

    Dear Amitji,

More than the reasons what you have qouted , the director was confidant because he knew that PAA has the greatest and legendary actor, the one and only Amitji and there is no reason for it fail. Because Amitji Thy name is Success.

    Warm regards

This is almost enticing, but I will give it one last shot. I hate to see subversive devises thriving on the acknowledgement of the righteous.

    My case rests.

  242. VT says:

    Dear Mr.Bachchan,

It is indeed very comforting that Paa has been accepted by the masses. The irony, however, is that we just cannot believe these biased media. Yes, this movie was never in their list of awaited movies (even if not the most) and now it will hurt their ego to say it has been grabbed by the masses with both hands. Now they call it by all kinds of names, average, above average, will make money due to low cost blah blah blah.

The only way for me to find if Paa is a hit or not is actually look into the booking positions of some of the multiplexes. I have been wanting to book tickets during the past two weekends but have not been able to. It clearly shows media is not to be trusted.

I do hope you live hale and healthy for several more years and give us more of Paas.

  244. Shobha C. says:

    Respected Mr.Bachchan,
The biggest drawing point of’Auro’was, you, ofcourse.Who could’ve imagined that you could play the role of a thirteen year old! Most of us had not heard of Progeria,or how it affects a child. The movie was a revelation of sorts. It opened in front of us,lyer by layer, the calibre of a hugely gifted actor, who surprised us yet again, with his genius.
For me,it was the sheer dignity, with which the subject was handled, that was remakable about the film. There was the sound of a lot of chuckles, being heard all through the film,at his naughtiness. He was a busy guy..had to go to school, paint the globe, avoid the girl classmate, had to see the Rashtrapati bhavan and so on.There was no time to brood or feel sorry! It was only when the camera takes the close-up shots of his eyes a couple of times, you know that he knows too!It was about living life with joy and dignity..for each one of them!
Glad to know that you have rested well,
    Have a great day..

Good to know your feeling on allof us!ur every sentence mean slot to me …
Paa is a movie of a different kind,a film with a heart..the most amazing part of the film was the equation the character shares with the parents and of course at school…
More scenes of Auro could have been incorportated with his friends but expectations of one will not turn the minds of others…

Looking forward to Rann and Teen Patti

  258. kalpana kakade says:

    My Dearest Amithji,

    These are the reasons why PAA succeeded;

First & foremost, is , it is the curiosity! People are simply wondering how Amithabh Bachchan is playing a 13 year old, that too , with his height, also apart from the fact that he is 68 years old!

Then ,people are watching it because it is an Amithabh Bachchan movie, so however it is , it will be “paisa vasool’

People are watching it because of the chemistry that exists between you & ahishek.(how I love ‘kajarare ‘ song!) but in PAA, Balki should have put in more interaction between you two, but no problem, it still worked!

The movie does not preach!Nowhere in the movie balki has made us feel sorry for Auro. Auro is such a ordinary 13year old ,lovable kid,it is amazing, really!

Right from starting to end, balki has kept the same tempo, never fast paced or too slow paced. Editing is very good!

And to top it all, YOU playing the role of Auro! with such finness!

we were all sooo thirsty for a good family movie & PAA is just that ! Can be viewed by one and all.

Thanks Amithji & Balki & the entire team, for giving us such a lovely movie.
Please do churn out some more movies like this in future too.

My love & support to you always,
    rgards,
    kalpana kakade

    Hi Big B and FmXt!

Hope alls having a good time? The Christmas and New Year vacations have begun in most schools and the kids have a lot of free time. Its the time they can afford to see a few movies and so its a good time for good movies. Whatever rush you have seen for Paa is going to increase 10fold this December end. Auro, way to go!!

Love to Zainab, Jasmine Jayant and all all others. Have a nice day, evening, and night.

:-) Here are Twenty Things a Guy Learned From Action Movies :-)

    1. No matter what my problem is, it’s the fault of someone other than myself, and the appropriate response is to find that person and kill him with my bare hands.

