DAY 359

Ok .. first things first..

The BigB Yahoo Group PPT, my server tells me, is a huge hit. In fact their request to me is that there should be more of that. So if there are some interested and enterprising young PPT manufacturing EF’s… bring it all on… I shall post it on blog.

And secondly.. the BigB Yahoo Group presentation was ideated and conceived and executed by Group loyalist, Amit Sangani from Texas.. so if you must congratulate someone for it it must and should be Amit S.

Thank you Amit.. and sorry for not acknowledging your effort earlier. Not to take anything away of course, from little ‘hidden behind white square sheet faced Fatima’ who was the instigator in getting me to have it put up…

But really.. the enthusiasm and the numbers that you see in the comments section are quite quite amazing. The delight and the excitement of completing a year has been phenomenal. May our years ever abound endlessly and may we celebrate each year with enhanced gusto..

The shoot at Whistling Woods in Film City was quite unique - I never spoke a word throughout the day. Which, most near me would consider not a most unusual act. Sitting in an auditorium watching an award ceremony, sitting in my car watching a procession, sitting in my car driving home…

That seems to have been the highlight of the day..

And then ending up with Arnab Goswami of Times Now in front of a camera for a programme that they wish to do called ‘Total Recall’. A programme which they conduct to keep in touch with days gone by. The films, the moments, the actors and their attitudes, our own desires and assessments of the films we saw and worked in. That sort of stuff.

What was slated to be 20 mins, ended up being 2 hrs and an entire profile of my work in Mumbai as an actor was documented for posterity - we hope. In today’s times of uncertainty, one never knows. So a long journey was undertaken. From Abbas Saheb and ‘SAAT HINDUSTANI’ to ‘INDIA 24/7′ or whatever it shall end up being called. I felt it was rushed, but I guess the channel would have had time constraints. Arnab was keen to know more about INDIA 24/7. Most media is generally like that. When someone is documenting them, they get inquisitive. But not all. Arnab I do not think felt that, for, he and I discussed electronic media long after the interview was over. Its compulsions, its penetrative qualities, the effect repetition has on the minds of the masses, the drastic changes that it is generating in our social syatem, and so on. Interesting.

He filled me up with the period of TV during 26/11 and the major task they undertook to keep the flavor alive. Resulting now in, of course added eye balls and TRP’s, but a substantial positioning of their Times Now channel. Of him becoming a celebrity after that and the effect that an occurrence of this nature does to the profession of television. I told him we needed more time to discuss all this. It is a vast and pertinent topic and should be given the space - a large amount of space - it richly deserves for debate.

The IPL started and I watched the two opening games. The interest it generates is infectious. The beauty of the game now being that we have a result within three hours. Which if I might say so, is not too bad, compared to other fast moving sporting events. But what I did observe and liked was the passion with which the teams took to the game and to each other, despite being from different countries and having  to mingle and enjoy teammates which not too long ago they were bitterly opposed to.

So.. a great integrator, this IPL.

And right now, within the media there is just the elections and this cricket 20/20 or T20 as it is popularly called. Nothing gets in even edgeways. Poles apart in thought and deed, yet becoming an integral part of our thinking or should one say entertainment, as Arnab himself describes it. Its an onerous task to evaluate and consider what he talks about. But I feel we should leave, and so we do..

Good night.. shabba khair… shubh ratri… sat sri Akaal..

My love

Amitabh Bachchan

  19. G.A.Patel says:

I have never been to any studios so don’t know what this Whistling Woods in Film City is all about. Do they have buildings, homes. Must be like MGM and Universal Studios in Florida, I suppose. We went there a few years ago. I enjoyed the places more than the children did!!!!!
The slide was great and it was nice to see so many lucky fans who have met you. May be one day we will be so lucky. Please let us know, when you are next in London, we will definitely come to see you!!!
We had to attend a wedding at metropolitan Hilton at Edware road. And tomorrow I’ll be meeting whole of my family,my three brothers,Bhabhi’s ,nephews, nieces, as it is little Kyiana’s first birthday. My daughter is here as well. Will have a great party at a restaurant.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we had a website from where we could get all the books you mention? Please, Please if you could do something about it Sir. I order cookery books from Tarla Dalal’s website and I get them in a few days. I wish we could order all the valuable books you have mentioned from a reliable website. I would very much appreciate it being mentioned.
Hope you all have a lovely week-end. Pranams to everyone.

  20. Jasmine , London says:

    Dearest Mr Bachchan,

A documentary of your professional life… interesting! It cannot be the first of its kind though? Ridiculous of them to hope to document your career in just twenty minutes .. even two hours would be insufficient given the sheer magnitude of your achievements!
I will have to look up this Arnab Goswami later - forgive my ignorance - I haven’t heard of him - but it sounds as though he’s a media man who’s company you didn’t mind sharing ….so that’s a good start!!

A relief about the elections if indeed the media are otherwise engaged they are not busy resurrecting old stories to haunt you with, or even making new ones up about you! Enjoy the solace while it lasts!

I had the chance to look over the PP presentation yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nice to put faces to names for some EF and to see you in so many different places over the years! Particularly upset about not knowing you had attended a book signing at Selfridges just a couple of years ago! It’s very close to me and to know that I missed seeing you was just heartbreaking!

Admittedly as I said yesterday although I’ve grown up knowing who you are; I haven’t been a avid fan of your “films” all my life - I’ve only become a fan of the person in time and through this blog. Something about the purity of your heart and the thoughts you express compel me to seek solace here with you!

OK “enough” with the emotion, you had me in tears yesterday all of an emotional wreck, mascara all over my cheeks oh what a mess…! Poor Sudhir was worried and sent me a message asking me not to cry (!)… but they were tears of joy at sharing your company and tears of pride for the person you are!
I’m certainly looking forward to celebrating each year with increased Gusto… well said!

    Goodnight, sweet dreams..
    Love you …
    Jasmine xx
PS. A little reserved in the tone of your post today I notice.. just busy or is something else wrong??

  21. Jankar says:

    Hello Uncle,

I saw the presentation yesterday and two things stroked. One is that very nice of you to spend some time with your fans and second how lucky are they who got to meet and chat with you for a while.
Some day, some day I hope I will be one of those lucky ones too. Keeping my fingers crossed.

