Anu of london faces a serious stomach surgery tomorrow . She is our FmXt and needs all the prayers and wishes of all for a speedy recovery to good health. May we all wish it so.
It may be Sunday, but for work there seems to be no Sunday. Pushing and promoting PAA, continues. Now the media and the channels seek time to do programs on the success of the film. I oblige all irrespective of time and schedule pressures, becoming Auro once and AB the next instant. The numbers have been large, but when you do for one, the others step in for theirs as well. Fair and natural I would like to believe. Visits to theaters, meeting contest winners, spending time with those that sponsored us - the Axis Bank and iDEA mobile - all has been a most rewarding experience. The consideration of the Bank was somewhat symbolic - the Producers are now laughing their way to the Bank. Metaphorically that is. But what has been most amazing is the responses that keep flowing in from different quarters. They come from unexpected destinations and from unrecognized people. They come with exuberance and surprise. They come with the most incredible expressions of joy and praise. From little kids to grown up uncles and aunts, there is but one singular track of unadulterated joy - their love for Auro and their love for the film. It has been a most moving experience since the early hours of the morning when I visit Dilkhush School, an institution that is a few yards away from the house. An institution that I pass by every day as I drive out. An institution I never realized was so deeply involved in the care of children that were physically challenged. It was an amazing experience to inaugurate their crafts exhibition. These challenged children had hand made the most exquisite goods. Bed covers and handkerchiefs, bags to containers, paintings and drawings, eating goods - all done with finesse and great quality. And what of the children ! So full of energy and excitement at my arrival. Each one challenged, but gifted with the quality of love and compassion. Of wanting to be loved and held and touched. Many of them influenced by TV and my appearances for Bigg Boss. Many imitating my entry routine at the show. Others singing songs from my films and urging me to entertain them with screams and shouts of ‘Auro !’ ‘Auro !’ ‘Auro !’.
I look at them with deep sadness and remorse, but dare not show it. They need to be away from sympathy. They need to be treated as one normal being. It is strange that within a couple of days I have two such experiences - one at the autistic center in Dubai and the other now with this Institute. I am full of resolve by the efforts shown by the children of course, but am in deep appreciation for those that work here voluntarily in teaching these wonder kids how to cope with their condition. May God bless them, for they are to me nothing less than angels that come down upon them to deliver their love and affection, their feeling of being one with them and giving them the hope of a better future and a better tomorrow.
All other activity pales before this and I feel dwarfed by the suggestions that come from them on matters concerning world affairs and country centric issues. Simply amazing. All else after this seems out of place and unwanted.
I leave with a heavy heart and extend support to the organizers and builders of this Institute in any manner of help that I could extend to them.
Speed at times has the capacity to remove unnecessary pressures. A fast ride on the bike, a drive in the Lambho, all get the plugs removed from the overloaded ear drums of the world. Life seems lighter, more workable and of greater understanding ? I would think so !!
But thinking or thinking of it, is not enough. The ‘karm’ needs to be done. Delve into it. Search establish and shake all over in the pursuit of that perfect equation. An equation that shall selflessly assist and give need to those that deserve the most.

First of all, I have to say that I have never loved you so much! I saw PAA a few days ago and I literally have no words to describe the emotion I felt while watching that film. From your appearance to your demeanor to your voice, it was just mindblowing. I actually forgot Amitabh Bachchan while watching the film and that is truly a testament to your talent as an actor. My heart filled with joy watching you dance around in the film and my eyes filled with tears watching you suffer at the end. But that compassion wasnt directed toward Amitabh Bachchan it was directed to AURO. The emotion you captured throughout the whole film is indescribable and as a mere student I wont even attempt to capture it in words. I really do not have enough words to do justice to you talent. I want to say that the worth of an actor is not determined by the commercial success of a film but is instead dictated by their dedication to their craft and their ability to affect the lives of others through their work and you have proved time and again how worthy you are! I was also wondering how/why are you so gorgeous? I am asking this in all seriousness because sometimes when I watch your interviews or your films I think to myself that how unfair it is that I will never get to meet a man who is so gorgeous that he puts thousands of men to shame!!
I’m not sure if you YouTube yourself regularly or at all for that matter, but there was snippet of an interview of yours that was posted a few months back. I’m not sure what station the interview was conducted on or who conducted it, all I know is that it was done in July of 1984. As many people know you didnt give many (or any?) interviews in your earlier career b/c of the press ban. I believe it wasnt ’till the late ’80s or ’90s that you started giving interviews, so this interview that was posted was such a treat! While watching the interview I literally fell short of breath!! Although you do many interviews now and while you are extremely attractive now back then you were just mindbogglingly and mindblowingly sexy/gorgeous/handsome!! I was telling my sister that I wished that I could just jump in the TV and land next to you! Also, a lot of people have rare footage of you that they post on YouTube and because many of the interview are from before I was born it’s an incredible experience to watch them now! Its really exciting for me even though they are like 20-25 yrs!

Thanks for the posts. Congratulations on the success of PAA. You have worked so hard for this movie just like you do for all your projects. I have heard lots of good things about the movie. I am particularly interested in this movie as I am a clinical geneticist and I would like to see how you have protrayed somebody affected with Progeria. Lots of the patients I deal with have physical and cognitive challenges. Its nice to see that you are spreading awareness of these individuals through visiting them and through writing. I hope I can get to see “PAA”next week as my children are busy with their exams at present and I want it to be a whole family affair.

