More than the above there is very little to convey on this day. A year ago we sat helpless and angry at what unfolded before our eyes. A year after, we show solidarity in our feelings, remember those that sacrificed their entire existence so we could be well enough to remember them, make patriotic and emotional statements and get back to doing our job, promoting our films, writing our blogs. All those vulnerable spots that had been attacked are now bastions of heightened security, amphibious armed vehicles, commando units in force one attire, march pasts, hours and hours of dedicated broadcasting, editorials and pictured quotes from celebrities, an abundance of candles and prayer, placards of denouncement and strong will, politician bashing and more ….
But …
In a darkened corner of a home that has lost the light that they looked forward to, that loved and cared for them, that gave them hope and strength, that gave them the security of life .. has been put out permanently ..
And no amount of sympathy shall be enough for them that are left behind with this unhappy and sad occurrence. Mumbai has the spirit and the will to get back under all circumstances, but do they that succumbed, that suffered, that lost, have the will to get back ? This vast and colourful metropolis brings opportunity, an opportunity, that if not taken by ’forelock’ shall either never return or worse, go to someone else !
Commerce drives the city and its people. When that is compromised it reflects the poverty of feelings that surface. Are we in possession of our feelings or are we in possession of our commerce.
Tomorrow shall be another day, another issue, another front to capture or aspire for. Life’s cycle shall take over and grind us into its unending circle of time -

I did listen to poem that you read for 11/26- created by Mr. Joshi- it was very touching, and emotional. Also saw numerous pictures of Mumbai people who are now more secular then ever, and our President and Pm uttering words of solidarity and trying to get justice for those who laid their lives for us. We need to be Indian first and hope that this kind of terror does not occur ever again. God bless our country and countrymen.

Terrorism is a disease that needs immediate cure and unless the roots are removed,cowardly acts will continue.The most affected people are the common people.We can go on and on…..no end to this subject…

I really feel sorry 4 the family of those who have lost their lives..There life won’t be the same again…But its been one year and what has our Govt. done..There are another 1000 terrorists waiting to attack India in Pakistan..The Intelligence has proof that Pakistan Army is training these terrorists…What steps are being taken by the Govt? We have China entering our Borders..Bangladesh is no better..we have Ulfa in NorthEast…Mizoram, Nagaland…and top of that Maoist, who are playinh havoc in Medinapur in West Bengal….
I feel so frustrated…i dont find any answer..How many Lifes are yet to be lost…Its better that the world ends on 21st December 2012…I am really sorry for being so pessimistic…

Today , I had gone to WTC , while getting back, I passed ” Trident” & there was such a huge crowd there, I could see people just standing there & staring at the hotel, just trying to picture the events that happened last year, & I thought exactly your above thoughts! I too felt that, whatever we do , those who expired, will never come back, we just show our sympathy & then we move on with our life.Those who have lost their loved ones, should at least feel better that their countrymen have not forgotten them. We never will.
Waiting to hear your rendition on the above matter. Will it be telecast, if so , when? I am sure , your baritone voice will definitely bring some tears to all of us here after hearing the rendition.
Today’s telecast of BB was very haphazard. The cameramen or the editing is not being done properly.Whatever it is, it was not good.
Next week PAA’s promos will be on BB , right??!!! Will see Abhi & Vidya Balan, & you will, ofcourse be there!!!!! So , I am all excited!

I am in a hurry to write this blog because I was right now watching one of the news channel and all of them are showing the one year anniversary of that dreadful day. They were interviewing National Security Guard (NSG) commando Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s parents. The father had to say that more than losing their son what they are hurt about people in this country not bothering or showing any kind of acknowledgment or sensitivity towards them. Whenever he meets someone and says he’s this brave man’s father, even the so called educated people feign ignorance and simply state that it was his job, so what if he died doing his job. Is this all we can do or show towards these brave men who don’t think twice coming before the line of fire. We sleep peacefully because these guys protect us and how insensitive and ruthless do we get in our sentiments. I am sorry but I can’t seem to look at all the so called frills being created on this tragic occasion nothing more than a facade. We just can’t think of such an incident on this day and forget about it for the rest of the year. We need to acknowledge and show basic respect and concern as citizens of this country.

The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch.
Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree.
He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.
Moral of the story:
Bullshit might get us to the top, but it won’t keep us there..

I watched it too on TOI online and was all awe for that lovely baritone that reached my ears, albeit through the speakers. It was a very comforting but serious message. Count on you to do something special. I had a lit candle in my home throughout the day in remembrance for all those who lost their lives and for all those that still suffer the aftermath. All one can do is pray for peace and harmony to prevail. Amen!

Before I begin my remarks I wish to say a few words on the eve of the first anniversary of the terrorist attack in Mumbai last year on November 26th.
This is a day of remembrance and of paying homage to all the innocent civilians and our brave men in uniform who lost their lives in one of the worst terrorist attacks our country has ever seen. On behalf the nation, I would like to send a message to each and every one of their families that we share their grief with a very heavy heart. We will never forget the suffering they have gone through. Our thoughts are with them as they pray for the souls of their loved ones.
The attack in Mumbai was a calculated attempt by forces outside the country to destabilize our secular polity, create communal discord and undermine the country’s economic and social progress. Such forces should have no doubt that they will fail in their attempts. The supreme sacrifice that so many of our countrymen and women and those from foreign lands made last November will not go in vain.
India’s commitment to an open, democratic and secular society will not be shaken by such assaults on our way of life.
The Government will not rest till we have brought the perpetrators of this crime to justice. This is our solemn duty. We have taken up the matter with all the force at our command with the Government of Pakistan. We expect the masterminds of the attack and their supporters to be tried and punished. The infrastructure of terrorism and all safe havens have to be dismantled.
Within the country we have taken several measures to strengthen our security and intelligence system. An effective response mechanism to deter such threats in future has been put in place. We will take more such steps till we are satisfied that we have foolproof arrangements in place. I wish to reassure the nation that strengthening internal security is the top priority of the government, and we will leave no stone unturned to safeguard and protect the lives of our citizens.

Sir,I was just watching a news channel,how,Kasab was asked after he was captured and was being treated in a hospital,as to what the word’jihadi’meant.And he had no clue!Although that was what he had been called,and was sent as,by the perpetrators of this mission,which ceated such havoc in Mumbai last year!Apparently,a lot of money goes each day,in keeping him alive and safe,to get a fair trial!That’s India.President Obama called India,a responsible nation.Nice to hear,though at times,I wonder,how those,who have lost their near and dear ones,must feel,today,and in the days to come…Would they ever feel peace again?How long to wait,before something worthwhile comes out,of all this mess and each one of us feels safe again….!

Today a year later after the horrific attacks all the news channels talked non stop about the events of last year and the question that most channels asked was ” has anything changed”. The answer sadly is nothing has changed. Last year after the attacks the news channels called various personalities who very eloquently put forth their views on what is wrong in our country and then went ahead with their elite lives. The politicians as usual went on a a finger pointing spree and playing the blame game.. Some politicians were removed from office in a token gesture and others of the same ilk took their place. Some well meaning citizens held candle like vigils all across the country. Today a year later we witnessed the same thing. Same set of personalities coming in their Mercedes cars to the TV studios and articulately talking about the wrongs in the country, the politicians defending themselves and their actions of handling the aftermath of the attacks and citizens again holding candle light vigils. But has anything else changed? Does the common man feel any safer than before. have we learned a lesson from our mistakes. Can we confidently say that we are better equipped to prevent another attack or at least respond effectively to such attacks?
A year later the families of the victims have yet to be compensated, the SRPF has to squat at our national monument, the perpetrators yet to be brought to justice, the victims all but forgotten except by their immediate family and friends and we ask whether “has anything changed”. The answer is glaringly evident. Nothing has changed. There exists a sense of apathy amongst us. We hear about Mumbaikers being resilient. I think its time that we all stopped being resilient. I think its time we all get angry, show our fear and demand for some immediate action. I think its time that the common man show the outrage instead of letting the local politician and their goons show their ability to terrorize the city when some statue has been desecrated or some criticism has been made of their “leaders” views. If not then we will wait for the next act of terror to hit us and then all we will do is have these endless debates and holding these candle light vigils.
Maybe this is the wrong forum for me to be expressing views but maybe not as you Amitji have used your blog to highlight several issues that are important to us all.

Very touching Post. And the line “Are we in possession of our feelings or are we in possession of our commerce” is really thought provoking. I salute all those people who got sacrificed in the terrorist attack and also who sacrifices their lives to save the lives of others without even thinking whether they are saving people of their own caste, state or religion. Their sole aim was to save humanity and Indians. I wish that this incident can make people aware that when we are in a difficult situation we all unite and stand as Indians against adverse conditions so why cant we be Indians when we are in a good and peaceful situation. You know, we can drive away the enemies from outside our country, but how do we fight the people from our own country who want to divide this beautiful lands and want to create social unrest. Among the many victims, parents also were murdered, leaving an orphaned infant.
The baby survived about his keeper Mrs Sendra (Indian woman) until today (about a year since the attack) is located at the family home in Israel.

The poem by your father, Shri Harivansh Rai Bachchanji seems to be written for Mumbai itself…..while reading it I felt the need for it to be in devanagiri script to feel the emotions wrapped in those beautiful lines. fortunately “Auro 4u Bay Area Indo American - AJ” in his/her comment did post the devanagiri script…..now i understand why you must have asked Shri Ram Gopal Varmaji for the film dialogues/script to be in devanagiri script…..

I was a awful what took place in Mumbai on the night of 26/11 last year, its remembered for many reasons, for those whom lost their lives, the bravery of the snipers, the policemen without the correct armour or weapons, the people who tried to help..the politicans were sitting far back, safely in their houses..

This long comment of mine from yesterday fell through the cracks. I then added it later on but I am reintroducing it here nonetheless:
A beautiful post in every sense even as one is now accustomed to getting these ‘gifts’ from you. Your best writings involve reminiscence. This is a mode of writing I am in any case very partial to but in your case these also offer genuine insights into your mind. Which is as it should be. Authentic writing makes reveals the writer. I do not mean this in the easy ‘biographical’ sense.. all good autobiography is first and foremost an absorbing and entrancing ‘fiction’. The factual can be verified but it can never lead to the deepest truths. Which is biographers and not artists and very rarely when one does come across the great biography one discovers the literary within it. When you write about your father you write far more about yourself! This is the truest value of those words beyond the obvious reverence that one can detect in them.
But there is also a contrast, one I’ve referred to in earlier responses. Yesterday you asked whether some of us still thought you were doing too much and I responded in the affirmative. I was thinking then not of the films as such but just your general routine and the physical toil it seems to put you through. My sense has for quite sometime been that you should ‘take it easy’. Even better sense has made me realize that you are unlikely to follow any such advice! What does all of this have to do with your reflections on your father and his poetry in this post? Well, consider the ‘time’ of the poet, always ‘other worldly’.. which is to say always out of ’sync’ with the ‘time’ of the present and certainly any traditional notion of the ‘calendrical’. This is paradoxically what makes a poet ‘timely’ in every age for those who have ears for poetry and its deepest meanings. If a poet were totally tethered to his ‘time’ he or she would be a rather superficial one. Of course there are countless examples of artists very successful in their own lives, those are the fortunate ones.. who can somehow satisfy their immediate audiences. But even in these instances the judgment accrued over time is always the more significant one. There is any case this ‘time’ of poetry, ‘time’ of art. There is that well known passage in Ecclesiastes:
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
These are lines that have reverberated through the ages and with good reason. And yet this is ironically enough not a formula for poetry and art. In a Biblical worldview (not only here necessarily) the ‘timeless’ is usually associated with the divine. Hence art cannot be allowed such permanence. But it is precisely this notion that art and poetry always challenge.
It is this that is to be opposed to life’s frenetic pace, one that is often ‘chosen’. If one thinks of mortality in one’s advancing years one will have been human, if one embraces it one has been a rarer human. But the frenzy of one’s routine can neither evade that void that such reflection opens nor make it somehow more palatable. In other words one cannot be ‘poetic’ on the side. In your case, interestingly enough, every time you get back to the blog after a day of extraordinary activity, you are often ‘unburdening’ yourself. Almost a kind of cleansing that must occur after the ‘dust of everyday life’. But there is a deeper meaning to this. The blog allows you to be spontaneous, certainly talk about what is most important to you, it allows you to be ‘reflective’ and ‘poetic’. This side of yourself clashes with that other ‘hyper-energetic’ one where even much younger peers of yours can only comment in awe at your drive and abilities. You hold this tension together every single day. You take both poison and palliative on a daily basis. The ‘routine’ that keeps you occupied but also perhaps increases your angst. Has time been well spent? Has one reflected enough? Has one lived meaningfully? Did one love enough? Do enough for loved ones? Is there still time to redress things? CUT. One is then busy with the day’s activities. CUT. Those thoughts keep returning, torturing even. And so it goes.. a game of hide and seek perhaps throughout the day. What one wants to think about and what one wants to evade are often the very same thing. At the end of the day silence and peace.. one economizes.. one accounts for the day.. if one writes in the middle of the day or before beginning one’s day there is a sense of one asking to be ’sent off’ with wishes and prayers. But this is what anchors life. Because one has never been allowed to ‘be’.. for many decades at least.. allowed to ‘be’ or to ’say’ what one really wanted.. this is then a massive site of ‘confession’.. where the fiction of autobiography emerges.. one then undoes what one has been doing elsewhere during the day..

