The sun shone bright and strong this morning. And within hours the clouds that had cast a grey shadow over the city during the past few days burnt away. Birds chirped, traffic moved, the odd firecracker went off distantly, marking the advent of another marriage ritual.
The media printed a symbolic but realistically true picture of a smilie in the sky. The crescent moon forming the smile and the two stars above and on either side the two eyes ! A strange coincidence in their formation.
Debate and argument continued in the press and the electronic and the volume of comments went up in geometric fashion. The content in each was hard, questioning and reprimanding. Many assumptions and cynical accusations later, some sane and balanced voices were also heard.
One truth that prevailed throughout - a nation is very upset and angry.
Those that do not speak are accused of not speaking. Those that do, get run over by the incongruity of their content. There is loss of faith and hence annoyance. Annoyance not just because there is no faith, but because there is no one that is devising a solution. It is a state where anything or anyone shall become a victim of ridicule and negativity. It is a state when any and every action will be up for question and opinion.
Any democratic set up will require an elected representative and an administration to manage and run the country. Today there is apathy for both politician and administrator. Reams and reams of paper and cyber script has been expounded with solutions and acts and deeds that need to be recognised. Each and all of these bring logical and concerned ideas and suggestions and solutions. Each and all get questioned and put away.
There is far too much that has remained subdued and nascent, for far too long. The dam has just been breached and the waters of the barrage burst out, uncontrollably.
Every individual has a theory of what is wrong and what needs to be done. And anyone with any credible or non credible profile will and is being slogged. There is just no space for reason and understanding or any tolerance towards it.
There is defiance and a certain unashamedness.
Some philosophize in poetry. Some vituperate in words. Some candle in silence, some parade in demonstration. Some brood eventualities, some vocalize in visual. Some conference on strategy, some indulge in exploit. Some weep at loss, some weep at sympathy. Some courage in reconstruction, some repair in caution.
And some… sitting far, or within us, twitter and chuckle on the completion of a dastardly action…!!!

I have made 2 resolutions today.
1. Achuthanandan is a persona non-grata for me. I do not recognize him as an Indian anymore.
2. As an Indian, i am breaking of all relations with Pakistan & Pakistanis for their delay in arresting LeT operatives. I will not watch any Paki program, their cricket team, their artists and will not use any paki product.

I’m angry.
I think it is coward ness, not to be angry. Amitji - I support your reactions on 26/11 Mumbai attack 100%.
Those are natural, same as mine, and billion others. You have the courage to express – as usual few others may chicken-out….
There is no easy solution to these Fundamental Islamic killings those are likely to happen in coming years, which are most heinous of all kinds. This is what, we all need to do
1) Be united,
2) Zero tolerance,
and 3) No appeasement
And this call is to all freedom loving folks, irrespective of their religions (including Muslims), color or creed.
To me, “all Muslims are NOT terrorists” is absolutely true but irrelevant and a cliché sentence. It dilutes the matter; protects the main mass, and covers up the root cause.
The right sentence should be “We are united against anyone who believes in JIHAD, and those who are sympathizer to the cause of Jihad. Islam conceptually does not believe in mutual co-existence, and the final objective of Jihad is to implement Shariyat Law all over the World; either you accept it or be killed, if not today but tomorrow – that is their message.”
Islamic terrorists are just a small “subset” of those Jihad believers – who would like to pursue an “aggressive timeline” – while the final objective remains the same – while their path to achieve that is different.
My grievance is – why the remaining moderate Muslims all over the world are poetically silent, why not they come out on the street, shouting against these killings with the rest, creating a World-Moderate-Muslim-Forum, and declare that they don’t believe in JIHAD and believe is mutual-coexistence?
We know the answer in our heart.
There is nothing poetic, sophisticated or sober about chopping 172 innocent human beings, not because what those folks have done, but for who they are.

I m glued to tv evr since these terrorist attacks started n I seriously feel that India needs really good leaders who are intellectuals, who have their own minds( rather than reading Readymade speeches) n like every Indian HV their own thought process n get angry like every Indian. We are rather seeing weak leaders who are just falling so low just to save their seats. I am totally in sync with your decision not to partake in Bill Clinton’s and Al Gore’s or for that matter any stupid foreigner’s initiatives to collect funds for charity – as India oh so desperately needs all your ranting and raving against corrupt politicians and callous media. And of course let’s not ignore your out-and-out call to all Indian citizens to become active vigilantes. Let’s all sign up on your blog for this varied form of terrorism!! And FYI – you really never did and still don’t need an “order” to – “to join the millions of Indians to walk into the facility of action to face the bullet, to face the enemy.” The options to join the Indian armed forces were and are easily available to all nationals. Maybe you should have heeded to that calling of your soul instead to the lusty passion of glamour –fame – adulation and money. It’s perhaps equally an ideal vocation for your offspring. But-but-but – face the facts that the salary shall not equal all the millions your son and you make – in pretend acting of valiant protagonists or in endorsing products whose testimonials perhaps neither of you are entirely aware of and/or don’t truly believe in. Your life will be an all-encompassing low wage – ration of food and public derision and disparagement. Your death – and only in protecting your country – combative action death – however will positively be resonant of pride, honor and eulogies!!!!
Last but not the least: You are absolutely among the most talented actors in the world – but do you and the other such entertainers – and the other lesser but successful and rich entertainers honestly believe to be deserving candidates of such filthy amounts of money – forget about the shameful idolization by the utterly foolish public? Just for a few hours of distraction!! Priorities of most human beings – indeed extremely deranged and lopsided!!!!