    2. To be truly attractive, a woman must wear high heels and an outfit so tight you can tell whether she’s cold or not from across the room.

    3. There are two kinds of women in the world: The type that want to go to bed with you, and the type want to kill you. Both types are physically attractive and under 25 years old.

    4. If I rudely argue with my boss in front of my co-workers, not only won’t he fire me, but he will gain a profound respect for me.

    6. If I go without bathing, swear a lot, and treat women badly, they will adore me.

    7. If a woman tries to clean a bullet wound and I curse in pain, she will fall in love with me.

    11. When I shoot people, they will die quickly and cleanly, and I will never be arrested or troubled by their widowed wife and children. When people shoot me, however, I will at most receive a ‘flesh wound,’ which will be tended to by a beautiful woman.

    12. Nuclear weapons will never go off because something will always happen about three seconds before one does to stop it from exploding.

    13. If an aged scientist is involved in any way, he will have a beautiful daughter who will gaze at me adoringly.

    15. If I have a kid partner, he will be tightly-muscled, clean-cut, and gaze at me adoringly.

    16. If I am asked to compete against a world champion at any sport or game of any type, I will win. This will infuriate my opponent, who will then try to kill me.

    17. If my opponent has a side-kick or henchman, he will never have a sensible name like ‘Rick,’ or ‘Steve.’

    18. Beautiful women will frequently furrow their brows with concern and ask, “When’s the last time you got any sleep?” They will never ask when I last bathed or used the toilet, although I apparently never do those things either.

  276. Mario Andrew Rodrigues says:

    ANAYLYSIS / OPINION

When one watches a super-man, spider-man movie what happens , we leave the cinema hall wanting to be like them.
When one finishes watching a love story movie, we also want to fall in love.
When one watches a revenge movie, we also want to take revenge for our rights.
When one watches a sad movie, we end up being sad and sorry.
When one watches a disco movie, we also want to go to disco.
When one watches a obsene movie, we also might think why not?

So, PAA is a move which makes a husband and wife unite for the sake of their children. It makes the school children to be nice to their less fortunate friends. It makes a lady to change her mind from aborting to bringing life into this world. It makes a politician to do something good for its people, with great power comes great responsibility. It makes a grandma even more closer to her grandchildren fully knowing whatever they call , even bum, is just a lovable way. It makes a couple realise their errors done in excitment. It teaches us to forgive for the sake of others. It makes us to stay always positive. It makes a father support his son. It makes a mother to be even more closer to her children even when and if she is alone. It teaches to accept a person as he/she is. It teaches not to peep into others letters. It teaches to say sorry and accept sorry……………be FRIENDS….
Life is short there is no time to make ENEMIES….

The whole movie is just right and nothing is OVER-DONE. The timings, the wittiness, the simple language, meaningful dialogues, melodious music, the speed, to the point, leaves a message/moral story.

The best thing is most of the movies if we think of becoming spiderman, superman, tintin, loverboy, vilian, hero, we cannot become because it is not practical and not possible in the normal life.

If PAA , everyone can become what is shown. A good Father. A good Mother. A good Son. A good grandmother. A good doctor. A good responsible politician. A good friend. A good child. A good relationship. A good person in the society. A thoughtful media. Learn discipline. Learn and accept what needs to be eaten in life under unfortunate circumstances.

    oooppppppppppppppppppsssssssssssss.

    I think I wrote toooooo much….

But that is what I gathered. Hoping and praying this makes INDIA a big family.
And you are indeed the head of your family, FmXt family and I am so happy that I am a small part of this affection, regards, respect.
Thanks once again to R.Balki and Ilayaraja and the team for presenting to us some of the good values , virtues of society.
    Sp.Regards,
    Love

Auros wit & charm is the MAIN ingredient for the success of PAA.Its AURO AURO & AURO.You have done a great job .Your body language is superb, the hands somewhat loose ,adds to the character & which gives Auro a great depth .He is innocent ,at the same time has the best of wit.He is a wonderful kid ,& so audience fall in love with Auro from the first shot.
The shot in which he asks for the pickles ,but not for himself ,but for his mother & says why all the time sacrifice..fantastic…..so it touches the hearts of the millions .
He is lovely & adorable, when he says popat ho gaya…..when he goes out shopping. In another shot when he is with his PAA eating, he is at his best. The movie is the best.