Prabhu Devaa suggests that Abhishek will begin a project with him mind-2010. I talked about this a bit the other day but what has really cheered me is the rumor that this might be a remake of Okkadu/Ghilli. Having seen both films and being especially a fan of the former I cheer this possibility! I have always rued the shelving of Ranveer as you might recall from some of my responses here. Shaad Ali today seems to me a better fit than Santoshi (as was originally intended) but Prabhu Devaa certainly has the right energy as director to manage this script. I was earlier a bit nervous as I wasn’t sure if it was going to be another Wanted kind of project where I think that the Bombay audience wouldn’t be quite as conducive (even if I’m a fan of this original also). But a script based ‘masala’ narrative is the right way to go and certainly an Okkadu remake would satisfy this condition for me (again assuming this is the suggested script). I would only offer two suggestions here with I suppose my usual misplaced confidence in assuming I can offer serious advice to anyone (!) — the actress in the remake should be a relatively important one but also the right one. However I think that Asin or Ileana (the actress in the Wanted original) would not at all be bad ideas for the Okkadu remake. Rani Mukherjee had single-handedly destroyed her career but she too would have been great here. I loved her pair with Abhishek. Sadly it never got the kind of exposure it truly deserved. I have never seen an actress commit professional suicide the way Rani did after her fantastic ‘04 and ‘05. She is still so radiant on the dance show she now judges that it’s sad to see her reduced to this. In any case this sort of masala subject requires a significant actress. And equally importanty, a significant soundtrack, which means something with a couple of instant winners. I think Wanted was lacking in both departments. Masala functions on star capital and obvious frills like a chartbuster or two and so forth. One shouldn’t forget this. Would love to see Abhishek handle some real action as well as he’s been very effective the couple of times he’s done so (Run, Yuva).
The larger point to be made here is that I am absolutely thrilled with Abhishek’s lineup. Either there has been a remarkable coincidence of factors here or he’s seen the light all of a sudden! Whatever it is this sequence is simply extraordinary. He’s really zeroed in on everything! before he became successful I always used to feel that he had the potential to be able to do this. Re-order the entire equation. But after his very strong ‘05 following up on a good ‘04 there were some missteps. It is true that not everything goes as planned and yet certain mistakes could have been avoided. There was definitely a loss of momentum in some ways. But it’s part of a learning process and as long as one has that ability one can come out stronger at the other end. This sequence (I keep repeating this) is a truly exciting one and I am very glad to see him finally (yes FINALLY!) attempt a true blue hardcore masala film!

One complete year has passed. At the same time last year I was filled with anger and frustration to see the audacity with which the attacks were carried out from across the border. They made a complete mockery of our defense mechanism, where in helpless guards were left to confront AK-47 armed terrorists, with their rusted guns. It is an event which will never be erased from anyone’s mind. 60 hours of terror and anguish that left a billion hearts bruised.
After one complete year it is time to ponder if our other critical establishments are secure. What are our learnings from the event? Have we implemented them well? Why only the government, are we the citizens more alert to any suspicious happening in our vicinity? Many such questions still remain unanswered.
We must be thankful to God that we are alive to discuss the issue. There are many who have paid with their life, many who have been martyred. They shall never return to this world again. Many kids have lost the soothing presence of their parents, many have lost their loving spouse, caring siblings and list goes on. For them no amount of consolation would be enough. Neither would they be able to forget the eventful day.
I was also pained to read that many families are still waiting for the compensations to reach them. Is this what the family of soldier, who has paid the ultimate price, deserves?

You are absolutely right in your poignant reminder that of course no commemorative gestures can fill the vacuity for those who mourn their loved ones today, and shall continue to every day of their lives. I had not overlooked this during my contemplations, of course we cannot forget them, for this day is centred on them; but in terms of practicality what can we do!? Sympathy itself is a hapless sentiment and only encourages one to pity the other from a distance - pity cannot mend a broken spirit or rebuild a life. I suppose a year on we are still somewhat helpless to those suffers of this terrible fate and can only pray one day soon they will be empowered to seize life as it moves forward with its usual ruthless rapidity!
And what an appropriate time to celebrate your father’s impact on the world with the inclusion of that delicious verse from “Jeevan ki aapa dhapi mein”. In fact when I refer to your father’s poetry as timeless and prophetic, as I did in yesterdays comments, I usually have this poem in mind. The words are utterly indicative of our times, city life and of the relentless pace of modern existence.
Some very lovely messages of appreciation for your work on 26/11, especially from Vinod Kapri who has quite accurately mentioned the hope, strength and trust your tone encourages. You do breathe life and add power to any words, whether in written format or spoken it’s not just your voice, it’s the heartfelt conviction supporting them that reaches heart and soul of the recipient. You will be an imnportant part of the healing proccess for the nation. I hope too your anxiety is placated, I seem to remember you were apprehensive as to whether the impact your recording for ‘Iss baar nahin’ would be conveyed to the world correctly - it certainly was!

I am certain we all remember many accounts of the selfless acts of courage by those who endured the 26/11 tragedy. In the face of such evil was an unquenchable thirst for good to prevail! That attitude is at the core of all human triumph, whether it be in small or great ways. Seeing ourselves as capable of rising above circumstances lays the foundation for a life well lived. So as I travel the road of life I must do my best to take time to reflect on my decisions. In this way I will be able to fully choose my way and my attitude. The focus cannot be what happens, but rather how will I choose to respond to what happens! This is not the answer to living an easy life-there is no such thing-but it will ensure that I leave this world a little better than when I found it. Every situation in life has the potential to allow the greatness of the human spirit to shine forth. I have seen it first hand in the lives of my family and friends. Perhaps we can call to mind these words of Viktor Frankl, “when we are no longer able to change a situation-we are challenged to change ourselves.”

My thoughts and prayers have been with all those who lost their loved ones on that tragic day one year ago. From so far away all we could do was stare in shock at our TV sets and pray for those innocents who were caught and lost in all that burning heartlessness.
Then they show films like Dev and Bombay, which also serve as reminders of the ugliness that pervades our spirits,when we lose sight of brotherhood and spend so much useless time and energy planning and plotting the fate of innocent people.
I was just about to look for your tribute to 26/11 as I am reading all these comments and then I see Satyam has posted a link. Thanks Satyam! The rendition was full of pain and sadness and brought life to the words of Prasoon Joshi.
I wish we could hear your tribute for your father on Saturday. His poetry is simply wonderful and athough Urdu poetry is sometimes difficult to grasp, it is nevertheless so beautiful in its entirety and sheer sensitivity. I hope I can pick up Madhushala here from the book stores or I may have to ask somebody to send it for me from India. Thank God for all the beautiful souls that He has created (like your father) who are able to transport us into a kinder, gentler world - which definitely exists!

I am very overwhelmed and extremely emotional and have no idea how to express my pain and anger and frustration. I don’t know how to stop the tears streaming down my cheeks and I don’t know how to stop the flood of memories of this awful day a year ago. The mind understands to some extent the decisions taken by our leaders but the heart does NOT. It demands ANSWERS which it will never get and 26th Nov. like many other dates has now gone down in Indian history. Future generations will learn about this day, memorize the date for their history exams and that will be that.
For all those who lost their lives on that day trying to defend the city, fighting with whatever they had, what can be said except that I keep my head high every time their names are mentioned. I try not to choke on my tears every time I see them on TV. I am proud of them and my soul bows to their sacrifice. The families they left behind, ohhhhhhhh, I can’t even imagine their pain and I will not pretend to. May God give them the strength, May God give them the strength…………….

Jai Jawan , A prayer for all those people who lost their lives for the country. There should be some kind of a remembrance day like we have a poppy day in U.K. We buy a poppy and the money collected goes to the families of the people who have given their lives for us.

It is a shame that the person responsible is enjoying his biryani in the most secured place. What has been offered to the families of people who gave their lives for India?
So many questions, unanswered. Is it safe now in India? or any part of the world? Why so much hatred? Why terrorists? What do they want? Will one day of mourning bring the people back? What happens after 26/11 or 9/11 or 7/7 ?????
As if it is not enough, we also have to deal with the catastrophic conditions of nature. Instead of making the world a better place, what are we doing? The answer to the last question is, we are just sitting on a comfortable chair and writing our comments and feeling sorry for everyone and giving ideas as to what we should do next!!!!

With kind thanks to Satyam I’ve just seen the link to Prasoon Joshi’s poem Iss Baan Nahin. Your rendition to this was so moving and sad. I found my heart breaking just listening to you speak those words. Such a touching tribute and so beautifully done.

Another year has gone by and so true that the safest person in this country is indeed Kasab. The Government has and continues to spend millions to keep him safe. Kasab should be given the death sentence and the trial must proceed at a pace which is faster than the time it takes to blame ourselves for the follies that 26/11 has brought about. In parliament yesterday our glorious political leaders chose to have a spitting match, no iota of remorse whatsoever. The lights that have been put out were first blown off the candles with callous attitudes from our politicians.It is unthinkable that the Prime Minister is not in the country on the anniversary day. I have commented in length on the last two days as 26/11 approached including on your rendition of “iss baar nahin” and the video on day 582.
” Commerce drives the city and its people. When that is compromised it reflects the poverty of feelings that surface. Are we in possession of our feelings or are we in possession of our commerce.” - The vast majority of this country are in possession of neither as they are so caught up spending every second of their lives trying to fight the daily financial vagaries and have no strength to “literally ” drive commerce and when they fail they lose their feelings as well. This is the cycle of life for them but they do not forget to pay their taxes.
On the other hand we have the minority who attend Presidential banquets at the White House, the minority that are otherwise known as the influential people of this country, the social elite. Successful in their chosen fields, driving the commerce of this country, responsible for determining our per capita income. The numerical process of determining the per capita of the country would be the only time when the wealth of the rich gets divided amongst all. A notional process. Wealth for this minority creates more commerce, they are in possession of their feelings and of course commerce. This is the cycle of life for them but most forget to pay their taxes.
We look at our leaders to keep us safe, our leaders are more worried about keeping themselves secure not just on the physical front (With their Z class security and other VIP benefits)but more importantly on the financial front. As a taxpayer, I am empowering the Government with my money to protect me, the Government is not doing me a favor. But my money goes into the pockets of people like Madhu Koda who has laundered unimaginable vulgar amounts which can make any tax payer’s head reel.
When the vast majority of this country who are neither in possession of their feelings or commerce pay their tax, we are still the people who are left with a begging bowl. We remain beggars, begging for our own security.
” Government work is God’s work ” - remains the motto on the magnificent Vidhan Soudha that catches the eye as one drives past this structure in Bangalore.
We have no recourse, we will skip a level and deal directly with God, beg him to keep us safe while our Government continues keeping Kasab the safest.

I have just watched and heard your rendition…thanks for Satyam for providing the link for us to watch. Great that it has English subtitles so I can understand the words, but the music and your voice reciting these powerful words have touched and moved me deeply.
It was indeed a difficult and cruel day for India, and one that cannot be removed from the memory of the Indian people easily. I lived it as well with you, as I was following it in the news channels live till the first threads of light of the next morning.
It is really saddening and heartbreaking to see all these photos of the people who were affected, wounded and killed by this incident. Nothing can ever compensate for the loss of life of the victims and those who fought this battle to defend their country. May prayers go for these victims and for their families.
I have watched Agneepath last night…and like the first time I watched it, I was stunned and amazed by you and your brilliant, intense and serious performance.

