i agree with you 100%. This British created problems that we are still suffering from.
Think of following
(1) Only country ruled this land never stayed here. Moguls/Aryans/Parsi /Jews they made this country their home not these people.
(2) Palestinine/Isreal issue,
(3) India/Pakistan issue,
(4)ruling America for years ,
(5) Slavery in africa and making the whole contintent a bagger.
(6) Sending thieves and criminals to Australia
This country made whole world more miserable than any country i can think of .
We still going through repercussions almost every day

just a little joke for a tongue-in-cheek view of the situation—
still proud to be an Indian inspite of everything.
* During the Cold War, if USA launched a nuke-loaded missile,
Soviet satellites would inform the Soviet army in 3 seconds and in less
than 5 seconds Soviet counter-missiles would be on their way.
This was their scenario……………..
* But if there is a nuclear war between India and Pakistan:
* The Pakistan army decides to launch a nuke-missile towards
India.
* They don’t need any permission from their Government, and
promptly order the countdowns.
* Indian technology is highly advanced. In less than 8 seconds,
Indian army detects the Pak Countdown and decides to launch a missile in
retribution.
* But they need permission from the Government of India.
* They submit their request to the Indian President. The
President forwards it to the Cabinet.
* The Prime Minister calls an emergency Lok Sabha session. The LS
meets, but due to several walkouts and severe protests by the
opposition, it gets adjourned and adjourned indefinitely.
* The President asks for a quick decision.
* In the mean time, the Pak missile failed to take off due to
technical failure. Their attempts for a relaunch are still on.
* Just then the Indian ruling party is reduced to a minority
because a party that was giving outside support withdraws it.
* The President asks the PM to prove his majority within a week.
* As the ruling party fails to win the confidence vote, a
caretaker government is installed.
* The caretaker PM decides to permit the armed forces to launch a
nuclear missile. But the Election Commission says that a caretaker
government can not take such a decision because elections are at hand.
* A Public Interest Litigation is filed in the Supreme Court
alleging misuse of power by the Election Commission.
* The Supreme Court comes to the rescue of the PM, and says the
acting PM is authorized to take this decision in view of the emergency
facing the nation.
* Just then one of the Pak missiles successfully took off, but it
fell 367 miles away from the target, on its own government building at
11.00AM.
* Fortunately there were no casualties as no employee had reached
the office that early.
* In any case, the nuclear core of the missile had detached
somewhere in flight.
* The Pakistan army is now trying to get better technologies from
China and USA.
* The Indian Government, taking no chances, decides to launch a
nuclear missile of its own, after convening an all-party meeting.
* This time all the parties agree.
* Its three months since the army had sought permission. But as
preparations begin, “pro-humanity”, “anti-nuclear” activists come out
against the Government’s decision.
* Human chains are formed and Rasta rokos organised.
* In California and Washington endless e-mails are sent to
Indians condemning the government and mentioning “Please forward it to
as many Indians as possible”.
* On the Pakistan side, the missiles kept malfunctioning. Some
missiles deviate from target due to technical failures or high-speed
wind blowing over Rajasthan.
* Many of them land in the Indian Ocean killing some fishes.
* A missile (smuggled from USA) is pressed into service. Since
the Pakistan army is unable to understand its software, it hits its
original destination: Russia .
* Russia successfully intercepts the missile and in retaliation
launches a nuclear missile towards Islamabad.
* The missile hits the target and creates havoc.
* Pakistan cries for help. India expresses deep regrets for what
has happened and sends in a million dollars worth of Parle-G biscuits.
* Thus India never gets to launch the missile.
* Pakistan never gets it right.
* And we live happily ever after!!!!
* Long Live Indian Democracy

Dear Mr Bachchan,
My blood boils with anger upon reading such a cheap and disgusting message! I mean to wot level can pple stoop to??? No matter what education they give us, we wont compromise on our values! No bomb, no education and no country can break our spirit or culture! I’m sorry but we are not here to adopt a gandhigiri attitude to this. Anyway, we need to show our respect to Gandhi though for us to be independent today.
Vande mataram!