I’ve watched ur movie, “paa” yesterday and I want to say, u have done a remarkable job! I absolutely loved it. Having to sit through so much make up and give such great performance is mind blowing (and I had thought sitting through my shaadie make up was a pain lol). I have recently watched some of your older movies, and I’ve loved them as well. You are a CLASSIC =)
Nevertheless, I think you and your wife are really great parents and parents in law. Ash has no limits, and your son & you guys have not tied her down to desi limits. Your family is letting her shine with all her talents and completely supporting her, and I LOVE THAT. I wish more families would let their daughters in law shine. And I love your wife so much. She seems like such a down to earth person.
My parents are just like your wife and you, very loving and supportive. I wish in laws were more like you =) I only know of you guys through what media says, but I am sure what i c in your families eyes is much bigger than that.

Talking about ‘Karm’ or ‘Karma’, there are five truths:
- Ishwar (Controller)
- Jeev ( Being controlled)
- Prakarti ( Human’s nature/behaviour)
- Kaal ( Time)
- Karma
Only Karma is under our control.And you are a perfect example of how may one comply with Karma without worring about result.

you know…today came one of my freinds who only now gave birth to a lovely baby girl…she too was treated in the IVF treatments…and now after she gave birth to this baby girl she got pragnant naturaly without treatments..and she came today to tell me about it….she is very happy…i wish her all the best….but i cried alot today ..not beacouse i wasnt happy for her but beacouse i fill that i am not a natural woman…you see…if i cant bring children into this world then i am not human as God wanted it to be…i cant belive i say this but some times i fill sub human….the most natural thing in this world…bring children into this world..isnt coming natural to me…..yes,this is how i fill…….i just fill bad for me that i dont know what is wrong..no one does…..not the doctors and not eny one…..that is why i fill so bad…that there is no resone for this….
many time ppl talk with me about this and try to comfort and support me by saying that every mother of the foure mothers we have,jews,couldnt bring children to this world.and at the end by the power of God they brought children into the world…but they hurt me more by saying that….they dont know that i got pragnant two times and lost them….they think that i cant get pragnant at all…they say that i cant bring children into this world..and they hurt me so much….its a pain i dont wish it to no women…..never….

Your account of the crafts also sparked off more thoughts about PAA, and that remarkable opening sequence where the MP inspects the exhibits the children have made to show their future vision for India. The camera moves so swiftly, but it’s still possible to love so many of the ideas portrayed there, from the sticking plasters used to patch up the map of India and Pakistan to the chilling notion that soon the only tigers left in India will be the stuffed toys that pupil has placed on display. That is the true beauty of PAA, that SOOOOOO much imagination and love and care has gone into the film on every single level.

Amitji, it is so wonderful that you care so much for your FmXt. Anu has been in my thoughts as I communicated with her over the past few days via e-mail. She was a pillar of strength, along with many other of my blog friends, during my difficult time with my son’s hospitalization. I wish her all the best for a successful surgery, a speedy and complete recovery, and good health for the future.
The name of the school near your house is so appropriate — I can tell how khush your dil was after your visit, and so is mine, after reading your description. Children’s innocence, purity, and enthusiasm is so uplifting and heart-warming. May God bless these exceptional individuals.
PAA is in a class by itself, and it will take a while for the excitement and adoration to lessen in intensity, if it ever does. A good story, well told, will touch the heart. For me, it is a simple “formula”.

Today I got to ride the holiday train which consists of very old subway cars kept in the transit museum. I got off to have a root canal, went back on and saw some of the same people from earlier who probably ride it all day. These trains run every Sunday in December.

It is great for the two of you to come as a team………somehow, your position in the industry, your talent and prowess as an actor and your larger than life reputation thwarts Abhishek’s presence in the movie. Box Office: Paa holds big into week 2

ABCL’s Paa has recovered costs notwithstanding mixed reports from hindi belt and is faring well going through weekend 2, while Radio has been a total washout, and the newly critically acclaimed Rocket Singh has opened to a subpar box office opening. Below the details.
At 15 crores, Paa is one of the smallest budget ‘commercial’ films to come out. However it has also been the case over the years that usually when Amitabh Bachchan gives a hit, it rarely stays a small hit. For example, in 2003, Baghban (Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini) came out of nowhere to become a top 3 grosser of its year and in 2005, Bunty and Babli (Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukherji, Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai) went on to be the biggest moneyspinner of 2005 along with another solid hit in Black (Amitabh Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee). This year, a similar pattern appears to be happening with Paa which has Vidya Balan starring apart from Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan.
To be fair, Paa did not have a boisterous weekdays throughout its week 1. Because its opening Sunday was peaking so spectacularly at one point that there seemed no limit for what the film may have done over the next 4 days. However this frenzy tapered on Monday before going up again on Tuesday (which had even 10pm night shows recording 100% occupancy in several centers). Wednesday and Thursday ending the week were steady. Incoming collections indicate a weekly net around 20 crores though the figure could change to be less or more as more reports become available. It has had a sizeable opening haul considering its entire budget is less than that.
Moreover, these collections have been recovered from a below-norm print release and screening volumes. As a consequence, screening volumes for week 2 will be above par in the major locations. If weekend 1 had modest screenings, weekend 2 screening numbers will not be modest. Paa’s screenings will be high for a film in weekend 2. The 2nd Weekend Saturday and Sunday already have theaters with many of their shows advance booked out, examples being in Bombay, in Noida, in Chennai, and in Ahmedabad.
The overall national 2nd weekend collections for Paa then could then come close to the film’s opening weekend collections which again would be bucking the conventional trend. The 15 crore film is heading for a 40-50 crore final net, maybe even more depending on weekends 3 onwards. Its best collections however are coming from Bombay, South and Bengal circuits. The film is not as strong in Rajasthan and parts of Hindi belt (in fact shares are poor in Bihar) which is ironic considering it stars the Bachchans and is set in Lucknow, UP. Theaters there have reported week 1’s occupancy in the range of 30% whereas in Karnataka, occupancies for Paa over the week were much higher closer to 75% for the course of the entire week which is running 90-100% during weekends.
The film has been compared to other slow starters like Taare Zameen Par and Chak De India, however those films it should be recalled were granted entertainment tax exemptions across multiple key states such as Maharashtra and Delhi very early on, thereby boosting their apparent net collections by a big margin (tax exemption makes film’s gross reportable as film’s net). It is unclear whether Paa will receive a tax exemption soon or not. However given the box office response already, Star network has reportedly acquired the 15 crore film’s satellite rights for about Rs. 10-12 crores, meaning after factoring in additional revenue from music and DVD rights, nearly all theatrical distributor share is essentially going into the profit coiffers of producers ABCL and Reliance BIG Pictures who are also the distributors. If film keeps on sustaining it could end up one of most profitable hits in some time.