    Paa is succeful because,

    Public loves something good.

    1. Excellent combination of direction, music, acting, screenplay.Everybody scoring over others in their area of specialisation.
    2. It is a movie that suits multiplex audience. Important features: wit, entertaining, good music, shorter length, lovely picturisation. That smiles and dry tear on cheek factor
    3. Wonderful ‘word of mouth’ publicity.
    4. Audience in age group of 40-60 are finding time to watch it in a cinema. Presence of viewers of 60-80 age group in halls giving it that extra mile. These are the people who rarely see movie in a cinema until it is exceptional.

On top of that you are in it. You have a sizeable fan following perhaps larger than any other your contemporaries and juniors.

    Dear sir,
The Major point behind for the Success of Paa…
Outstanding performance by you + believe or not believe Auro is Great AB + Unique make up ,prosthetics + extra ordinary photography + music that touch the emotion and soul + Abhishek ji’s performance as yours’father +story with different characterisation in Hindi cinema, we saw young artist played the role of father grandfather or older age , but in this film 67 yeras old play the role of Kid it is very difficult task and this film will be the film of Artists too who can learn lot ..it is the new dimension of film and art fraternity + new bold humour of life , in Death board one can laugh or make laugh to others _ optimistic
and for cRy it is so natural .. this film is the sangam of DUKH AND SUKH and well blended or passing current or flow without disturbing the story ..as our life .
but please don’t forget Success has ability to erase any mistakes happened .

more later we could write more about this film .

I had already posted in previous blog my experience about sorting of papers..
in short .. when i was in college and after passed .. ..I collected so many books and papers as like as precious gems.. some years after i checked it and found that some were irrelevent so destroyed it .. after marraige again sorted out then i found again big portion of our collection were not gems so threw and torn them.. thereafter again for lack of space my wife requested me to sort out your papers ..then we found that half of it were worthless in the context of present so ragged them.. now only few books and papers in our shelves … each and every time when i sorted out it reduced in volumes as my life reducing day by day ..i think with surprise at end of life how many gems will be in my hand .. Time will say !!!!

    with regards
    Dinesh

Seldom you come across a movie which can touch your heart and weave magic in the most special way. Paa is all this and more….Even the little things like the home where Auro stays and the little thoughtful knick knacks placed everywhere make it a normal home and not a typical filmi house. Auro calling his grandmother Bum. His with and humor. Auro’s friends or even things like eating khicri at a five star hotel. All these things make it special. But I think what’s best about Paa is the normal, humane and ordinary existence it has shown in an extraordinary manner. Oh btw how can I forget Mrs. Jaya Bachchan introducing the caste in the beginning and her innocent smile, which still has traces of ‘Guddi days. I have always been a big fan of hers…and even now don’t leave an opportunity to watch her movies. Yesterday in fact I was watching Parichay. I’m going to be meeting my relatives next week in Calcutta and we have all planned to go and see Paa again… :)

    For AB,

This is an old subject but still valid and contemporaneous.

Does the end justify the means?

400 million people were united and mobilized by the call of peaceful, non-violent. non-cooperation and for achieving independence. 6 million people were killed in ethnic massacres across the new borders in the same process.

What was the aim? A peaceful, non-violent civilisation or independence?

Does the end justify the means?

As you say, let us not be country-centric, culture-centric or any other divisive centric.

We are now truly globalized… so there are no standards but those of rootless peddlars… let us dramatize their lives for the education of our own people… awareness after all is the first step towards acceptance…

“God is dead and Man is free!” said Nietzsche. Prophetic words those…

AURO,PAA COULD BE FOLLOWED WITH OTHER MOVIES HAVING AURO IN THE MAIN LEAD.