Yours is the only blog that I have read continuously for past 223 days and want to keep reading it for as long as you enjoy writing it! You have said yourself that this blog is a medium through which you express your innermost thoughts/feelings and I got the impression that you wanted to do that..you were enjoying this experience and believe me that feeling made your blog so different from rest of other celebrity blogs! I found you as someone who has achieved a respectable status in life and who has so much wordly experience and good fortune of having association with a poet like your father! By writing this blog, you are making us, the younger generation familiar with not only his great work/words but also showing how those words comes handy in real life situations. For example, last month I got a bad news..I was devastated and I am the kind of person who likes security, who likes to know where things are going up front..and for me at that time it felt like the worst possible situation..but then I remembered..”man ka ho to accha, na ho to bhi accha” and believe me even though the situation I am in ..still sucks but somehow I have a perspective..I felt its ok..need to look forward now..its just one example how your blog is always going to be sooooo valuable!! but again only if you really continue to enjoy it yourself.

Dear Mr Bachchan
PLEASE don’t say these terrible words…. “in serious contemplation, on whether there should be a DAY 224 and beyond”… and then end without any kind of explanation. If you really wish to finish the blog then of course we would not want you to continue if it was causing you worry and misery and adding to your burden. Only you can decide if it is a valuable use of your immensely precious time. But if you feel you have to sign off, at least I beg you to leave us with some reason we can hold onto. The world has far too much unhappiness and confusion right now without adding to the uncertainty and soul searching, and I have to say I would feel utterly lost and bereaved if your blog just vanished overnight. It would be almost impossible now to imagine life without it. I am trying to stay calm, and hoping your final statement tonight is not actually that… a final statement. That would be too cruel to bear. Anyway, thank you with all my heart for each of the 223 blogs so far, every single one has meant something very special to me.

It’s a strange feeling writing to you. I have my exam tomorrow and right now am replying back to you and to so many others. We all have one thing in common, love and respect for our Country and for you as well. Ironically my reason for diverting my mind is not the love for you rather comments from few people. I read your blog especially your reply to “Pankaj”. I think I do understand what you were trying to express. I agree that what Mr Pankaj said was hurtful (not bad). His mistake was he commented on someone’s situation which he doesn’t understand. So as you said he doesn’t understand what its like to be in your shoes. His comment was equally wrong for somebody who’s not AB.
He kind off disagreed with your blog and presented his opinion…incorrect but Honest. He wrote what he felt and you corrected him. It’s as simple as that. This whole episode doesnt make him unpatriotic or somebody we should be ashamed off.
I am sorry but I feel people should not agree with you because you are “Amitabh Bachchan” rather agreement should come because you are right. Whatever is right is right even if NOBODY does it and whatever is wrong is wrong even if EVERYBODY does it.
I think we should not discourage honest voices (that readers are unintentionally doing) but give them correct direction if needed (as you did). Thats all I have to say.
Now that I am here (am not sure if I should write that) let me say, I believe the cover page of your site doesn’t suit the intensity of your thoughts. The page reflects -Amitabh the actor however I felt this blog is about -Amitabh the person. I somehow could guess your reply to this comment however just voicing my opinion you can ignore it I won’t mind

Wonder what makes you contemplate about the possibility of ending the blog? I love visiting ur blog but if u choose not to continue then there is nothing that we can do about it. I am curious as to why u wud consider discontinuing tho.
Anyways…..I am quite miffed and discouraged by those words so I choose not to write my views today. What’s the point of sharing something with this community that we have formed if it is not going to exist tomorrow? May as well say my ‘bye’s today and be less pained by the rejection when it comes. Really cant understand why there is an increase in people that visit this blog, to post negative comments repeatedly, and intentional potshots towards Mr Bachchan.
Of course, it is an open forum, and everyone has the right to say as they please.
However, common sense tells me that if you dont like something that the author is posting, then just do not visit the site! Quite simple I think!
Its not like Mr Bachchan is getting 1 rupee for each person that visits the site!!! Lol! - If you dont like the views and opinions, then we all have a choice!
Debate, and constructive discussions are always healthy, but it just seems that a lot of people are here to vent anger unnecessarily for no clear purpose.
I also cant understand why there is so much insistence on Mr Bachchan appearing on TV to make statements - again, personal choice!
We all certainly look upto him and would love to see the strong figure head that we know, be present on TV, giving encouraging words, and try to set this country in the right direction… but come on…. Should that full responsibility really be on his shoulder’s ?
Mr Bachchan - not sure if you will read this comment - but I have definitely enjoyed watching all your films, and loved keeping upto date on every single post on this blog.
For most of us, we would be lucky to catch a glimpse of you in person, let alone actually manage to speak to you.
So this has been a great forum for us to get an insight on your thoughts , and general day to day happening.
It would be sad if you do discontinue this blog, but on the flipside, if you feel it is not achieving the purposes you had thought it would, then it is understandable