Hi Mr. B. Tragedy has a way of uniting people and I see a new unity in the people of India. I also see a renewed unity between the people of India and the US. Mr Obama paid tribute today to the people who lost their lives last year and every news report has had a feature on what happened. The tragedy of our 9/11 and Indias 28/11 have formed a bond between the countries that only such unfathomable cruelty can produce; a sense of innocense lost. One striking difference to me is actually seeing the victims. As you know, there were very few actual bodies after 9/11, just “remains” and I was struck by how much harder is was to see the actual victims instead of pictures of them. कुछ देर रहा हक्का-बक्का, भौचक्का-सा,
आ गया कहाँ, क्या करूँ यहाँ, जाऊँ किस जा?
फिर एक तरफ से आया ही तो धक्का-सा
मैंने भी बहना शुरू किया उस रेले में,

जितनी ही बिरमे रहने की थी अभिलाषा,
उतना ही रेले तेज ढकेले जाते थे,
क्रय-विक्रय तो ठण्ढे दिल से हो सकता है,
यह तो भागा-भागी की छीना-छोरी थी;
अब मुझसे पूछा जाता है क्या बतलाऊँ
क्या मान अकिंचन बिखराता पथ पर आया,
वह कौन रतन अनमोल मिला ऐसा मुझको,

मुझ पर विधि का आभार बहुत-सी बातों का।

To be frank and honest with you I thought I should have talked with you in Hindi.. then I realised it does not matter.. it does not really matter as you were a PhD. on Yeats and in English Literature.. does it really natter.. I mean does te language really matter when one has to express.. sometimes just the silence is much more communicative than the language or the words we speak..
I know last year it was one of those acts of terror that had shook Mumbai like never before.. that we could not really be in a wishing mood the next morning.. this year brother Amitabh has organised a Bachchan Sandhya at Bhavan’s auditorium.. I am unable to e part of it.. jisake naseeb mein jitana likha hai use na usase jyada na kum nahi mil sakata..

चलिये आपसे कुछ और बात करने से पहले मैं यह बता देता हूं कि आज मन में कोई दुविधा नही है, मैं इस बात से नाहक ही परेशान था कि आपसे कभी मिल नही सका जहां मन मिले हों वहं तन का मिलना क्या कुछ मायने रखता है । इस बात का मुझे संतोष है कि मै अपनी भावनाओं को कम से कम व्यक्त तो कर सकता हूं इस पर तो कोई पाबंदी नही है, किसी किस्म का पहरा नही है, किसी टिकट या पास की भी कोई आवश्यकता नही है फिर मै अपने मन की बात क्यों न कहूं ।
आप जिस लोक में आज निवास करते हैं वहां के बारे में मुझे अधिक सूचना या जानकारी नही है फिर भी कहीं आस-पास ही श्रीमती तेजी बच्चन का भी निवास स्थल होगा इस बात में संशय नही है, आप लोग एक दूसरे से कभी-कभी मिलते है या नही । किस तरह का जीवन रहता है वहां, लेखन सामग्री इत्यादि उपलब्ध रहती हैं या नही और कविताई कैसी चल रही है, मैं तो यही चाहता हूं कि आप अपनी कविताओं से उस लोक में भी सभी को आनंद प्रदान करते रहें । मातामयी तेजी जी को भी अगर संभव हो तो मेरा प्रणाम अवश्य ही पहुंचा दीजियेगा ।

Haa. the best irony is that Kasab is today the safest here..crores spent on keeping him safe .. no relief to victim’s families yet!!! Life has still moved on to with their families. and others who have helplessly watched. But this is an unforgettable and unforgivable crime. An immediate action must be taken and accomplished and not keep it as ’still going on issue…’.
Enough is Enough.. its time that the culprit is punished and the victims’ families are given their due! Your excellent rendition of ‘Iss baar nahin’ says it all !!!

Yesterday 26/11 completed its first anniversary, & yes the most secured person in the city since past 1 yr is Kasab.
Its harsh reality, a yr back none of us would have imagined that such will be the situation.
The only thing I feel is that nxt yr same day the trial is completed & the guilty is sentenced so that those who are no longer with us can rest in peace. Thats the least we can do for them.
Todays a special day, your father’s 102nd birth anniversary.
Tomorrow shall be another important event as the new edition of Madhushala is released & entire family shall be a part of it & contribute in their own way.

26/11 the most horrifying & tearful incident.I feel sorry for the lost lives.I donot have words to console the families who have lost their loved once.It makes me gloomy when I think of the pain they must have been through.When I heard Maj.Sandeeps father saying on CNN-IBN that still sometimes he dials his sons mobile no…it brought me to tears .

Its true that we have to spend crores to save the guy responsible for the carnage, but what are options here? Let him be on the streets so we can mob him and lynch him? Shoot him at an encounter? Give him poison? Send him back to where he came from?
None of this is an option, so we are spending so much money and resources for only one thing. We cannot bite a dog that has bitten us. The whole world is watching and we have to set yet another example to the world. I had heard you reciting Prasoon Joshi’s Is Baar Nahin….a couple of days ago on tv, and for hours afterwards, I was filled with a melancholy which I could not shake off….the words, your voice and the emotion therein, and most importantly, the occassion for which it was written - everything was too profound for any human being to have taken in their stride. I, however, missed your song yesterday….but I shall hear it - no question of not!
Your blog today is filled with pain for those that lost their lives and more for the families who have been left to their fate, to deal with their grief. Your feelings have just poured out into word form! It seems no amount of adulation, no amount of recognition and being felicitated, by the World of Cinema and by Heads of State/Governments all across the world too, can ever erode the humane-ness and the kindness which is inherent in you….bless you!!

In a darkened corner of a home that has lost the light that they looked forward to, that loved and cared for them, that gave them hope and strength, that gave them the security of life .. has been put out permanently ..
And no amount of sympathy shall be enough for them that are left behind with this unhappy and sad occurrence.”
You couldn’t have been more lucid Mr. Bachchan, but I would like to say here that wishes and prayers coming from the heart, do reach, sustain and give succour to the bereaved. And in this context, that would mean the sympathy of the common man towards his bretheren who’ve suffered irrevocable losses in this horrific carnage! When we focus our energies in all earnest and come from a state of love, our sympathies and our prayers do have a positive effect on those grieving families. So never wonder about the futility, and never feel discouraged….just continue to pray for those souls from your Being, and for their families who’ve been left behind, and it will help them definitely! Prayer and love are the two tools which God has gifted us with, which can be put to use as efficiently and as precisely equally by both, the unlettered and the highly qualified beings! And the beauty of this Gift is that one does not even need to know the receipients personally, for it to be given to them!! So, let us all continue to pray, for those families who have lost their all, in this bloodbath a year ago. I am positive that atleast the prayers of our FmExt here on the blog, with their sense of empathy and genuine love, will have a positive effect on them, and that divine intervention will help them to surmount their grief.

It sure is a concern, but at the macro level, as a country, we have time and again proved our secularism.
All the things that happen, the decisions taken by our leaders, there are numerous factors that need to be considered.
India has never been a country who just for vengence has destroyed so many other innocent.
It is our belif - Satya Mev Jayte - and it is the victory of the truth which is the final verdict.
There is a delay in makin people realize, but its a gradual process.
50 yrs ago we were fighting the foreign rulers, today we are fighting internally. All we need to do is stay united and fight the differences.
These things are earier said than done.
If we as individuals want to pay back the martyrs for their sacrifices all we need to do it vow that we will stay united and make all efforts to iradicate the differences prevalent in our society.
I am not a good writer but these are my thots towards the dos and donts.

good afternoon,
writing late today as my internet connection was down. Saw your rendition of “is bar nahin”. It is so strange that tax payer’s 31crore rupees have gone in keeping Kasab alive. And it is truly ironic that he is the safest man in the country today.
I do not think that we are still so much prepared that we can prevent 26/11 from happenig again. As long as politicians like Madhu Koda, corrupt beuraucrats and irresponsible citizens in this country exist it is very easy for outsiders to slap us in our face by doing such things. Even after so many years of independence we are not in a position to take independent decisions and have to take permission from America before taking any action. After 26/11 our forces were not entirely prepared to retaliate. This is the situation after so much of money is spent on maintaining our armed forces and people who are beleived to be the best brains are in-charge of things.
We need people like Sachin Tendulkar who have the spirit to do something for the country, who think that thery are Indians first then anybody else, to be a strong and independent nation. We are not the best but have the potential to be the best.

Sirji….amphibious armed vehicles which I saw in middle east 11 yrs back and now it has been brought to India. Why we are so much delay in our thought/decision and compromising with our internal security.Now everyone is busy securing Mumbai so the terrorists are aiming the least soft corner of our country and that is North east where easily they are sneaking from the Chinese or Bangladesh side and carrying suicidal or mine blast and going back in their hiding. Now coming to the reason, I just woke up from sleep seeing a dream. In my dream i saw myself telling Abhishek that he has done an amazing job in the film Paa, i was saying, that despite your role was short in length i thought u did a great great job! He then told me to tell you on call, so he dialed your number and made me speak to you. When i spoke to you i told you how incredible Abhishek was in the movie and you were very happy!
I woke up from sleep very puzzled because maybe a week back i did watch the promo of your movie Paa. But how i saw this dream i dont know. So i thought i’ll post it on your blog to share it with you. Anyways wish you and the crew all the best of luck for the film.

Hope you will look into this message as top priority, Paa is much anticipated, however, if you could find out about a child named “KULJEET” in MP/CG, rather in CG about whom a small news report was shown on a local channel you will be moved to see, this young man suffers from the same genetic disorder like AURO and has an uncanny resemblance to him. Kuljeet is like any other child, very adorable and his spirit is something to watch out for, he is born into a poor family and still wants to be a doctor when he grows up, theres always a smile on his face which is divine, I beg you to find about him and i’ll be the most happiest person if you could lift kuljeet up in your arms and give him a peck on his cheeks.

There is a Shiva Temple back in Muscat and a painting is hung on a frame on the wall behind the shivlinga.
It shows Shiva in Kailash, Ganpati on one side, Parvati on another and to my surprise Hanuman standing in namaskar.
I was wondering if the painter knew something that I didn’t. I had asked the pujari once, but he was not too sure how Hanuman, a Shri Ram bhakt happened to be in Kailash.
The mystery just cleared as I was reading Tulsidas’ Ramcharit Manas.
Shiva heard about Shri Rama from Sage Agasthya and actually visited the parnakuti where Rama was living in exile.
This is the first time I read a connect between Shiva and the Ramayan. The Vishnu purana and Bhagavatam do mention some, but most are very mythical.

“A year after 26/11, the safest person in the country is, ironically..…Kasab” is a telling comment on the state of affairs in our country. We need to learn a few lessons from the Americans, who post 9/11 have left nothing to chance and have taken some very harsh and definite steps towards defeating the evil designs of these terrorist organizations. They have used their economic and military might, coercive diplomacy and strategic alliances to take on this menace. Considering the mess that our immediate neighborhood is, we need to be on our feet all the time. We need to take the initiative and help our neighbor restore some normalcy there. We need to understand that our safety and well-being lies in the establishment of a strong democratic government there. Instead, we tend to derive vicarious pleasure from their troubles. Do we really want their government to collapse? Have we ever thought about the consequences if the controls of our nuclear-armed neighbor were to fall in the hands of these terrorists?

Dear Amitji, Good Afternoon. Yesterday 26th November was a solemn day for everybody. I too tried writing many times to respond on the blog but words failed me time and again and at night after typing first paragraph many a times I chose silence over words. Those who gave their life were also ones amongst us in one way or the other. How much ever we loud their sacrifice we may have no answere to the big voids in their families future. One may console that time is a heeler but honestly nothing heals the wife who lost her husband or children who lost their father or parents who lost their son. It is a life like that of a tree whose one main branch is cut. It grows forever with that loss and its shape is lost forever. How so ever big it may become but the missing branch space is empty for ever. So are lives of families which see their loved one sacrifice life. Their emptiness will be a lifetime void.
My fingers refused to work with words in the late evening yesterday. A year back I was writing about judging a tandoori roti when it all started in Taj kitchen. Later days also we saw pictures on TV and now many of those are forever embedded in our memory. One was of Mr Hemant Karkare wearing his protective gear. All lost when we lost the brave men.
Kasab certainly is not the safest person as you mentioned above. A man awaiting judgement can not be safe in his heart. He knows his final verdict will be what. Yes we owe a lot to Tukaram Obale for catching him alive despite facing storm of bullets from the same gun. We owe our safety to such brave men. They will certainly live forever as martyrs.
Today is birth anniversary of your father and when I read the last para which you reproduced from his writing I felt he is in front of me. That is the power of the written word. May his soul rest in peace. May his writings live forever in his chosen words.
My regards to those who give meaning to life and sacrifice for us to know someone embraced death because Country came first. We salute our brave men who gave their life during 26/11 last year.