My husband is traveling so I thought to make one painting on Ahmedabad Pol. I grew up in one so thought to make an artistic visual on it. I remember long ago Abhishek traveled to Ahmedabad pol with some director/friend I believe and he compared it with Venice.
Venice has been boasted for its charm. I want to highlight Ahmdabad’s pols’ beauty through visuals.

Good night. Take care of your health.
    Kind regards.

  22. Shameera says:

    Well done Amit!

    LOLS @ Fats.. hehe..!!

It’s great the ppt is a hit, but I think I’ll be keeping my ppt’s to myself after the last time.

  23. Naresh - London says:

    Good Evening Sir,

Once again congratulations on the first year of the blog. Is there any way we can attach photos etc to improve the communication and so you can see how your EF look like (in my case you may not want to look!)

It has been several weeks since you have replied, just a few lines will suffice.

    Regards

    Naresh

  24. sanjaih bokaria says:

    Dear Amitabh,

It’s been enlightening and very thought provoking to get to know, your understanding of the joys and qualities of the realization that god is truly residing in you in the best form he’d ever wanted to.
That you are so simplistic and humble is a trait that obviously has to do with your genes which again i believe and am convinced are brought from such souls that were born to enlighten themselves through whatever medium was available to express……
You are the truest son a parent can get….no.. no… not because you are amitabh bachchan the actor who can turn the country around….
But because in your heart resides the god that is your own parent and you do not have any problem nor a hassle of ego in admitting the identity of your soul to the purpose of their being…
That’s why dear amitabh, you are given this love from the bottom of my heart and soul that as long as there is acceptance of love in its infinite form, you shall like many others from this universe who can influence many a souls at one time through the thought of their deed, continue to shine forth, be happy, be blessed, be in harmony, be at peace, be in total and absolute love forever, that whoever comes in contact with you feels blessed because of the very nature of your being….
    always with you
gods of this universe and the angels and the messengers of love and the likes of me… who can only wish us all well :)
    love forever
    jus..b!

  25. sanjay patel says:

    Hi Amitabhji,
I had a day dream about you and your loved one. I imagined you in the rocking chair, relaxing, collecting thought about past of loved one. Background music song is : ” Today I am gonna see the boy I am going to marry” “Today I am going to see the boy I am going to marry” “Today……” !!! I love you and I am ready to take responsibilities. Throw some on me!!!! It is my dream come true.!!!! I love you!! I love her!!!! I love you!!!
    Sincerely yours,
    Sanjay Patel.

    Dear Mr. AB,

Back to work after yesterday’s exuberance, to a new year of film shoots and interviews. The movies will make it here eventually, some even released on the same day as in India. But I would really like to see the two-hour interview, does anyone in the EF know how that is possible in this diaspora many of us live in?

Thank you for raising the possibility of more slides, there will be an eager audience.

You have not mentioned your health in a while, I hope that’s a good sign…

    Love,

    Amitji,

Im so glad you enjoy the PPT from BigB Yahoogroup, it was a small tribute from us to say thanks and to share pictures from some of our meeting over the past 10yrs, Im sure there wiil be many such ideas that us fans would like to share with you on the blog and would be happy to have it displayed for other fans to view.

Look forward to seeing the programme you mentioned ‘Total Recall’, I feel it would have been merely impossibly to make a documentary on you, explaining your journey within 20 minutes, I do not feel it would do justice to you…

    All the best always

    Hello,
Yeah, seems like only T20 and the elections are the only topics being discussed in the media!
‘Total recall’ sure seems like an interesting program.
And yes Amit, wonderful job on the ppt! :)
Your post yesterday was really touching I must say! It seemed like it was stranght from your own heart and to your EF’s hearts. It DEFINITELY reached your EF’s hearts! :D

    Have a pleasant Sunday!
    Take care,

    Hello Dearest Mr. Bachchan,

Sure, the presentation of the yahoo group is a marvelous and brilliant one. And actually Amit has done a great job with it. I wish I had taken part in it…but unfortunately I haven’t the material or photos to share them.
Me too would like to thank both Fatima and Amit for it…and of course to thank you for putting it on the blog.

It is so nice welcoming more ppt to be put on the blog…even it is a brilliant idea. So will expect more of it to come then.

It sounds interesting this documentary about you and that covering your life. They might be in need to make this documentary in a number of episodes, because even If they make it in 2hrs it won’t be sufficient to cover it all.

I have just checked what IPL could be…and found out it is a cricket competition. It seems a lot of excitement is in the air :)

Great…so i wish you in advance to have an enjoyable time

    Have a peaceful night…and a nice sleep
    Goodnight,

    With love,

Hi! I will be looking forward to Arnab’s document on you .We are all -inquisitive by nature but media perceives the way they want to project. It was good to know you have the other side of the story. (Media’s point of view)
I have one complain about the comment box, previously our comment was visible as soon as we would post it but now you have to waiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit to see it. (If you are lucky)
It is frustrating when your comment is swallowed. I know it is not a big deal because I really do not know if you will ever read it.

    Dear Amitji,
It truly was a great presentation from BigB yahoo group- particualrly as you mentioned, Amit Sangani- who put a great effort in doing the whole presentation. Congrats to all who were involved in making the PPT. I loved all the pics and the narration by different EF’s experience with you- some had a lot more meetings with you. We all are extremely happy to have had chance to meet you in person. We are indebted by that “great” meeting experience.

May our years ever abound endlessly and may we celebrate each year with enhanced gusto..

What a wonderful wish to end the lovely evening with.. i do join you my precious in such a beutiful wish.. thank you so much for such sweet words..

Dear Fatima and dear Amit had done a really wonderful job… and although i don’t have any idea about the coputer stuff.. but i think our dear Raman Jetly can do a great job as well .. i’m so happy that the presentation of yahoo group becomes a huge hit.. i wish i had something to contribute with… but.. anyway.. i really had enjoyed watching it.. it is a wonderful presentation.. and every dear’s experience had touched me deeply to the core..

So you had shooted today at the film city.. whistelling woods.. Madha island scenes are over..? and you hadn’t speak a word..? you know.. i’ve been thinking of how would be wonderful to have a onversation with you my love.. and the idea which was capturing my mind was how would you say my name… how would you call me..? silly.. childish.. ? i know that but this idea was the most beautiful thing i was thinking about all day..

