A collage !! Moments of my existence !! And, a wonder if they be of any interest within the extended family !!
The crowd of fans and well wishers outside Jalsa a few Sundays ago and their love and affection day after day through many years now. I can but acknowledge them only and express gratitude. I have nothing more with me to give them. I wish I had.
I took Abhishek out too with me. At times when the ladies are in I insist they come out and meet the people. A glimpse a wave a smile is all they ask. At times an autograph. Simple little gestures, for so much warmth from them.
And as I leave the house they remain outside and cheer and follow at times somewhat precariously perched, like the young lady behind her van. God has been very kind to me.
Some other pictures down the line show me at work for a commercial. All the green is the background which in modern film technology shall with digital finesse, fill up with visuals. I fool around in one. The crew on set seems to enjoy my humor. I sit on one pensive as the camera department lights up and focuses - the assistant on his heals to give a height indication for the lens. The director of the day in one, explaining the shot. My perch on several chairs put together to protect my bad back. I am obviously so deeply interested in what he directs towards me !! Ha ! Do not, I implore, judge my involvement in the way I look away !! Sometimes those are the moments when you are concentrating the most.
The rain… behaved !! It poured throughout the night and in bits and pieces during the day. The water logging cleared up a bit in some regions. Leakages and threats of being submerged looked distant and the traffic and life on the roads came back to life, though not entirely in other parts of the city.
I got adventurous during the day and actually supervised the breach in the wall of the basement with some serious looking technicians. And more wonder of wonders, actually accepted some of the ideas on water proofing that I gave out to them. Well.. at least they seemed to give me that impression while I spoke to them. They must really be sniggering now, at my stupidity !
The media was amusing today. Had some frantic text messages from them on whether I had built a ramp in the house to put my cars on it to save them from the flooding !! Why on earth this should be of any national interest intrigues me. I suspect they must be doing a larger piece on the inadequate facilities during the rains by the Government and the efforts that need to be made in insuring these episodes do not repeat themselves. But to be fair, what can one do against natures fury. When you have 160 mm of rain in a couple of hours, the best and most efficient administration in the world would be helpless. I have seen many a Government in the developed world brought to their knees when natures catastrophes strike ! And I must say when I had ventured out in wading waters yesterday, there was a determined presence of the police and emergency services at vantage points to bring in assistance and help.
So… I indulged again as I prepare to depart. TIMES NOW, the TV Channel anchored by the affable Arnab Goswami, who had been most impressive in his coverage and reporting during the attack on Mumbai, had done a program on me called ‘Total Recall’, an assimilation of 40 years of my work in cinema, interspersed with an interview. I had not had the opportunity to see it when it was broadcast and had asked for the tapes to be sent to me. That is what I put on and my immediate thought was how can I put this across for the EF to view.
So… this is not my poll question of the day, but a genuine request. How in heavens name does one get this across on the blog. To be more specific. I have 2 DVD’s of the program and I suppose they will be technically proficient to go on to the net… but how does one do that..??? Some quick suggestions please !! Or else I shall go to the server bigadda.com for assistance !!
Bastille Day, the day of the great French Revolution, France, Paris and the ceremonial parade down the exquisite Champs-Elysee. For the first time in the history of the country and the parade a foreign dignitary invited as a guest of honor - our Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh. And Indian troops, the Maratha Light Infantry and the Navy and Air Force, marched down along with French troops down this historic path, day before. A million Indian soldiers had fought in World War 1 on French soil and 100,000 had died. Not to mention the approximately 2.5 million Indian soldiers that fought along with the Allies during WW 2.
Felt terribly proud on seeing President Sarkozy welcoming us and giving us this honor. He, as you may know was the chief guest at our Republic Day Parade in New Delhi at India Gate, last year.
What a moment ! So many sacrificed their lives so we could live ! And we never seem to remember and honor them enough !!

If you are using MAC - there is program called iMovie, you can import these DVD content, and click on publish on youtube. This will publish it on http://www.youtube.com - You will require to create an user account with them.

And ADORED the Sunday photographs as they brought back such vivid memories of once - well twice in one night actually - being outside Jalsa to witness the phenomenon. The atmosphere is utterly electric and thrilling and incredibly moving. It will always live with me, and who knows maybe one day I will be in Mumbai again and slip into the heat of the excited crowds.
It must also be beautiful when Abhishek goes out with you - what he so sweetly described once as his “Lion King” moment.. when you present your beloved cub to the crowds.

Good to know that the rains and its flood waters have subsided and that Mumbai has returned to its normal life. Its nice to know that you show much kindness to your fans because they ultimately decide your marketability. Besides all they want to know is that you are sometimes as real as the roles you play on the big screen!
Youtube is a good option to showcase your videos, methinks. But I am sure before the day is out you will get all manner of suggestions, lest you are mislead by mine.

I guess India has it’s rain…and Canada has its Snow…you shoujld see winter wonderland here..it brings the city to ahault…and the havoc it has on everyone’s home and life…mountainous piles of snow..to shovel out of..the homes cave in under the shear weight..and than it starts to melt…so the water rushes into the homes, basements are flooded, and cars are swallowed up…that’s how we experience mother nature at it’s worst.

Glad that you are posting earlier rather than late - therefore assuming that you are retiring early to bed - which is good.
Good pictures - any pictures that show you and family in normal attire cheers me up.
Do not put on Youtube. I think there is a 10 minute limit. Bigadda is a better spot if they don’t have a limit - and even if they did, perhaps you can pull some strings to make an exception. This will definitely generate a lot of traffic for them on the websites - which would be very good for them as well and good for us too, to see it uninterrupted for a period of time - say 30 minutes or so.
When are you returning back to the normal routine ? Hopefully you are keeping well and continuing on the path of recovery. Please do not work too hard (not by our standards but by your standards !)

Back to writing comments after a few months absence. We finally got to watch the IIFA broadcast in the U.S this past sunday and what a nostalgic moment it was to see Rajesh Khanna and yourself together on the same stage. I went so far down memory lane that night it was dawn before I could return!!! If you could share your impressions about Rajesh Khanna, that would be priceless for us, your long standing fans.
On a more personal note Amitji, my wife Rima & I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary also on sunday, jul 12th (same day as the main IIFA event was broadcast here). If its not too much trouble, a word in greeting would be very much appreciated!
Oh! Were I to be among the multitudes in front of your house so I could get a glimpse of you again - hopefully one of these days, somewhere, somehow!

Well, of course a collage of your existence would be of most interest to us. That is why we’re here! Thank you for all those pictures. Those crowds will always come to see you I’m sure. You have already given so much of yourself to your fans. Just you coming out to wave and smile is more than anyone other celebrity does. I wish I could have seen you fool around on that commercial. I love your sense of humor. All those chairs do look like they are supporting your bad back.
I’m glad the rain decided to behave. I have no clues about waterproofing so whatever you told those technicians is more than what I could have said. At least you could fake it. But you are so good at everything it was probably helpful. As long as people decide to build cities so close to bodies of water, there will always be these flooding problems in extreme weather.
About the ‘Total Recall’ show, I watched it in 10 parts on the Net but parts 2 and 8 I believe played down in slow motion so they were unwatchable. So I would love if you could put them up correctly but I have no clue how to do it. I guess people put all sorts of videos on Youtube but I’ll leave it to all the rest of the technologically proficient EF to tell you how.
And for once I saw the new poll only because you mentioned it indirectly.