I still wouldn’t rate the performance of Mr.B among the top 3 movies of his career. Movies such as ‘paa’ according to me are a tussle between the director and the actor and in this case I feel the director has won it hands down.

Wouldn’t list myself under a ‘regular’ at this blog but I have rather enjoyed moments when Mr.B singles out print articles and sticks it out to the media. It caught me by suprise when Mr.B decides to suck up to the media and thank them at every point when a movie from his production house was hitting the screens. Quite contrary to the Mr.B I read about in his blog for some time now.

Please do not take any offence to my views expressed here. Every one is entitled to their own views just like I may not find myself misisng humans when I do get a chance to watch the movie ‘avatar’.

    Sir,
You are the most popular Indian actor .People love you, worship you, adore you.
However, they expect a lot from you. Thus if you make a bad movie it becomes a disaster because people take it personally. Thats what happened with Aladdin, Aag etc. Paa is superb movie. A great AB movie will undoubtedly be greatly appreciated both critically and commercially. Besides your career best performance it has outstanding performance from Vidya, Abhi and supporting cast. The music is soulful. The story touches the heart. Its also very very entertaining and funny .It has everything that Indian audience wants.
Thats why despite of all the odds ,this movie is blockbuster hit and a classic for ages.

  331. Jasmine of London says:

    My dearest Mr Bachchan,

Hope you are very well today and enjoying whatever activities dominate your schedule.

It was incredibly disciplined of you to clean up on your first free day in so long! Indeed the end of the year is the perfect time to de-clutter, de-bunk the living environment of the leftovers of the year in preparation for the new. And there is tremendous psychological satisfaction in knowing that document or letter has been dealt with forever. I am a serial hoarder when it comes to memorabilia, cards and personal artefacts and can never bear to part with anything of sentimental value, even if I never have opportunity to look at them again, it simply finds a home in little box in the attic. But having recently inherited the ominous title of a home owner, am becoming aware of the sheer mass of bills and insurance receipts and sundry paperwork that keep flooding in through the post on a daily basis. It’s almost criminal in terms of the wastage for the environment!
If you do not already own a shredding machine Mr Bachchan, you must invest in one. As well as being a great space saver, and a safe way to dispose of your personal paperwork; the action of shredding itself is so therapeutic for relieving worldly frustrations should they arise!

Seized an opportune moment to watch Bigg Boss yesterday, the programme nearly drawing to a close, I was pleasantly surprised to observe a change in the contestant’s behaviour – I wonder if you have noticed? Apart from the overtly catty friction between the remaining ‘ladies’, the group were finally engaging in something resembling evocative and sincere conversation! Pravesh and Vindu even voiced their differences and called a truce. It’s either simply a strategy on each housemate’s part to influence the public vote – anyone can feign decency for a few days; or the rigours of the experience have beaten their egos to acquiescence - I prefer to believe it’s the latter! As ever, interested to know the pop philosopher’s thoughts and indeed how you will rate your entire experience of hosting the game when this stint draws to a close. From my experience with the UK game, the hosts were rarely signed up to a single series - the production company are far more gluttonous than that, so I am sure they will not allow your expertise to slip away easily. As well as boosting ratings you are probably the only celebrity host with perception, empathy and the ability to relate to a broad range of people and provide some worthy life coaching advice in the package! I would say you were a priceless addition to the show! Nevertheless, we are concentrating on Rann in the immediate future but do hope you will have a rest before the release in January!

Hoping your day has been peaceful and productive and I wish you a very lovely early evening for the moment. Anticipating the new poll question, unless you have already satisfied yourself with what you have read!
Until later, look after yourself Mr Bachchan.

    All my love,

    Jasmine
    xx

    Valorie Adams 155

Sorry folk if we three foolish females (Valorie and Phyllis and me) seem to be ganging up this week, but I HAD to say how much I agree with Valorie about putting sub-titles on songs.