Hello Sir,
Thanks for posting and making the nation motivated.
I agree to the above statement but I believe that whatever be the situation or circumstances but we never allow any outsider to break our unity and destroy our culture. People here still give care for the relation and human values. They still have tears in their eyes for every citizen who become a victim of terrorism.
I wish everything comes back to normal very soon.
Thanks

Good one, Amitji. After a long time you have written something when we are awake. As for the matter, yes I believe we have alrady lost our culture and heritage to a great extent. But of course we can preserve what little we have.

Only I wish your replies were in “normal and happier” circumstances. but nevertheless, as I mentioned in my message earlier yesterday (when you decided to come back to the blog) and ofcourse today (when I notice that you have replied to me) is the most that I have been happy-thrilled about anything since 26/11 happened.
Even though I am not there physically but I can feel the pain and I really really wish all this anger among the Indians is channelised in a constructive manner so that a strong message is sent to the inept, corrupt politicians that time for change is now.

Dear Mr. Bachhan,
Had occassion to meet with you and Jaya in 1972/73 when I was studying in IIT Bombay. This was at a Bungalow in Juhu while you were shooting for Ek Nazar, a film produced by a distant Uncle and I therefore had the privilege of being invited to the shoot. Just days earlier, had met Jaya too on the IIT Bombay Campus while she was shooting for Jawani Diwani.
We had several guys out there who were as ardent fans of her as she was of Dharmender in Guddi.
Good catching up with those memories again.

Honourable Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh of India
Government of Republic of India
Office of the Prime Minister, Room#152

New Delhi 110011
India
Subject: Plea to ensure a proper plan of action and combat facilities for Indian protection forces.
Your Excellency Prime Minister,
Sir, I read the following in the Preamble of the Constitution of India.
Preamble
WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizens:
JUSTICE, social, economic and political;
LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;
EQUALITY of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them all
FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation ;
IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY this twenty sixth day of November, 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION.

As another day dawns three days since the horrific attacks in Mumbai started and as Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai is still getting cleared from the aftermaths of the war against terrorism that took place inside the building, I plea to the India Government to come up with a clear agenda to combat terrorism.
It was shocking to see that police officers standing so close to the line of fire were not having with a bullet proof protection vest. It was shocking to see that the rifles they had in hand were not capable of any support to the police themselves. In situations like this we need swift action to inhibit loss of life and that has to rely on various factors that haven’t been addressed yet. I can’t imagine answering the families of the brave police officers who lost their life in combat. How do I tell them that they died because there was not enough protection given to them because the Government of India wanted to save money on protection gear? I want to appeal to all police authorities to take on the path of Gandhi and weave their own protection gear until one is provided to them by you, The Government of India.
The police officers of the nation need better equipment and clear structure of what they need to do in situations like 26/11 and scheduled practice sessions where they are trained to combat terror. Also we need to have a clear strategy for war against terrorism and I as a citizen of India want a clear agenda in front of me from the Government of India that states this.
Simple actions like:
1. Depoliticizing Terror Combat
2. Direct election of the Major in each City
3. Proper combat equipment for Indian protection forces
As we exercise our duty every day, we ask to exercise our rights to protect our own country men, women and children today.
Thank you very much for your kindness and patience to read this plea.
Jai Bharat,
Yours sincerely,
Prof. Krupali Uplekar.

Glad to receive the picture, really liked to read what is included in it.
as an MA student, my topic is with British colonialism in India, and Indian resistance to it, so i really come across such an argument as i tackle it from an ideological point of view. So I would tend to agree that was the real strategy by the British to subdue the Indian people.
I would also tend to believe that this same strategy is still maintained, although in a different way, and with different means…but still the aim is to destroy cultures and heritages, in order to have nations subjugated and controlled. And this is not only applied to India…but it is on a larger scale now.
And getting aware of this is really a good chance to preserve this ‘backbone’. I wish we could develop such an awareness, and to have the ability