Yesterday.. after i had posted my comment.. i should go directly to bed as i should be up at 3:00 a.m. to join few fellow guides to a training trip to few cities in middle Egypt.. the archaelogical and historical sites dated back to the year 2100 B.C. .. temple ruins, very beautifully decorated tombs.. but i couldn’t sleep.. i was saving to my laptop’s desktop some of your photos displayed in the gallery of BigB Face Book group.. where dear Kishore Bhatt is doing a very great job.. with few fellow friends in uploading your beautiful photos.. so i didn’t sleep since yesterday 7:00 a.m till now…

It was a very tough journey by the company’s bus.. 3 japanese ladies who are working in the office in creating new programs to include the site in them.. and 6 of male junior guides .. and yours my precious.. those sites should be visited in 2 days.. but as everyone is busy.. we have to see them all in one day.. we were driving more than 7 houres before we reached the first site.. you know my dearest.. that most of the ancient egyptian monuments are carved in the mountains… it was really hard to climb huge stairs.. get inside narrow corridors.. check the relieves.. demonstrate to the juniors.. at 5:00 p.m the time of closing.. i was so near to death.. then the bus had sunk in the desert.. :( helping the guys in pushing it.. clean the sand around the tyres.. they asked me to take rest and they will do the whole thing.. but i just can’t stay away and watch.. it is not girl’s work…? i know that my behavior resembles boys.. but i just can’t change it.. too late i think.. a severe pain in the back.. and the chest as i had absorbed half of the desert’s sand.. as there was a sandy storm.. i’m just back.. before i take a shower ( i had poured on myself a full perfume bottle before i log on.. don’t worry my precious :) ) before i eat.. before i do anything.. i logged on to read your precious post .. it is my priority.. and here i am.. writtin a boring, lengthy comment.. and share wiith you my precious my daily events.. !

Good night.. shabba khair… shubh ratri… sat sri Akaal..

I wish you have a restful night.. peaceful sleep and sweet dreams.. mery jaan.

Forever.. love.. care .. affection and respect

    Hello sir,

You’d be happy to know Chelsea won today’s in the FA Cup semi finals against Arsenal - much to my disappointment! The score was 2-1, Malouda the first and the Drogba with the second in the closing minutes of the game.

They will play the winner of tomorrow’s game, which is Man Utd Vs Everton!

Sleep and waking, mind and world, this is it. Joy.

    Dear Mr. Bachchan

Talking about journalists and journalism, watched the movie “State of Play” starring Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck. Very well done, focusing on ethics in journalism…it is amazing how some actors are able to bring out the character and push their real “self” into the background. I think the difference comes when the story is written first and then the cast is selected instead of picking up the actor and then writing a story for the actor. The characterization of the main role was really good, a well made movie. Maybe you should watch this before you sit down to hold your discussions with the said reporter. Take care

    Amithji Hiya,

You sound rather subdued today, something you not telling us ???? Or just relaxed and step back from your usual rushed hustle & bustle ??

A rather different day, full of sheer silence, no talking all day, most would state the obvious, I have heard that before, you do like to do nothing at times but sit in a sort of mediation in another world, in your world… Good nothing wrong with that at all… days like that are far stretched so enjoy and hope you made the most of it…

Anyway a very good morning to you, just maybe today will be more of a talkative horizon who knows what life throws….

Want to say congrats to Abhi and Ash for thier approaching 2nd wedding anniversary, please convey message, may they always be happy and content.

Took the children to a day out yesterday to Madame Tussuad’s, as thought it ‘ll make a good ending to their Easter break, as back to school on Monday . However the highlight for me going was obviously to see you again, but to my shock, you had gone for a little walk to Berlin ???, at first I’d thought iyou had gone for the change of outfits or make up touch up, as Ash had recently changed her outfit.

But then a good assistant informs me that for 2/3 months as Mr SRK had just returned back to London, Berlin have borrowed you now. OMG even whilst stationary you can not sit still, moving around globe trotting in mannequin format for that matter. Even your wax model has a life sight seeing…. just could not believe what I was hearing… so I think next time I will have to ring to make an appointment with you in wax form to ensure that you are present and available for some close up shoots…… lol….

No jokes aside did find it rather odd…

But my boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves with all thier super heroes to Beckham, L.Hamilton, Jacko and the list is endless….

How could you forget to even mention today that Chelsea scored 2/1 against Arsenal…
YES THEY WON AGAIN AND NO MENTION HOW COME??????

A SUDDEN MEMORY LASPE OR WAS IPL FAR TOO IMPORTANT THAT YOU FORGOT US LONDONERS & BLUES….

    Dear Amitji,

Thank you for your nice post tonight. Enjoyed immensely, the presentation of The BigB Yahoo Group PPT. Its amazing to think its been running for 10 years, everyone looked so happy to have you in their midst, lucky fans and lovely photographs. How about a challenge for your blog to match this length of time and beyond? Could be something wonderful.

Wish it was possible to view the documentary ‘Total Recall’ anything shown on you is always so captivating and interesting though 2 hours must still be insufficient time to capture your lifetime’s work of 40 years, perhaps it might be followed by a sequel!

Have a restful weekend if you are not shooting and may this 2nd year of your blog be just as thrilling and awe- inspiring at the 1st year! God bless you always for giving us this special gift.

    Hi Amitji:

Have been busy but have not missed a single day of your blog. Sounds lame on my part to say busy, my scheduled is no way as punishing as yours! yet you are disciplined enough to pen your thoughts to your hungry waiting EF. But I have been supporting an application go-live at our organization so have not been able to join the others in saying - you are our beloved head of the EF!

Just great blogs from you, as usual. Fantabulous pictures, love the one in the white shirt, that’s how I picture you whenever I read your thoughts, the smile that starts in the eyes and reaches every inch of your face - just pure joy to see your picture. Congrats for so many things but especially for the 1 year of creating this family of ours - I sincerely feel like I belong.

Chicago has been wonderful weatherwise, we see 4 climates in one day (wind being the common denominator for all).

Love you very much sirji, cannot explain the depth of my respect and love for you. Your humbleness makes me always stop in my tracks and correct myself whenever I feel like I am behaving like an ass towards others.