You are so right when you say that those children needed to be treated as normal children. That same attitude toward Auro, an fortunate corollary to the way that Balki wrote “Paa”, is more important in my book than any evangelical sermonizing about progeria in the movie could ever have been.
The great gift I received in my youth when I was employed at my state’s School for the Blind was learning to see the children I worked with not as “blind children” but as children…
children who happened to be blind.
In my later years of work at my state’s rehabilitation training center for the blind I worked with adults of all ages. The greatest handicap for all of these people was not so much the blindness itself as the attitude of society that considered them “dis” abled. The great joy of working where I worked was seeing their journey to learning. to realizing that this attitude was society’s handicap, not theirs, and that with the proper training they could learn to be independent once more.
The most important part of that training, which they learned as much or more from one another, than even from their very dedicated teachers, was this transformation of their attitude about themselves, from one of helplessness to one of empowerment.
It is this attitude of feeling, and therefore treating the other as yourself, as your equal, no matter who they are, no matter what physical or mental challenge they might have been dealt in their lives, that is the most important human virtue I think, at the heart of the idea of love at its most profound.
It is what I think of whenever I see that beautiful “namaaste” gesture of India, because when I was first introduced to it I was told it was a form of saluting the spirit, the soul in the other person, which was a part of, related to your own soul.

I’m very sad the FmXt seem to have missed any knowledge of your serious operation five weeks ago. I usually read all the comments every day but I hadn’t picked up on it… I guess it is terribly easy to miss these things.
I have a theory, which may or not be of any comfort. If something gets noticed on the Blog and a few more people also notice it, then it suddenly gathers ‘critical mass’ and many people add their voices. But if this initial response doesn’t happen for any reason… it is very unfortunate but somehow I fear perhaps you were relatively quiet and inconspicuous in your own mention, and there’s that old proverb… the wheel that squeaks loudest that gets oiled. That’s definitely been my experience in life.
So with Mr Bachchan being way more busy than ANY of us, it’s totally undertandable that he can’t possibly register every single thing, every single Blog, let alone respond to all the pleas. And I think with today’s wishes for dear Anu, who many of us now know and love through the blog, I would imagine that another member of FmXt brought the date of her operation to Mr Bachchan’s attention.. hence his opening mention.
Anyway, I do hope you please won’t feel excluded from the fraternity - even though we’re such a big and erratically noisy one - and I do hope you continue to make a good recovery.

Review: ‘Paa’
The father-son Bollywood soap is lush in music and scenery but over-ripe in length.

For “Paa,” veteran Indian superstar Amitabh Bachchan submitted to four hours of makeup to turn him into a 12-year-old boy named Auro, who is afflicted with a rare genetic defect that accelerates the aging process so rapidly that he looks nearly 80. Although the makeup, involving a large prosthetic head, is pretty good, it wasn’t worth the effort, for the film is no more than a tedious, over-long Bollywood soap opera.
Handsome Amol (Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh’s son) and beautiful Vidya (Vidya Balan) meet at Oxford — or Cambridge, since settings at both universities are used. Amol pursues Vidya, even though he plans to concentrate solely on becoming a reforming politician back in India. In any event, Vidya becomes pregnant, the couple break up — but Vidya does not have the abortion Amol thinks she has had. Vidya becomes a gynecologist in Lucknow and raises Auro with the help of her mother (Arundhati Naag.) while Amol, also living in Lucknow, becomes a crusading member of Parliament.
With a loving mother and grandmother and attending a posh private school, where he is treated kindly, Auro, who is precocious and witty, is happy. It is there, at an awards ceremony, that father and son cross paths and the politician takes an interest in Auro, unaware that he is actually his son.
All of this happens early on in the film but writer-director R. Balki stretches out “Paa,” which is “Pa” in Hindi, to an unconscionable 145 minutes that seems all the longer since it’s clear that father and son will eventually learn of their relationship. Meanwhile, time is running out for Auro, who is approaching 13, an age beyond which few with his condition live. Bachchan’s Auro is fairly convincing; his costars are as effective as the genre permits. The film abounds with lush music, scenery and fancy editing flourishes in the elaborate Bollywood tradition.