LETTER OF EDITOR OF TIMES OF INDIA TO PRIMEMINISTER
Dear Mr. Prime minister
I am a typical mouse from Mumbai. In the local train compartment which has capacity of 100 persons, I travel with 500 more mouse. Mouse at least squeak but we don’t even do that.
Today I heard your speech. In which you said ‘NO BODY WOULD BE SPARED’. I would like to remind you that fourteen years has passed since serial bomb blast in Mumbai took place. Dawood was the main conspirator. Till today he is not caught. All our bolywood actors, our builders, our Gutka king meets him but your Government can not catch him. Reason is simple; all your ministers are hand in glove with him. If any attempt is made to catch him everybody will be exposed. Your statement ‘NOBODY WOULD BE SPARED’ is nothing but a cruel joke on this unfortunate people of India.
Enough is enough. As such after seeing terrorist attack carried out by about a dozen young boys I realize that if same thing continues days are not away when terrorist will attack by air, destroy our nuclear reactor and there will be one more Hiroshima.
We the people are left with only one mantra. Womb to Bomb to Tomb. You promised Mumbaikar Shanghai what you have given us is Jalianwala Baug.
Today only your home minister resigned. What took you so long to kick out this joker? Only reason was that he was loyal to Gandhi family. Loyalty to Gandhi family is more important than blood of innocent people, isn’t it?
I am born and bought up in Mumbai for last fifty eight years. Believe me corruption in Maharashtra is worse than that in Bihar. Look at all the politician, Sharad Pawar, Chagan Bhujbal, Narayan Rane, Bal Thackray , Gopinath Munde, Raj Thackray, Vilasrao Deshmukh all are rolling in money. Vilasrao Deshmukh is one of the worst Chief minister I have seen. His only business is to increase the FSI every other day, make money and send it to Delhi so Congress can fight next election. Now the clown has found new way and will increase FSI for fisherman so they can build concrete house right on sea shore. Next time terrorist can comfortably live in those house , enjoy the beauty of sea and then attack the Mumbai at their will.
Recently I had to purchase house in Mumbai. I met about two dozen builders. Everybody wanted about 30% in black. A common person like me knows this and with all your intelligent agency & CBI you and your finance minister are not aware of it. Where all the black money goes? To the underworld isn’t it? Our politicians take help of these goondas to vacate people by force.. I myself was victim of it. If you have time please come to me, I will tell you everything.
If this has been land of fools, idiots then I would not have ever cared to write you this letter. Just see the tragedy, on one side we are reaching moon, people are so intelligent and on other side you politician has converted nectar into deadly poison. I am everything Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Schedule caste, OBC, Muslim OBC, Christian Schedule caste, Creamy Schedule caste only what I am not is INDIAN. You politician have raped every part of mother India by your policy of divide and rule.
Take example of former president Abdul Kalam. Such a intelligent person, such a fine human being. You politician didn’t even spare him. Your party along with opposition joined the hands, because politician feels they are supreme and there is no place for good person.
Dear Mr Prime minister you are one of the most intelligent person, most learned person. Just wake up, be a real SARDAR. First and foremost expose all selfish politician. Ask Swiss bank to give name of all Indian account holders. Give reins of CBI to independent agency. Let them find wolf among us. There will be political upheaval but that will better than dance of death which we are witnessing every day. Just give us ambient where we can work honestly and without fear. Let there be rule of law. Everything else will be taken care of.
Choice is yours Mr. Prime Minister. Do you want to be lead by one person or you want to lead the nation of 100 Crore people?

Dear Amit Ji,
Nice to see you back, again. I understand the gravity behind the quote you mentioned. I totally agree India was so great once upon a time., even in pre-independence days. Why did we change for worse in the post-independence days?
Education may not be bad if applied in the correct sense. In the global age, we have to compete with everybody else.
In the society today in Britain, telling a lie is forbidden. Courtesy is prevalent. Despite the differences, people respect each other and care for each other. You can’t buy anybody with bribe in day today life. Corruption is not rampant. Politicians are answerable to people.
There are negative aspects to life as well. Probably there are good and bad coexisting in every society.
You know the problems in our society. I am pleased to see the unity among the citizens post 26/11. I hope it continues. I hope the corrupt politicians will listen to people. I hope more muslim organizations come up condemning terror.
I totally agree with you that we should protect ourselves and never lose this freedom and use the freedom to the righteousness!
Bye for now1

how come u didn’t think twice before accepting in the first place. even before the mumbai incident took place, u knoew jolly well that you would be singing and dancing for bill clinton and ‘them”. so why the mockery?
your friend rgv and his friend ritesh deshmukh who was your mover and shaker for the unforgettable tour wanted to get some quick ideas on how to make terror tourism moolah. otherwise how would you justify their presence? where were they when there were the mumbai train blasts?