Songs are such a wonderful part of Indian films, and the lyrics often have so much emotion and resonance - and even poetry - and it seems cruel to the non-Hindi-speaking viewer to deprive us of such beautiful words.

And isn’t it also perpetuating the false myth that Indian films are full of fluffy, meaningless songs - when even the producers of such films don’t think it’s worth bothering to translate the lyrics… presumably under the misapprehension that vieweres won’t be missing anything.

Also it’s surely offensive to the lyric writer to ignore his creative part in the whole glorious mix of the film. And it betrays the director’s intentions too - the song lyrics may be giving new perceptions of the characters and their emotions.

So GIVE US SUB TITLES ON SONGS PLEASE Mr Director and Producer. Balki and Abhishek… are you listening??

    With love from Daisy

    Hello dearest Mr. Bachchan,‎

Iam glad you had an enjoyable time at the preview of Avataar, and you just did the right ‎thing to succumb to this state of slumber and to allow yourself to have some restful and ‎sufficient sleep.‎

Unfortunately I haven’t watched PAA yet, and hence iam unqualified to be able to ‎analyze the movie or give a proper reason why it has emerged as a super hit. the hidden ‎secret might lay in breaking the norms and presenting something new, unusual, ‎unconventional and unexpected to the audience. PAA has raised the curiosity and interest ‎of everyone since the release of the premier and the unveiling of the photo’s of Auro who ‎have captured the hearts of all who encountered him. ‎
It is not an easy task to try to find a reason why since a lot of ‎‏ ‏factors have without doubt ‎participated and resulted in the creation of that brilliant and remarkable artistic work… ‎all the time we try to find reasons and causes that give rise to events in our times and it is ‎useful to know and learn from them, to be able to see an evaluate points of strengths and ‎weakness…and sometimes it is just sufficient and satisfactory to just dwell in the glory of ‎our achievement and enjoy the state of elation generated by getting the reward for our ‎hard work…. I do tend to believe in the element of divinity and its intervention. ‎

It was interesting reading of your process of cleaning up…it is always sweet to visit ‎places that have been ignored and neglected for sometime and to find things like photos, ‎letters or notes which are connected to past times and sweet memories.‎

Many congratulations on the forthcoming Life Time Achievement reward and i hop many ‎more to come your way.‎

    Enjoy your day..‎

  362. Ravi Shankar says:

Sir, I really don’t understand how did you expect movie like Paa to not perform well. It is an excellent movie with best ever performance by any Indian actor!
Sametime I question that why don’t you feel the same for useless movies like Aladdin or KANK, which just put you like a mediocre actor.

Please understand that you are Amitabh Bachchan, an actor from which the Indian public expect the highest, taking up biggest challenges of your profession…and they just distaste you whenever you now try to do something mediocre or on formulae. We would like to see you in all biggest challenging roles the mightiest actor could do.
Just do the statistics for such movies…they have always rewarded you..even Aks and Nishabd despite of flops are counted as high quality movies and memorable for your roles and performance as an actor taking up the challenge. So in fact your all such movies made more marks than superhits of other actors!
Khakhee, Dev, Black, Baghbaan, Aankhein, ChiniKum and now this ballistic movie Paa. What a proud lineup!
You should do such movies sir instead of Aladdin like craps. People expect to see you breaking all records of performance. Like you did by completely removing the trademark “Hain” of Amitabh, or his walking style or dialogue delivery style in Paa. Modulation, change of everything according to the character. Every character you play should have no trace or link to any previous one you have already played,,,which helps in removing the repetitiveness too!

Also one more suggestion. Please try to remove you beard. Try with your mustache. You look sold with moustache. You Khakhee look. It will give better flexibility to your look.

Anyway thank you very much for giving us Auro and reinforcing our faith that AMitabh Bachchan is the biggest actor of this nation!