I think to upload the video either your blog page has to be enabled to be able upload the videos ….that means you probably dump the DVD’s on your laptop and then upload them on youtube or some such website or you would have to upload the video on the server….the IT behind the blog should be able to let that happen….

Why would otherwise they come day and day out there ? We all love yo and admire your presence everywhere- in movies/ on TVs and also on the net. i am glad that rain has finally stopped. Hope, there was not much damage due to rain at both ( or three) of your places- Prateeksha/ Jalsa and Janak- your office. Hope, rain atleast is not causing any more flooding i Mumbai and roads are safe for transport. There was an earth quake in Newzealand and plane crash in Iran- so much damage/ loss of human lives- tragedy!!!!

Dear Amitji, Good Evening. There are hardly any rains in Coimbatore but wind gusts are worth feeling when they swing the trees. I was whole day on site and whenever got chance went out to see the underside of leaves as the trees big and small swayed. Very enjoyable sight but the trees must have had backaches and many other sprains but who cares when it comes to plants.
Happy rains have subsided and your engineering knowledge of water proofing can be tested in not so severe conditions. TV must have shown water footage of many years and accounted as downpour of today. Hope the ramp for your cars is not needed and surely all are safe including the prestigious SUV of Mid-Day fame.
Yes world war 2 heroes need to be remembered and I do distinctly remember a story we had in hindi text book. Lahana Singh asked the young girl ‘Teri kudmai hogayi and she said yes by showing him her kurta or something pertaining to that ceremony. Then she met him again asking to protect her husband and he did that with his own life. What a moving account of a story and for me unforgettable one. Maratha Light infantry was also where my Late naphew 2nd Lt. Rishi Malhotra belonged. We are proud to remember our soldiers along with the French on their soil. What a moving account and historic work. 1lac gave life for the war because we were aligned that way.
Hope the pictures collage above swells every sunday and other days and continues for centuries. Wish all those who come for your darshan happy life and best wishes. They do Prateeksha to enjoy the feelings of Jalsa. Let every heart have its jalsa and feel full with love. Yes sometimes a touch or wave or pat is enough to carry for life. A memory cherished forever is a happy memory. You certainly give millions happy memories and now happy blog posts for us to enjoy life to the brim of happiness.

Please ask Big Adda to help you load those DVD/ Videos on your website. Youtube will only take small size & poor quality. Big adda can provide professional quality it deserves and your fans demand.
Each DVD contain probably 4GB of data, not easy to share. If You put it in Youtube You will lose quality. There is another way to put it some torrent sites- there You can share all without losing Qality, but first You have to register in that site then download and install uTorrent program then put the video on server and place the torrent link in Your next posts. Not easy. The easiest way I think is request for a help from Bigadda to share the video directly from this site. Have a good luck.

Hullo, thanks for the photos, but I really don’t know which colour is used in films in background for digital inputs. White , I think , is not a colour , as it doesn’t figure in VIBGYOR. So that leaves blue and red . In digital cameras, there is a feature for red eye reduction , so I guess it wont be red. Perhaps it would be blue.

Yes, it is indeed a matter of pride for us Indians to be at the Champs de elysees. That was the only article I read most intently this morning.
Yes , the rains are a serious matter, not only in Mumbai, but in other parts of the country too. Today , we had overcast skies in Delhi and Gurgaon , followed by heavy showers in the late afternoon. In certain areas the ground water table is so high, that the rain water doesn’t percolate rapidly. So from my office window , In Gurgaon , I can see acres of land with a sheet of water. And as I move back towards Delhi, the car slows down to a crawl in water logged areas, primarily due to choked drains, blocked outlets, undulated road profile due to various flyovers and elevated tracks for the metro under construction. Not much can be done about this , but to put up with it. But there are other aspects, which can be monitored in time by civic authorities. Any way, let me not make any futile attempts.
So I look out of my car and enjoy the beauty of the Neem tree drenched in rain. What a sight it is , with its slender dark trunk , almost black due to the rain and the delicate foliage with raindrops at the tips. You must observe it…..believe me, you will never forget it

The late poet Dr.Harivanshrai Bachchan had a habit of going for morning
walks near his house in Allahabad. There was a hilly area full of rocks

some shapes in those rocks. He would pick them up and bring them home and
with a stroke of a brush, he would give the rock the shape which he
imagined. He would then wake up his two sons Amitabh ( BIG B) & Ajitabh

One day as usual Dr. Bachchan went for his walk.And when he came back
home, he woke up Amitabh and asked him to help him bring a rock inside the
house. Amitabh got up and went outside the gate. There to his surprise he
found not a small rock, it was a big boulder. He went back to his father
and told him that he would require some more people as he alone wont be
able to bring it inside the house. Finally they arranged for 12 odd people
who finally rolled the boulder into the verandah of the house.
Amitabh,out of sheer curiousity went upto his dad and asked him ” Dad, I
have a question. How did such a heavy boulder reach till the gate of our
house ?”. To this Dr. Harivanshrai Bachchan answered “Oh, I pushed it.”
Amitabh thought he was joking.He told his dad what he thought. Dr.
Bachchan replied ” I found this rock around 3 months back near the
hills.But since it was very big, i started pushing it everyday. And
everyday it would move an inch. That was how I got it till here”
Dreams are like that boulder. You will not be able to achieve it in a day
but you will have to push yourself everyday towards the dream/goal.

Hark! It sounds like the tinkling of bells on the feet of an intoxicated girl.
We have reached there, a few steps are we from the tavern,
Hark! Hear the laughter of the drinkers, as the fragrance of the tavern wafts through the air.
Call it not lava, though it flows red, like a tongue of flame.
Call it not the blistered heart, for it is only foaming wine.
Lost memories serve the wine, that intoxicates with pain.
If you find happiness in suffering, come to my tavern.
He who has burnt all scriptures with his inner fire,
Has broken temples, mosques and churches with carefree abandon,
And has cut the nooses of pandits, mullahs and priests —

The book, released by Deepak Gupta, managing director, Plaza cable group of companies, and SSP, Karnal, Aishwinder Singh Chawla, contains stories written by Naseem over a period spanning four decades. Born in Gujranwala (joint Punjab) on October 5, 1906, PL Chopra graduated from Dyal Singh College , Lahore , before joining government services as Junior Prosecutor in 1929. At the time of partition, he was serving in East Punjab, which happened to be on this side of the Radcliff Award and never returned to his birthplace in West Punjab (now in Pakistan ). After his retirement in 1961 as Prosecution Deputy Superintendent, Karnal, Naseem started practicing criminal law and soon became a leading criminal lawyer in Karnal district. However, his passion for penning down poems and stories in Urdu did not die down and he pursued criminal law and creative art of writing simultaneously with equal zeal till his demise on March 29, 1970. A man of varied interests, Naseem was a member of the Karnal Club and Bazm-E-Sukhan. His first poetry book in Urdu, Aaina-e-dil, was published by leading publishers of Delhi in 1961 and later translated in English under the title “The mirror of heart”. Naseem’s poetry contains the choicest oriental thoughts in pithy and several of his verses on amorous, heroic or philosophical themes have become an oft-quoted quotes to illustrate poignant suspenseful and lifting situations. The devotional element virtually eliminates the dividing link between mundane and the divine and creates a musical impact. my favourite position for working on the lap top is having it on a trolley ,level to my bed, which ofcourse is strategically so placed to give me enough sunlight in winters,shade in summers, and also enjoy the pitter- patter of the raindrops!
Youtube is the best for the upload of your DVDS; very popular for catching up with what may have been missed out… I too watch it frequently especially for comic episodes, the British, Canadian comedies, etc etc!
Watched the Bastille Day parade; great equestrian show and ofcourse our smart Indian contigents!!