Disgusting to know what all we have been put through.
But then it is just another set of people following the same rule in today’s world as if the Brits did not do enough. The same divide and rule, the same apathy to our cultural and spiritual values. (Which is so very much palpable in places of higher learning like JNU, i know it being a product of JNU!!)
What we need today is Vivekananda ver.2 who can instill self-respect, self-confidence and the ability to strike back when hit. If only wishes were horses….

Amitji,
Great Post, what a way to put a smile back on the saddened faces.
Great to have you back and pondering on the thought of return, I guess it would be great to maybe respond directly to the few that were messing up this blogspace, I see you have already responded on the previous post:)
All the best always

Dear Mr. Bachchan
How did you find this? Such an important and timely message to arouse the passion of Indians. Hope Indian newspapers across the country reproduce this article in this hour of crisis.
Thanks for your service

Dear Sir,
this is a very interesting and chilling piece of history.
Let it become history forever. No one should ever lose their culture and self-esteem, no people and no person on earth should be dominated ever again. This may sound like utopia, but still worth praying and working for!
Love and regards,
Elisabeth

Well….I missed being on your reply list yesterday and am pretty cut up about it. But I am just so happy right now to see you back on the blog again that I can forgive anything. I hope my happiness is not premature and that you actually intend to stay in touch. Your statement on Day 223 was ominous and I really felt hurt and betrayed tho I guess i didn’t voice it as eloquently as Pintu or use the Queen’s english like Subir (LOL).
Anyways glad u r here….right here, right now is what is important!!!

Dear Mr Bachan
I am relatively new to this site, however i have spent quite some time reading the material and understanding it. I live in London and when the terrible attacks took place in mumbai there seemed to be extensive coverage on the news and media as one would expect. However as it stands today there is literal to none coverage in the news or tabloids. There is a vast amount of British indians living here in the UK and i find it somewhat odd that coverage has ceased. I hope you do contiune to write your blog as your words are very profound and uplifting. Maybe india’s ministers should read it to they may learn a thing or two.
All the best

Dear Amit Ji,
Thank you for re-posting the image.
You are absolutely right. We should not let anyone break our backbone i.e., our culture and heritage. Oppression only works when one lets someone else oppress. We shall not.
I seriously objected to Indian media’s characterization of our tragedy as India’s 9/11. Why do we have to always tag along to someone else happiness or misery? Why couldn’t we characterize this terrible tragedy as our own 26/11. We don’t need anyone else tragedy to highlight our tragedy. There are many western columnists who are now mocking at us and saying that our tragedy was tragic but not as tragic as 9/11. I wish our media had some selfrespect and would not tag on to Western ideas.

Kind regards.

Here you are, back again, my dear, and we’re all glad. You gave us a scare there for a while. However, I did think you’d decide not to abandon us, and I wasn’t disappointed.
You’ll be getting ready for bed about now, I should think. I hope you had a good day at the studio.

Mr. Bachchan…they say- with fame and name comes enormous responsibility !
Can’t appreciate enough what you are already doing but…is that enough?
Would it be so hard to envision what a difference a person of your stature can make, to openly/publicly motivate and and inspire millions of brethren in these troubled times!
I have heard of your profound dislike for a political position- isn’t there another way to reach out……??

Sir,
There is a need of revolutionary thoughts in the country.
Our situation is just like the HANUMANJI in the Ramayan in the time when he was searching for SITAJI and were stuckup on the sea cost searching for somebody who can go on the other side of the SEA and all we know that there was no better person than HANUMANJI himself. So we should really learn to know what are our TRAITS.
I would also like to share one slogan for all the INDIANS where ever they are. LIGHT A CANDLE IN YOUR HEART FOR DOING THE BEST IN YOUR OWN JOB/PROFESSION/ BUSINESS and see that your every act contribute in a own small way for the DEVELOPMENT OF OUR NATION AND THE BETTERMENT OF OUR COUNTRY MEN.
Lets get the roots of our COUNTRY more powerful and show the world we are ready in every sense. EVEN FOR A WAR IN CASE TIME DEMANDS.
VANDE MATARAM!!

