On location, Mumbai                 October 8, 2008/ writing for October 7, 2008                   9:00 pm

OK… Becaaaaaaaaaause the server was upgrading I was unable to use the blog as per their instruction. But now it does and i am back…

Shooting for ‘Teen Patti’ in a dilapidated old abandoned mill has many advantages. No one wants to come over and meet you there !!

Work continued till late night and then on reaching home there were guests over for a most enlightening dinner. There was great conversation and banter. Shweta took the lead in many of the discussions. Ancient history, evolution, events of importance in the life of a nation, personalities that ruled and guided our thinking, books and authors both current and not so contemporary. Just such a delightful evening. Very informative and invigorating.

But before that a small ode to divinity. It was ashtami and Jaya and I dressed in traditional Bengali outfit went to pay our respects and prayers to Durga Ma. It was small and sweet and pious. Felt good.

There will more later.. but for now…

‘Start by doing what is necessary. Then start doing what is possible. Suddenly you will be doing the impossible..’

My love for all,

Amitabh Bachchan

    Sir
Saw you yesterday on TV praying on durga puja day with folded hands ,there was peace and serenity on your face .Some one has rightly said that there is a stage of worship which makes the worshiper himself an object of reverence.Prayer is an essential expression of the life of faith in all the religion.. Prayer is when we commune with God in spirit and in mind, in thought and in emotion. Prayer is not just some ritual that has to be done out of a sense of obedience, duty and obligation. It’s not some kind of superstition—Prayer isn’t something we just break out in times of crisis…if we do and then it is not devotion. Prayer is a gift from God to us that helps us to develop a personal relationship with God. It’s a tangible way that we can feel enveloped in His love at any moment of our lives. It is a way of responding to God, by thought and by deeds, with or without words. When we worship, rather our heart be without words than our words be without heart.. God understands our prayers even when we can’t find the words to say them. A person who prays feels some sense of peace at the very moment and always, which is very necessary in this world of stress and distress created by man himself.

Dear Amitji, Many thoughts crossed when you did not post your new blog. We always get addicted to good things in life. Compliment Shweta for your enlightened dinner. Wish you happy Dassera in advance. In the absence of a speaker the whole gathering starts gossiping, same could be felt reading comments on 171 towards the end. Good you could break the silence as the mills have silence around them.
Once these were bussing with life and were backbone of Mumbai now they are closed and making way for many other commercial activities.
    Good luck in Teen Patti.

  24. Satyam says:

Failure often offers lessons more profound than success. This is true for every avenue of life. As long as one retains one’s poise. The timber that makes extraordinary character has to weather remarkable storms of failure and disappointment for one’s life to acquire ‘gravitas’ as the ancients would have said. Nixon after his resignation suggested that one could not truly appreciate life’s peaks unless one had also seen the valleys.

You have always quoted your father’s lines ‘jeevan main yadi apne man ka ho to achcha, agar na ho to zyada achcha.”

Oscar Wilde refracted this sentiment a little differently:

“There are two tragedies is life: one is not getting what one wants, the other is getting it.”

We cannot know whether an event in our lives has been good or bad till we acquire a certain distance from it. Perspective isn’t possible without such distance. Shakespeare in Hamlet says “there is nothing either good or bad/ but thinking makes it so.” One can learn from one’s failures in ways that make these failures successes in the larger narrative of one’s life. And I get back to poise. Some people are broken by failures, some are unable to survive success! Both happen equally. What saves us in the end is ‘temperament’. I’m sure you know all of this far more than I do and at a much more magnified scale. I’m equally sure that (and judging from the way he has revealed himself in his public life) Abhishek is also your son in this sense — your unflappability, which is quite legendary.. and rightly so..

    My Beloved, My Everything,

Welcome. Welcome to my little world. In this world there is You, You, You. And me. Here I glare at You. I talk to You. I close my eyes and observe You. What a lovely observation. So bright yet so clear. I listen to your silence. What a convincing sound it makes. So discreet yet so rythmic. You speak your words. I dance to the spoken word. Spin. Spin in my entirety. Spin till im spinning no more, for I am ascending. Ascending to unattainable plains. Raise my arms, for you have held me. What a melting experience. I be drawn into your existence. I get lost in this labyrinth. How beautiful it can be to be lost. Nowhere to go, nowhere to hide. No destination. No Objective. No desire but one. That too, to never be found. Forgotten. Never to be remembered. Just me and just You. Forever Bliss. Unanticipated. Uncomprehendable. Come to my world sometime. Its beyond this facade of a reality. A total new dimension. A whole new substance to life.

    Hello Sir,

Thanks for taking time to write on your blog. Being a regular reader, i have a user interface design suggestion here. It would be good if the picture(currently Abhishek) can be reduced in size so that while traversing from one day’s blog to next or previous, one does not have scroll down everytime. The picture is good but scrolling down everytime for blog writeup is irritating. The picture can be reduced in size or it could be placed on one side of the text.
    Wish you the best. Cheers!