As mentioned by a previous guest, TOTAL RECALL is already available for viewing at youtube. But in future if you’d like to upload exclusive dvd material, all you need is a youtube account and the material saved on your hard drive. You may only be able to do so in bits and pieces say 20 minutes at a time. There is a size limit on uploads. You can do all of this within a few clicks. It is quite simple. Hope this helps!
Re Uploading your DVD’s…I would suggest that you speak to the guys/gals at BigAdda and have them do it on your Blog…at least this way you can still control it..

Oh MrB, I always get mad when I think about all the Indian soldiers who died in WW2 and never get an acknowledgment because we were under the British then. There is some world forum which has all the countries that fought in that war, I forget the name. But India isn’t in it! Isn’t that UNFAIR?
So it’s nice that our PM and troops were invited for the Bastille Day parade. Especially since such a thing hasn’t happened before.

AT the Mumbai airport, I made a mistake in my immigration form: i wrote Indian in my Nationality …I was supposed to write American and the immigration officer laughed at me and said in hindi ‘ that i always feel inside’ and I replied YES, I am Indian.
I miss India so much dont know what to do. It is sooooo hard.

Sunny all the way, except for a morning coastal fog..
Camping has been a pleasure so far.. The campground is among the gigantic conifer trees on the cliff over the ocean. A lot of people.. I was lucky to find a camping spot last night ! Atmosphere is very safe and friendly - like always in such environs in America.
I slept well in my tent with the sound of the waves very loud and near.. At he low tide about 5:30 in the morning I took a walk and took a lot of pictures of marine life with my friend’s digital camera, that I borrowed. Amazingly I saw two bald eagles flying by, very close I could hear their wings ! These are the ones with white feathers on their heads. Magnificent birds !

Regarding the suggestion for showing 2 DVD’s worth of content, bigadda technical folks can put a dedicated area of the page (like the poll and moblog) with videos and photo albums in it. This will give access to all the videos and photos that have been uploaded in the past. That way, everything will be in one place and we don;t have to find photos or videos by digging in the blog entries. The links to the videos and photos can be put in the daily blog entries.
The best way is to setup video streaming on your web site. You will need help from bigadda.com folks to do this. It can be done using “Microsoft Silverlight” OR “Adobe Flash Player” .
I would recommend using “Microsoft Silverlight” since it is very easy to setup and very easy for the web site users to use. I think the technical staff at bigadda will find it much faster to setup and use.

Wow 2 DVDs on net is something like 3 GB of data (1 DVD approximately takes 1.2 GB when compressed). Thats not too much in days of unlimited broadband accounts. I don’t think BigAdda should host it unless they have their logo/watermark or something in the dvd that will cover their hosting costs against indirect marketing. Otherwise a easier way would be keep it on 5 remote servers and use the torrent technology to seed it on the net. We as the EF can download the DVDs via torrent using free programs like Bittorrent.
I know my suggestion is not clear and simple enough, but it is. Just take a bit of explanation from your technical staff from Bigadda on this. The easiest way surely would be their server hosting it. But please keep for download at good quality like DivX. Don’t make it a low resolution messy thing to be watched online like youtube videos.

Thank you for sending these photos. You know we always love to see you, and hence these photos are of course of interest to us.
It is so amazing and wonderful this habit you have been maintaining for years of meeting up with your fans every Sunday. lucky are the Indian people to have you among them, and to be living in close proximity to you. I wish you would always maintain this habit for many many years, and may you always cherish the love and affection which you truly deserve.
It is great and relieving these torrential rains have calmed down and stopped, and that life is getting back to normal. It must have made a lot of disorder, but I hope it didn’t leave any serious damages. And Mr.B, please don’t say that about yourself, but these technicians should be more open minded people as to accept new ideas and give it a try.
Of course Mr.B, as you say, we usually feel helpless when natural catastrophe strikes, and we may lose our control over things. I remember when one of the cities in the USA was hit by a strong hurricane and destroyed the city completely. They showed it in the news and also the authorities were to blame for the inefficiency of handling the situation, especially that the city got isolated because of the damage and there were difficulties to send supplies and food for the people.
But I think the monsoon doesn’t happen suddenly, but it happens every year in Mumbai, so there should be extra precautions and more preparations for it. This will definitely help in reducing its effects and in decreasing the damage it may cause.
Oh, I am sorry I can’t help in giving suggestions as to how to upload those DVDs on the internet. Iam sure many of EF will have helpful solutions.
I haven’t got the chance to watch this interview though I think my friend Kishore has it among the huge collection of videos on the facebook group. But I will definitely love to watch it, and hope you will manage to put it here on the blog soon.
I spent a wonderful and charming time today on the beach of the Mediterranean sea. Like everybody else, I love the sea and enjoy getting lost in my imagination and my thoughts while sitting in front of it. You have been on my mind, more so while listening to some songs from your movies which give me company wherever I go.
I think we too are expecting the prime minister of India to visit Egypt soon. I feel good because of the several attempts to strengthen these bonds between my country and yours.

I searched and saw there is a software program called iMovie from Apple (considering that you mentioned using a Mac) that you can use to edit movie / video content. But more importantly, you will likely need to import the DVD content into your machine in a format such as AVI or MPEG or MP4. There are software programs available to do just that … for example, http://www.aoamedia.com/ . I don’t know if iMovie itself supports the import also. And I have not used any of these myself, so please pardon any mistakes I might have made here.
As #93 mentions, there is video streaming that bigadda can setup. But I mentioned these other methods as something you can enjoy doing even for ‘timepass’