India has just finished on the wiining side in a Test Match for the Hundredth time.. yeah!
As team India trounced the Lankans by an innings and 144 runs no one would have thought of them to achieve such feat especially after trailing by 334 runs in the first game where they were underdogs and we all thought that India would hardly be able to save their face on Motera.. but then that is history.. India did well their to save the game.. however.. the wicket at Motera was devoid of any support to any kind of bowlers..
Yet the win here at Kanpur has come on a wicket that was supportive to the spin it is a different matter that comeback man Sreesanth a medium pacer by nature earned the player of the match award.. congrats Sree.. I know one thing for sure.. even if you go for runs you do produce atleast 1 out of every 10 balls a ball that is capable of getting a wicket.. and that alone justifies your inclusion among the eleven man playing for India.. especially the test cricket.. Well done..
Dhoni bhaiya would not have been as happy to have won the toss here yet it was very important to win the toss and elect to bat to win this game.. Brabourne stadium of Mumbai which had not been used for cricket for many years gets a full fledged test match owing to repair and renovation work at Wankhede.. maybe the DY Patil deserved it more.. the test match.. BCCI has its own set of rules.. and I am not questioning them on picking Brabourne ahead of Nerul stadium.. it is all right.. It is not that I would have gone to watch the Test match had it been played at Navi Mumbai.. so I have no reasons to query their action..
Coming to cricket than to its administration.. the kind of start the Kanpur had with 200 plus runs for first wicket and 167 by Gambhir and the centuries by Sehwag and Dravid laid the foundation for this win yet one of them was not considered as player of the match.. it is all right.. Sreesanth did need encouragement on his return though I feel the booty could have been shared between him and Gambhir.. We would love to see if Gambhir could pick his fifth consecutive hundred in the next test..

Is India waiting for a repeat of the 26/11 attacks? India has failed to take any effective steps to root out terrorism.
In the 26/11 terror attacks ,besides Indians citizens of US,Australia,Israel and UK were also mercilessly killed by the Pakistani terrorists.
India should take all the affected countries into confidence and attack terrorist camps in Pak-occupied Kashmir. While India continues to contemplate how to deal with Pakistan ,the terrorists could be planning another attack.
Terrorism has to be rooted out completely to ensure peace in the world.
Time is ticking away and the danger of terrorism is looming large over our country. Wake up India before it is too late.

को ज़माना ही पड़ा था
पत्थरों से पाँव के
छाले छिलाना ही पड़ा था
घास मखमल-सी जहाँ थी
मन गया था लोट सहसा
थी घनी छाया जहाँ पर
तन जुड़ाना ही पड़ा था
पग परीक्षा, पग प्रलोभन
ज़ोर-कमज़ोरी भरा तू
इस तरफ डटना उधर
ढलना पड़ेगा ही, मुसाफिर
साँस चलती है तुझे
चलना पड़ेगा ही मुसाफिर!
शूल कुछ ऐसे, पगो में
चेतना की स्फूर्ति भरते
तेज़ चलने को विवश
करते, हमेशा जबकि गड़ते
शुक्रिया उनका कि वे
पथ को रहे प्रेरक बनाए
किन्तु कुछ ऐसे कि रुकने
के लिए मजबूर करते
और जो उत्साह का
देते कलेजा चीर, ऐसे
कंटकों का दल तुझे
दलना पड़ेगा ही, मुसाफिर
साँस चलती है तुझे
चलना पड़ेगा ही मुसाफिर!
सूर्य ने हँसना भुलाया,
चंद्रमा ने मुस्कुराना
और भूली यामिनी भी
तारिकाओं को जगाना
एक झोंके ने बुझाया
हाथ का भी दीप लेकिन
मत बना इसको पथिक तू
बैठ जाने का बहाना
एक कोने में हृदय के
आग तेरे जग रही है,
देखने को मग तुझे
जलना पड़ेगा ही, मुसाफिर
साँस चलती है तुझे
चलना पड़ेगा ही मुसाफिर!
वह कठिन पथ और कब
उसकी मुसीबत भूलती है
साँस उसकी याद करके
भी अभी तक फूलती है
यह मनुज की वीरता है
या कि उसकी बेहयाई
साथ ही आशा सुखों का
स्वप्न लेकर झूलती है
सत्य सुधियाँ, झूठ शायद
स्वप्न, पर चलना अगर है
झूठ से सच को तुझे
छलना पड़ेगा ही, मुसाफिर
साँस चलती है तुझे
चलना पड़ेगा ही मुसाफिर!