Balki is inventing some ingenious ways for you to promote whilst keeping your spirits buoyant and what better way to do that than in the company of Auro’s peers - children! I do admire the way you extend your work to encompass so much involvement with challenged children, and yes I ‘always’ repeat myself about it, but many others might have deflected responsibility by saying Paa is not an ‘issue based’ film and therefore doesn’t need to involve itself - but you didn’t and it sounds as though you all shared a delightful day together!
Part of the reason Auro has been such a popular, ‘wonder child’ owes to your love for and ability to empathise and get along with children; indeed you couldn’t have emulated one so well were it not so. Somewhere inside Mr Bachchan’s soul still lives an innocent, warm hearted, fun loving, compassionate little angel who never grew up with the man - and I fervently hope he never will!
I do agree the overwhelming love these little angels are capable of is unparalleled. My university had a voluntary scheme where we as students had the opportunity to work with/look after physically and mentally challenged children in any spare time. I remember it was such a fulfilling experience purely for the love and affection they give. Everyone would walk out feeling so content and blessed by their company - In fact I always believe they are blessed in God’s view. Its just we, able bodied folk with our ‘finite’ mindsets who sometimes cannot see how blessed they are just to be happy and be able to give unconditional love to everyone without prejudice! You are right we have no business pitying them. As Auro demonstrated children have little perception of sickness and wellness or the fact their body is working against them. They don’t sit around nursing their aches and pains as adults do - they are still just children and full of fun and affection!
It is reassuring to know schools like Dilkhush do nurture the creative talents of the challenged. As I said when we were discussing Autism, many challenged children are tremendously gifted in some areas and all have the right to cultivate those gifts and talents and share them in society like the rest of us and of course depending on the disability the creative arts can be very therapeutic.
May the carers and teachers of these institutes be blessed and may you as a generous supporter.
Yes, the days of the week have no delineation for you as you speed through your endeavours. I am delighted you are enjoying this period and you’re certainly still radiating the glow, just as long as you are looking after yourself.
I didn’t get very far with ‘Sarkar Raj’ this afternoon, the telephone kept ringing; but I will continue through the week and of course try to find out if Paa is still showing for that all important second viewing.

Emotional Waves
Scenes of life perceived through my eyes keep changing into waves of emotions. Sometimes the emotional waves are strong, sometimes they are mild, but they do rise every day.
I would like to share with you some of the emotional waves that I have experienced while riding the trams.
Apart from the seats and some of the bodies, everything seems to be moving. Thoughts, eyes, lips, hands, legs and the wheels of the tram. In such an active environment, when I see the struggle of the weak, trembling bodies covered with wrinkles, my heart is sometimes hit by emotional waves – I first feel sympathy which is soon transformed into compassion, and a few seconds later the waves begin hitting my mind and are converted into anger.
Why can’t the strong, the fit, the young, the beautiful, the learned, the academic, the medallists, the gentlemen, the gentlewomen, turn their ever curious rolling eyeballs in the direction of the ‘people in need’ riding with them on the tram. Bodies walking with the support of sticks, eyes covered with black glasses, wrinkle covered hands, white hair, unbalanced trembling legs, hands always in search of support - there are so many visible symptoms of ‘people in need’. But all these visible symptoms are invisible to the apparent ‘owners’ of the tram seats.
Faces of the ‘owners’ are forever turned towards the windows, their eyes taking in the pleasures of watching the free live show: City. Their minds are either wandering in the streets of the past, their childhood, broken relationships, good times with close friends. Or the mind has stopped awhile in the restaurant of the present, pondering financial troubles, problems at home and at work. Or perhaps the mind is travelling in the space of the future, planning marriage, investments, a new job or a new house…
These bodies, hearts, minds, faces and eyes don’t bother with the internal ‘live tram show’, the here and now, where life is offering them the opportunity to become heroes by showing a small gesture of kindness.
Yes, times have changed, for sure! Mud houses are converted into strong cement houses, tall buildings are trying to touch the sky, horse-carts are displayed in museums – but along with the rapid progress of the human race, a few additional changes have also taken place: kindness, compassion, and sympathy are considered old-fashioned. The new fashion is individuality, materialism and professionalism. Slogans are also changing: once upon a time they read, ‘we will achieve together’, now more likely they will say: ‘first come, first serve’.
My heartfelt appeal to everyone: please use your ‘filters’. Don’t uncritically accept everything about modern life, but activate your consciousness. Wheat cannot be eaten without separating it from the hay. Consider your consciousness as the filter. People around you are living beings, not machines. Any one at any time may be in need of your help. And don’t forget: sooner or later you will also become a ‘person in need’.

Watched Pa yesterday. Being an audience I think I have a right to express my views about the film.First of all, it was undigestable that how come a 12 year old child can go to Delhi with a MP without taking consent from the parents of the child? Don’t you think it was such an irresponsible behaviour on the part of the mother( the parent/ gaurdinan) and also the MP who took him to another city without even mneeting the child’s parent. I have a 12year old, I would never send me with anyone so what if the person is MP . As the name suggest and the storyhas been described, bith the father and the son didn’t get enough time to spend with each other knowing that they are father and son. For me it was very dissapointing, i mean the direction of the film, it wasn’t vety tight.

Daisy 60 Good observations about the exhibits the MP inspects in Paa, I wonder if many of these were real projects of real children?
BTW, I’m no angel, nor were the people I worked with for so many years…just dedicated professionals, no more no less than any true teacher anywhere…
just my opinion.
The saying that people doing this kind of job are “angels” I have always been uncomfortable with (I don’t mean you personally, Daisy and Amitji, so please don’t interpret this as a criticism of you, because I do not mean it that way at all…it’s the same thing I would have said before I ever got into this line of work; it’s sorta what I think now about anyone who does emergency medical work, which I’m way too much of a squeamish weenie to ever want to think of doing in any lifetime!) … but when I heard this said to me in the past it always made me feel as if these people thought that I and my colleagues were doing something really hard and terrible ..when the reality was that we got so much more from the students we worked with than whatever we managed to give to them…I merely taught my students skills, but they were manifestations of the universe teaching me much, much more than mere knowledge (although I learned practical things from them, too!).

The ones who drive a lambhorgini seldom have time to think of the under privileged or the ones with special needs. Dedicating a blog for them is a nobel gesture, more so affirming your support for their cause. It is at such times when each one of us must count our blessings and not complain about the more mundane things in life. So what if we cannot drive a lambhorgani or a ferrari, we can at least live in the hope that one day we will because we have the ability to do so, and the day we can, we must not forget about people who cannot.
The reaction to PAA have been in a way revolutionary. Comments coming in from various age groups and different regions, most of them are spellbound with your performance. I doubt if this movie would have had the same effect if YOU did not play the part of Auro.