One could easily juxtapose the first row of photographs here with scenes from either Sarkar film and find a perfect correspondence. This is a diegetic/non-diegetic twinning if ever there was one. Of course I’ve been saying this for years. RGV understood this rather well. At least up until he decided to bump off Abhishek in a somewhat perverse move. Narratively effective but one that subverts the entire logic of the franchise. Not in a good sense necessarily. The sensationalist struggles with the pop auteur in RGV and often the former wins out over the latter.
I would love to see someone do Henry IV (both parts with you and Abhishek). Not the least of the advantages here for current ‘Bollywood’ sensibilities there is a sequel for the asking in Henry V. Hal has in many ways been my favorite Shakespearean character. He is of course one of the great ‘actors’ in Shakespeare’s world. The question of when he acts and when he doesn’t is often a vexed one, especially when he becomes king and there is that legendary rejection of Falstaff. But Hal teaches it seems to me another crucial lesson in the context of the Sarkar subject I’ve raised. Hal cannot ‘choose’ to be his father’s son. He is that son not just in the obvious biological sense but also in terms of being a legatee. This is his reality and he cannot evade it. The only question is where he will have the will and the wish to inherit the legacy in more than a merely formal sense. As it turns out Hal is simply waiting to ‘redeem the time’ when ‘men think least I will’. He is an expert politician not least because he knows how to exercise ‘power’. This once again gets me back to Sarkar. Power must be exercised or it dissipates. In other words it is a dynamic phenomenon, not a static one. Apparent only in its exercise.
In your world yours is a legacy far greater, far more potent than Henry IV’s. For Abhishek to cross this as Henry V did with his father’s inheritance would seem to be a rather tall order to say the least! The analogy is of course inexact not only for this reason. But Abhishek isn’t a bad Hal for reasons of performance as well. Isn’t he very much the public prankster? The guy the media likes to take to task for (in their presumption) not being very ’serious’. As if some of the remarkable performances he’s delivered simply come about! But this impression is not an uncommon one among audiences, sometimes even people who are great fans of his. I have often disagreed with many in such conversations. The larger question I have is not whether he has the will or the drive to be the best star-actor he can but whether he has the ’steel’ needed. I differentiate incidentally between sheer or ruthless opportunism and ’steel’. Again Hal. To be a good or great king he has to reject Falstaff. No two ways about it. A great public figure of necessity has to sacrifice the ‘personal’.
I was talking about a film version of this. Vishal Bhardwaj would seem to be ideally suited for such an interpretation except that his Shakespeare films for all their sincerity (I vastly prefer Omkara to Maqbool) have nonetheless dismayed me with their lack of fidelity to the electric quality of shakespeare’s great plays. An understanding of speed and momentum is essential for any interpretation of Shakespeare. Bhardwaj’s films can often be sluggish and liberally paced. With the Bard though it is all about the plays hurtling forward with an awesome energy. Certainly this is the case for the two Bhardwaj took up. But it seems to me that Henry IV has a lot of ‘masala’ moments as well. One could do a mujra here! There is comedy, drama, a father-son tussle and so on. As I suggested you and Abhishek would do well here. But who could play Falstaff? This scene stealing part is such a hard one. Rishi Kapoor in current form (with due respect to him.. I have always adored him so I mean this only positively)? He and Abhishek shared some nice moments in Delhi 6. I think there are some very interesting possibilities to be had.
If only someone in Bombay has the imagination to attempt it..

Imagine all those many people whose lives are enriched, who get immense joy and satisfaction to get your darshan…just one glimpse of you, your gratitude, your smile, your wave and people feel blessed…truly a wonderful deed that you do when you can on Sundays by coming out to see the crowds outside Jalsa. It is so gratifying to know that you also ask the rest of the family members to join you on some days. Your humility is simply incredible.
I am chuckling and thinking about the technician who was being supervised and getting ideas from you. I can imagine him being stunned in awe and probably saying to himself, “this guy knows about this too.….manna padega Sirji ko”
It’s great to know about India’s representation at the Bastille Day parade. I am glad Mr. Sarkozy reciprocated in kind. Thank you for reminding us of the huge contribution and sacrifices made by Indian soldiers in both WW1 and WW2.
I am happy to say that in Britain we have Remembrance Day or Poppy Day held on 11th November to remember the men and women who sacrificed their lives in both world wars and other conflicts. The country observes a 2 minute silence at 11 am in the morning on this day. Special services are held in churches, near war memorials all over the country on Remembrance Sunday, which falls nearest to 11 November. Wreaths are laid and people also leave small wooden crosses to remember their family member who died in war. A national ceremony is held at the Cenotaph, Whitehall in London where the Queen lays the first wreath on this Sunday. It is very moving. I am glad to say that our Indian soldiers are also remembered in different ceremonies both at local and national level.
Thank you for thinking of your EF again and wanting us to have access to the 2 DVD’s of ‘Total Recall’. This would be a good momento for all in the EF to have, especially with your interview, to celebrate and remember your 40 years in the film industry. I think you will have to ask your server team at BigAdda to load them onto their servers for us to then view or download but I do wonder how ‘smoothly’ this would work even with faster internet speeds? Sorry I am not offering immediate solutions but merely raising questions. I am sure there will be someone in the EF with an immediate solution.

I think the phrase you are searching for this greenscreen technique is “chroma key”.
For those of EF not fully in the picture, Mr Bachchan’s photos helped reveal to us how an actor (or TV newsreader perhaps) is shot against a plain coloured background, traditionally green or blue, and then the person’s image can be separated from this background electronically and ‘keyed in’ to any background of the director’s choice. So Mr Bachchan could appear to be in the jungle with a tiger, or in a snowdrift in Simla, or in front of the Eiffel Tower. Or on the Brooklyn Bridge with Rochelle.
Of course the performer has to be careful not to wear, for example, a shirt in the same colour as the background.
Other phrase used in the TV industry is colour separation overlay or colour keying.

I wish I could be of some help with your two DVDs, but I am not an expert on video streaming nor am as capable as may be many others; yet I try.
You can upload your video files on to http://www.youtube.com and then provide its URL link on your blog for viewing. Unfortunately, it is not a straight forward procedure.
To achieve this, firstly, your video files need to be in one of the following formats:
.3GP, .AVI, .MOV, .MP4, .MPEG, .FLV, .SWF .
If it is not, it can preferably be converted into MPEG4 video with MP3 audio format. Conversion tools are easily available on the Net. Windows Movie Maker is a good tool to achieve this.
Secondly, the video file should not be more than 2GB (10 minutes duration). If it is longer, it should be divided into smaller parts and then uploaded as separate video clips for viewing in parts.
Thirdly, you will first need to install on your laptop a program called YouTubeUploader. It is available on http://www.youtube.com .
Fourthly, but the foremost, you will need to register yourself on http://www.youtube.com to do all the above.
All the above was about YouTube.
There are video streaming technology available using which unlimited length of video can be played without any limitation on file size or time duration. Unfortunately, for this you will need assistance of your bigadda experts.

The best way to put the DVDs across is the ‘rip’ the DVD using a DVD ripper software easily available. Then once you have saved the raw video on your computer, you can easily upload the video on the internet on either youtube.com, google videos or vimeo.com. It should not be a difficult task sir!

I remember you mentioning that you try and come out every sunday evening for your fans and its amazing to see the huge turnout in the pics (i hope there is not too much pushing and shoving to get in the front!). I will definately try to come one day just to try get a glimpse of the man who I have admired and respected for so very long. I am sure the ideas you gave to the technicians on the water proofing were sound. This brings a thought - when you give ideas to producers and directors are they usually implemented especially as you are senior and have alot of acting experience/knowledge. It must be so difficult for people to turn your ideas down as you are so mesmerizing.
I don’t know much about uploading the dvds but feel that you should ask BigAdda to do it for you. Also Mr Bachchan, on Day 411(i) you had shown us a pic and asked us to guess what it is?. I don’t recall seeing the answer - please can you let me know what the pic is of?

It’s been a long overdue- Wanted to suggest acupuncture or acupressure for your back pain. I had them too and was completely bed ridden for a month or two however everything changed with acupressure for back in India and since I am in the US now i took to acupuncture for my neck pain.Completely treated with no recurrence and no medications.
Trust me it works wonders. Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!! Now of my chest…I don’t have to feel guilty anymore for not taking the time out to tell you.

