Ok.. apologies for missing out on yesterday. But here I am today filling in for the 20th.
Several activities happened that prevented me from doing what I was supposed to do !
The shoot for ‘Teen Patti’ was at Kitab Mahal at Flora Fountain on the fourth floor, once supposed to be a library and chosen because reference in the scene needed an artistic background. Bad decision !!
There was no art gallery, no paintings, it was the hottest day in Mumbai, there was no air conditioning, the facility had a tin roof adding to the extent of the heat and the coolers were cooling everything else but what they were supposed to cool. So..
Temperature inside the set, which just by the way had about a hundred people in 50 square feet of space, was, yes… a hundred degrees. Once up on the fourth floor there was no way you could get to the comfort of the vanity van, simply because vanity vans are parked on the road and we have not yet devised technology to get them up to the fourth floor of a building !!
The scene, another irony, was a setting for a high end party. Elegant looking guests, ladies in modern couture, gents in tuxedo, yours truly in tux and silk scarf and wig. No ventilation. All doors and windows shut and covered in black cloth to prevent light from coming in because…. its a night scene. In keeping with the authenticity that the director wanted a great many genuine high end social celebrities invited on set to play small walk on talk on parts. They, may god bless their enthusiasm, came fully prepared with dialogue and brief on character, not aware that there are retakes, for lighting and focus and camera and sound deficiencies at often times, causing them to repeat lines and stay in mood for several hours, despite their now dripping with sweat countenance !!
So… we have the first heart warming reaction from them within minutes of the start.
“You know Mr Bachchan, suddenly we have all developed a very healthy respect for you and your profession. We never knew you had to go through all this in making a film !!
Thank you dear lady. And may you please spread the word around to others of your ilk.
The crowds below are swelling. The police has been informed to bring order. Its a hundred meter walk from the ground door to the van. Its a gauntlet. The masses explode and cheer and applaud. I feel elated and swell my chest. Hey ! At 67, not bad to still demand such recognition. Its then that I notice another fancy vanity van. Its Ajay Devgan’s. Yes of course. He is playing a days’ guest appearance today. Damn !! And I thought the crowds were for me. Sad. But happy for Ajay.
We all live within feet of each other. Ajay and Kajol now 10′ away from my boundary wall in Jalsa. Opposite him, 6′ away, Dharamji, Sunny and Bobby. They sharing common boundary wall with Yash Chopra, Adi Chopra and we never see or meet each other !! Ajay called on phone after about 8 months when we were in the same hotel in London. I was presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to Dharamji at IIFA, in Yorkshire, England, where I met him after years !! Ha..Ha..
But I know and they know that any time they need me or I them, we will be the first to come together !!
The drive back home was a trip to New Delhi and back by air . Two and a half hours to get to Juhu and Jalsa from Flora Fountain. But… the car now a multipurpose vehicle. Office paper work, computer connection through USB card, pillows for a quick nap. Problem area… toilets !! More on this later, please !!
A quick cold, yes cold shower and then to wish Aishwarya’s father. His 70th. Fighting cancer bravely and looking good. A quiet family meet at ‘PURE’ in Taj Lands End. New and neatly decorated. Good food served with some elegance. I refrain. I am the ‘dal’ ‘roti’ misfit at these venues. The names of these dishes unpronounceable, unless your French and Italian is good. The purpose of going to an outfit such as this is to eat, not to feel embarrassed and self conscious in telling them what you want to eat !! Er.. just some plain bread and butter would be fine, thank you. No, no the menu is brilliant, just feeling a little under the weather. Got to watch my weight too. Media thinks I look like a stuffed pumpkin. No, I know you have that on the menu as well, but no thank you I will not be ordering much else. And oh… la addition, sil vous..whatever !! Ya, the bill.
Aishwarya, just in for a day from the wilds of Kerala and Mani Ratnam and back there via Bengaluru tomorrow early morning. Missing them. Wish they would shoot in Mumbai.
Alrighty….
Got to start preparing for 100 degrees again. So see ya !!

Oh, how I enjoyed reading your post today….absolutely amusing!! Well, that lady has many many more of her ilk - me for one…..and we think that stars are pampered, and every whim of theirs is satisfied by their directors…..oh, what a misconception!!
It was really nice to know about your neighbourhood too! Strange isn”t it, how we never meet when we are so close to each other….and about Ajay having attracted all those crowds…nah!!! Infact, he must have been one of the cheer leaders too…..come to pay his respects to you….!!

I am sure Ajay Devgan must have been elated to see all that crowd too and his chest might have swelled too. But I am sure he might have had the same reaction seeing your vanity van. I presume he was right not you.
Dal, Roti reminds me of the mega step taken by the participants of the reality show Bigg Boss 2. They have all the luxuries any home can provide, and still they could not digest one meal comprising of Dal, Chawal and Roti, took to dharnas and even resorted to jumping over the wall. I hope Rahul Mahajan is not planning to join politics. He just cannot lead by the examples he has set on this show.

