Still on location at the same cinema in the very same Mumbai of, would you believe it, the 16th of November in the year of 2008 at precisely 7:13 pm
And my oldest and most sincere fans from Jaipur - Delhi send me this -
ONE PARAGRAPH THAT EXPLAINS LIFE!
Arthur Ashe, the legendary Wimbledon player was dying of AIDS which he got due to infected blood he received during a heart surgery in 1983.
From world over, he received letters from his fans, one of which conveyed:
“Why does GOD have to select you for such a bad disease”?
To this Arthur Ashe replied:
“The world over — 50 million children start playing tennis,
5 million learn to play tennis, 500,000 learn professional tennis,
50,000 come to the circuit, 5000 reach the grand slam,
50 reach Wimbledon, 4 to semi final, 2 to the finals,
When I was holding a cup I never asked GOD ‘Why me?’.
And today in pain I should not be asking GOD ‘Why me?’ “
“Happiness keeps you Sweet,
Trials keep you Strong,
Sorrow keeps you Human,
Failure keeps you humble and Success keeps you glowing, but only Faith &
Attitude keeps you going…

Dear Big B,
I like whatever you write.
I am happy to know that youare recovering well..
Iwanted to share this wiht you. My son YASHVARDHAN BHARGAVA just turned two on 31st october. I could not believe the other day we were playing one of your movie song” MERE aangane mein Tumhara kya kaam hain” and he started clapping on the beats of your song. when the song was over he started his pranks which I could not understand first, was all about to the listen the same song” MERE aangane mein Tumhara kya kaam hain” again.
I am very glad, even though he does not understand the song, but he likes it and takes pleasure in listening and dancing on it.
I shared this with my husband and he was stunned.
You are really a great actor that you have such a postive impact on the much younger generation too.
May God keep you and family in all the best of health and also all the world.
Respect you, adore you and love you,

hi big b,
u have just recovered or recovering ( i don’t know) and u have joined work. It seems work keeps u going. best of luck. The words of Arthur Ashe touched me.
Big b, if u find fault in others, try to look and study ur own faults. ur anger will vanish.
forgive and forget. The weak can never forgive.
if u say that i can forgive but not forget that means u have not forgiven.
so we should forgive our enemies for they do not know what they are doing.
Pl tell Jaya aunty to start her own blog so that we can get an insight to her feelings.

“WINSOME” reply and words from Arthur Ashe.
And this should be the attitude to reflect upon.
Why does humankind has this tendency to blame and point the finger at the Almighty when trials and tribulations touches our lives?? And yet we rarely blame ourselves for our own shortcomings and failures as a society?? Why is that??

I would rather not get into a discussion about God or religion. But this just shows that anything could happen to anyone. Why did that accident have to happen to YOU, a great man with so much talent and who is loved by so many, and cause all of the health problems you’ve been having? I’m sure you have a similar answer in that you never asked why did all this success happen to me?
I should get back to work. Soon they will be calling me too.

Hello Amitji,
The story of the Sugar in the Milk is a Parsi Legend. When the Persian empire was invaded by Muslim Arabs tolerance of Zoroastrianism was starting to wane.
Somewhere between the 8th to 10th Century (historians seem to disagree on the dates) Zoroastrian priests approached the ruler of Gujarat, Jadhav Rana for a safe sanctuary. Jadhav Rana then presented them with a glass of milk and told the priests that there was no room for their people in Gujarat. However, the priests dissolved sugar into the milk and in so doing demostrated that like sugar the Parsis would sweeten Gujarat society but not unsettle it.
And how does a Greek girl like me get to know all this? Parsis friends and the internet! Both useful to have around.

Dear Amitji,
Your friend has sent you some real values and truths which govern many of our lives. I have faced innumerable trials in life, and yes, they have made me stronger.
Faith and attitude are two of the qualities that keep me going from day to day, school to school, country to country … and they are the two qualities/values that lead me to success, in spite of obstacles. For the removal of obstacles, I always put my faith my beloved Ganeshji, my Vinaayaka. From him, my faith in myself is heightened. Thank your friend for the timely reminder. Dear Mr. Bachchan,
Starting a lazy Sunday morn here with a cup of coffee and your words.’Tis a cold day outside ,most of the leaves have shed altho there are still leftover spurts of Fall colors .Lot of geese around this time of the year .I can never stop marvelling at their internal antennas ( or should I say GPS systems )which carry them over great space to warmer abodes .Just another small example of ‘ kudrat ke karishme ‘.
I like the inspirational tone of your recent blogs .Specially enjoyed the Vajpeyi article.I also found Obama’s words in the same league as other great speakers as Nehru.Hopefully they will translate into inspirational action .
Already ,those who only see the world with a small ,myopic viewpoint ,are coming out of the woodwork with their ugly comments & actions. I do believe that this is a small group in comparison with the vast majority who think that each of us is but a tiny, equal link in the overall scheme of things.
Much love and best wishes.