  79. Ameya says:

    Another wonderful post, Mr Bachchan!

In an industry plagued with favoritism it is indeed heartening to witness a gem who epitomizes the acting faculty. A faculty whose operation and psychology never sieze to fascinate the mere mortals like me. Unfortunately, there is limited scientific understanding of this noble profession. More specifically, questions such as “are brains of subjects involved in this profession wired differently” largely remain unanswered. Evidence from behavioral studies of actors have indicated that they tend to have a distinct theory of mind allowing them to seamlessly switch between “self” and the “role”. As a neuroscientist, I am actively interested in understanding the neural bases of this distinct capability possesed by your profession. The initial results of our study based on brain imaging data acquired from hollywood actors suggests that the actor brain is differently wired compared to non-actors. The next logical question is whether this differential wiring genetic (inherited) or is shaped by the environment (learned). Would love to hear your opinion on this matter.

Hope to one day peek at the brain that underlies your multifaceted talents and virtuosity.

    Love & respect,
    Ameya

  86. RAVI P MALHOTRA says:

Dear Amitji, Good Morning. Life has no scope for total recall. We can only talk about moments we cherish out of our lived lives. There is no chance to get back in to those moments. 26/11 as you recalled with Arnab Goswami made many people celebrities out of their ordinary lives. The biggest of them is Ajmal Kasab. The lone surviving terrorist. I must say people have become indifferent to him also by now looking at the way the trial is going on.
Talking of eyeballs and TRPs I must confess that I haven’t seen TV after the Parliament Debate on 26/11 on 11th Dec for a few minutes. Arnab can subtract 2eyeballs out of the total stastics of eyeball maths of TV.
Media played a good role in 26/11 I must say in bringing news to our homes. It was a huge experiment and the trial by media of everyone concerned. There were instantanious actions and reactions, rewards and punishments. The bullets of 26/11 still hit us sometimes when we pass those lanes of Mumbai. It was a wounded heartland. Bleeding with blood and lives. There are permanent scars and ruined families. There are many who are still struggling to stand on their two feet. Yes media did succeed and there is cost to that. Cost that noone really assesed afterwards. We have tremendous absorbing power as a resilient Nation.
Looking back is a stage of life where something is slowing down. One wants to regurgigate the old happenings. It is a state of mind which comes to when becoming old. Is the media also in that flux of mind. Total Recall is an excercise in posterity is rightly observed by you. I may sound bad mouthed but it is equivalent to printing your own photo for the ‘O…….’
Well one always has a foresight and media wants to store things for the future when it knows life has its limits. Sorry to say so. I always tell my wife every one or two years we must have an updated portray picture done up. Otherwise when the family members don’t get one they post an old young looking picture for the old person. The readers think a young life is lost till they read the bottom details.
I am happy that 24×7 India has a media which is electronic and print both and well developed. All the hosts from one channel now head many different channels. Young journalists running up to report for us. News is faster than before. But remember it is still a thing of past but running reportage in our present. The repeat needs to be curtailed for not affecting people. More research is needed to make news news worthy.
Have a nice day and new second year of blog!!!

The Lion slips off the hill-top and falls in the way of a stampede.

Good Morning. I am okay. Just held back seeing the torrent of messages raining in the blog space yesterday. The EF is what it is and rightly as AB has named it because we read each others comments and write back.

Some highlights of the last one year (of course related with this blog only, but not in any specific order):

    1. Mr Bachchan writes a lengthy write up in the memory of his mother. Some bloggers had observed that he writes a lot about his father but not mother. He responds by this write up.

    2. This blog was flooded with comments (more than 1500) when a misunderstanding with a political person with AB took place.

    3. Again there was a stream of comments and prayers everyday when AB was hospitalised due to intestinal problem.

    4. Mr Bachchan responded to the comments of some bloggers by saying that they can leave the blog whenever they wanted. (Some bloggers had threatened to leave the blog because AB doesn’t reply to them). Some bloggers felt hurt and one blogger, Mithai Lal, wrote an emotional letter saying that “a father never asks his beloved son to get out of his house, even if he has dispute with his father”.

    5. One of the bloggers, named Abhishek, finds a place in AB’s text of the blog for forwarding Hindi font to him.

    6. One close friend of Mr Bachchan sends an E-mail on Mr Macaulay (sorry if my spelling is wrong)which he puts on his blog. Later on he was told that the information was wrong. He apologises.

    7. One crazy fan of AB writes on the blog that he was not treated well during “Unforgettable tour”, when he wanted to meet him with his family. Mr Bachchan replies by saying that he was unaware of it as these meetings are promised by organizers without his knowledge.

9.A lady writes an emotional letter about the incident where she went to meet Mr.Abhishek Bachchan on shooting point. She was hurt as Abhishek did not even give any smile to her and her children, who were ardent fans of Abhishek. Mr Amitabh Bachchan explains the mood of an actor at the time of shooting and assures the lady to “reprimand” Abhishek. He apologises too for this incident

    10. A number of times AB was hurt by the wrong reporting of print media. He has written a number of letters criticizing journalists along with the clippings of the news. Very recently he was misquoted about his remarks on Slumdog Millionair. The injury is still fresh and will take time to heal.

Dear friends, these were some of the highlights which I remember. I personally feel that the regularity of Mr Bachchan on this blog is amazing. How a person of his profession, that too of his stature, finds some time to write the blog. This is simply amazing. Many of his habits are unbelievable. How a person who sleeps for 3-4 hours in the night gets energy to work. There are various aspects of AB’s life which are difficult to believe. Anyway, he must be special, that’s why he has risen so much. My regards to you Sir, on this very special occasion. Good night and see you again.

Some of today’s post is indeed quite foreign to me. In fact, right after I typed that I looked up IPL and found out what it is. And cricket itself definitely remains foreign to me.

So I guess the name for your current project is still in the air and not definitely Rann? I would think two hours devoted to your 40 years of film history would seem quite rushed. Still I would love to see it.

AS you can see, I’m late here because my laptop ran out of juice before you blogged due to rushing out this morning after over sleeping. No time to charge it. I’m still learning new terms in the computer world such as PPT. I’m an old luddite EF so I won’t be manufacturing anything.