मधुशाला
मृदु भावों के अंगूरों की आज बना लाया हाला,
प्रियतम, अपने ही हाथों से आज पिलाऊँगा प्याला,
पहले भोग लगा लूँ तेरा फिर प्रसाद जग पाएगा,
सबसे पहले तेरा स्वागत करती मेरी मधुशाला।।१।
प्यास तुझे तो, विश्व तपाकर पूर्ण निकालूँगा हाला,
एक पाँव से साकी बनकर नाचूँगा लेकर प्याला,
जीवन की मधुता तो तेरे ऊपर कब का वार चुका,
आज निछावर कर दूँगा मैं तुझ पर जग की मधुशाला।।२।
प्रियतम, तू मेरी हाला है, मैं तेरा प्यासा प्याला,
अपने को मुझमें भरकर तू बनता है पीनेवाला,
मैं तुझको छक छलका करता, मस्त मुझे पी तू होता,
एक दूसरे की हम दोनों आज परस्पर मधुशाला।।३।
भावुकता अंगूर लता से खींच कल्पना की हाला,
कवि साकी बनकर आया है भरकर कविता का प्याला,
कभी न कण-भर खाली होगा लाख पिएँ, दो लाख पिएँ!
पाठकगण हैं पीनेवाले, पुस्तक मेरी मधुशाला।।४।
मधुर भावनाओं की सुमधुर नित्य बनाता हूँ हाला,
भरता हूँ इस मधु से अपने अंतर का प्यासा प्याला,
उठा कल्पना के हाथों से स्वयं उसे पी जाता हूँ,
अपने ही में हूँ मैं साकी, पीनेवाला, मधुशाला।।५।
मदिरालय जाने को घर से चलता है पीनेवला,
‘किस पथ से जाऊँ?’ असमंजस में है वह भोलाभाला,
अलग-अलग पथ बतलाते सब पर मैं यह बतलाता हूँ -
‘राह पकड़ तू एक चला चल, पा जाएगा मधुशाला।’। ६।
चलने ही चलने में कितना जीवन, हाय, बिता डाला!
‘दूर अभी है’, पर, कहता है हर पथ बतलानेवाला,
हिम्मत है न बढूँ आगे को साहस है न फिरुँ पीछे,
किंकर्तव्यविमूढ़ मुझे कर दूर खड़ी है मधुशाला।।७।
मुख से तू अविरत कहता जा मधु, मदिरा, मादक हाला,
हाथों में अनुभव करता जा एक ललित कल्पित प्याला,
ध्यान किए जा मन में सुमधुर सुखकर, सुंदर साकी का,
और बढ़ा चल, पथिक, न तुझको दूर लगेगी मधुशाला।।८।
मदिरा पीने की अभिलाषा ही बन जाए जब हाला,
अधरों की आतुरता में ही जब आभासित हो प्याला,
बने ध्यान ही करते-करते जब साकी साकार, सखे,
रहे न हाला, प्याला, साकी, तुझे मिलेगी मधुशाला।।९।
सुन, कलकल़ , छलछल़ मधुघट से गिरती प्यालों में हाला,
सुन, रूनझुन रूनझुन चल वितरण करती मधु साकीबाला,
बस आ पहुंचे, दुर नहीं कुछ, चार कदम अब चलना है,
चहक रहे, सुन, पीनेवाले, महक रही, ले, मधुशाला।।१०।
जलतरंग बजता, जब चुंबन करता प्याले को प्याला,
वीणा झंकृत होती, चलती जब रूनझुन साकीबाला,
डाँट डपट मधुविक्रेता की ध्वनित पखावज करती है,
मधुरव से मधु की मादकता और बढ़ाती मधुशाला।।११।
मेंहदी रंजित मृदुल हथेली पर माणिक मधु का प्याला,
अंगूरी अवगुंठन डाले स्वर्ण वर्ण साकीबाला,
पाग बैंजनी, जामा नीला डाट डटे पीनेवाले,
इन्द्रधनुष से होड़ लगाती आज रंगीली मधुशाला।।१२।
हाथों में आने से पहले नाज़ दिखाएगा प्याला,
अधरों पर आने से पहले अदा दिखाएगी हाला,
बहुतेरे इनकार करेगा साकी आने से पहले,
पथिक, न घबरा जाना, पहले मान करेगी मधुशाला।।१३।
लाल सुरा की धार लपट सी कह न इसे देना ज्वाला,
फेनिल मदिरा है, मत इसको कह देना उर का छाला,
दर्द नशा है इस मदिरा का विगत स्मृतियाँ साकी हैं,
पीड़ा में आनंद जिसे हो, आए मेरी मधुशाला।।१४।
जगती की शीतल हाला सी पथिक, नहीं मेरी हाला,
जगती के ठंडे प्याले सा पथिक, नहीं मेरा प्याला,
ज्वाल सुरा जलते प्याले में दग्ध हृदय की कविता है,
जलने से भयभीत न जो हो, आए मेरी मधुशाला।।१५।
बहती हाला देखी, देखो लपट उठाती अब हाला,
देखो प्याला अब छूते ही होंठ जला देनेवाला,
‘होंठ नहीं, सब देह दहे, पर पीने को दो बूंद मिले’
ऐसे मधु के दीवानों को आज बुलाती मधुशाला।।१६।
धर्मग्रन्थ सब जला चुकी है, जिसके अंतर की ज्वाला,
मंदिर, मसजिद, गिरिजे, सब को तोड़ चुका जो मतवाला,
पंडित, मोमिन, पादिरयों के फंदों को जो काट चुका,
कर सकती है आज उसी का स्वागत मेरी मधुशाला।।१७।
लालायित अधरों से जिसने, हाय, नहीं चूमी हाला,
हर्ष-विकंपित कर से जिसने, हा, न छुआ मधु का प्याला,
हाथ पकड़ लज्जित साकी को पास नहीं जिसने खींचा,
व्यर्थ सुखा डाली जीवन की उसने मधुमय मधुशाला।।१८।
बने पुजारी प्रेमी साकी, गंगाजल पावन हाला,
रहे फेरता अविरत गति से मधु के प्यालों की माला’
‘और लिये जा, और पीये जा’, इसी मंत्र का जाप करे’
मैं शिव की प्रतिमा बन बैठूं, मंदिर हो यह मधुशाला।।१९।
बजी न मंदिर में घड़ियाली, चढ़ी न प्रतिमा पर माला,
बैठा अपने भवन मुअज्ज़िन देकर मस्जिद में ताला,
लुटे ख़जाने नरपितयों के गिरीं गढ़ों की दीवारें,
रहें मुबारक पीनेवाले, खुली रहे यह मधुशाला।।२०।
बड़े बड़े पिरवार मिटें यों, एक न हो रोनेवाला,
हो जाएँ सुनसान महल वे, जहाँ थिरकतीं सुरबाला,
राज्य उलट जाएँ, भूपों की भाग्य सुलक्ष्मी सो जाए,
जमे रहेंगे पीनेवाले, जगा करेगी मधुशाला।।२१।
सब मिट जाएँ, बना रहेगा सुन्दर साकी, यम काला,
सूखें सब रस, बने रहेंगे, किन्तु, हलाहल औ’ हाला,
धूमधाम औ’ चहल पहल के स्थान सभी सुनसान बनें,
झगा करेगा अविरत मरघट, जगा करेगी मधुशाला।।२२।
भुरा सदा कहलायेगा जग में बाँका, मदचंचल प्याला,
छैल छबीला, रसिया साकी, अलबेला पीनेवाला,
पटे कहाँ से, मधु औ’ जग की जोड़ी ठीक नहीं,
जग जर्जर प्रतिदन, प्रतिक्षण, पर नित्य नवेली मधुशाला।।२३।
बिना पिये जो मधुशाला को बुरा कहे, वह मतवाला,
पी लेने पर तो उसके मुह पर पड़ जाएगा ताला,
दास द्रोहियों दोनों में है जीत सुरा की, प्याले की,
विश्वविजयिनी बनकर जग में आई मेरी मधुशाला।।२४।
हरा भरा रहता मदिरालय, जग पर पड़ जाए पाला,
वहाँ मुहर्रम का तम छाए, यहाँ होलिका की ज्वाला,
स्वर्ग लोक से सीधी उतरी वसुधा पर, दुख क्या जाने,
पढ़े मर्सिया दुनिया सारी, ईद मनाती मधुशाला।।२५।
एक बरस में, एक बार ही जगती होली की ज्वाला,
एक बार ही लगती बाज़ी, जलती दीपों की माला,
दुनियावालों, किन्तु, किसी दिन आ मदिरालय में देखो,
दिन को होली, रात दिवाली, रोज़ मनाती मधुशाला।।२६।
नहीं जानता कौन, मनुज आया बनकर पीनेवाला,
कौन अपिरिचत उस साकी से, जिसने दूध पिला पाला,
जीवन पाकर मानव पीकर मस्त रहे, इस कारण ही,
जग में आकर सबसे पहले पाई उसने मधुशाला।।२७।
बनी रहें अंगूर लताएँ जिनसे मिलती है हाला,
बनी रहे वह मिटटी जिससे बनता है मधु का प्याला,
बनी रहे वह मदिर पिपासा तृप्त न जो होना जाने,
बनें रहें ये पीने वाले, बनी रहे यह मधुशाला।।२८।
सकुशल समझो मुझको, सकुशल रहती यदि साकीबाला,
मंगल और अमंगल समझे मस्ती में क्या मतवाला,
मित्रों, मेरी क्षेम न पूछो आकर, पर मधुशाला की,
कहा करो ‘जय राम’ न मिलकर, कहा करो ‘जय मधुशाला’।।२९।
सूर्य बने मधु का विक्रेता, सिंधु बने घट, जल, हाला,
बादल बन-बन आए साकी, भूमि बने मधु का प्याला,
झड़ी लगाकर बरसे मदिरा रिमझिम, रिमझिम, रिमझिम कर,
बेलि, विटप, तृण बन मैं पीऊँ, वर्षा ऋतु हो मधुशाला।।३०।
तारक मणियों से सज्जित नभ बन जाए मधु का प्याला,
सीधा करके भर दी जाए उसमें सागरजल हाला,
मज्ञल्तऌा समीरण साकी बनकर अधरों पर छलका जाए,
फैले हों जो सागर तट से विश्व बने यह मधुशाला।।३१।
अधरों पर हो कोई भी रस जिहवा पर लगती हाला,
भाजन हो कोई हाथों में लगता रक्खा है प्याला,
हर सूरत साकी की सूरत में परिवर्तित हो जाती,
आँखों के आगे हो कुछ भी, आँखों में है मधुशाला।।३२।
पौधे आज बने हैं साकी ले ले फूलों का प्याला,
भरी हुई है जिसके अंदर पिरमल-मधु-सुरिभत हाला,
माँग माँगकर भ्रमरों के दल रस की मदिरा पीते हैं,
झूम झपक मद-झंपित होते, उपवन क्या है मधुशाला!।३३।
प्रति रसाल तरू साकी सा है, प्रति मंजरिका है प्याला,
छलक रही है जिसके बाहर मादक सौरभ की हाला,
छक जिसको मतवाली कोयल कूक रही डाली डाली
हर मधुऋतु में अमराई में जग उठती है मधुशाला।।३४।
मंद झकोरों के प्यालों में मधुऋतु सौरभ की हाला
भर भरकर है अनिल पिलाता बनकर मधु-मद-मतवाला,
हरे हरे नव पल्लव, तरूगण, नूतन डालें, वल्लरियाँ,
छक छक, झुक झुक झूम रही हैं, मधुबन में है मधुशाला।।३५।
साकी बन आती है प्रातः जब अरुणा ऊषा बाला,
तारक-मणि-मंडित चादर दे मोल धरा लेती हाला,
अगणित कर-किरणों से जिसको पी, खग पागल हो गाते,
प्रति प्रभात में पूर्ण प्रकृति में मुखिरत होती मधुशाला।।३६।
उतर नशा जब उसका जाता, आती है संध्या बाला,
बड़ी पुरानी, बड़ी नशीली नित्य ढला जाती हाला,
जीवन के संताप शोक सब इसको पीकर मिट जाते
सुरा-सुप्त होते मद-लोभी जागृत रहती मधुशाला।।३७।
अंधकार है मधुविक्रेता, सुन्दर साकी शशिबाला
किरण किरण में जो छलकाती जाम जुम्हाई का हाला,
पीकर जिसको चेतनता खो लेने लगते हैं झपकी
तारकदल से पीनेवाले, रात नहीं है, मधुशाला।।३८।
किसी ओर मैं आँखें फेरूँ, दिखलाई देती हाला
किसी ओर मैं आँखें फेरूँ, दिखलाई देता प्याला,
किसी ओर मैं देखूं, मुझको दिखलाई देता साकी
किसी ओर देखूं, दिखलाई पड़ती मुझको मधुशाला।।३९।
साकी बन मुरली आई साथ लिए कर में प्याला,
जिनमें वह छलकाती लाई अधर-सुधा-रस की हाला,
योगिराज कर संगत उसकी नटवर नागर कहलाए,
देखो कैसों-कैसों को है नाच नचाती मधुशाला।।४०।
वादक बन मधु का विक्रेता लाया सुर-सुमधुर-हाला,
रागिनियाँ बन साकी आई भरकर तारों का प्याला,
विक्रेता के संकेतों पर दौड़ लयों, आलापों में,
पान कराती श्रोतागण को, झंकृत वीणा मधुशाला।।४१।
चित्रकार बन साकी आता लेकर तूली का प्याला,
जिसमें भरकर पान कराता वह बहु रस-रंगी हाला,
मन के चित्र जिसे पी-पीकर रंग-बिरंगे हो जाते,
चित्रपटी पर नाच रही है एक मनोहर मधुशाला।।४२।
घन श्यामल अंगूर लता से खिंच खिंच यह आती हाला,
अरूण-कमल-कोमल कलियों की प्याली, फूलों का प्याला,
लोल हिलोरें साकी बन बन माणिक मधु से भर जातीं,
हंस मज्ञल्तऌा होते पी पीकर मानसरोवर मधुशाला।।४३।
हिम श्रेणी अंगूर लता-सी फैली, हिम जल है हाला,
चंचल नदियाँ साकी बनकर, भरकर लहरों का प्याला,
कोमल कूर-करों में अपने छलकाती निशिदिन चलतीं,
पीकर खेत खड़े लहराते, भारत पावन मधुशाला।।४४।
धीर सुतों के हृदय रक्त की आज बना रक्तिम हाला,
वीर सुतों के वर शीशों का हाथों में लेकर प्याला,
अति उदार दानी साकी है आज बनी भारतमाता,
स्वतंत्रता है तृषित कालिका बलिवेदी है मधुशाला।।४५।
दुतकारा मस्जिद ने मुझको कहकर है पीनेवाला,
ठुकराया ठाकुरद्वारे ने देख हथेली पर प्याला,
कहाँ ठिकाना मिलता जग में भला अभागे काफिर को?
शरणस्थल बनकर न मुझे यदि अपना लेती मधुशाला।।४६।
पथिक बना मैं घूम रहा हूँ, सभी जगह मिलती हाला,
सभी जगह मिल जाता साकी, सभी जगह मिलता प्याला,
मुझे ठहरने का, हे मित्रों, कष्ट नहीं कुछ भी होता,
मिले न मंदिर, मिले न मस्जिद, मिल जाती है मधुशाला।।४७।
सजें न मस्जिद और नमाज़ी कहता है अल्लाताला,
सजधजकर, पर, साकी आता, बन ठनकर, पीनेवाला,
शेख, कहाँ तुलना हो सकती मस्जिद की मदिरालय से
चिर विधवा है मस्जिद तेरी, सदा सुहागिन मधुशाला।।४८।
बजी नफ़ीरी और नमाज़ी भूल गया अल्लाताला,
गाज गिरी, पर ध्यान सुरा में मग्न रहा पीनेवाला,
शेख, बुरा मत मानो इसको, साफ़ कहूँ तो मस्जिद को
अभी युगों तक सिखलाएगी ध्यान लगाना मधुशाला!।४९।
मुसलमान औ’ हिन्दू है दो, एक, मगर, उनका प्याला,
एक, मगर, उनका मदिरालय, एक, मगर, उनकी हाला,
दोनों रहते एक न जब तक मस्जिद मन्दिर में जाते,
बैर बढ़ाते मस्जिद मन्दिर मेल कराती मधुशाला!।५०।
कोई भी हो शेख नमाज़ी या पंडित जपता माला,
बैर भाव चाहे जितना हो मदिरा से रखनेवाला,
एक बार बस मधुशाला के आगे से होकर निकले,
देखूँ कैसे थाम न लेती दामन उसका मधुशाला!।५१।
और रसों में स्वाद तभी तक, दूर जभी तक है हाला,
इतरा लें सब पात्र न जब तक, आगे आता है प्याला,
कर लें पूजा शेख, पुजारी तब तक मस्जिद मन्दिर में
घूँघट का पट खोल न जब तक झाँक रही है मधुशाला।।५२।
आज करे परहेज़ जगत, पर, कल पीनी होगी हाला,
आज करे इन्कार जगत पर कल पीना होगा प्याला,
होने दो पैदा मद का महमूद जगत में कोई, फिर
जहाँ अभी हैं मन्िदर मस्जिद वहाँ बनेगी मधुशाला।।५३।
यज्ञ अग्नि सी धधक रही है मधु की भटठी की ज्वाला,
ऋषि सा ध्यान लगा बैठा है हर मदिरा पीने वाला,
मुनि कन्याओं सी मधुघट ले फिरतीं साकीबालाएँ,
किसी तपोवन से क्या कम है मेरी पावन मधुशाला।।५४।
सोम सुरा पुरखे पीते थे, हम कहते उसको हाला,
द्रोणकलश जिसको कहते थे, आज वही मधुघट आला,
वेदिवहित यह रस्म न छोड़ो वेदों के ठेकेदारों,
युग युग से है पुजती आई नई नहीं है मधुशाला।।५५।
वही वारूणी जो थी सागर मथकर निकली अब हाला,
रंभा की संतान जगत में कहलाती ‘साकीबाला’,
देव अदेव जिसे ले आए, संत महंत मिटा देंगे!
किसमें कितना दम खम, इसको खूब समझती मधुशाला।।५६।
कभी न सुन पड़ता, ‘इसने, हा, छू दी मेरी हाला’,
कभी न कोई कहता, ‘उसने जूठा कर डाला प्याला’,
सभी जाति के लोग यहाँ पर साथ बैठकर पीते हैं,
सौ सुधारकों का करती है काम अकेले मधुशाला।।५७।
श्रम, संकट, संताप, सभी तुम भूला करते पी हाला,
सबक बड़ा तुम सीख चुके यदि सीखा रहना मतवाला,
व्यर्थ बने जाते हो हिरजन, तुम तो मधुजन ही अच्छे,
ठुकराते हिर मंिदरवाले, पलक बिछाती मधुशाला।।५८।
एक तरह से सबका स्वागत करती है साकीबाला,
अज्ञ विज्ञ में है क्या अंतर हो जाने पर मतवाला,
रंक राव में भेद हुआ है कभी नहीं मदिरालय में,
साम्यवाद की प्रथम प्रचारक है यह मेरी मधुशाला।।५९।
बार बार मैंने आगे बढ़ आज नहीं माँगी हाला,
समझ न लेना इससे मुझको साधारण पीने वाला,
हो तो लेने दो ऐ साकी दूर प्रथम संकोचों को,
मेरे ही स्वर से फिर सारी गूँज उठेगी मधुशाला।।६०।
कल? कल पर विश्वास किया कब करता है पीनेवाला
हो सकते कल कर जड़ जिनसे फिर फिर आज उठा प्याला,
आज हाथ में था, वह खोया, कल का कौन भरोसा है,
कल की हो न मुझे मधुशाला काल कुटिल की मधुशाला।।६१।
आज मिला अवसर, तब फिर क्यों मैं न छकूँ जी-भर हाला
आज मिला मौका, तब फिर क्यों ढाल न लूँ जी-भर प्याला,
छेड़छाड़ अपने साकी से आज न क्यों जी-भर कर लूँ,
एक बार ही तो मिलनी है जीवन की यह मधुशाला।।६२।
आज सजीव बना लो, प्रेयसी, अपने अधरों का प्याला,
भर लो, भर लो, भर लो इसमें, यौवन मधुरस की हाला,
और लगा मेरे होठों से भूल हटाना तुम जाओ,
अथक बनू मैं पीनेवाला, खुले प्रणय की मधुशाला।।६३।
सुमुखी तुम्हारा, सुन्दर मुख ही, मुझको कन्चन का प्याला
छलक रही है जिसमंे माणिक रूप मधुर मादक हाला,
मैं ही साकी बनता, मैं ही पीने वाला बनता हूँ
जहाँ कहीं मिल बैठे हम तुम़ वहीं गयी हो मधुशाला।।६४।
दो दिन ही मधु मुझे पिलाकर ऊब उठी साकीबाला,
भरकर अब खिसका देती है वह मेरे आगे प्याला,
नाज़, अदा, अंदाजों से अब, हाय पिलाना दूर हुआ,
अब तो कर देती है केवल फ़र्ज़ -अदाई मधुशाला।।६५।
छोटे-से जीवन में कितना प्यार करुँ, पी लूँ हाला,
आने के ही साथ जगत में कहलाया ‘जानेवाला’,
स्वागत के ही साथ विदा की होती देखी तैयारी,
बंद लगी होने खुलते ही मेरी जीवन-मधुशाला।।६६।
क्या पीना, निर्द्वन्द न जब तक ढाला प्यालों पर प्याला,
क्या जीना, निरंिचत न जब तक साथ रहे साकीबाला,
खोने का भय, हाय, लगा है पाने के सुख के पीछे,
मिलने का आनंद न देती मिलकर के भी मधुशाला।।६७।
मुझे पिलाने को लाए हो इतनी थोड़ी-सी हाला!
मुझे दिखाने को लाए हो एक यही छिछला प्याला!
इतनी पी जीने से अच्छा सागर की ले प्यास मरुँ,
सिंधँु-तृषा दी किसने रचकर बिंदु-बराबर मधुशाला।।६८।
क्या कहता है, रह न गई अब तेरे भाजन में हाला,
क्या कहता है, अब न चलेगी मादक प्यालों की माला,
थोड़ी पीकर प्यास बढ़ी तो शेष नहीं कुछ पीने को,
प्यास बुझाने को बुलवाकर प्यास बढ़ाती मधुशाला।।६९।
लिखी भाग्य में जितनी बस उतनी ही पाएगा हाला,