Thank you for bringing Anu’s surgery tomorrow to the forefront. I am sure she is in all our prayers and definitely in mine. Illness can be so all consuming and I pray that everything goes smoothly with her surgery tomorrow.
Life is full of twists and turns and although we may seem to have our life path charted out, we can often be surprised at all the different milestones that we land on. For e.g. your portrayal of Auro, a child with a genetic disorder, I am sure, has enlightened you in so many different ways, an education in itself. It seems to have opened more doors and opportunities for you so you can empathize and be inspired to follow an almost seemingly invisible path and support children with disabilities and special needs. That has been one of my dreams, but somehow at this point does not seem to ring true or real I should say. But then as you say, thinking or thinking of it is not enough. We must have the “karm” or “rahem” (mercy) to do it. Let’s see.. I hope I understood you correctly.
I was going to say more but my hubby beckoned to come and watch as he said to me “your sort of film” -Julie and Julia - He was right! I thoroughly enjoyed it, Meryl Streep as usual was outstanding.

This is my second reply..!! I am very sorry to say that the film ‘PAA’ did not create any ripple in our city ( cochin/ Kochi/ernakulam). Not because it is bad or lacks crux..!! purely because there was not even a hoarding to announce it’s arrival..Those who are hard fans of yours waited and saw the movie. No time was given to get the crowd to spread the news of it’s greatness. How can one epic movie of Yours move out in 1 week?? Kochi is a place with lot of North indian crowd ( with NAval command) and other floating population. Am very sorry for the lack of professionalism in handling the matter.

My cousin has visited me from london so I took him to see Paa.He loved it very much.He is also a big fan of yours.
I feel really sad and sorry for those physically challenged children but showing that would be underminig their inbuilt talent to make such wonderful things.I wish they can have the same quality of education as ours and prove to the world that they are no less than others.

When I read the word ‘Karm’ in your post above, it seemed to resonate like a tuning fork through me. Perhaps it was the gist of the entire write-up as a whole from Anu of London’s surgery to the promotion of Paa, autism and disabilities.
But what it reminded me of was something else, because of the way it has come up.

Sometime back I was watching ‘The Passion of The Christ’ on a DVD in my friends living room.
As is my usual wont, I sat on the carpet facing the TV and leaning against a sofa. My friends old mother was sitting on the sofa.
I was already resigned to the end as the final scenes of torture began, having learnt the New Testament by-rote in my mission school. But there was something waiting to happen that I didn’t know.
Just as Christ was about to cry the words, this old lady on the sofa behind me said, “Karma!”
I sat up as if hit by a bolt of lightning!
All the readings of Dr. Radhakrishnan, Upanishads, Vedas, Tagore flashed by me in one moment…
Karma, indeed.

I just touched the lady’s feet and sought her blessing as a way of saying thank you, and left the place.

I feel sorry for your troubles and wish you the best that life has to offer. Dear, I have a suggestion - if you don’t mind. This forum will provide you sympathy and love but not help. You need help - not only for whisking your troubles away but also for increasing your self-esteem. You are a very much capable and natural person - someone with all natural abilities to read, write, think, carry your daily chores etc etc. A lack of one ability doesn’t make you any less. Think high of yourself and keep happy.
My suggestions are to look for 1) support forums where you can share your pain and listen to other’s experiences; 2) seeing a therapist or psycologist to seek help to hold yourself high; 3) to think of unfortunate kids that are deprived of a mother’s love and think of helping those to find solace; 4) write down 10 things you are proud of, 10 things you think you are blessed with, 10 things you can do to make a difference, 10 things you are happy about. Start with being happy about yourself. Be grateful and thankful for what you have and as your soul and heart is filled with happiness, you will show a door to your troubles.
I am sorry if I sound preachy. I have had interacted with a very close freind/sister that shares your grief and please please don’t get me wrong , I am just trying to extend my hand of love and warmth to you.

Your reincarnation as Auro seems to have paved the way for many golden opportunities. This is so unlike the usual movie promotions. A cricket commentary on one day - a visit to a special school the next! Vast, varied, and enriching experiences like none other. Auro has indeed brought magic into ur life as well as ours. We rarely stop to think of the suffering of a physically or mentally handicapped person when we see them on the streets. And if they happen to be begging, many even shove them off in haste to keep up with the business of a selfish existence. The mobile phones in fact happen to a blessing for such people, just speak into it and shut the world out.
‘Paa’ has been an eye opener for all. A chance to count our blessings, and empathize and feel for the ones who suffer. To accept them as our equal and as a respectable member of our society. Not to subject them to mockery, not to put them through any more pain than they already are in. Whether it be a stammer or a bedridden patient, treat them with compassion and respect. They deserve it much more than we do.
I once had a young couple (TV serial stars) come to me with their child with complaints of a respiratory infection. The child was examined and we chatted like we do with any other parent. The difference - the child was brought in a wheelchair. He had gargoylism (distorted facial features) and mental retardation, apart from other physical limitations. Such loving parents and such a beautiful child. I see an angel in every little child. They help us to see the light of goodness within us and teach us to appreciate the goodness of the world around. God bless them.

actually my husband took my son Laksh and this angel who is with us, her name is Priyanka to see PAA
She has just now gone to the school, she will feel very sad to know that she could not meet you at her School
Priyanka is from a very small village and living with us for the last 3 years in Mumbai and visits her parents during holidays
I have my own 3 kids one daughter doing MBBS at G.S. MEDICAL college,my second daughter is in 11th and wants to do become an astraunat or wants to do something at NASA and my son is in vth grade at Arya Vidya Mandir

she was a very timid child she never did any activities and her limbs were not functioning properly but today with GOD’s Grace she is an independent child does all her work on her own I am very thankfull to People like Shiamak Davar who is running dance classes for special children without any cost and like you who is also doing so much for them and other needy people GOD BLESS YOU
It will be great if you can give us little time so that we can get Priyanka to meet You she will be so happy how she was when she watched PAA yesterday she was also trying to dance like you in the Movie

But for the first time after seeing PAA did i want to put a genuine effort in appreciating the person who has touched me in countless ways. this is my personal view,
i saw PAA, but relay found its not your cup of tea because you are so senior and you are not on that level where we compair you with anybody in the film industry. A one request dont do these kind of movies. I dont know what is there that people likes this movie (PAA) otherwise if you was not in PAA then its my challenge you cant see this movie as long on the theater.