I went straight from work to a must-see punk show of the band MDC. This stands for ‘Millions of Dead Cops” but they have also been known as ‘Multi Death Corporation’, ‘Millions of Damn Christians’, ‘Metal Devil Cokes’ and ‘Millions of Dead Children’. They have songs such as ‘John Wayne was a Nazi’ and ‘Corporate Death Burger’. The lead singer is a gay vegan Jew so you can imagine the liberal leanings of their lyrics. And obviously they have a good sense of humor. They’ve been around since 1980.

Here’s to endless years of blogging for you and I forgot to give you an anniversary hug yesterday.

    Love,
    Rochelle

    Hello Amitabhji,
Congratulations on your one yearBlog Anniversary. It is very encouraging for us to see how determined you are. During this week there has been a new sensation on Youtube, Susan Boyle. I hope you had a chance to hear her sing, I am sure as Amanda said and I am sure the rest of us felt, even you would have felt privileged listening to her. I was wondering, is it only the talent that has caused the speculation (which i have no doubt) but also the hope among the world, that no how difficult the path ahead is, if you have talent, no one can stop you? what is your say on this?

  111. Shailesh Mehta says:

    Dear Amitji,
Read D359 and towards the later part of your blog you have made a mention of the IPL and the 2 matches that you had watched on TV. Amitji, were you not informed by your team of assistants of a much, much bigger and a happier event? That of our Hockey Team winning the Aslan Cup after(if I am not mistaken) 18 long years. An appreciation or a mention in your Blog from a celebrity such as you are, I am sure would have been a source of good encouragement. But sadly though, India seems to be forgetting Hockey and the World No.1 ranking that we maintained for a number of years past, seems to have been forgotten. Believe me it was no mean an achievement.
May be you are not into Hockey as much as you are into Cricket, so please understand I am not blaming you or finding fault. I am only mentioning this because it is well known that India once ruled Hockey being No.1 in this game, and these young boys of the present team, as much as Dhoni’s Eleven, have been making landmark achievements. Let us all join together and praise their achievements equally if not more. Personally I too am more into Cricket than Hockey, but at the same time knowing my Hockey enough not to miss recognizing our Hockey Teams achievements.

    For AB,

While on documentaries, I recall Ms. Simi Garewal had made a brilliant one on Shri Raj Kapoor. It was called the “The Greatest Showman” and shown on the National Channel. She had captured the essence of his vision, his style and aura. Her own knowledge of the mechanisms that work in the film industry’s creative world were a big asset. She is also a wonderful narrator.

I hope the people who work on your memoirs do justice to the individual while putting the facts together.

I dont know what got into me when i decided to do a degree in mathematics. I share this love and hate relationship wid math which is hard to explain. Sometimes it gives me solace by taking me into its own world and other times it seems like door shut tight which is hard to open and cross. Dont know what my future holds for me. Thought for the day

    Om Shanti

To be seated on the seat of self-respect is to use virtues in life.
It usually seems very difficult to use the virtues within us when the people around are not doing so.
At such times using negativity seems much easier. In spite of not having that particular weakness predominantly, say of anger, when there is provocation from the outside we tend to react with that weakness.
In order to free ourselves from weaknesses and work with the virtues within us we need to make sure we are seated on the seat of self-respect. For this we need to recognise and appreciate some speciality within us. When we are in the awareness of this speciality of ours, we will be able to stabilize ourselves in the state of our self-respect

A good method to remain happy and make others happy is to be flexible and adjust yourself to different people’s personalities and opinions.

    Om Shanti

THANK YOU very much for allowing us to be the VILLIANS and you inspite of the thrashing allowed us to remain just as we are and let us go without punishment
THANK YOU very much for allowing us to be the ACTORS and you accepting us as we are inspite of performing so badly
THANK YOU very much for allowing us to be the SPORTSPERSONS and you accepted us even though we did not score a goal or a run
THANK YOU very much for allowing us to SERVE you and you never complained even though we did not put the right amount of sugar in your tea or the salt in your food.
THANK YOU very much for allowing us to take CARE of your HEALTH, and you never complained even though you just had 3 hours sleep.
THANK YOU very much for allowing us to show our RESPECT & DIGNITY which was many a times abusive, destructive & cheap and you replied SINCERELY and POLITELY….
THANK YOU very much for allowing us to PRAY in our own language and religion and many a time you ignored our selfish desires, when we prayed for others fall and cursing others…..

THANK YOU very much for TEACHING us….GOD IS ONE, GOD IS PRESENT in EVERY human being and for nurturing in us the meaning of RESPECT, LOVE, AFFECTION, CONCERN, UNDERSTANDING, KINDNESS, GRACIOUS and you LEAD the way by your example.

    Dear Mr Bachchan

In all the birthday excitement yesterday forgot to tell you how much I loved the latest photos. And had a wonderful time reading all the rest of the birthday wishes and the delightful Yahoo group presentation. (Curently putting together a PowerPoint of my cats… what do you mean, that wasn’t quite what Big Adda had in mind??? :)

Would be extremely fascinated to see Total Recall, but alas I’m sure we won’t see get the documentary in the UK. Such a deprived nation we are.

But my friend Bindu who came with me to the Unforgettable Concert in London is so excited because her mother just saw the show on Zee TV and spotted her daughter in the crowed!

    With love from Daisy

    Dear Mr. Bachchan…Namaskar!!

I thank the lord to give me birth in the same era of yours and thank my mother to give me birth on the same land where a legend like you exists.
To me, you are not ony an actor, but a man of struggle, determination and grace.

I remember the day when i was a child and I read a newspaper cutting “Amitabh almost dead”, the incidence took place when u were badly injured while shooting for Coolie.. I fell down and fainted after reading that news….then my mom gave me a flase news that you were alright and it was just a rumour…I came to know it later that it was not a rumour but a fact…but with God’s grace, u were alright by then….!!
I feel honored to be one of those billions and trillions….of your fans….!!

I feel sad for your dear ones whom you lost (your parents)… I am sure the replacement is impossible…I wish you grand babies soon…who will remind you with their smiles…that your dear ones have just changed their bodies….and they wud be around u…then and ever…!!!

My Heartiest Congratulations to Abhishek & Aishwarya on completing 2nd year of their life.
May God bless them with love, luck, peace, prosperity, health and happiness.

Warm Regards to you and Jaya Ji..!!!