लिखा भाग्य में जैसा बस वैसा ही पाएगा प्याला,
लाख पटक तू हाथ पाँव, पर इससे कब कुछ होने का,
लिखी भाग्य में जो तेरे बस वही मिलेगी मधुशाला।।७०।
कर ले, कर ले कंजूसी तू मुझको देने में हाला,
दे ले, दे ले तू मुझको बस यह टूटा फूटा प्याला,
मैं तो सब्र इसी पर करता, तू पीछे पछताएगी,
जब न रहूँगा मैं, तब मेरी याद करेगी मधुशाला।।७१।
ध्यान मान का, अपमानों का छोड़ दिया जब पी हाला,
गौरव भूला, आया कर में जब से मिट्टी का प्याला,
साकी की अंदाज़ भरी झिड़की में क्या अपमान धरा,
दुनिया भर की ठोकर खाकर पाई मैंने मधुशाला।।७२।
क्षीण, क्षुद्र, क्षणभंगुर, दुर्बल मानव मिटटी का प्याला,
भरी हुई है जिसके अंदर कटु-मधु जीवन की हाला,
मृत्यु बनी है निर्दय साकी अपने शत-शत कर फैला,
काल प्रबल है पीनेवाला, संसृति है यह मधुशाला।।७३।
प्याले सा गढ़ हमें किसी ने भर दी जीवन की हाला,
नशा न भाया, ढाला हमने ले लेकर मधु का प्याला,
जब जीवन का दर्द उभरता उसे दबाते प्याले से,
जगती के पहले साकी से जूझ रही है मधुशाला।।७४।
अपने अंगूरों से तन में हमने भर ली है हाला,
क्या कहते हो, शेख, नरक में हमें तपाएगी ज्वाला,
तब तो मदिरा खूब खिंचेगी और पिएगा भी कोई,
हमें नमक की ज्वाला में भी दीख पड़ेगी मधुशाला।।७५।
यम आएगा लेने जब, तब खूब चलूँगा पी हाला,
पीड़ा, संकट, कष्ट नरक के क्या समझेगा मतवाला,
क्रूर, कठोर, कुटिल, कुविचारी, अन्यायी यमराजों के
डंडों की जब मार पड़ेगी, आड़ करेगी मधुशाला।।७६।
यदि इन अधरों से दो बातें प्रेम भरी करती हाला,
यदि इन खाली हाथों का जी पल भर बहलाता प्याला,
हानि बता, जग, तेरी क्या है, व्यर्थ मुझे बदनाम न कर,
मेरे टूटे दिल का है बस एक खिलौना मधुशाला।।७७।
याद न आए दूखमय जीवन इससे पी लेता हाला,
जग चिंताओं से रहने को मुक्त, उठा लेता प्याला,
शौक, साध के और स्वाद के हेतु पिया जग करता है,
पर मै वह रोगी हूँ जिसकी एक दवा है मधुशाला।।७८।
गिरती जाती है दिन प्रतिदन प्रणयनी प्राणों की हाला
भग्न हुआ जाता दिन प्रतिदन सुभगे मेरा तन प्याला,
रूठ रहा है मुझसे रूपसी, दिन दिन यौवन का साकी
सूख रही है दिन दिन सुन्दरी, मेरी जीवन मधुशाला।।७९।
यम आयेगा साकी बनकर साथ लिए काली हाला,
पी न होश में फिर आएगा सुरा-विसुध यह मतवाला,
यह अंितम बेहोशी, अंतिम साकी, अंतिम प्याला है,
पथिक, प्यार से पीना इसको फिर न मिलेगी मधुशाला।८०।
ढलक रही है तन के घट से, संगिनी जब जीवन हाला
पत्र गरल का ले जब अंतिम साकी है आनेवाला,
हाथ स्पर्श भूले प्याले का, स्वाद सुरा जीव्हा भूले
कानो में तुम कहती रहना, मधु का प्याला मधुशाला।।८१।
मेरे अधरों पर हो अंितम वस्तु न तुलसीदल प्याला
मेरी जीव्हा पर हो अंतिम वस्तु न गंगाजल हाला,
मेरे शव के पीछे चलने वालों याद इसे रखना
राम नाम है सत्य न कहना, कहना सच्ची मधुशाला।।८२।
मेरे शव पर वह रोये, हो जिसके आंसू में हाला
आह भरे वो, जो हो सुरिभत मदिरा पी कर मतवाला,
दे मुझको वो कान्धा जिनके पग मद डगमग होते हों
और जलूं उस ठौर जहां पर कभी रही हो मधुशाला।।८३।
और चिता पर जाये उंढेला पत्र न घ्रित का, पर प्याला
कंठ बंधे अंगूर लता में मध्य न जल हो, पर हाला,
प्राण प्रिये यदि श्राध करो तुम मेरा तो ऐसे करना
पीने वालांे को बुलवा कऱ खुलवा देना मधुशाला।।८४।
नाम अगर कोई पूछे तो, कहना बस पीनेवाला
काम ढालना, और ढालना सबको मदिरा का प्याला,
जाति प्रिये, पूछे यदि कोई कह देना दीवानों की
धर्म बताना प्यालों की ले माला जपना मधुशाला।।८५।
ज्ञात हुआ यम आने को है ले अपनी काली हाला,
पंिडत अपनी पोथी भूला, साधू भूल गया माला,
और पुजारी भूला पूजा, ज्ञान सभी ज्ञानी भूला,
किन्तु न भूला मरकर के भी पीनेवाला मधुशाला।।८६।
यम ले चलता है मुझको तो, चलने दे लेकर हाला,
चलने दे साकी को मेरे साथ लिए कर में प्याला,
स्वर्ग, नरक या जहाँ कहीं भी तेरा जी हो लेकर चल,
ठौर सभी हैं एक तरह के साथ रहे यदि मधुशाला।।८७।
पाप अगर पीना, समदोषी तो तीनों - साकी बाला,
नित्य पिलानेवाला प्याला, पी जानेवाली हाला,
साथ इन्हें भी ले चल मेरे न्याय यही बतलाता है,
कैद जहाँ मैं हूँ, की जाए कैद वहीं पर मधुशाला।।८८।
शांत सकी हो अब तक, साकी, पीकर किस उर की ज्वाला,
‘और, और’ की रटन लगाता जाता हर पीनेवाला,
कितनी इच्छाएँ हर जानेवाला छोड़ यहाँ जाता!
कितने अरमानों की बनकर कब्र खड़ी है मधुशाला।।८९।
जो हाला मैं चाह रहा था, वह न मिली मुझको हाला,
जो प्याला मैं माँग रहा था, वह न मिला मुझको प्याला,
जिस साकी के पीछे मैं था दीवाना, न मिला साकी,
जिसके पीछे था मैं पागल, हा न मिली वह मधुशाला!।९०।
देख रहा हूँ अपने आगे कब से माणिक-सी हाला,
देख रहा हूँ अपने आगे कब से कंचन का प्याला,
‘बस अब पाया!’- कह-कह कब से दौड़ रहा इसके पीछे,
किंतु रही है दूर क्षितिज-सी मुझसे मेरी मधुशाला।।९१।
कभी निराशा का तम घिरता, छिप जाता मधु का प्याला,
छिप जाती मदिरा की आभा, छिप जाती साकीबाला,
कभी उजाला आशा करके प्याला फिर चमका जाती,
आँखिमचौली खेल रही है मुझसे मेरी मधुशाला।।९२।
‘आ आगे’ कहकर कर पीछे कर लेती साकीबाला,
होंठ लगाने को कहकर हर बार हटा लेती प्याला,
नहीं मुझे मालूम कहाँ तक यह मुझको ले जाएगी,
बढ़ा बढ़ाकर मुझको आगे, पीछे हटती मधुशाला।।९३।
हाथों में आने-आने में, हाय, फिसल जाता प्याला,
अधरों पर आने-आने में हाय, ढुलक जाती हाला,
दुनियावालो, आकर मेरी किस्मत की ख़ूबी देखो,
रह-रह जाती है बस मुझको मिलते-िमलते मधुशाला।।९४।
प्राप्य नही है तो, हो जाती लुप्त नहीं फिर क्यों हाला,
प्राप्य नही है तो, हो जाता लुप्त नहीं फिर क्यों प्याला,
दूर न इतनी हिम्मत हारुँ, पास न इतनी पा जाऊँ,
व्यर्थ मुझे दौड़ाती मरु में मृगजल बनकर मधुशाला।।९५।
मिले न, पर, ललचा ललचा क्यों आकुल करती है हाला,
मिले न, पर, तरसा तरसाकर क्यों तड़पाता है प्याला,
हाय, नियति की विषम लेखनी मस्तक पर यह खोद गई
‘दूर रहेगी मधु की धारा, पास रहेगी मधुशाला!’।९६।
मदिरालय में कब से बैठा, पी न सका अब तक हाला,
यत्न सहित भरता हूँ, कोई किंतु उलट देता प्याला,
मानव-बल के आगे निर्बल भाग्य, सुना विद्यालय में,
‘भाग्य प्रबल, मानव निर्बल’ का पाठ पढ़ाती मधुशाला।।९७।
किस्मत में था खाली खप्पर, खोज रहा था मैं प्याला,
ढूँढ़ रहा था मैं मृगनयनी, किस्मत में थी मृगछाला,
किसने अपना भाग्य समझने में मुझसा धोखा खाया,
किस्मत में था अवघट मरघट, ढूँढ़ रहा था मधुशाला।।९८।
उस प्याले से प्यार मुझे जो दूर हथेली से प्याला,
उस हाला से चाव मुझे जो दूर अधर से है हाला,
प्यार नहीं पा जाने में है, पाने के अरमानों में!
पा जाता तब, हाय, न इतनी प्यारी लगती मधुशाला।।९९।
साकी के पास है तिनक सी श्री, सुख, संपित की हाला,
सब जग है पीने को आतुर ले ले किस्मत का प्याला,
रेल ठेल कुछ आगे बढ़ते, बहुतेरे दबकर मरते,
जीवन का संघर्ष नहीं है, भीड़ भरी है मधुशाला।।१००।
साकी, जब है पास तुम्हारे इतनी थोड़ी सी हाला,
क्यों पीने की अभिलषा से, करते सबको मतवाला,
हम पिस पिसकर मरते हैं, तुम छिप छिपकर मुसकाते हो,
हाय, हमारी पीड़ा से है क्रीड़ा करती मधुशाला।।१०१।
साकी, मर खपकर यदि कोई आगे कर पाया प्याला,
पी पाया केवल दो बूंदों से न अधिक तेरी हाला,
जीवन भर का, हाय, पिरश्रम लूट लिया दो बूंदों ने,
भोले मानव को ठगने के हेतु बनी है मधुशाला।।१०२।
जिसने मुझको प्यासा रक्खा बनी रहे वह भी हाला,
जिसने जीवन भर दौड़ाया बना रहे वह भी प्याला,
मतवालों की जिहवा से हैं कभी निकलते शाप नहीं,
दुखी बनाय जिसने मुझको सुखी रहे वह मधुशाला!।१०३।
नहीं चाहता, आगे बढ़कर छीनूँ औरों की हाला,
नहीं चाहता, धक्के देकर, छीनूँ औरों का प्याला,
साकी, मेरी ओर न देखो मुझको तिनक मलाल नहीं,
इतना ही क्या कम आँखों से देख रहा हूँ मधुशाला।।१०४।
मद, मदिरा, मधु, हाला सुन-सुन कर ही जब हूँ मतवाला,
क्या गति होगी अधरों के जब नीचे आएगा प्याला,
साकी, मेरे पास न आना मैं पागल हो जाऊँगा,
प्यासा ही मैं मस्त, मुबारक हो तुमको ही मधुशाला।।१०५।
क्या मुझको आवश्यकता है साकी से माँगूँ हाला,
क्या मुझको आवश्यकता है साकी से चाहूँ प्याला,
पीकर मदिरा मस्त हुआ तो प्यार किया क्या मदिरा से!
मैं तो पागल हो उठता हूँ सुन लेता यदि मधुशाला।।१०६।
देने को जो मुझे कहा था दे न सकी मुझको हाला,
देने को जो मुझे कहा था दे न सका मुझको प्याला,
समझ मनुज की दुर्बलता मैं कहा नहीं कुछ भी करता,
किन्तु स्वयं ही देख मुझे अब शरमा जाती मधुशाला।।१०७।
एक समय संतुष्ट बहुत था पा मैं थोड़ी-सी हाला,
भोला-सा था मेरा साकी, छोटा-सा मेरा प्याला,
छोटे-से इस जग की मेरे स्वर्ग बलाएँ लेता था,
विस्तृत जग में, हाय, गई खो मेरी नन्ही मधुशाला!।१०८।
बहुतेरे मदिरालय देखे, बहुतेरी देखी हाला,
भाँित भाँित का आया मेरे हाथों में मधु का प्याला,
एक एक से बढ़कर, सुन्दर साकी ने सत्कार किया,
जँची न आँखों में, पर, कोई पहली जैसी मधुशाला।।१०९।
एक समय छलका करती थी मेरे अधरों पर हाला,
एक समय झूमा करता था मेरे हाथों पर प्याला,
एक समय पीनेवाले, साकी आलिंगन करते थे,
आज बनी हूँ निर्जन मरघट, एक समय थी मधुशाला।।११०।
जला हृदय की भट्टी खींची मैंने आँसू की हाला,
छलछल छलका करता इससे पल पल पलकों का प्याला,
आँखें आज बनी हैं साकी, गाल गुलाबी पी होते,
कहो न विरही मुझको, मैं हूँ चलती फिरती मधुशाला!।१११।
कितनी जल्दी रंग बदलती है अपना चंचल हाला,
कितनी जल्दी घिसने लगता हाथों में आकर प्याला,
कितनी जल्दी साकी का आकर्षण घटने लगता है,
प्रात नहीं थी वैसी, जैसी रात लगी थी मधुशाला।।११२।
बूँद बूँद के हेतु कभी तुझको तरसाएगी हाला,
कभी हाथ से छिन जाएगा तेरा यह मादक प्याला,
पीनेवाले, साकी की मीठी बातों में मत आना,
मेरे भी गुण यों ही गाती एक दिवस थी मधुशाला।।११३।
छोड़ा मैंने पथ मतों को तब कहलाया मतवाला,
चली सुरा मेरा पग धोने तोड़ा जब मैंने प्याला,
अब मानी मधुशाला मेरे पीछे पीछे फिरती है,
क्या कारण? अब छोड़ दिया है मैंने जाना मधुशाला।।११४।
यह न समझना, पिया हलाहल मैंने, जब न मिली हाला,
तब मैंने खप्पर अपनाया ले सकता था जब प्याला,
जले हृदय को और जलाना सूझा, मैंने मरघट को
अपनाया जब इन चरणों में लोट रही थी मधुशाला।।११५।
कितनी आई और गई पी इस मदिरालय में हाला,
टूट चुकी अब तक कितने ही मादक प्यालों की माला,
कितने साकी अपना अपना काम खतम कर दूर गए,
कितने पीनेवाले आए, किन्तु वही है मधुशाला।।११६।
कितने होठों को रक्खेगी याद भला मादक हाला,
कितने हाथों को रक्खेगा याद भला पागल प्याला,
कितनी शक्लों को रक्खेगा याद भला भोला साकी,
कितने पीनेवालों में है एक अकेली मधुशाला।।११७।
दर दर घूम रहा था जब मैं चिल्लाता - हाला! हाला!
मुझे न मिलता था मदिरालय, मुझे न मिलता था प्याला,
मिलन हुआ, पर नहीं मिलनसुख लिखा हुआ था किस्मत में,
मैं अब जमकर बैठ गया हँू, घूम रही है मधुशाला।।११८।
मैं मदिरालय के अंदर हूँ, मेरे हाथों में प्याला,
प्याले में मदिरालय बिंिबत करनेवाली है हाला,
इस उधेड़-बुन में ही मेरा सारा जीवन बीत गया -
मैं मधुशाला के अंदर या मेरे अंदर मधुशाला!।११९।
किसे नहीं पीने से नाता, किसे नहीं भाता प्याला,
इस जगती के मदिरालय में तरह-तरह की है हाला,
अपनी-अपनी इच्छा के अनुसार सभी पी मदमाते,
एक सभी का मादक साकी, एक सभी की मधुशाला।।१२०।
वह हाला, कर शांत सके जो मेरे अंतर की ज्वाला,
जिसमें मैं बिंिबत-प्रतिबंिबत प्रतिपल, वह मेरा प्याला,
मधुशाला वह नहीं जहाँ पर मदिरा बेची जाती है,
भेंट जहाँ मस्ती की मिलती मेरी तो वह मधुशाला।।१२१।
मतवालापन हाला से ले मैंने तज दी है हाला,
पागलपन लेकर प्याले से, मैंने त्याग दिया प्याला,
साकी से मिल, साकी में मिल अपनापन मैं भूल गया,
मिल मधुशाला की मधुता में भूल गया मैं मधुशाला।।१२२।
मदिरालय के द्वार ठोंकता किस्मत का छंछा प्याला,
गहरी, ठंडी सांसें भर भर कहता था हर मतवाला,
कितनी थोड़ी सी यौवन की हाला, हा, मैं पी पाया!
बंद हो गई कितनी जल्दी मेरी जीवन मधुशाला।।१२३।
कहाँ गया वह स्वर्गिक साकी, कहाँ गयी सुरिभत हाला,
कहँा गया स्वपिनल मदिरालय, कहाँ गया स्वर्णिम प्याला!
पीनेवालों ने मदिरा का मूल्य, हाय, कब पहचाना?
फूट चुका जब मधु का प्याला, टूट चुकी जब मधुशाला।।१२४।
अपने युग में सबको अनुपम ज्ञात हुई अपनी हाला,
अपने युग में सबको अदभुत ज्ञात हुआ अपना प्याला,
फिर भी वृद्धों से जब पूछा एक यही उज्ञल्तऌार पाया -
अब न रहे वे पीनेवाले, अब न रही वह मधुशाला!।१२५।
‘मय’ को करके शुद्ध दिया अब नाम गया उसको, ‘हाला’
‘मीना’ को ‘मधुपात्र’ दिया ‘सागर’ को नाम गया ‘प्याला’,
क्यों न मौलवी चौंकें, बिचकें तिलक-त्रिपुंडी पंिडत जी
‘मय-महिफल’ अब अपना ली है मैंने करके ‘मधुशाला’।।१२६।
कितने मर्म जता जाती है बार-बार आकर हाला,
कितने भेद बता जाता है बार-बार आकर प्याला,
कितने अर्थों को संकेतों से बतला जाता साकी,
फिर भी पीनेवालों को है एक पहेली मधुशाला।।१२७।
जितनी दिल की गहराई हो उतना गहरा है प्याला,
जितनी मन की मादकता हो उतनी मादक है हाला,
जितनी उर की भावुकता हो उतना सुन्दर साकी है,
जितना ही जो रिसक, उसे है उतनी रसमय मधुशाला।।१२८।
जिन अधरों को छुए, बना दे मस्त उन्हें मेरी हाला,
जिस कर को छूू दे, कर दे विक्षिप्त उसे मेरा प्याला,
आँख चार हों जिसकी मेरे साकी से दीवाना हो,
पागल बनकर नाचे वह जो आए मेरी मधुशाला।।१२९।
हर जिहवा पर देखी जाएगी मेरी मादक हाला
हर कर में देखा जाएगा मेरे साकी का प्याला
हर घर में चर्चा अब होगी मेरे मधुविक्रेता की
हर आंगन में गमक उठेगी मेरी सुरिभत मधुशाला।।१३०।
मेरी हाला में सबने पाई अपनी-अपनी हाला,
मेरे प्याले में सबने पाया अपना-अपना प्याला,
मेरे साकी में सबने अपना प्यारा साकी देखा,
जिसकी जैसी रुिच थी उसने वैसी देखी मधुशाला।।१३१।
यह मदिरालय के आँसू हैं, नहीं-नहीं मादक हाला,
यह मदिरालय की आँखें हैं, नहीं-नहीं मधु का प्याला,
किसी समय की सुखदस्मृति है साकी बनकर नाच रही,
नहीं-नहीं किव का हृदयांगण, यह विरहाकुल मधुशाला।।१३२।
कुचल हसरतें कितनी अपनी, हाय, बना पाया हाला,
कितने अरमानों को करके ख़ाक बना पाया प्याला!
पी पीनेवाले चल देंगे, हाय, न कोई जानेगा,
कितने मन के महल ढहे तब खड़ी हुई यह मधुशाला!।१३३।
विश्व तुम्हारे विषमय जीवन में ला पाएगी हाला
यदि थोड़ी-सी भी यह मेरी मदमाती साकीबाला,
शून्य तुम्हारी घड़ियाँ कुछ भी यदि यह गुंजित कर पाई,
जन्म सफल समझेगी जग में अपना मेरी मधुशाला।।१३४।
बड़े-बड़े नाज़ों से मैंने पाली है साकीबाला,
किलत कल्पना का ही इसने सदा उठाया है प्याला,
मान-दुलारों से ही रखना इस मेरी सुकुमारी को,
विश्व, तुम्हारे हाथों में अब सौंप रहा हूँ मधुशाला।।१३५।
पिरिशष्ट से
स्वयं नहीं पीता, औरों को, किन्तु पिला देता हाला,
स्वयं नहीं छूता, औरों को, पर पकड़ा देता प्याला,
पर उपदेश कुशल बहुतेरों से मैंने यह सीखा है,
स्वयं नहीं जाता, औरों को पहुंचा देता मधुशाला।
मैं कायस्थ कुलोदभव मेरे पुरखों ने इतना ढ़ाला,
मेरे तन के लोहू में है पचहज्ञल्तऌार प्रतिशत हाला,
पुश्तैनी अधिकार मुझे है मदिरालय के आँगन पर,
मेरे दादों परदादों के हाथ बिकी थी मधुशाला।
बहुतों के सिर चार दिनों तक चढ़कर उतर गई हाला,
बहुतों के हाथों में दो दिन छलक झलक रीता प्याला,
पर बढ़ती तासीर सुरा की साथ समय के, इससे ही
और पुरानी होकर मेरी और नशीली मधुशाला।