I had a busy day today too. Half of it I spent at Church baking cookies as the part of Thanksgiving meal for homeless people to be served on that holiday.
Hundreds of cookies. What a tasty experience. Strong smell of spice - cinnamon, clove & nutmeg… I did not eat any cookies though. : )
Let this Holiday treat be for those who always go hungry…
Then I worked my evening shift which was actually a lot of fun because of my friend coworker being there. She is raising two boys with special needs but she is always the shining ray of cheer & laughter. : )
I wish I could sent you some cold fresh air that we now have plenty of here…

We are waiting for Live Earth Concert. With full respect to Ajay Devgan, his recent movie Golmaal Returns is a huge hit, we cannot even imagine anyone in this world near your stature and your ability, a supreme actor by birth. We saw Dostana and liked abhi and john performance and then we came back and saw the original dostana and we were in awe watching you in that movie….You can understand the power of BIg B. I saw the trailer of SRK Rab nee bana dee jodi, but we compared his screen prsence with yours when you were 45 and you were awesome…. So it is better every other acdtor understands what they are otherwise audience anyways knows it.

amitji due to the forest fires here in LA, i have now got lung infection. Hate it…so checking ur blog. The pills keep me awake.. side effects of the medication.
Make sure you re drinking lots of water in that heat out there. I can’t believe the Great AB has to go through all of this still in 2008. Hope the film industry in bollywood makes it safe for all its actors and workers. I can’t even begin to imagine the poor people who work outdoors whole day..
keep your fluid levels normal….remember 8 glasses of pure water everyday…

Connecting with your blog has become more of a ritual than a habit…………it’s a faith that in here we get to hear n read n know what truly is being felt by you and not those concocted stories that fly around the media circus………yes MEDIA IS A CIRCUS………….in our country there for the entertainment of the society and not a responsible guiding backbone of our country…..
Even the lawmaker have consented that spicing up the news is no harm…….what becomes of this world…..oh lord….!!!
Anyways we can’t crib and just have to do our bit n move on with life trying n contributing what best in our capacities to the well being of our owns and society as such……….

how taxing it is to work in such heat & that too party-shot….hmmmm, that’s why u have to act.GOsh! looking happy in heat …HOT SEAT..acting is really difficult.
sometimes after experiencing such heat, I think If god can implant an (Cooler-cum-warmer) in our body…wow, what a bliss!

Dear Amitji, Pure magical the travel with you. Good I did not run away from home in 1960’s to your profession. ‘Distan tassa nastan’ what you see is not the truth. This is true agony of film-making.Enjoying a cold night in sweltering afternoon heat.
Still the residual from the old charm has to be milked and that is the beauty of filmi-duniya. A life time achievement award to be given to your next door neighbour at a city in distant country. Our maths professor in Wadia College Pune who went on to become the Principal and now retired bawaji (Professor Hoshang D Moogat) would say Khadki via the moon. If you telling you actually where trying too shoot in this Sweltering heat, ..tch tch sorry I personally feel that this is not at all Good soon after your recent illness… You should perhaps allow bit more time before this type of Shoot conditions….You must clearly stipulate to your directors atleast for next few months to refrain from this sought of enviroment …
Its quite daunting for even a healthier being..but ofcourse by the summary of your shoot, it seems you actors go through this type of shoots all the time, so now we know the FAME doe not come without the Flame !

You knoow something Amit-Jee of all your intellectual posts and quotes, what i really relish and look forward to are quotes like today’s. No not because I enjoy your sufferings(I am not a sadist…. to enjoy see you suffer or in pain) but because of the wit and humour….your brand of humour, that make such episodes and anecdotes , so interesting. Love the way you take it all in your stride and with a great sense of humour. Absolutely my kind of guy. Like you ,I am also a total dal roti sabzi person, (with occassional Indian sweets thrown in) and my sons call me adhabba on their profession. They are into hospitality business and cater fine dining experiences. Me being the least enthu of their patrons!!!

The purpose of going to an outfit such as this is to eat, not to feel embarrassed and self conscious in telling them what you want to eat !! Er.. just some plain bread and butter would be fine, thank you. No, no the menu is brilliant, just feeling a little under the weather. Got to watch my weight too. Media thinks I look like a stuffed pumpkin. No, I know you have that on the menu as well, but no thank you I will not be ordering much else. And oh… la addition, sil vous..whatever !! Ya, the bill.

Oh my God, you have undergone 100 degrees (deg C or deg F)?
Sir, If it is 100 deg F, it is quite OK, must be around 37 -38 deg C.
But if u say, no it was 100 deg C, then I will say u are using a figure of speech called as “ATISHAYOKTI ALANKAAR” (Exaggerated statement or hyperbole)
Another example: You are saying crowd was not for u, it was for Ajay devgan!!! It is also a height of modesty and can be comfortably accomodated in “ATISHYOKTI ALANKAAR”.
Sir, do u ever ask ur director for “pay revision” after facing so much of problems on sets or u are modest there also, saying- ” SAHAB, BARHA DEEJIYE DO CHAAR RUPAYE… AGAR AAP CHAAHEN TO..). Bye

I thought what you were supposed to do was to act and blogging was voluntary but that is the longest apology I have ever come across. I even forgive you for posting DAY 211 while I was asleep. How do you know the
crowds weren’t for you anyway?
It was worth the wait to read this post with your satirical sense of humor.
I hope you don’t forget to elaborate on that problem area which you have mentioned. I’m sure that read will be highly amusing. When I see this scene in the film I will definitely remember those rough conditions which you have to endure for your craft. It sounds quite uncomfortable but all in the name of art. I just hope your health doesn’t suffer.

A friend sent this to me, thought I would share with you…
A mechanic was removing the cylinder heads from the motor of a car
when he spotted the famous heart surgeon in his shop who was standing
to the side, waiting for the service manager to come to take a look at his car.
The mechanic shouted across the garage, “Hello Doctor!! Please come over here for a minute.”
The famous surgeon, a bit surprised, walked over to the mechanic.