It was raining in Dubai since last 3 days, now Sun has finally come up….Aarav loved the rain, he wanted to get wet and jump on the puddles but his health doesn’t allow that, he’s already having cough and cold….i was affraid it might increase…..in Dubai children can’t live the life, we had in India in our childhood….i really feel bad for my son, they can’t enjoy their childhood as they should…

Disappointing Sunday….
On Saturday plan to meet Auro in Morn. n Big-B in even.
BUT when go to book tickets on Saturday … Found all Shows of Sunday having Tag “FULL”. RARE thing shown in recent time.
After Loooong time I seen such tag on Booking window, Last I seen it for “Hum aapke hai Kaun.” then after yearsssss I found such Tag mark. It gives me rememberance of “Bachchan Days”.
My baby Saloni (11 yrs old) is surprise how that happen? that all tickets are sold in advance? As she never face such situation.
Also remember young days….. On release of “MARD” , we plan for first day booking. We all went for booking at 7.30am yes 7.30am (booking starts at 10.am), but when we reach at Ambar Oscar (Andheri).. what we seen is there is alreday Huuuuuge line for booking , and they all arrived there at 5am. Having some hope we decide to stand in que… after standing in que for 3 hrs+ … we are not able to get tickets… but got some “police danda” , who appointed to control crowd. When our parents come to know.. they give us strick warrning for going for advance booking.

It is difficult to fight the sympathy only if one is naive enough to look at the competency in the physical self alone; but if one were to dig deeper the handicap of ones own intellect will surface more and more and probably one will righfully see these people with envy ! Many times a healthy physique is the root of complacence , consequently making the person, his actions and thoughts inconsequential, whereas a perceived handicap can be the cause of inspiration (the famous listing of ’short’ people frequenting history texts) to prove that one is good enough despite that anomaly. Sirji there seems to be too much of whooshing going around. Please look into this

do you remember my dear Amitabh,when i got pragnant last time few mounths ago …when i got the treatment for that i had to stay at home to rest and relax….you know what i did all day?i watched your movies and listend to your songs…do you know which song i loved to listen the most:from KHUDA GAWA-RABKO YAD KARO…i listend to it million times…dont know why…i love that song…and i was happy watching you and listening to your songs….my hubby told me that this is why i got pragnant…becouse i was happy..beacouse you made me fill good….who knows…..maybe he is right…

Very fair point about the use of ‘angels’ and the way you talk about this type of work is of course completely true. It’s wonderful to think of it as a two way learning process which enriches everyone involved, but I still believe it’s a very demanding and under appreciated job.
So I think ‘angels’ was just a shorthand way of saying how much awe and admiration I have for people who do challenging and sensitive work with great dedication and patience and for very few material rewards (or in the case of the centre that Mr Bachchan mentions in Mumbai as volunteers). You say you feel the same way about people who do extremely gory front-line emergency medical work - well I’d totally agree with that too - and indeed everyone involved in health care of all kinds. I think we respect anyone who successfully does a job which is so obviously for the huge benefit of other people and yet is something we personally could never - or would never - contemplate doing - often because of our own utter unsuitability and unworthiness for the role.

I am your hardcore fan since 70’s. I just saw PAA. Amazing story, great acting by all (needless to say yours too).
But one thing, you could have avoided some adult words like Semen, Bastard etc and love scenes.
When you are with your kids it is very embarassing to answer the questions when they ask after listening to these words.
If you think those were must in film, than you should have given or take UA certificate.
Hope you understand our culture and appreciate this.

Sir, saw Paa. I liked it , quite witty and a message that despite limitations one can be happy with what ever he/she is having. After long time I saw that an Amitabh Bachhan movie where you have not dominated the screen space , all were presented in proper / appropriate measure (though performance wise you were one up on the others) , “like dal me namak” and this may one of the reasons for good response the movie is getting.Your performance reminds me of Balraj Sahni’s screen presence ,always approprite ,never more and never less. In his case, though an oustanding actor,he was helped by the fact that he was not a super star like you, hence, was for this reason was always never given more screen space than necessarry, rather , he may have been given lesser screen spacethan required and he, by his sheer brillinance used to make it appear, as “prescibed by the Doctor”.I wish to see more of such performances from you and parallelly, pray for commercial success of such movies.
Oh! ya, by the way do try wearing a belt when you are on Big Boss, let us see how it goes with the dress.

Finally I met Auro yesterday. Oh what a meeting it was! Simply loved him and his naughty-ness, the priceless one liners. Especially “Google se bachke kaha jayega” and ‘Pichhalibar mera popat hua tha!’ and so many others! I also loved his expressions and reactions when the girl in his school tries to approach him.
How do you do this Big B? and who choreographed that Auro dance? he/she deserves a pat on the back. I simply can’t get over Auro…nor do I want to.
But let me tell you, I also kept remembering the hard work, the discomfort, the pain that you endured while essaying Auro. Special salute to you for that.