While reading, I come across with your rendition “ISS BAAR NAHIN” by PRASOON JOSHI. The entire performance touched our heart and filled our eyes with tears, seeing the world of corruption. I felt so heartbreaking by seeing the pathetic conditions of the innocent lives, and thus could not complete watching the performance. One thing that I could see is that “Enough of this! We need PEACE!”

I agree. Your comment regarding BB3 leaves me thinking about Big Brother on which this show is based. No one gets particular special treatment. Yet KRK gets specia food and milk amongst other things. It is clear there is favouritism being played here.
Watching last night show, certain celeb’s entered the house. I think it was Chunkey Pandey who handed Vindoo a note. Not cleverly done and the camera’s picked this up. BB summonded Vindoo into the diary / confession room and requested he leave the note there. Vindoo, having put it away secretly had to retrieve it and return it to the diary room.
Aparently it was a note on what he should do / not do in the house hence gain the upper hand in the house and furthermore at winning BB3. Yes, Vindoo is close with Akshay and the likes thereof but this should not be allowed. Why were the celeb’s allowed into the house. Openly speaking in English and talking about the impact of the sohw on the outside.
This show is a shame. Some people had suggested why is Amitabh Bachchan presenting such a show. I never understood this before however the muddy waters have cleared and I understand now.
This show is clearly biased towards certain housemates than others. It is clear that BB has certain outside influences.
I have been greatly put off watching this show since it makes a mockery of the rules and is full of talentless people, except Raju / Poonam. Majority of people are has been’s. Yesterday’s star’s. B list celeb’s and on the back of their father’s success with regards to Vindoo.
As Far as Rohit is concerned, at least he’s shown remorse and regret over his actions. Vindoo hasn’t. I felt rather sorry for him although he may be playing up to the cameras. When BB shown the housemates a video of Rohit’s good points and happier days, no sooner was it over did Vindoo say Chalo, hogaya ..
Bhaktiyar wanting to be a star. The aura that surrounds a star. It’s something you either have of don’t.
KRK showing the celeb’s that entered the house his photo of his villa. So what. Dubai is in real problems right now. That peoperty if he ons it is probably worth a fraction of the price when he bought it. Who cares ?