I wish to take paintings as a career for a long and need the support of the personalities like you. What I expect from you Sir, is your precious time so that I could show you some recent works. Very well said….
It is also said that

Failure is opportunity in disguise.
So success and failure are two sides of the same coin…sometimes you get one other times the other side….but the more you get failure the chances of getting success next time brightens…..most of the times God does the balancing act …

Dear Mr. Bachchan
Thank you for the articles…when President Bush was asked by a journalist how history would judge us..his answer ‘In history we all would be dead’. A thoughtful intelligent leader will motivate people and communication is an important part of it and as the author of the article states we see it in Mr.Obama. Read the articles on Faith and how appropriate after I watched Jodha Akbar last night. A great movie, I watched a goooood movie after a long long time. Every nuance, every glance of every actor was portrayed so well that it was a pleasure to watch. Of course your voice vibrating through my home was great. Importance was given to every character and not just to the hero and heroine that brought the story alive which is greatly amiss in our movies lately. Once again thank you for the articles and wishing you good health and enjoy your work

Dear Sir,
Looks like I’m one of the first one’s to comment to night. Without further ado, I would like to come to the point I have been seeking to make for some time. I have just finished reading a book named “Cuckold” by Mr. Kiran Nagarkar - an extremely powerful novel which has elicited a lot of critical and popular acclaim. Its essentially a narrative from the husband of Meerabai, the famous Bhakti saint. His life as the son of Rana Sanga, his life as a prince whose wife is in love with the divine, his politics, his progressive ideas, his wars, the climactic battle at Khanua with Babur and his and Rana Sanga’s end. Even while reading it, I could visualize Abhishek playing the role of the Maharaj Kumar, Aisharya playing the role of Meerabai and you, that of Rana Sanga. There is enough material to make it a brilliant movie which would be a critical and commercial success and prove to be the right showcase for Abhishek and Aisharya’s tremendous talents. Please please consider the idea. Thanks and god bless. btw, was blown away by your performance in “Last Lear”, which I saw recently -eagerly waiting to see Dostana.

Sir,
Very compassionate and touching lines .Accepting death with a calm resolve is not the same as giving up on life. You require lot of courage to face impending death . Watching someone die is hard. Watching them linger for days after the tubes and plugs have been pulled is harder. The fear and the pain of lingering death is worse than the journey of the illness. This kind of death watch is simply unbearable - for both the person and the loved ones.
When some misfortune happens to us, instead of asking God, Why me? We should face it by taking a positive view of things and having faith that we’ll be strong enough to get through. Sometimes we can get depressed and feel low in our minds, these types of motivating and uplifting words of others helps us to soothe us and make us feel better.
With his uncommon mix of humility and courage, Arthur Ashe won the love of many and even after his death keep inspiring millions of his admirers, with the attitude and dignity he faced his untimely tragic death .
True beauty is facing life’s challenges with courage and grace. True beauty is having a strong, fighting spirit that never gives up and never gives in. True beauty is being an inspiration to others just by the way you choose to live each day. ”
Our attitude toward life determines life’s attitude towards us.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Don’t Forget
Many times in our lives we are dropped, crumpled and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances tha come our way. We feel as though we are worthless.
But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased you are still priceless to those who love you.
The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by who we are.
You are special. Don’t ever forget it.

Couple things
a) the story about the invasion from BNorth and gujarati King was about Parsees and their reaching Gujarat coast of Bharuch or Navsari or some other place i forget, not sure whether u know it or not. But thats what happened when gthey reached Gujarat frokm Iran where they were thrown out from and then when they approache dthe King for shelater, he sent them a glass full of milk and they sent backv with added sugar, also he then asked them to stay provided they speak the langyage an wear the clothes and hence u see parsees wearing sarees and putting tilak during wedding s and festivals and also doing the rangoli and rice and also wearing sarees like the gujaratees. Also they speak Gujarati, though little anglacised.
b) If u get a chance, hear the speechs of Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton in the Democratic National COnvention that happened ij September this yr. Amazing speeches and amazing orators and leaders.

Sir,
What a truly inspiring story!
And that too from one of the greatest legends!
Why is it Sir that such priceless words come out from the mouth of true heroes only?
Or is it that they are even otherwise true heroes and thats why whatever they say become priceless?
Also, why is it that while reading such inspiring stories we admire the concerned persons. But in our own real life we fail to take any inspiration out of it…???
I hope we remember these good things that you are so religiously bringing to us and that we take inspiration from these…
Keep making us good human beings…

1.You have a wealth of knowledge.