  151. Deepak Murthy says:

    Hi Amitabh,

Just received your letter acknowledging the greetings and wishes for the new year 2009. It could help the postal service if Express mail (speed post) via airmail could take lesser than 3 months to reach Pittsburgh (USA) from Mumbai (India). Happy new year to you as well and incidentally, several things have happened in the last few months in the USA that Gov Arnold Schwarzaneggar has approved including cleaning up the US from the Sun (1 nuclear bomb) equivalent to an earthquake which was initiated in california the effects were seen in Pennsylvania as well and several casualties will be reported as “aging”. Few will be spared (even in Asia and that includes India).

I’ll be following up with Shah Rukh Khan on http://www.twitter.com (id: deepakmurthy) in case Aishwarya Bachchan is interested, she could open an account there as well (Peter Wiggin’s Locke Forum: he lived for 90 yrs & when he had a failing heart, Ender Wiggin wrote about him from “space.org” in ‘Speaker for the Dead’. My theory is that Age (level 1: 1-100, level 2: 101-200, level 3: 201-300). Bean (yaniki mein bhi) acquired a lot of information because of the unlocking of Anton’s gene and he lived for an indefinite number of years searching for Petra Wiggin who passed a death verdict on Jamie Lynn Spears seconded by Gov Schwarzaneggar.

Earth is being monitored by the Sun and Nature above all. Theory, God=Nature. Age reversal due to Star Trek Insurrection is in progress all over earth. Effects: plenty much in Asia (25% of population) will survive over the next 2 decades and America has only 5% of the world’s population) which is why I’m encouraging Shah Rukh Khan & Hrithik Roshan to focus on GRE (word lists (A-Z) about 1200 words, antonyms (opposites), synonyms (similar sounding words) and quantitative (mathematical: supposedly easy for Indians) and analytical (very tough) and the GMAT (goal is 800/800 which is 99 percentile, my GRE was 2080/2400 and GMAT (1998) was 730/800 and that was 99 percentile (top 1% among all the people who took it in the world.

More via snail mail (postal mail) in case this message (note) does not get through your screening system. Say hi to Jaya Bachchan and not to Abishek Bachchan.

    Regards,
    Deepak

  152. Ibrar Hussain says:

    Dearest Amitji…

May the Creator of all creation shower you with all the blessings from the seven heavens and above and may He always keep you and your family safe from all evil. Ameen.

Firstly, A happy happy happy 1st year for You and us. May the Almighty give us thousands more, with you as our patriarch.

Sorry for not replying earlier. I did, but for some reason bigadda or some other hidden force zap up my comments (on a regular basis now) but never mind, perservere i shall.

Familiarity has increased, though I get scared for what i have kept sacred may lose its illuminating self. Im talking about this relationship. For years and years and years its been kept private, on purpose. As i very selfishly safeguard what I hold most dear. And that is my love for you. Whispers entering my sphere tell me that daily interaction fades the uniqueness and turns it into ordinary, abeit a special type of ordinariness. Thats when the heart pumps into action. Whispers sourcing from this organ tell me to write, write and more write. Life’s too short, tell the one you love that you are in love. Alas, withhold I can not. Wether what I hold most high loses its elevation or not is not the question that ought to be getting whispered. As what is in my heart has been permanently stored and has become part of me. And true love can never have its beauty diminished. Let the love come out in the open I say (well part of me says). Its a difficult dilemma to be in. So I shall rest my case in the hope that you Amitji…know that I love you. Not that my love for you needs any acknowledgement in order to confirm its existence. Its a whole different level. Once reached, freedom achieved. Its a beautiful world, my world.

Welcome to our second year of electronic interaction…

    Love and immense love

    Ibrar Hussain UK

Nothing to say, really, I agree. It’s IPL, election coverage or an escape into old movies - the last beats ‘em all hollow.
“IPL, an integrator???” Nah….The greed of moolah is the integrator as usual. And also, the fear factor. For when you cut out Dawood…expect a midnight call, guys.
Oh yes, Raj Goswami, that was a cool essay on classic literature but in the Hindi Film Industry of today, anything classic goes for a full toss.
Javed Akhtar recounts how a producer rejected one of his early solo scripts, scratching all his body parts from the top of his head down, perplexed and bored, until the end of the enthusiastic narration. “I have never seen a picture like this before ..” he concluded with finality. “I never repeated that error,” laughed Javedsaab.

Couldn’t finish seeing the whole lot of pics slide show posted on the site . ..reached upto 58…today I would be able to resume seeing those…still at work. But whatever I saw liked , especially the one that shows Jayaji and Abhishek with you and some fans, sitting by the huge window (actually you are hidden behind everyone, Abhishek being at the front, but still one can easily make you out behind them).

And I still have to read your new post…am always behind. Just opened to check and give a sneak peek at the post and quickly post these few lines…not improper to do so i guess since I’ll be going for my coffee break now.

Rest well, sleep well, keep healthy.

  157. Jasmine , London says:

    Good Morning Mr. Bachchan,

I see some EF are still clearly recovering from the rapture and general jollity from the evening before last…. we are a little sparse on comments today!

Lovely day here in London unusually sunny so I will be out making the most of it soon.

As promised though I looked up Arnab Goswani of TOI (because I didn’t know who he is) and disappointingly was not able to find too much information … in fact Wikipedia were none too complimentary in their description of him as a journalist, to quote them:

“He is considered by many as a poor journalist due his questioning styles, stating the obvious and over emphasizing trivialities.”

Is’nt that just standard practise for all journalists?
Anyway, in my opinion as long as the documentary he makes on you does your career justice – I will be satisfied! I was just curious and keen to keep up with hot topics on the blog …. But notice NEVER keen enough to want to discuss Cricket, Football or any other ball for that matter!…

Hope you are having a nice day. Was it back to Raan today, or do you have a day off?

    Back later…
    Love you
    Jasmine

Hi Lena, Happy Easter to you and any other Orthodox Christian EF for today!

    For AB and Jasmine,

    Thank you, Jasmine.

There is one thing I can say about media in India,

You don’t have to search for a scribe on the Wikipedia. All are the same generally. They do not contribute in anyway to the GDP - mere baggage that is carried by the nation for no valid reason. The prinicple is, if you are good at nothing become a politician or join the media. Majority of them are touts - puppets on a chain.