So apt. If we get our nation on track and then perhaps we can change the world perspective on India. For years, world politics has maneuvered India into a position that, using a dining metaphor, is the equivalent at seating it at a table at the back of the restaurant just off the swinging kitchen doors. Why even episodes of the West Wing paints India as this unreasonably troublesome entity all the while lauding a belligerent Pakistan as a Good Friend and Ally. Art imitates life and though there courteous handshakes at the back garden of the White House, making it the 6th story in the American evening news… India is still not given its due recognition. Correction as I consider the latest political wranglings. Rice and McCain in Delhi. So are we a terrorized equal to the States now or are we the means for it volley their intended course of action with Pakistan?
How long will India be undermined? How long will we undermine India?
India is more than quartzy pink elephants, crushed cardamom whiffs, chicken tikka masala and streets lined with starving poor. I’ve heard people gushing about Slumdog Millionaire, of course it’s palatable to the world at large. It’s a very narrow, but familiar, image of what India is. This projection of a third world country of bare footed sniveling dark skins whose salvation is commercialism. Commercialism, isn’t that the new form of Imperialism?
Gosh, in my line of work, I had to frustratingly deal with individuals this past week that were comfortably seated in their white skin abroad amazed at the sight of commandos abseiling from helicopters. “Oh, you have those, too?!”
We are a strong country, indeed because of the courageous souls that inhabit it but we’ve failed miserably in adequately presenting ourselves to the world. We’re so quick to imbibe other cultures as we sacrifice our own. Competing globally doesn’t require a relinquishment of our Indianness.
Cringing at the generation of voices on the other side of the line talking Tennessee…
Now, just muttering … Sigh.
Thank you Mr. Bachchan for letting me vent.

Never ever allow anyone to break our back bone !! Nor pollute and destroy our spiritual and cultural heritage. May we never ever lose our self esteem and become what the invader wants us to become. For we refuse to be dominated !!
So very wise!!! Never heard more wiser words. For afew days after the exodus,t into the hands of the we were losing control, and falling right into the terrorists trap and playi, at last better sense has ng his hand for him. But no more!! Finally, at last better sense has prevailed. We will not allow them to break our backbone!

Dear Amitabh Bachchan,
I am so happy you are back at work ! : )
& happy to see Day 225 with the article.
The content of this article is stunning !
The great truth is in it and you wrote wonderful words !!
I do live in a different country now than my country of birth,
but even under such circumstences keeping ones spiritual & cultural values is possible.
& it is very important to have ones integrity intact as an individual or as a nation under any conditions. Having the “back bone”.
If we keep our spirit we can always win & overcome…
Thank you for writing & for your love..
God bless & take care.
Much love to you.

Sir,
Technology has breached the gap between you and lesser mortals like me ! I appreciate the myriad emotions going thru u and all of us….Our system is probably breaking our backbones and we have taken democracy for granted! We look forward to great actors and philosophers like you who probably can change the system! We are perhaps the largest and weakest democracy in the world which is why “Atankwadi humein ghar main ghuskar maarte hain”. While I am sure that our politicians and bureaucrats wont change, we look forward to your contribution to spread social awareness and wake Indians from the slumber to change the system!

Lalit #50…OMG u said what I have wanted to say. Why does it mean so much if this tragedy is labelled as India’s 9/11? It is a huge tragedy and loss for us and does it seem more relevant only if it gets that acceptance?? It’s like Bollywood…..no…it is the Indian Film Industry, it doesn’t need recognition by way of linking it to Hollywood. How come that events and things gain importance ONLY by linking it to America or finding a parallel there?
The events in Mumbai were India’s tragedy….a tragedy of immense magnitude even without the 9/11 reference. We can draw parallels to the 2 events but to call the November 26 events “India’s 9/11″ is somehow minimizing our own greif.