4.I,as I’m sure many others, have missed quite a few posts earlier.

Dear Mr. Bachchan,
This thought is very touching and inspiring. Religion for me is a pillar of faith. God, ofcourse is synonymus to religion. I have always believed that faith and belief could move mountains. I have heard a similar story which i would like to share it with you. There was this person who died and went to god. In heaven, he was able to see his life personified as footprints on the sand. Taking a closer look at the footprints he saw that there were certain moments in his life which were depicted by a pair of foot print and some by two. He pondered only to find out that those foot prints were his and God’s. On further scrutiny, he noticed that there were two pair of footprints at good times and only one during his bad days. He was very upset with god and asked him why did god desert him at those times when he needed him most. He felt god’s presence would have helped him tide through these bad times with ease. For this god replied ” Son!!! those (one) foot prints are mine. I was having you in my arms during those times” .
God bless!!!

Aloha! How you doin and how was your weeekend??? Mne was good, just chilled! Anyhoo that’s an interesting, inspiring post and i guess it all comes down to human nature- when you have something, you want more and when you are going through something you wonder why me? But then, it takes alot of experience, maturitya nd udnerstanding of life to reach to a point where you stop complaining and take things as they come.
I’d better get back to work now!

Hello MrB.
I think the milk and sugar incident happened when the Parsis landed in Gujarat asking for refuge. I seem to remember reading that somewhere sometime.
Lots of love.

My answer to Dr. Reena Riyaz (153) on DAY 206(i),
Simply translated, “baudhik avkaash” should mean “intellectual space”. And I wrote it based on my earlier mentioned dialogue with a key BJP functionary in Gujarat, who often directly takes orders from the Chief Minister Narendra Modi himself. What surprised me was, my own submission to sympathy for Sadhvi Pragya as the news broke out about her arrest, but the BJP man’s stern warning/ stand not to meddle passion with Hindutva beyond a certain degree. If proven, she should face the law of the land, he stated. And I’m no scribe, so he meant it!
It made me further think how might a common Muslim think in a similar scenario. Any encounter or arrest of Muslim suspects is ferociously opposed by the community these days. The recent Jamia Milia encounter is one such example, where a senior Delhi police officer lost his life. While accepting that I could connect for a while with the kind of sympathy Muslims have showered at the suspects under trail, since I too fell for the Sadhvi initially, I also realized, it is plain madness to go beyond a certain degree (my dialogue with the BJP man being a deciding factor in it).
It further made me question….would common Muslims also adopt a similar holistic vision? I have a strong doubt about it, since I have not seen the same kind of freedom Hinduism allows me - the freedom to question your own belief, to decide in whatever way you may choose to live in*** - in the Muslim community, since I started to have an opinion. Even the intellectuals like Shabana and Javed Akhtar would make you believe, that all wrongs withing the Indian Muslim community was due to the majority Hindus (including the acts like Babri demolition and Gujarat riots). Muslims did not have any need to reform from within, Shabana would say (at least in public…which matters above all other things anyway).
I’m one of those who wish hard-line Hindus and Muslims, BJP and Congress spoke directly to each other, and left the masses out of their daily hue and cry. To make it possible though, the intellectuals from both sides should try to first arrive on some kind of a minimum common understanding. Since, I can think on these lines, I know Hinduism does have this “Baudhik Avakash”. However, I do not see any hope from the other side of the fence, as of today. *** Hinduism included Islam, Christianity and every other belief you may think of prior to these faiths arrived in India. There were sects that worshiped idols. Then there were those who opposed it and believed in “Niraakar” (formless)…something Islam rigorously goes for. There were also those who said “no contradiction…..idols can be a way to reach out to ‘Nirakar’ “. They used to have spirited and logical debates on these issues….physical violence never decided their logic and its fate as much as it may seem to be doing these days.
PS - Just for the record, I’m a great admirer of Osho Rajneesh, notoriously known for attacking religious and social ethos. Ethos that may not help you live peacefully. His prime mantra was meditation….I’ve been through it. It made me be free of the unnecessary burdens of Hinduism…but also made me be deeply connected with the positive side of my culture. My religious and social background did not prevent me from doing it. My reference about “intellectual space” could be seen from this context as well.

Mr. B,
And one more thing I remember the sugar and milk story about Parsis, may be I got it wrong.

Sir,
I have been a ardent admirer of yours since the age of 5 and continue to be so. I am really touched by your efforts at sending across a message of peace and harmony through your blog and proving that the pen can be mightier than the sword. Maybe publishing your blog as a book is not such a bad idea considering that it will reach more people and have an impact on fans of yours who might have regionalistic views. I am also really thankful for the wonderful articles you give us access to. Please keep it going.
Regards
Asha