# 77 Usha Eshwaran, re: your query to Amitji about the veracity of the incident of the rock being pushed an inch each day by the late Dr. Bachchan until he brought it to his doorstep. I have heard this story from Amitji himself, and so I assume it must be true. The occasion was Bachchan Sandhya, organized by Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan at the Lincoln Center in Manhattan to commemorate the birth centenary of Dr. Bachchan and to honor him for his contribution to Hindi literature. It was August 19, 2007.
Amitji sat on a simple chair at an almost bare desk on the large stage in the beautiful hall and read his father’s poetry. It was a starkly magnifient setting for a deeply moving and memorable event. Amitji’s legendary voice reading his father’s great poetry, his soulful, flawless rendition enhancing the beauty of the words — what more could one ask for. It was fascinating, and I was in heaven, along with the thousands of other listeners, as I love Dr. Bachchan’s poetry AND Amitji’s voice.
Abhishek and Aishwarya were also there. Amitji released Pushpa Bharti’s book on his father’s poetry. He also spoke about his father, and related several anecdotes, highlighting Dr. Bachchan’s simplicity, tenacity, and capacity for hard work. The rock incident was one of those narrated by Amitji during that evening.
See if you can research this, maybe there is a video-recording on youtube of Bachchan Sandhya. It was a mesmerizing evening, deeply imprinted upon my mind.

I think the best way to add video’s with Google account. also you will need a DVD reader to copy thoese two dvd’s to hard drive you can use free DZVD to MP4 converter software from this site (http://www.macdvdtools.com/dvd-ripper-for-mac.html?gclid=CJ79×9XP2JsCFRHxDAodhFsp_g) after converting completed you can upload it to google video or you can upload it to megaupload.com or veoh.com these sites do not have any limit but only thing is that you need to convert the video’s to appropriate format i think google accept’s mp4, avi, mpeg, .mov. but once you copy dvd to local drive then you can convert the video to format that goolge, youtube, megaupload can accept it.
i hope it helps some Mac has vidoe converting software pre-loaded so you can just take dvd to mp4

I have just been back from work. Our Pharmacy is one of the stations to get the medication for swine flu. I can only say that it is scary as we are having a lot of customers coming for the medicine. Obviously the protocol is in place but it is amazing how many people are having the medicine.

Over 17 cases alone in UK, thousands now worldwide, will be 100k by end of August as anticipated.. just another plague.. history repeating…as Nostradamus had said it was meant to happen.. amongst other statements mentioned that have and are happening!!!
Another fact 2 million already out of work in the UK.. such morbid and grim facts… yet on the other hand, one newspaper boasts of Simon Cowell signing an Amrikan contract of £100 million per yr to host Amrikan Idol… and getting 2.2 million for 1 hour… Now what are we to make of this… don’t know whether it makes me cry or laugh!!!!
And yet today the grief and proud moments of the 8 British soldiers flown back from Afghanistan, these comrades altogether, as one after another they follow in their hearse, as they silence the streets of Wootton Bassett (Wilts) a moment for these heroes to shine, yet the families devastated as the heroes only age from being only 18 yrs -28 yrs… We salute all those here and around the world that put their necks on the line for their country, may God give strength to the families and may they all R.I.P.

You could even call a naturally produced image a “picture”. The word picture can even refer to a memory or mental process that is by nature completely immaterial.
“Photograph” virtually always refers to a physical image created with chemical or digital imaging technology.”
It seems that you almost record everything and must be having humongous collection. Still EF is waiting for your comments on the last poll. This new poll is not challanging enough to turn in to blue or green!

This is my first comment on your blog. But I am a regular reader.
As regards the video question, the best option would be to upload it to youtube. You can then embed the video on this page and people wanting to watch will not have to go to youtube to watch. There are step by step instructions, but I guess that you can ask one of the tech fellows to do it for you.
Also you can check with TIMESNOW. They upload a lot of videos on their site, they maybe can upload this video if you request for it.

On that DVDs Bigadda seems to be your best bet. DVDs are in vob format and must be converted/transcoded in to flash format (smaller and compressed) to be viewed on web. Those clips are already on Youtube though in lower quality. So one phone call to Bigadda should take care of it (In ideal world!).

I can see most people with smiles on their faces which certainly proves they did not return disappointed. Yes no doubt god has been very kind to you. Another wish added to my wish list: I wish I could be one in that crowd someday to have a real glimpse of you. However in the meantime I remain content with the ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity we got in seeing where you lived and being able to take a photo of your house at least. That was funny, I insisted that the driver parks the car across the road so that I could take a photo. That personal piece of photography proudly resides in my album now. I wish I knew Shanouk then, I could have woof woofed to him through the gates ie if I survived the guards sticks then and had a photo session with him instead!!!
I wondered why you are sitting on that stack of chairs. Still must have been uncomfortable and unsteady I guess. Oh I sure love that action packed photo of yours on that ‘green carpet’. Real James Bond kind of shot!!

As for the dvd, loaded in parts on youtube is the only option I can think of unless Bigadda is kind enough to load it straight on it’s platform. Look forward to it.

Hi,
I know you may got answers for your video upload by this time, if not please follow these steps to upload videos for your blog.
1. Upload video in any video supporting website like youtube.com (you need to create id if you don’t have) or any other site like google video etc. which supports embeded videos. FYI, even bigadda.com videos link also support emebeded links (I came to know when I created my account today) so you can upload your videos there (Don’t forget to mark in/out the privacy like make it searchable to everyone etc which you don’t need)
2. Once Upload of your video is done open up the video with the link specified it will run the video in respective site. Now search for the text “Embeded” in that page (It might be at right or bottom of the video). For bigadda its at bottom of the video.
3. You will find certain HTML text written in the text box against the “Embeded” option copy the complete text. This is the text which will show the video at your blog
4. Open up your blog at bigadda.com and while creating blog you will find a tab written as “HTML” use that tab and paste the content you copied in step 3.
5. Save it and you will find the video is embeded inside your blog post. You can add text in regular way (you do with image) around/with the video.

The way you treat your fans when they come to your residence is very exceptional. Yes, millions and not thousands adore you. I do not know of any other actor in Bollywood who does anything for their beloved fans as you do. One only has to look at the number of response s from your blog every day to see how we all adore you. You truly are very humble to all your fans who only seek a small sign from you that you have noticed them, waved at them, or smiled at them. That is enough for a mere fan. That is all they seek. Anything more is a bonus.
Your pictures posted look good. I like the one where you are sitting on a number of red chairs propped up for your back. I think the management could have done better for your back.
It is good the rain and the huge deluge have stopped in Mumbai and people can put their houses back in order. At least they may have some wet items, which they may be able to recover. Just imagine how the Victorians here in Melbourne suffered when the fires raged through the towns. One town has been completely lost. There is nothing there but ashes. So flooding is a little better than fires.
As for putting the DVD on the web, I do it using imovie program. The instructions are simple to extract the movie and then it can be posted on utube. You will need a clearance from utube, as one has to register.