Good to hear from you after a silence. Sometimes silence speaks more than words.
Reading your blog everyday has become a habit for me and I believe for many out there. Your thoughts and comments on certain issues influences many to follow your steps and lead a positive life.

I wanted to tell you a small incident.
I live in Ottawa, Canada and happened to meet this Canadian lady just a day ago. She was sitting next to me in the bus. We started chatting and as soon as she came to know that I am from India, she said I feel sorry for what’s happening in mumbai and blah blah. Can you imagine the next thing she could have asked me? Well, her next que. to me was ” Do you think India is gonna collaspe?” God, that question shook me from head to toe. I could n’t believe that someone could actually ask me that. I somehow convinced her that this is never gonna happen. We are too strong to succumb to anybody. But when alone, I could not stop thinking about what she asked me. If we the people of India do not rise up now, If we the people of India do not act now, that day is not far that there may be a power taking over us Indians. If you think of it, China is invading Tibet, why not us in some time if we do not make ourselves stronger? Even a thought of it, shievers me from head to toe.
Please sir, We got to do something, not just voting for a right person, something more than that.
And please do not contemplate about quitting blogging, we all need to be in touch. We all need to know what we all are feeling about all this happening in our country.
I must say one thing though, there has been some positive effect too of these mumbai attacks. Till now I was thinking of getting a job in US and settle here forever or for next few years but after these attacks all I want is I want to be home, I want to be back in India as soon as possible. enough of visiting other countries, Its time that I be in my motherland and grow with my people. Face whatever happens in my country.

There is total frustation between each and every Indians. Frustation that nothing has been done, frustation that nothing is being done and frustation that we know that nothing will be done. A new Home minister will come a New Cm will come, FBI from us has come then what….Its very clear that this terrorist couldn’t come without some help from India. We can gun down the terrrorist but what we will do with the people inhouse who are part of this act. And the number of this people are more than the actual terrorist. This people can be anyone who are corrupt, or brainstormed or week indivudal who are forced to be part of this act.
I can’t see any end to this….this is ongoing affair.
By the way sirji, your blog has given us a hope, hope to live a life in right way. If you are planning to stop the blog beacuse of some Maruan like Pankaj then you should re-consider. Panakj may be another weak person like our polittician who wants to create attenetion by doing wrong things and I think he he succedding like Raj Thackery. So please everyone stop talking about this guy and let him be in his hole where he has come from. We are the people who by giving unnecessary giving attention to this type of people, make them feel importance.

Reading your blog these last months, it seems that the writing process is cathartic for you. If so, please do continue to write - for yourself. I read many comments informing you of your duty to “do something” now, saying your unique position demands it. I say the only duty is to be true to your self, at this moment in time.

Is our reaction one of indignation and anger? Or one of a larger realization that managing relationships in a fragmented, judgement-driven, and self righteous world is a precarious problem?
It seems to me that the root-cause of such events, and many more than plague our world today, has nothing do with security policies, police equipment, intelligence agencies, or even nour political leaders.
The root cause is the way we behave, think, and evolve as human beings. The way we allow our identities to be associated with only a group ONLY, such as country, religion, ethnic group, race etc, which is lower in heirarchy than the whole world (note the problem is with the ONLY). The way we believe that our view of ‘what is right’ is the only valid view, and that we are egotistically attached to defending that point of view. And the way we allow years of conditioning obscure the lens with which we view reality and react to it, not aware that the conditioning is something we are a victim of.
So what is th course of action then? There are possibly two of them:
a) Engage in active practice that accelerate our evolution as balanced, whole human beings. That practice ought to be one that brings together the best in holistic healing of the mind, body, shadow and spirit. There are such practices being designed and leveraged by people today, but very few people.
b) Design and disseminate an intervention based on the principles of (a), and make it accessible to the more disadvantaged sections of global society. Those less fortunate people who are disadvantaged environmentally, circumstantially, economically and spiritually. The less fortunate people include the leadership of our institutions as much as ourselves, who need to be ‘healed’ at a very fundamenta