    Axtelera-Ray The Movie:

Axtelera-Ray, also Known as ‘Kingdom Of The Octavia’, it’s a 3-D science fiction epic film written and directed by Alroy Jovi, and will be released in 2010, 2011. focuses on an epic conflict on Octavia, an inhabited Saturn-sized satellite of Avario, The human and the sentient humanoid indigenous inhabitants of Octavia, engage in a war over the Universal resources and the latter’s continued existence. The term “Axtelera-Ray” does not bear any meaning in Greek, or any other language that could find. However, it is now known as “form of Strength” or “paladin”.
The film will be released in 2D and 3D formats. The film is being touted as a breakthrough in terms of filmmaking technology, for its development of 3D viewing and stereoscopic filmmaking with cameras that were specially designed for the film’s production.

  371. Diwakar says:

    Hello Sir,

Since you wanted to know reasons why “PAA” worked at the box office, I thought I must give you some of my thoughts.
The first and foremost reason was YOU and YOUR PERFORMANCE. People even if they are not interested in movie, they don’t like the story line , they will go and watch this movie just for your sake and to observe your new AVATAR.
The other reason behind movies’ success is some brilliantly executed sequences. So when film is loosing connection with the viewers there comes an interesting scene which holds them for getting disconnected and maintains pace and continuity.
Terrific performances from every actor. Abhishek proved what he can do and Vidya balan is simply awesome. BUM was too sweet. Paresh rawal had nothing to do but he was oK as well.
On the other hand I feel that this movie could have been life time blockbuster had some scenes would have been deleted like political track and showing more connection with PAA (justifying its name). This is a massive opportunity wasted in my opinion. You may be feeling that only PAA’s success is meaningful for you but I would say one thing , these opportunities comes once in a life time, AURO comes once in century why to waste such an opportunity just for the sake of simplicity. PAA rocks but this movie could have been better with some minor deletions and some additions.
Don’t take my criticisms in wrong way I am very happy that PAA has worked but at the same time sad because I feel this movie would have been in psyche of every Indian for coming decades for its totality not just you.

It was a long evening and night of fake court reporting for me in ‘The Good Wife’, starting at 4:30PM and ending at 7AM. Then I went straight to Brooklyn career force to sign up for free computer classes starting with Introduction to Computers. I should get some sleep after being up for 26 hours.

I hope to see a new post when I wake up.

    Dear Devkishin ji,

I want to thank you for so much fun! I have totally enjoyed being able to share those those wonderful Amitabh dances back and forth, and have enjoyed your comments as well as Valorie’s and Daisy’s. Also, hurray for flirting…long may it live! May you and Valorie never let us down! Like Amitabhji himself, you both shine in that department!

And in all honesty I have to tell you that like Valorie, Anat Magen, and Anand Khare, I too would vote for your “Aaj Rapat.” Not that all those other song and dance numbers were not wonderful, but for the ideal demonstration of flirting at its sensuous, romantic best, with just a perfect light touch of humour that only intensifies the passion, it is the best rain dance ever made, as far as I am concerned.

Thank you for sharing it with Valorie so that her joy and wonder could delight us all!

I hope it will not be the last time you spring such a delightful surprise upon us!

    Love and regards,

    Phyllis

And, Daisy, I love the beautiful Kabhi Kabhie, but I have to tell you that I find it such a heart breaking song, both in itself and in the context of the movie, that my pleasure in it is always mixed with pain.

  374. Phyllis (PB) in Texas says:

    PS Devkishin and Valorie,

    Devkishinju and Valorie,

Those remakes of Aaj Rapat in recent movies never come close, not by a mile. All that sultry writhing pales into insignificance beside the original…its song, its music, its choreography, its camera work, the great performances of both Amitabh and Smita, that was the real thing…call it commercial Hindi cinema if you wish, no name can disguise the fact that it’s great art!

I don’t even wanna think about Aaj Rapat in the context of that ridiculous tv show.

To quote an old favorite from my childhood (Mad Magazine): Arrrrrgaaaahhhhhh!!

    Sire…

    Loved Auro ……..
Saw it for the 3rd time.
it brought cheerful tears in my eyes with every frame.
I guess when one sees you all decked up as a kid, one tries to find the Amitabh of Deewar, Don, Trishul, agneepath in it and all the memories that we have had of you during our lifetime comes back and stands right in front of us. You are someone who makes every indian feel as if you are just one of the family members and then to see you as a kid, only increases our craving to take this kid home.