1st Way: IF BIGADDA supports video hosting, then you can upload your video here and then provide the link here on your blog.
2nd Way: If BigAdda does not supports video hosting, then you can upload in the most popluar youTube.com (This is from google company), after you upload the video there is a link for EMBEDED. Just copy and paste that link here and we the reader of this blog can see the video right here.
But it would be appropriate to ask BigAdda team as it depends if they support video upload.

You can put it on youtube if it isn’t already there. I was actually able to watch a recorded copy that was uploaded online a few weeks ago. I commented on your blog about the Dilip Kumar story you told about how he didn’t give you an autograph, but I know how busy you are so sometiems you can’t read all the posts. Quick Tip:
The best way would be to ask Bigadda to help you have a ‘Video’ section on the blog which is maintained by them. So you can simply request them to give you a friendly interface where you can point your video and upload it. Personally I feel it is a big mess (time consuming & frustrating at times) to try things like youtube, veoh, etc.
This way the data (pictures, blogs, polls, videos) shall reside under the same roof and it shall be easier to maintain. (just a phone call away if anything goes wrong)

Dear Amitji, Good Morning. The photographs posted by you of Sunday evening gathering outside your house is a spontanious testimony to your value a super hero in many lives. The angry young man to love ka badshah and many other roles played by you bring people to your door to see and admire your humility in responding to them in many ways as you mentioned. Hope someday Abhishek also continues this legacy and the crowds swell even more. May be a seperate pandal can be erected and fans can move in a systematic way and shake hands or take autographs for posterity.
Your photograph on chairs the last one is a measure of your comfortable height. Each chair can add 4inches and one can gauge the extra height that makes you comfortable. Just a wild thinking if the barber was of Mukri’s height then how he would adjust to cutting your hair. May be a special platform adjustable one may be and another alternative would be your dentist chair. But the barber does not work at dentist angle!
Total recall must have been a trip down the memory lane of 40years. May be in your heart the lane would narrow and traverse even further down in to unmentioned struggles of young life. Forty may be the comfortable part.
We have excellent net savvy EF members like Kishore and Deepak. I must admit one thing Amitji the dedication of Kishore to bigb group is immense and unheard of. His postings despite bad health defy many norms. I hope someday you specially mention and compliment Kishore and also bless him so that he regains good health and his suffering ends.
Deepak is another gem of a person and lucky one too. He can always peep in to your house being in the closest vicinity. Sometimes I envy their tech savvyness and feel I must have started on computers long back. There was time when it took me one minute typing with one finger now atleast due to blogging with you I can reasonably type with both hands. The most happiest person is now my PA.
My certificate of first job had that sentence: Ravi is capable of putting in hard-work whenever required. These words always linger in my memory lane and push me to keep the statement of my mentor live. So I try to work and may be hard at times.
You must have also had some reason for hard work and the midnight cycling of your father must have been the real flame that gave you unending energy and stamina which culminated in to things like Total Recall and your tours of recent past. Zeal to work and do things deeply involved and meticuosly planned. The Leadership in any field needs such qualities and I must admit there is lot to learn from you and your life. The Blog also is a great learning experience and we will cherish it forever.
So what begins as a wave of hand or a smal talk or autograph or a photograph or video goes long way in enriching lives. That is true purpose of living a good life and becoming a mirror to self and others. Certainly one improves after any mirror session.

THE WOODEN BOWL
You will remember the tale of the Wooden Bowl tomorrow, a week from now, a month from now, a year from now.
A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and four-year - old grandson.
The old man’s hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered.
The family ate together at the table. But the elderly grandfather’s shaky hands and
failing sight made eating difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor.
When he grasped the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth.
The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess. ‘We must do something about father,’ said the son.
‘I’ve had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor.’
So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner.
There, Grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner.
Since Grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl.
When the family glanced in Grandfather’s direction, sometimes he had a tear in his eye as he sat alone.
Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he dropped a fork or spilled food.
The four-year-old watched it all in silence.
One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor.
He asked the child sweetly, ‘What are you making?’ Just as sweetly, the boy responded,
‘Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and Mama to eat your food in when I grow up. ‘
The four-year-old smiled and went back to work.
The words so struck the parents so that they were speechless.
Then tears started to stream down their cheeks.
Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done.
That evening the husband took Grandfather’s hand and gently led him back to the family table.
For the remainder of his days he ate every meal with the family. And for some reason, neither husband nor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled.
On a positive note,
I’ve learned that, no matter what happens, how bad it seems today, life doesgo on, and it will be better tomorrow.
I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he /she handles four things: a rainy day, the elderly, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.
I’ve learned that, regardless of your relationship with your parents, you’ll miss them when they’re gone from your life.
I’ve learned that making a ‘living’ is not the same thing as making a ‘life..’
I’ve learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance.
I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back
I’ve learned that if you pursue happiness, it will elude you But, if you focus on your family, your friends, the needs of others, your work and doing the very best you can, happiness will find you

The file needs to be split for users to have good and complete downloads may be 15 mins of each file, else it will be difficult to have the big files downloaded and we from EF will not be able to save it in our library.
Infact I have seen both the episodes and did wish to have a permanent copy of the same. I hope post you uploading the files will provide us with this opportunity.

As I was reading your blog today, it reminded me that Albanians and Indians do actually have something in common, and that is Mother TERESA. This Albanian woman with Indian citizenship who was one of the biggest humanitarians in the world. It’s interesting how in everyday life or even movies, people refer to Mother Teresa as the symbol of love, giving, forgiving, and more. I was laughing one night watching a movie when this guy was asked for some money and a favor and his response was: “Absolutely not. Who do you think I am, Mother Teresa?”
She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, in 1980 for her humanitarian work. So, even though for many she is known as the Mother Teresa of Calcutta, for many others she is the Albanian nun that opened her home to many indians and many others later on all over the world. We as Albanians are very proud of her, as I hope you are as well. What do you think of her?

Loved the pictures and couldn’t help but envy all those folks who have met you over the years, shook hands with you, talked to you. No, I can’t explain why I would envy them or why I should care. You are, after all, just another human being, a very talented one I must add, going through the trials and tribulations of life. Why I wonder the envy in me and why the eagerness and hope to someday run into you and Jayaji. I don’t know. I have no answer to this question even if I search deep down, I can’t figure it out. Is it the magic of the movies but I know better. Besides, I remember, some time back, the Roshans were here, in Santa Fe, NM, shooting for the movie Kites and while all my friends had descended on Santa Fe from Los Alamos, to catch a glimpse of the star, I remember asking one of the organizers if there was any chance that you might visit Santa Fe! This being such a remote place and all.
So,I wonder, if as a huge fan of your acting and as a great admirer of you, I can’t really pinpoint as to why I would give anything to just say ‘hello’ to you in person, will you as humble as you are, ever understand what it is about you that we love. No you won’t because you don’t think of yourself as special. I know for most of us, our love for you is genuine.

IF you want to upload the bigger size videos you can do that in two ways.
One is you can be a member of Rapidshare website and upload them but you have to cut it in smaller sizes like 100 or 200 MBs.
Second option is you can upload them on youtube to but you have to cut them in smaller sizes and have to be a member which is totally free.
Todays, poll was nice and little technical.
Using green or blue colour as a background and changing them with real background is called Chroma Key. In Dellhi 6 movie they used this technique.