    Rgds,

    Sudhir

It will be a long night but I’m sure an enjoyable and educational one.

  167. Tulika Jyoti Vardhan says:

    helo sir,
This is me Tulika yet again reading ur blog..I do not like IPL so much..simply bcoz it makes me feeel that if I had anything in between 4 to 6 crore or more i cld have owned any of these teams..so I m not a huge fan of such events..and guess what sir..ITS money that makes people stick together..cynical.Perhaps.
Now getting back to my favorite person YOU… you know as far as I am concerned My all time favorite movie of yours has to be Agnipath, Abhiman,Guddi,Chupkey Chupkey,Bhoothnath,BaagBaan, all movies with u and SRK and some more i do not recalll….But one movie that stands out from this list is Main azaad hoon……this was awesome..u speaking in the stadium…on a big screeen…was a breath taking scene…..u r an amazing actor… i guess many people have said it. More than this it had a song…”Kitney baazooo kitney sir..gin le dushman dhyan se..haare ga woh har baazi jab kheleein hum…. ” this is my favorite song..
you know i wanted to say you so many things….yet i am feeling as if i hv to figure out the words. meeting u is a dream…that i hv cherished …u know there was a time when i felt what i can do to meet u..the first idea came into my mind was that i cld be those girls who give away the awards..in filmafare..the second was ofcourse KBC….but i guess i wanted to be someone more than the candidate..it self….. u wont blv but i also dreamt of making u my company’s Brand ambassador…..(ofcourse the company hasnt been started yet)..and I do not like the idea of standing at Prateeksh to get a glimpse….and get tht signature on my autograph boook……tht wldnt be enough for me…..so i wld wait…..till when i do not know….and will try and figure out some way…..
this is an incredible media where i get to talk to u ….and I hope u read me as welll….U know today things are very bad as far as economy and job status is concerned.. I was one of the people placed in top 5 IT company’s of the country and awaiting joining since a year and a half… Ofcourse they have given some information as in what is happening and all…but yeah no formal statements whether they would take us or will issue regret mails……You just dont know..so in the meantime..i am lucky enough to find my self a job in my home town Patna(Bihar) working for the government..
Life I think i do not need to say it to u …bcz u know it more than any one else is very difficult to deal with….you want to work….and work hard..but you have this leaugue of Gentleman who would take all the credits and when it comes to blame they would immediately put in on u…..you got to save yourself from everything and yet survive in any company you are working for….AND u are a genius when it comes to surviving criticizm….trying to learn it from u but i guess it isnt so easy………

    rest all is fine…
    u tc..enjoy
    Loads of love,
    Tulika

    Hello Mr Bachchan…

Sorry but no time to make comment again… :-(

No Sunday rest. No time for anything. Got home way pass midnight last night after the family do/party. Had to do some work on restoring comp. Had to make an important phone call to one person this morning. They’re having a fever and not at all well. So was worried. And that was all I wanted to pay attention to today.

Then went to sleep but got woken not long after with a knock on the door! Some go straight for my kitchen to cook (Uninvited but hey this is family at best. Relax and knowing they are always welcome! :-) Some come into my living room to try and get me out of my sleepy state. Some tells me I have to go and pick up more family members who wants to join them…err us. All are still here. Love them but no peace/rest. :-( Just trying to get a few minutes away from them to post this and some FB messages.

I love my family to bits really…just that today…far too many of them for me to handle!! lol

Now gonna have to go as they are getting unhappy they are not getting my attention. So later…

Hope you are having a nice day…and evening…and now night…

    Dear Sir,

Today is my first day on this site and it is indeed a great honour for me to write to you. It has been a lifetime dream to interact with you on a one to one basis, which is partially fulfilled..may god be kind enough to fufill my dream of meeting you in person some day.

Responding to your modest (as always) comments on the Times now show…Mr Arnab surely needs to rename his episode on you as “Unforgettable” rather than “Total Recall”,
As we try to recall long lost images, and not the ones which form part of our daily blood flow…Thinking about you and your movies is a matter of routine for most of us…It is just like saying our daily prayers before beginning the day.

I believe Mr. Arnab is an intelligent man and shall do the needful…

Looking forward to many more years of interaction.

With great respect, admiration and inspiration
    Yours truly,
    Abhijeet

  202. Abhaya Sharma says:

    Respected Brother
    Sadar Pranam

First thing first.. I am back to the blog after two days.. I did take part in the marriage of dear Meesha.. yet I regret.. yes I seldom use this word.. I regret my inability to meet Ravi Malhotra.. not that I just promised to meet him.. more because I missed opportunity to meet him on two occasions in too recent past.. I am Sorry Ravi Sir.. first for missing a call from you on 16th April as you were returning from Mumbai to Pune.. and then not able to find an opportunity ( time would be a misnomer..) on two days on trot in Pune on 18th and 19th April when I was in your town..

I would not be missing from the blog entirely but I can always say that I would be seen less often or atleast in much smaller Avtars.. some of you who were bored with my long posts would heave a sigh of great relief.. that I would be busy with IPL 2 and here is the link to my only second article on IPL2..
    http://abhayaipl2.blogspot.com/2009/04/first-two-days-of-ipl-2.html

Now Deccan Chargers have done well enough to register an eight wicket win over KKR and thus telling all of us to not read too much from what they experienced from them in the first edition..

Yes I did get to see the PPT from BigB Yahoo Group.. It was OK.. not such extraordinary as you have tried to put it to us.. I have seen wonderful PPT presentations.. and with missing presentations and repeatability of few names it did not go too well with me.. I had myself compiled some of your unforgettable pictures and presented them directly through Slideshow zilla along with the songs from your movies.. I know my site does not work in India or maybe nowhere today.. for whatever reasons.. yet I can bet one could get far too imaginative with presentations even with PowerPoint..

Now, this is not condemnation of such illustrious compilations by FM (not Frequency Modulated but Fatima Mahmoud.. sister excuse me if i have spelt you wrongly..).. I am sorry I came to know Zain Hussain for the first time.. It was great to know that Kishore worked with you on Mohabbatein.. I wonder in what capacity..