    Love you sire

I grew up watching your films….revolver in the left hand…and dhisoom dhisoom!….and then “Black”…and now “Paa”!!We are fortunate to witness such “acting genius” in you unfolding each time. I think “Paa” is a valiant attempt on part of each one involved…but I’m always curious to know -the “moment of truth” when such initial thoughts, ideas, conceptualisation …the overall vision dawned on. Just a question….does this film by any chance gets its motivation from Amir’s previous work? Whatever it may be, “Auro” deserves for an Oscar! The digg at the “Big Brother Media” was a nice one too.
    Thank you and Best Regards,

  379. Tejas Mankodi says:

    Dear Sir,

Why were you so apprehensive about the movie, it is the most toughest role of your career and you have done exceptionally well, NO ONE I repeat NO ONE can do what you have done, you have given a different meaning to the world of acting. Auro was so well performed that I was so stunned by seeing you.

And we have the proof, cinema halls are flooded with people of all ages, even those who had not seen any movie in cinemas for ages have come out and seen this movie, I have a live example, my father in law and mother in law. I made sure that they go and see the movie and they loved the movie and loved Auro too.

So Sir, please dont under estimate yourself, you are the best.

I will copy a quote from someone which I read in a review, goes very true for you.

“At times you should not be yourself to show the world what you really are. AMITABH BACHCHAN does just that and shows the world he is the PAA of performing arts….”

With lots and lots of love.

  380. Daksha says:

    Dear Sir,

PAA. You ask what was it about the film that clicked into the minds of the viewers. It is easy to say “I liked the film” or “I loved the film”. You want to know why. Well…you are in there! But that was just one of the reasons.

Whenever we take on a project and pour our sweat and blood into it, it is the final outcome that we pray and wait for. Once the project is completed and reactions start pouring in, the most natural thing to do is to sit down with our family/friends and discuss all that went into the project, by whom and to what extent. Thus you ask the FmXt for our opinions/analysis of the outcome. Having just read some of the responses/reasons by FmXt, I feel like hiding under the table because I am simply not capable of analysing it. I can provide my feedback in very general terms. I remember this line from a Hindi film song…”Muthhi mein hai takdeer hamari humne kismet ko bas mein kiya hai…nanhe munne bachhe teri muthhi mein kya hai…” Perhaps this applies to you Sir.

Also, you ask whether divinity has intervened in some way into the film…and I remember these words from a song…”Mano to mein Ganga Maa hoon, na mano to beheta pani…” I hope that answers your question.

My personal opinion is this. Any piece of creativity carries an element of divinity in itself. We revere it, we love it, we bow to it, we appreciate and marvel at it and we breathe it. It cannot be proven scientifically that divinity is linked to creativity but to me, what I feel within is valid and important and will remain so no matter what. Secondly, I would give credit for the film to blessings from Parents where ever they are. The story, the cast, the superb performances, the making and editing and music and marketing, the age factors, the relationship between the cast in real life and the film… all follow after that. PAA has been a success because Auro appealed and connected with the people. The story was not over-dramatized as can be the case with Hindi films at times, particularly when the main character was born with such a condition and with a distinct physical appearance. What was surprising was how matter-of-factly Auro’s thoughts and emotions and life were portrayed. Balki could have made the ending much sadder than he did and could have made the audiences cry their eyes out, Auro could have been portrayed as a victim of bullying but none of this happened. I found Auro’s entry into the film so overwhelming as was his departure. How very impatiently Auro waited for the visit to the Rashtrapati Bhawan he had been looking forward to..that was just so endearing. When he was in agony/pain at not being given the chance to go, he kind of accepted the situation…reminds me of these words…”wohi hoga jo manzoore khuda hoga…”

So far I have given credit to the makers of the film. I feel that credit also goes to the external forces - the media. They stirred curiosity. You have already acknowledged them and rightly so. It cannot be denied that after the very first viewing, they had welcomed PAA with open arms, welcomed from their hearts. You had kindly put up some of the sms messages from the media on the blog and to me they seemed quite genuine. This blog also did a wonderful job of marketing, words straight from your mouth. The number of hours you spent in prosthetics and all…raised so much curiosity into the minds of people on the blog as well as across the globe!!! So by all means Sir, do reflect on it, most natural thing to do.