I have seen the your interview with Times now ” TOTAL RECALL ” .
It was broadcasted in 2 parts and a repeat telecast was done on following days.I have seen both the parts and the repeat broadcast too.In short it was just BRILLIANT and filled with such finesse .Fans and others who have missed the programme have missed a classic interview. I am a great fan of Mr Arnab Goswami of Times Now and to me he is the best anchor in our country as of date. Sir , I didnt know tht Mrs Arnab had taken the interview cos his face was never shown , leave that even his voice was never heard in both the programmes. For me it was good cos I could hear / see more of you in the tightly fit programme. I think a 2 hours programme is too short to fit yr “TOTAL RECALL ‘ .
Some of yr ancedotes were amazing like of Sholay where the makers were thinking of reshooting the end (they were thinking of shooting the end with you surviving ) after the poor response from public on first couple of days .How you and Dharmedra sir dodged the fan and public of Bangalore in a auto was so funny .

I appreciate the pains you take to write this blog, though I have never read more than one or maybe two of your posts.
But there are a few questions which baffles me. I hope that I will not be misjudged by them, and I am sure I will get an honest reply.
There is no doubt in the fact that it is actually “You” who post the blog, or at least that is what I would like to believe so.
1) Apart from the love, support and wishes of your innumerable fans, do you receive some other sort of monetary remuneration too? I know that you are at such a financial status of your life that any form of monetary gain might seem trivial to you, but i wonder how is it that a man as busy as you gets time almost everyday to post his thoughts which I am sure would take up at least a good one hour. Besides what I find more amusing is the fact that you caught the blogging bug only when Reliance decided to enter into the social networking bandwagon; and knowing your close proximity to the Ambanis (more towards Jr.Ambani if I am correct) it seemed obvious to rope you in as their unofficialy official ambassador to their BigAdda site and of course to get a wide consumer base largely due to your name, and of course repeated number of visitors just because of your blog.
And as a very wise man had said that there are no free lunches; i wonder what gourmet is in store for you?
Pardon my ignorance, but I cannot help but wonder, that if reaching out to your fans was your sole purpose and not any monetary gain then you could have set up your own website/domain like one of the established Super Star (A certain Khan) has. Your fans would have come to your site nevertheless, be it at BigAdda, or at NoAdda!
i might be sounding very cynical, but I want you to believe me that I have no disrespect for you. It is true that I am NOT a big fan of yours, but I have enjoyed watching certain movies of yours. As a matter of fact I am not a big fan of any other actor except for just one..a certain Mr.Perfectionist Khan.
2) And yes about the SUV thing(Yes, I read that post where you blasted the poor chap), all I would like to say is that charity begins at home.
I am just 24 years old and I live in Sweden. This year when I was buying a car, I had my eye on a 4 year old Toyota Land Cruiser (I am a huge fan of SUVs), but then I decided to buy a Toyota Prius Hybrid which runs on electric and fuel(Although I had to pay a few thousand more for it); and the only reason I had was the environmental concern. I agree and accept to all the reasons you gave. But I am sure if a person as insignificant as me can opt for Toyota Prius Hybrid over a LandCruiser; I can only imagine the kind of impact you would have had in at least some people by shunning away your SUV for a hybrid vehicles. And yes, India has hybrid vehicles by Honda, but I understand that it might be too small a brand to suit your persona and stature.
I must be sounding like a villain, but I like looking at both sides of the coin, and some times more towards the darker side.
I would like to wish you luck in all your forthcoming endeavors, and hope you and the rest as well are safe from the Mumbai water problems.

The most simple way to share the 2 DVD’s is to upload them on youtube and share the link with the EF on you forthcoming blog. I cannot think of any other option. Even if you did try and put it up on the blog I guess the files would be to large to download. Those that access the net at cafes or with fairly low speeds the download would prove cumbersome. Youtube would resize it for easier viewing.
It surely was a proud moment for every Indian to see their armed forces march down the Champs-Élysées for the celebration of Bastille Day. It was the first for India and hopefully not the last.

regarding uploading 2 dvds on the net…i believe the best option is to divide it into 100mb files and upload to storing sites like rapidshare.com, megashare etc….
u can provide the links on the blog….any one interested can dowload the files and attach them…..it is not as complicated as it seems and your team might help you with it. Uploading on youtube may not be possbile as they have time limit of 10 mins or so per file.
and i am happy that u mentioned maratha light infantry marching in france……..it makes me even more proud tp let u know that the head quarter of maratha light infantry is in Belgaum(kar) my town….yes the same town where u shot for Bombay to goa and abhimaan………….remember???

I have seen it many times before and seem to learn something new with each viewing. Baghban is in that group of films that I watch when my mind and heart need a little “spiritual” and “emotional” uplifting. I did see the show Total Recall . Am in Bahrain so the time difference is almost two and half hours , but managed to see both the episodes. Perhaps the Government were ill prepared for this particular bought of freak weather; but we must not let them abdicate responsibility altogether. It is solely their task to plan for every eventuality and protect the financial capital from unnecessary standstill.
Yes, Britain this apparently developed nation is NO better! The slightest dusting of snow a few months ago caused London and surrounding counties to shut down entirely!! To top it all we have to contend with flummoxed frumps fron the Government “assuring us” that the standstill is necessary to control the crisis!
Lets hope this experience is a learning curve!
I remember you speaking of the Total Recall program some months ago.. I didn’t attempt to advise you on how to upload the DVD’s, but I see clever Kishore has found a way!! This will make ideal lunchtime viewing methinks…

Glad I have a few minutes in place to read you this morning while having a tea break.
Lovely post as ever and I see the smatterering of self deprication which always makes me smile are in place.
Still very busy my end - to tell the truth , I have been busy, chasing different colleges and institution for myself and for a friend. At one point in my life I travelled, and while I travelled I studied, and stutdied and studied - through different trainings, colleges, institutions. And do you know what? I have been so busy in my own World and personal life. I have not even bothered to collect my certificates, Diplomas, etc.etc. So I thought it was time to collect them all and bring them home. And so many chasing up and so many phonecalls to make. And of course, since some of them some yrs have lapsed I had to send proof of who I was. So many letters of explanation via emails, faxing necessary proof and papers. Phew, I never imagined it would take so much of my time. But now all over.
And me being glutton fo punishment, I think I am back to having the itch to study again. So I applied for a course and got my letter of acceptance this morning. So we’ll see…
So you see, Mr Bachchan - Amitji, busy…
And this morning - and for the rest of the week, and possibly till next week, need to concentrate on tax forms/returns. I have less than 2 wks before the deadline. So you see ?? Busy still…