The Friday after Thanksgiving is also ‘Fur Free Friday”. So I will join Caring Activists Against Fur in front of Lord & Taylors at 1PM for a big demo. Before that, Global Justic for Animals and the Environment will be sponsoring a seal hunt protest in front of the Canadian Consulate.
Aside from the activism part, this will keep my mind off last night’s Giants game, one of the worst football games I’ve ever watched.

Some times what we see is not the truth but being sentimental, we often get carried away. What you have written in your blog is not incorrect but every story has two sides. I think you must have guessed that I am referring to Kasab security.
Yes, its true that Kasab is the safest person in the country. But on the other hand, he is the only terrorist of Mumbai attack, who was captured alive. Kasab is not a master mind of Mumbai attack. He is small part of it. He is the only alive evidence of Pakistani hand in Mumbai attack. We must be aware of one more thing, any laps in his security would cost his life. Than there will be no alive evidence against Pakistan and other terror outfits.

I hope you are very well and have been in good spirits on this special day which hopefully has passed with the fondest memories of your father. I tend to believe it’s a happy consolation that even death does not truly separate us from our parents, they always remain with us and in your case the essence of your father being has been immortalised through his work.
National remembrance days that have been largely media motivated like yesterdays, have the disadvantage of leaving a very sombre mood after the publicity subsides and reality sets in again. It is easy to pledge solidarity whilst in the spirit of patriotism, but surely the true demonstration of this should begin today, when life begins to resume normality. Lets fervently hope that those who do have the spirit to get back to normal will illuminate the way for the remainder who grapple with the darkness.
I am still anticipating hearing the anthem you recorded for 26/11 with Sonu Niggam. Sadly, the electronic media world offers plenty of articles relaying how powerful and impacting your voice was; yet they forget to post the clips!
The repercussions of the duvet day I took yesterday in favour of attending work has caused a backlog of frenzied activity, so I am very late in wishing you the best for BB3 again. These final weeks are usually the most ‘eventful’ part of the game and I certainly will be watching with interest as to what unfolds!!

Zakham phir se taza hue hai, if anybody is going to place a hand on the shoulders of the victims families, better you Sir than a politician. Somehow, politicians tend not to connect. I shall refrain from laying the blame on any one, I do not live in India and do not know much about its political/security systems. One understand the anguish of the Mumbaikers…a terrorist attack, then another one, another one and another…how many times? Just how many?
Then there is the other side to the coin. To what extent can the military in possession of weapons halt a terrorist attack? Same question arises with the national security. The answer is there is no hundred percent terrorist -proof solution no matter what the country. If it can happen to super-powers in the West, it can happen to any country.
History has taught us that evil thrives hand in hand with the good. It did so during Ram Rajya (Ravan the evil), Mahabharat (Duryodhana and Kans and Kauraw as the evils) and in modern times, we have fanatics representing the demons. The ideology they have been pursuing in the name of religion for hundreds of years will not be defeated easily I’m afraid… Whatever happens to the captured Kasab, there are hundreds more Kasabs waiting to be sent on mission to kill. These are like robots, brainwashed to the extent that they actually kill their own! Batteries of hatred installed in their minds. According to a local Asian newspaper this morning here in UK, a surgeon in Pakistan, in charge of the hospital’s emergency ward in Peshawar is quoted…”We have dealt with 49 blasts, 2,200 injured and 576 bodies in bombings.” The newspaper states that in the last 29 months, there have been 2,540 deaths in Pakistan linked to terrorist attacks. Even the doctors and nurses caring for the sick and injured are threatened. Humanity in a hopeless situation…my heart goes out to all that suffer in both countries. What for? A piece of land? One wonders what impact the global warming will have on the world because some countries are going to find themselves disappearing under water. Also, there is the population explosion to add to the problems along with shortage of food.
The earth has been gifted with air, water and food but it seems the humans with all kinds of needs wants and greed are leading it to a path of destruction. What are we doing? Where are we heading?
My thoughts remain with the loved ones of those who lost their lives.
The words in the last paragraph touch me. Zindagi ka safa hai yeh kaisa safar…shayad kuchh samj liya, shayad kuchh jan liya..pata nahin aur kya khel dikhayegi..

विनोद कापड़ी जी(इंडिया टीवी) का यह वक्तव्य बिलकुल सही है कि “आपकी आवाज ने 26 नवंबर की घटना के मायने ही बदल दिये, कोई शक नहीं की इतनी उम्मीद, इतना भरोसा और इतना विश्वास सिर्फ आपकी आवाज़ ही दे सकती है” आपकी आवाज़ में बाबूजी की कविता न केवल मजबूती से खड़े रहने का आभास दिलाती है बल्कि आतंक के खिलाफ लड़ने की प्रेरणा भी देती है।
आतंक के खिलाफ हर भारतवासी एकजुटता के साथ खड़ा रहेगा इसी कामना से बाबूजी की कविता की चंद पंक्तियां…

I am an Assamese by birth, however i feel i am half Maharashtrian coz i stayed in Pune for 9 years and actually ‘Grew Up’ and became a Man there .
But I am a ‘Bharatiya’ first, everything else come a far second. I used to frequent ‘Bombay’ now ‘ Mumbai ‘ , but my love for this lovely city is the same …’Bombay’ or ‘Mumbai’ , for any cricket match played at the Wankhede be it a Ranji , Deodhar , Duleep or an International match. The entire ‘Bombay’ team , beg forgiveness from a certain section , knew me and referred to me as ‘ Yera ‘, a madman in Marathi , a madman-one who was crazy for Sports.Incidentally i was a big fan of Vinod Kambli and we became friends.
To cite one incident …years back when i was student of Fergusson College i had come to ‘ Bombay’ for a Ranji match between ‘ Bombay ‘ & ‘Maharashtra’ . After the days play i went to cafe Leopold and met a Mexican couple who introduced themselves as certain Mr. & Mrs. …from Mexico . I introduced myself as Anupam from ‘India’ . Amit ji you should have seen how they reacted …they shook my hand and said ” You are the first Indian we met in India …we’ve met a lot of Maharashtrians , Keralities , Bengalis ..etc”
Please for everyone… who feels that regionalism is paramount …think twice , thrice …umpteenth times …but say i am an Indian.
To all the people who suffered in 26/11….i love my ‘Bombay’ or should i say ‘Mumbai’ ..Let’s save ‘ Mumbai’ and our ‘Bharat’.
But i fear whether being born in Assam actually gives me the right to love ‘Bombay’ …oops ‘Mumbai’

बुरा न मानियेगा . ‘बिग बॉस’ अब ‘बिग बकवास’ होता जा रहा है. सदस्य नियम तोड़े जा रहे हैं उनके खिलाफ कुछ कार्यवाही नहीं हो रही है. बाहिर से ग्रुप में लोग अन्दर आते है. फिल्म प्रोमोशन के नाम पर. इस से सदस्यों का isolation ही disturb हो रहा है. किसी को बाहिर से भोजन दिया जाता है.
कभी कभी आपको ऐसे शो से जुडा देख कर दुःख होता है. यह बात अलग है की आप अपना भूमिका बहुत ही शानदार तरीके से निभा रहे है. सच पूछिए तो हमें हर शुक्रवार और शनिवार का इंतजार रहता है बस आपको देखने और सुनने का. ‘बिग बॉस’ का यही एक प्लस पाइंट है.

This is regarding the BIGG BOSS of today’s(27th Nov). It was really sad to see today that you stopped Raju and asked not to reply in mimicry fashion ( Reasons for it may be right as per own’s perspective) but on the other hand asked pravesh immediately to mimic abt the happenings of house.
It looks as if there is a conscious effort on Friday’s to create comparison between the two and pull Raju’s leg when infact he has done comedy inside BIGG BOSS many times now.
Also Raju what I believe is a comedian and not a mimicry artist ( this is referring to the tandem contest of mimic held on earlier Friday)
It really hurts when a guru(BIG B of course) treats his disciple(Raju) in a manner of eklavya.
This is my personal view that treatment to Raju on couple of Fridays has been unfair on some part.

Hello sir my name is pratik mankar. In my home town ahmednagar i came to know that 3 year old child who looks like about 13 year old.
The problem is as his hormons have develope fully he becomes sexually aggressive by everyday. Problem is so critical that doctors are advising
for “Mercy killing” which is such a heart braking. Family is so poor & hardly afford to travel mumbai & pune but doing best they can.
As family is poorly educated & live in villege I step up & trying to find donations from newspapers & news channel but havent succede yet.
Father of kid tried in some trusts but they dont belives such disease exist as
its so rare that it occurs as 1 in 1crore.name of the disease is “Hypothalamic Hamartoma”. I have seen that kid & looked several medical tests ,
they gave me one of his photos. His father visited some hospitals in mumbai & pune.some medication are available but 1 injection comes to 12000 &
It need to take for several years.
His father was crying in front of me sir & said “Even if someone help me to get 1 Injection it will mean world to me”.
As I am a student , studing in pune & cant help them finantially but trying form internet as much as I can. If anyone want to see reports it can be possible. I dont have reports in pune but try to get it but I have the photo which is Not decsent . Any help will be appritiated. Thank you

I just cant explain, how it feels like wen i read ur blog, may be last i remember something that was so motivating, were my moral science classes in class 2 or 3. And 1 more thing sir, your blog makes me realize that how important is to be disciplined in our lives. I am just a student and just after 12-14 hrs of duty, i easily convince myself not to follow my schedule and drop out on my tasks.

So many marched on this day…so many remembered the martyrs, but fact still remains, to morrow for all of us will be the new dawn, new day….and there will be nothing for those who lost there loved ones that day except another day of memories and emptiness. We all have felt that when we have lost our loved ones but most treacherous is the loss of these families who lost there precious ones in the moment of senseless madness and then seeing there names getting dragged for commercial and political purposes. We still go and have diplomatic relations , trade relations with the nation that supports these methods, for thats how the country runs, thats how policies are.
One more thing, why “idea” needs to dedicate the money for better equipment for police force, what happened to the money we pay in taxes. Did someone ask that question today?

Once upon a time the animals decided they must do something decisive to meet the increasing complexity of their society. They held a meeting and finally decided to organize a school.
The curriculum consisted of running, climbing, swimming and flying. Since these were the basic behaviors of most animals, they decided that all the students should take all the subjects.
The duck proved to be excellent at swimming, better in fact, than his teacher. He also did well in flying. But he proved to be very poor in running. Since he was poor in this subject, he was made to stay after school to practice it and even had to drop swimming in order to get more time in which to practice running. He was kept at this poorest subject until his webbed feet were so badly damaged that he became only average at swimming. But average was acceptable in the school, so nobody worried about that – except the duck.
The rabbit started at the top of her class in running, but finally had a nervous breakdown because of so much make-up time in swimming – a subject she hated.
The squirrel was excellent at climbing until he developed a psychological block in flying class, when the teacher insisted he start from the ground instead of from the tops of trees. He was kept at attempting to fly until he became muscle-bound – and received a C in climbing and a D in running.
The eagle was the school’s worst discipline problem; in climbing class, she beat all of the others to the top of the tree used for examination purposes in this subject, but she insisted on using her own method of getting there.
The gophers, of course, stayed out of school and fought the tax levied for education because digging was not included in the curriculum. They apprenticed their children to the badger and later joined the groundhogs and eventually started a private school offering alternative education.

Few decades back while in the medical school, I saw a movie with my friends,- Bansi Birju. None of us could sit down till the end. However, I had told my friends, to watch out for this guy, who is totally different from the chocolate faced heroes, “he has the magnetic eyes, a strong and very expressive face, a manly voice which is going to take him to the highest level ever in different fields”. They all laughed at me, even though they were well aware of my 6th sense. It was no coincidence, what I had said. Recently I attended the old boys associations at my medical school, in India and many of my friends were there and some still remebered what I had predicted for you. We were all very happy for you and your unparalleled achievements in the field of world entertainment. You are going to achieve a lot more accolades and make all indians proud of you, in the very near future. I make it a point to see all your movies and I must say you are a very intense actor and the trait that I like most in you is challenging yourself to do better than your very best. Did know that the 28th was very special day for Bachchan family and these thoughts were much very in mind but had to get back to be in touch and give all the attention. It must have been a tribute that your father i heaven must have been very pleased and enjoyed throughly.