Yesterday i saw the “Paa” with my 3 yr old daughter “Ovi”. as she was telling me from last one week, “baba i want to see the movie”. yesterday that is on sunday i went to cinemax to buy a ticket, afternoon, evening shows are already housefull. i got the just one ticket of 10′o clock (night) show. my daughter was so excited, she saw the full movie sitting on my lap, till 12.30 night. she enjoyed the movie lot, she was doing paa monkey dance standing on my lap. sometimes she claped on some auro scenes. after the movie when we were coming out of theatre she said loudly “baba good movie na” auro is very cute. and that blackgorilla is very bad”.

Arranging donations or giving donations limitize your efforts, the real donation is donating time for them, you can find plenty of organizations which are in existence for doing this for them, but not a single organization which says we donate time for them, very few individuals????
you can contribute a lot for these acts, when your “do boond zindagi ki” can change total concept of polio from india, i am sure if you ask for 30 minutes for these children from india millions of minutes can be arranged for them, which they are asking for, bread they are earning or trying to make them selves indipendent by making small small items,

Sunday, in my world, is a marathon-day. I think as we grow older, we learn the new meaning of weekends. One needs to do what needs be done anyway. Going with the flow and keeping with the speed sometimes means lesser space for any negativity towards self or others.

‘paa’ was a very sensibly directed movie…. hats off to you for the effort taken by you for portraying the child. the approach towards children with such ailments is refreshing, though towrds the end the child’s mannerisms seems more influenced by your signature style.
the movie does create very realistic feelings in us; especially Vidya balan’s character. she has given an extremely genuine performance.

my surgery took place 5 weeks ago, not 5 months, as one of the FMXT probably misread . I have resumed office today, with some moderation. Full recovery should take about 8 more weeks.
And, dears, please I appreciate, AB, is busy, it is just that I felt Sad, considering that he always wishes the FMXT who are unwell etc. So I felt kinda left out. But yes I am one of the quieter ones.

I am ur great fan ….but also a die hard movie buff…the way u r still promoting Paa …I get a feeling that the movie has not got the desired success….ofcourse I have not read ur books of accounts ..so i cannot give my exact comments…but generally it is noted in the film industry whenever a film is not upto the mark as desired…then the producers continue promoting the film even after its release….now since I am also an accountant…I know that any promotion u do will cost you money…Simple fact is if your product is a met with the desired success & u have got ur desired returns…then one does not further increase the cost by promoting the product…….I will await ur comments on this…

I saw Paa this weekend and i fall short of words to express my feelings.. I feel that Paa s one of your Best performances so far and i believe that no soul in this earth would have played thecharacter of “Auro” the way you have played.
I think the other actors in the movie Viz Abhishek Sir and Vidya Mam have also done a marvellours job but our contribution is simply stupendous and there is no match to it.
This probably has been the 1st movie of my life where i felt that there should be no ” The End”. Sir.. you have done a remarkable job and hats off to you.

Hello Sir,
I was waiting to watch PAA from a very long time. I had hoped I would catch it in the cinemas, but unfortunately the movie did not come to a cinema in my city (gold coast, australia) so today was the day when the DVD’s had come to the nearest Indian store and i was lucky enough to be the first one to get a hold of that. It is 1.45 am and I have just finished watching Paa. It is an amazing movie. Loved the way Auro acted in the movie. I have been a baby B’s fan as well for a long time. so this was like a double treat for me.
I feel very good to have shared my feelings with you and Auro about the film.
I also wish a speedy recovery to Anu, may god bless her.
I hope there are many more movies coming from you and Abhishek.

Excellent observation. In the world of entertainment one can’t always look at P/L to gauge the success. Even produccers have made the money I guess the ongoing promotion has nothing to do with sales prosepectus of the product. In my understanding they are trying to create Brand /awareness of Auro which will help to spread the message about hope/positive thinking. In the movie if you noticed there was not a single moment when auro asked for Sympathy he behaved like any other normal human being. We all the time keep whining about our sorrows be at work or personal front but when we look at the charector we realize how strong a peroson can be and even though he is aware that final outcome never he showed any pessimistic approach
I think this message needs to be spread out loudly and thats what exactly Mr Bachchan and team is trying to achieve by further promotion

Firstly, I rarely comment on the blog but felt compelled to reach out to you today. Although I read almost all the comments everyday, I missed seeing your comment today but was drawn to it by “Wisdom’s” reply to you. I was amazed and awed at his compassionate reply to you. Well, I just wanted to share that I also had two miscarriages before I went on to have my two kids. Nobody and I mean nobody, can understand the trauma of going through muiltiple miscarriages unless you have gone through them yourself. I went through similar emotions like you, like I was a failure, felt horrible every time someone announced they were pregnant and so on. Here are some of the things I did, which hopefully may help you too. Like “wisdom” mentioned I went to the online support groups and found wonderfully supportive, understanding women who were going through the same things(multiple miscarriages and desperate for a child). They were of immense help and very valuable suggestions. I also got myself thoroughly tested(found there was nothing wrong with me medically), found and stuck to a very, very nice OBGYN, left my job(delivering a healthy, full term baby became my full time job) and so on. And ofcourse I prayed incessantly and obsessively. I hope some of these suggestions will help you. If you wish I can provide to you the links to the online support groups I mentioned above.
All the best to you and I know you can go on to be the mom you want to be.