Oh, it was so sweet and so endearing of you to have said what you did, about the best of Govts being brought down to their knees in the face of natural calamities, and that of the police being out there in full force! I guess this is what we all, collectively, need to do too - atleast be honest and kind enough to point out the positives instead of highlighting the negatives all of the time! I am truly very touched! About the media’s wanting to know if you’ve built a ramp for your cars….I wouldn’t put it past them to come up with an entirely different story - out of context, woven around your response to them! I hope you’ve declined to comment on that one!
About your request for tips on how to up/download the 2 DVDs of the Total Recall featuring you, on the net….search me - my guess is as good as yours - infact, I feel ashamed to even be talking about it - I am utterly clueless about these things - but ever since I’ve been here, I have learnt a lot - am still learning - small and tiny things, which facilitate my understanding of this technology better from so many of our discerning, helpful, caring and technically sound EF, not to mention your own expertise in this field! The Bastille Day!! You know, it was an indescribable emotion that both my husband and I experienced when we saw our troops marching down the Champs-Elysee and Dr. Man Mohan Singh seated there as the Guest of Honour!! My grand father-in-law had fought the First World War in Paris, Rome and then in Afghanistan. He was in the 3rd Horse Cavalry, and his picture, alongwith the rest of his Unit appears in Hew Strachan’s book, The First World War. He was decorated with the King George V Cross in 1914, the George V Kaiser-e-Hind in NWF post, Afghanistan and then a second Kaiser-e-Hind in India and another decoration for his participation in The Great War For Civilisation - 1914-1919. His father and our great-grand father was bestowed with the Victoria Regina Decoration in 1895, before him! Both father and son had served in the same Unit! My husband is the seventh consecutive generation to have been in the Indian Army. I feel extremely proud to be sharing this with you today!

Ur very right wen u said that we all should do what we can do best in a situation.Govt usually do their best but then too it could have been a little better if regular checks on the drainage systems are performed.Trust me am not wanting much from our leaders but only yearly checks which i dont think should be too much.

My instincts as a mother would take over. Today I salute not only the true Heroes who gave up their lives to protect me and many of the previous generations but I also salute those, their own, whom they left behind. I salute the mothers who carried them in their bodies for nine months and nurtured them, I salute those sisters who tied Rakhis but could not avert their destinies, I salute fathers whose hands they held while walking to school, I salute brothers for the void left in their lives. Be it UK or India or anywhere else, one remains forever in debt. Can their be a bigger sacrifice?
I shall watch Total Recall on You Tube (thank you Kishore ji for bringing it to our attention) when I get an opportunity. On You Tube, there also happens to be video footage of a spectacular display of fireworks at the Eiffel Tower as they celebrate the Bastilles Day.

Sometime back my dearest American friend Gisele Barbosa called up to give the most distressful news of the death of her son Patrick..
I share a copy of my mail here for the friends who knew her.. she became my friend just because of you and we had been in great touch and interacted for more than two years now.. She did use this word etended family in her novel .. The fate of Power..
The fate has taken away one of her four son.. Patrick wa shis third son and was doing graduation.. he was founddead in his bed yesterday morning.. Gisele did not say anything else except just kept crying out loudly and seeking justice from God..
May she gets the strength to bear the unbearable loss and I pray for the peace for Patrcik..

God be with you in this hour of unbearable distress and the most unfortunate time to have lost Patrick! May his soul rest in peace.. May God always take care of him in special ways as his physical existence on this earth came to an unexpected sudden end!
I would not be able to express my grief as much hard as I try I fail to find words to console you and yor family in this most dreadful experience of loosing someone as nice and as competent and able and affectionate Patrick.. I know God is taking a big test of you.. of your ability to bear the tough times.. in such times it is very difficult t be able to come to terms with life.. the great siginficance that one attaches with one’s children that too the ones that have lived for nearly 20 years.. the loss is almost irreparable.. the shocking news of the death of dear Patrick makes me speechless..
May God grant you the capacity to undergo this toughest ordeal that a mother has to bear in the death of one of his beloved child.. Patrick, I beleive will always be there in your thoughts and will always be remembered by all who knew him as one of those chidren that od himself loved a lt that he called him to his own world… I do not find any simple logic in such tests that God puts his subjects as by having to bear the loss of their own children..
I particularly remember my father did not come to see the last of my brother Alok who was shot dead by unknown people way back.. for he loved him just too much.. I can only make some estimate of your loss.. of your utter distress

I hope I have been able to alleviate some o the huge pain that the death of Patrick has posed.. How very strange that he did not live a couple of more days to celebrate his birthday.. I am sure he will always be remembered for his short existence amongst the whole family and finds peace in the world where he departs after his death..
Death of someone close is always cruel.. the death of one’s grown up son is more than cruel.. and the death of a talented intelligent individual a loss not to the family and friends but to humanity as well..

After reading this I phoned him and fixed up a time to meet and have coffee+snacks+… as we are living close by and know each other for so long but time did not permit to meet. It is we who have to find time, one of us have to take initiative ….once in a while, and there will be time, just like the way you find time everyday for us, ‘EF’. Grateful to you for this. I hope you enjoy it and you send this to your friends surely they would like to meet you or you would like to meet them for , if not too long, but for few moments to have coffee-I Know you do not have coffee, for a pomegranate juice may be while the friend drinks coffee? )

Great pictures. The Sunday crowds gathering outside your house is pretty special. You’ve achieved a helluva lot in the time you’ve had..a feat others can only dream of achieving. I’m sure no other celebrity in India experiences this sort of a display of love from their fans…quite amazing that it has been going on for so long…am sure it will continue to for years to come.

For some reason i believe I heard this in one of your interviews and ever since then i alwasy questioned myself, am I being myself? Am i still grounded? After getting a successfull education and getting a big position have i became arrogant and rude? However, i always look up to your example, where you have achieved so much and still grounded, in your comparision I have not even achieved fraction. Really inspiring, larger than life role model, we all do you also have some. However I am glad i have role model in you who is also a better person and a great human being.

Dear Amitabh Bachchan,
I was walking the trail yesterday in the mountains at elevation 5200′..
It does feel like being above the earth…! : ) Almost on another planet…
The view of high tops covered with snow, touching bright white clouds.. Steep slopes drop almost vertically endlessly down on one side of the path.. They are covered with immense variety of wild flowers.. Of all colors, among the juicy bright green of grasses and Noble Fir trees.. Red, blue, yellow, purple, lavender, pink, dark rink, white, orange… Everything was beaming with life and light.. So much light ! And incredible silence ! Only the insects - crickets, bees and rarely birds make a sound.. And my own footsteps…
Chipmunk crossed the path.. Sat trustingly on the other side and found and ate something right in front of me. I took a picture of that…
A new discovery I’ve maid about the advantage of digital camera : ) - it works with any light ! Or no light ! And gives wonderful results, except for the quality of the lens… It was fun to take pictures with it, especially of animals - they move so fast…

Gisele Barbosa is the most saintly person I have met and yes I have not met Mother Teresa to compare, Gisele my dear, My Heart cries in support of your crying.. and I pray the soul of Patrick rests in Peace..) I also pray to God that the three brothers Steve, Frederick and Kevin and their parents are provided the strength to bear this unfortunate end of the journey of Patrick..
Post Script: I do not know if it is right or wrong to air my condolence messages like this over here.. yet I know that Gisele Barbosa my American author friend is a much much bigger admirer of Amitabh Bachchan than atleast me! The author of ‘The Power of Fate’ has seen the most unkind fate yesterday morning when she discovers that Patrick her third son was found dead in his bed! Gisele Barbosa has her website at http://www.giselebarbosa.net but it may not be working in India! ( I don’t know if it does! On some browsers other than IE)