You have been sorting out your papers. Records of so many things…life, careers, events, people and places stored for posterity. I guess your staff would be dealing with minor household expenses and hisab kitab! I suppose any paperwork relating to your life will be important. There would be those files and records that can be set up and discarded at human discretion and there would be those files opened by peoples own destinies..the urge to read about you and your life forever remains amongst us. Us FmXt have stored you in the safest place, our hearts. May you live with and within us and into the history of mankind for ever. God bless you.

    Love,
    Daksha

    Dear Sir,

The progeria look was good, the single Mother angle was also nice specially with her mother(BUM) helping her, some people must be doing this way….Vidya has played a wonderful role. Auro’s friends, the effort of the child in uniting his parents was amazing, it showed he loved his parents and he was sensible…. Auro and his friends made us laungh a lot in the movie, we even clapped on some dialogues in the movie hall…..the only thing was the end came so fast which was not expected, there could be some more emotions, showing father and son relationship……

The overall movie experience was wonderful, my son can’t just forget it, he keeps singing or repeating the dialogues, specially Bum and Mum….

    Lots of Love and Regards,

  391. Sarosh says:

Hmm.. I think you may be over-promoting this film a bit :) Take a break, will ya! :) If it’s good it will speak for itself. I think it’s ok.. yet another ‘hollywood-inspired’ movie, yawn so what’s new. (The movie Jack - with Robin Williams who has progeria). Agree that this was completely Indian-ized with father son emotions, usual gimmicks (real-life son playing father etc.). Seriously I’d love to see an original film from you with no gimmicks, no over-the-top promotions and giving out free ice cream to watch the show, no Bollywood gimmicks to attract ‘masses’ etc. I’m not sayig it should be elitist - just that it should be refreshing and original and the plot should be bigger than the star(s). Jack was like that - very fresh and original when it was done, and very well crafted. You redo it in Bollywood it loses it appeals - and seriously seems like an over-reaching attempt for awards.

It appears we have rediscovered ”’Aaj Rapat— ” after decades!!!!

Everything is perfect in this song—sensuous movements by the lead pair, imaginative direction, lighting, sets, photography, and the lyric and the composition of the music director.Such songs are not made now a days as there are hardly any actors of Amitabhji’s stature.Today’s pocket size heroes will be crushed by well built tall actresses .

    Why is Paa a success?

    1. Original and unique story (almost nobody had heard of progeria before).
    2. Superb and unparalleled performance by Big B in terms of acting,
    voice,expressions and body language.
    3. Positivity through out the film. Every body treats Auro as one of their own
    with no negative comments.
    4. Even with such as a heavy subject, the film is very light with lot of humour.
    There is no preaching.

Congratulations to Big B (or Biggest A to Z).

i watched PAA. its a very good movie. the acting of Big B, Jun. B and Vidya rocks. but its my personal feeling supported by my Big B that the desease PROGERIA has not been justified in the movie and entire movie shows only the acting skill of the Big B… anyway the film industry is concerned about the BOX OFFICE……… HOWEVER, again i would say its a fantastic movie with MATURED MESSAGE…..See More

  411. Digvijay singh says:

i heard Big B saying he wasted his previous time in the film industry before the PAA.

if its true… i regret its a very hurting statement, since its because of those 40 years that PAA has been recognised by genre. otherwise no one would have appreciated the movie had there been any other actor,, the masses go to see Big B playing PAA and not the story or the message…..

    if its fake………….. NO COMMENTS….

    REGARDS TO BIG B