Day 599 Post. Subject - Entertainment. I can see the tremendous amount of effort you have put into this article. This is unbelievable! For me to be able to make a comment or attempt to make one, I need to absorb it first which is not going to happen today due to workload. I note the article cautions those who may wish to exploit or manipulate others. Hopefully they will bear this in mind just in case..!
Day 600 - Auro is going strong! Actually when I opened the blog page today, Auro’s picture made me pause for a second and I was thinking that if someone had shown you this picture 40 years ago and had said this is how you would look in the year 2009, you would have thought this to be some kind of a joke! But look where Entertainment takes us! If scientists can make progress in their fields so can entertainers…taking us to frontiers we would never have imagined would be possible, ever.
The problems you faced during and after hosting Miss World Contest…the whole experience must have driven you two steps back and to an extent I can imagine how demoralizing it must have been for you. I would hope that this bitter experience turned you into an even stronger person. You being you, I can imagine your determination… not only to keep going but to prove yourself. You did it and did it well! I do not really know how many people actually carry within them such a level of strength and determination. If your destiny pushed you a step backwards, it also pulled you two steps to the front…the Miss World project did not go according to plan but opportunities for you, in other directions, remained…or you invented them as you went along!
“May we never fall victim to deliberate design of politics and exploitation.” Perhaps you will agree Sir that our inner strength determines our actions if any towards injustices…our inner strengths also determine to an extent the quality of our lives. Sometimes one chooses to fight back with a vengeance, sometimes one weighs the whole situation and takes into consideration what his/her actions will have on near and dear ones and refrains. May at times appear to be a sign of weakness, may really be a sign of wisdom. Remaining silent can sometimes require the greatest of tolerance and strengths.
Day 601 - Dear Anu. May you recover soon from your surgery and be back with all on the blog. I wish you a very happy life with your loved ones. My love to you and your family.
“The media and the channels seek to do programs on the success of the film Paa.” This reminds me, I need to watch your interview on BBC Asian Network sometime this week. I missed it due to a celebration in the family.
You spending quality time with the children near your home is the best present they would ever want. Children carry an element of divinity within them and I believe their joy or a wish for you from their hearts will do you a world of good. Their love towards you will be most genuine, free from pretense. I am sure you will be trying your best to absorb as much love and affection as possible into your system. Your sheer presence there would boost their feeling of wellbeing.
I am sure you will have successfully accomplished anything that you have pursued in your life. You have the capacity to make the impossible possible. I met you yesterday at J W Marriott Hotel in Juhu as a winner of the Idea Contest. I asked you about Shri Harivanshraiji Bachchan yesterday which you answered for quite some time. I would like to tell you that I was pretty nervous of the fact that I actually have you in front of me and that we are talking to each other. I am sure you would remember me as of now. However, I am from Panvel which is roughly 50 - 60 kms from Mumbai. You always come this way and parts of Sholay have also been done here. But you have never graced the city all by yourself.
I want a promise from you being your fan. I know I am a very small person to ask this and I wanted to tell you three more things yesterday.
1. I want to see your house and your way of life.
2. My mom born on 17th September 1944 and dad born on 12th April 1944 who are approximately same age as yours and got married approximately the same time as your marriage i.e. on 15th Oct 1971 are called as Amitabh and Jaya ki Jodi because of the fact that they resemble you so much. here was this incident in 1972 that I wanted to tell you a bout when they were strolling at Juhu beach along with a few people in the evening and people thought that it is you and Jayaji. These people really started calling your names and ran after them to find they were not their idols. They are of very old age now and even they wanted to come along with me to meet you but Idea did not permit because of security reasons. Being a good son like you I want to fulfil their wish. Please help me achieve that anyway as I want to be at least a good son like you have been. I would like to request you to come to my marriage next year to give me your blessings and meet them if you are in India and see for yourself whether you resemble them or not. I will personally come to give you the invitation if you promise me that.
3. I am a very big fan and follower of the ideals of your father. I want you to give me the latest copy of Shri Harivanshrai Bachchanji’s book Madhushala which you revealed on his 102nd birth anniversary with your and Jayaji’s Autograph. I wanted to say this at that time but I could not. By the way I remember the whole poem Need ka Nirman Phir phir that I asked you to recite at the Idea Function and I really wanted to recite it for you.
Please my jeanie fulfil these three wishes of mine.

I am anxiously waiting for your home production The Legend of Kunal, being directed by the brilliant Dr. Dwivedi. However, ever since I have read about the said movie I have been wondering- can this movie not upset a historical myth we have been accustomed to since the first time we studied the ancient india in Std VI-VII history books -the dating of Indian history based on its synchronisation with the Indian invasion of Alexander in 326 BC. According to this Ashoka ruled from 270BC to 234 BC and the Indian history was brought ahead by 1200 years. According to the puranic datings the reign of Asoka was from 1472 BC to 1434 BC, which has been ignored as we continue to follow the british interpretations of our history.
Can your movie not break this myth to the Indians by being set in 15th century BC and not 2nd century BC, ofcourse after thorough research. I am not doubting the wise Dr. Dwivedi but then his mega series Chanakya too was based on the popular history known to the masses- the western view of ancient India- which was disappointing.

Dear Amitji, Good Afternoon. Sunday is a nice routine for you but after Auro as you mentioned the noise has gone up. Auro has certainly developed interest in everyone of your improvising skills. Media has also given very fair reviews of Auro.
Critically speaking Paa takes sometime to sink in mind. So what is true about an individual feeling same is true with mass feeling. Now that the word is spread publicity has no meaning for Paa. It is a product which has attained its critical mass and can move on its own momentum. Media push is not needed so also publicity.
Have a nice day and also relaxation. We can look forward to your other films in 2010. Till then Paa will rule. There is distinct possibility of Paa running ahead of all the new releases of this month. It may be a safe bet for viewers.

I would like to see you doing the Sequal of DON… I want to see more of the first Don… the negative shade… I am a `Hard core Fan’… The negative shade came so easily in your expression. However, I can give clue on how to start it again.. as soon as Iftikar puts the DON in the grave your eyes opens and you escape to another country(can be created with the help of computer technology) started living their and comes back to India… in your new avatar, and starts ruling Mumbai again…