If I do not close this chapter here.. there would be far too many members of bigB group who would hurl all sorts of remarks and comments on my observations.. Fatima wrote to me once I had joined the group on introduction from none other than Gisele Barbosa.. may be that reminds I can try and provide the living legend for you folks there on her website.. which does work many a times in our country..

And Last but not the least.. Brother Heartiest Congratulations of completion of 1 year here.. may you continue to write as elaborately as you do and we too could extend it further with our views on the posts and sometimes off it too.. What follows below are my views and no one has to respect them or even debate.. I know I could be wrong in some cases.. yet I say..

The two most remarkable posts - one on Teji Bachchan’s Birthday and another on reply to Jug Suraiya’s TOI subverse.. (The post on Shobhit Kaushal was a close competitor to the second!)

The two most lovable female characters - Reeham and Rose (Reshmi Philip, Rochelle and Rasha Zayed, Kashmira Grewal, Preeti K. Carla Flum from Germany and Zhenya and Lena from Russia missed out very narrowly, Tumpa Ghosh and several others did make a competition)

The two most lovable male characters - Subhash Kaura and Ravi Malhotra (There were far fewer competitors – (Deepak T(aunk) and Deeapk B(hardwaj), Satyam bhai and Dr. SMS- Oh I should tell you that it means Dr. Shashi Mohan Sharma)

The two places described on the blog : Kanya Kumari and Kuala Lumpur (Paris and New York’s unforgettable tour!)

Two most lovable Quotes: Experience Speaks and Wisdom Listens and the other on Roses and Thorns ( There were far too many that I actually liked can’t recollect all!)

Two Characters I love most from your family- Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan (for his role in Delhi-6) Competition came from all immediate members of your family especially Smt. Teji Bachchan (Of course I leaned only enough of her after reading the autobiography of Dr. HRB and your account of her on this blog) and madam Jaya Bachchan for her role in Abhimaan)

More Later with usual love and affection

    Hello My Biggest Star,

Congratulations for completing one year of the blog, we can call it Ur another success. And I wish if it could last for endless period. Thank U for Ur affection. I don’t know whether I have reached Ur heart or not, U will always be there above everything in my life.

For last 2 days I could not connect to net, so late reply.

Enjoyed the marvelous effort of Fats and Amit. Hats off to my friends. I am missing myself in that ppt file, though my wishes are always there with U.

Yes, enjoying IPL very much. U r right, it’s like addiction, somehow I have to evercome that. Rain has poured water on yesterday’s matches. U know being a KKR, I’m bit depressed today. The way team defeated today is not at all accepted by me, there should be some sort of dignity in the defeat, not this way.

VOTE, a nightmare, constant sound pollution, pointing out faults of the oppositions, false commitments, price rise of regular commodities - making our life as bad as hell. Suddenly roads are getting repaired, water supply increases and many more, nobody looks after the poors, they go to hospitals and get treated like unwanted creatures. And biggest stars are appealing us for casting our own vote. Every time we vote with new hopes, everytime we face bouncers, no rectification to the bottom lines. Actually the base is already rotten, the pillar is not strong, if some Govt. can make the base strong, some positive changes may take place. This time again we will hope for that. We have no other choice.

My love as always, be my Hero, be the same as always U r, be the same BigB, very close to our heart.

    Tumpa

Wonder: do you ever meet your fans/admirers? My twin tots ( 2 yr old boy and girl) , amazingly, recognise your image wherever they see it as “No-no-no-no-no”…….after the song sequence in Bhoothnath. i say “amazingly”, because they ( perhaps) saw bits of that song on television just a couple of times , when they had not quite turned two.
Don’t know whether they qualify as fans or admirers - but i do know they would, at the very least, clap with delight when they do see you….and i ( selfish of me, I know) would love to see their little faces when that happens…….if that happens.

    Dear Mr. Bachchan,

Hope you are well in the United Kingdom.

The emails and feedback from the EFs from the BLOG, BIG B Yahoo Group have been pouring in. I actually have personally replied to all of them and actually took a day off to rest and also happily re-live the moment you mentioned my name on your BLOG.

I do wish I had included yet another slide in the presentation to Thank My Dear Friend (Mahendra Vakhat From New Jersy, USA) because it was his You Tube Video of your pictures against the DON Theme Music (link shown here)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcs1CJITiOc

that had Pumped Me Up So Much that When Fatima (THAT GLORIOUS INSTIGATOR) suggested doing something of this sort for your BLOG’s 1st Anniversary, I was the 1st to Sign Up The Project. The Project Grew and Grew and it turned into the 150+ slides.

I would like this opportunity to Thank Mahendra for the inspiration and for his lovely You Tube Video. I know that Fatima had forwarded you this Video and You had called it “COOL” !!!!! I am sure the EFs here are going to enjoy this You Tube Video and I am hoping that it will inspire even more EFs to do so more good quality work than my presentation.

To Fatima, Amit Sagnani and Zain Hussain and Kishore
and all those who helped in the compilation of PPT..

Well, I have written to Zain directly after I got his email.. I am highly apologetic of my remarks.. galati kar ke maan lene mein galati thoodi kam zaroor ho jaati hai..

I am indeed apologetic to he kind of terse words about the presentation.. I must have been in some kind of different mood altogether.. I know I myself did not like my comments made here about the presentation.. it would have definitely hurt the concerned people..

I am apologetic to all of you and also wish that brother too takes a note of it.. if he does.. I will only add here that yes.. I was indeed wrong on my remarks about the PPT.. I take my words back.. one should try to appreciate the efforts people have put in ( I was later told Amit Sangani took 3 weeks to compile it and in 3 seconds I decided to call it whatever I did.. too ad on my part.. od forgive me for being so envious of the good efforts of the bigB group..

I hope someday I am able to render some help to these set of people.. Kishore knows it others too should know that it was not with bad intention that it did appear over here..

Apologies to all again.. and love to all those who were part of it.. for compiling and contributing..

Post Script; I am not as motivated as some of you and in 27 years of my existence in Mumbai I only made two efforts to stop over at Prateeksha once for a equest for Amitabh bachchan’s Complex of Library in late nineties and a couple of years back on our way back to home from Juhu.. that too since the two sons of my younger brother did want to have a look of his bungalow.. I may not be a fan.. indeed I respect ad admire and also love the living legend as much as anyone of you..