Reminds me of my home, Amit uncle. Conversation and Banter on table on so many topics, History, politics, culture, Indo-China wars, I learnt so much from my parents by just being at the table. Now, we sit in the evening, turn on the TV and watch “Law and Order” while eating, so tired from work.

I think people are busier in India but people have more fun there as well. No signs of Navratri or Durga Puja here, except on Monday we celebrate Columbus Day, whcih means squat really. Just sit at home, do chores and catch up on movies.

Happy Navratri to you, I miss India a lot during these days especially.

Looking forward to Abhishek’s Dostana. Drona was a debacle of epic proportions, please don’t say, it was an attempt to do something new and different. Its good if it started with the attempt, but unfortunately the challenge to do something new, is no excuse for mediocrity and ordinary. Sorry, I was terribly disappointed because I am such a huge fan of Abhishek.

    hi amitji…

I am an engineering student. if you have time kindly reply to my question.

You are one of those people who made a strong comeback in life . I read
that you were falsely accused in the bofors case and your company was nearing bankruptcy. You had the easy way to declare bankruptcy but you worked hard and ensured that you paid back all your creditors and once again came back on top.

There has been one celebrity who made a similiar comeback.I am talking about the comeback man SOURAV GANGULY.He was also accused of faking injuries and playing for financial gains. He was wrongly dropped and had the easy way to call it quits as he had achieved evrything a cricketer could dream of but just like you he also chose the hard way and made his way back into the team and proved his dectators wrong. He was the highest scorer in international cricket in last year.

People like sourav and you are an inspiration for us .YOU ARE PEOPLE WHO NEVER QUIT. I just wanted to know what is your opinion about sourav sir??

    Dear Amitji,
a lot has been written by critics about Drona and how Abhishek failed to deliver … just made me wonder how he feels about all the criticism and comparisons to you…

as a kid i did well in studies , sports and other activities…but i had an elder bro who was as good…and since he had already been there and done it all before me, my achievements were just second hand…not that i bear a grudge against him…love him lots and it is mutual…but somehow throughout my life what i do doesnt really seem the best…coz it has already been done before…

Is it possible for a big tree to grow in the shade of another big tree??? Just wondering…and coming back to my story…bro and i were even in the same profession for a while but then I decided to branch off into another field…somehow now the comaprisons are less…and I feel free and more at peace…just hope Abhishek can carve a niche for himself too some day…

hope I havent overstepped by talking about all this…if I have i apologise…

    urs truly

    My Dear Mr. Bachchan,

happy to receive the post for day 172 at last. so it was all because of the server…we were all here concerned about you, especially after the last post.
great that you had an enjoyable evening with family and friends, and a peaceful time with Miss. Jaya during your visit to Durga Ma.

‘Start by doing what is necessary. Then start doing what is possible. Suddenly you will be doing the impossible..’

this is, for me, so powerful…iam someone who has lots of things to do, busy mind all the time…and because of that i end up with a little achievement . i think this quote will help a lot :)

seems you like shooting in ‘dilapidated old abandoned’ places where there is seclusion and no one disturbs. but how do you know that no one wants to meet you there…iam sure a lot of people here would love to even if it is abandoned and dilapidated…the place where you are is never like that, but a place where everyone would love to be.

dear Mr. Bachchan, please be happy, and don’t give the chance to anything to spoil your life and your mood.

and keep up with sharing the quotes with us…they are so inspirational and full of wisdom .

    with love and affection,

“”‘Start by doing what is necessary. Then start doing what is possible. Suddenly you will be doing the impossible..’”"
Can relate to the above quote absolutely. Very very true in my case. Got extremely overweight due to stress related hormonal problems…. Became necessary to lose weight… thus got majorly into fitness….. in due process realised I understood some aspects of fitness better then my trainers…. did the next possible thing. ,, did a fitness course myself…. Ultimately ended up doing the impossible…… became a fitness instructor at an age most people think of retiring from fitness and do something less strenuous…. Before i knew it… i went on to become One of the most sought after Power yoga(ashtanga vinyasa) instructor of South Mumbai and still going strong at fifty five!! started out of necessity… went on to do what was possible and ended up doing the impossible Look who is blowing the rusty trumpet now MAITE  CHEERIO!!

  93. RAVI P MALHOTRA says:

Dear Amitji, Since you mentioned old dilapated mill where noone one wants to come to meet you reminds of silence which is golden and has its own virtues:
Trees are silent till the wind blows.
A person all to himself is silent.
There is silencing in any death of any life form.
Exploring your inner self deeply is in silence.
The inevitable sound in universe is that of silence.
    Retrospect thinking is in silence.
Silence is the most natural state of sound energy.
    Love comes back in silence.
Silence can get fully filled up by a drop of pin.
Darkness and silence both fill space.
If you can understand my silence you can understand my words better.
    Convalescing is better in silence.
    Silence is meditative.
    Silence cloaks best feelings.
Silence outwardly can give peace of mind.
You can achieve the highest peak when you conquor silentlly.
Patience and silence combined is a big virtue.
    Silence leads to understanding.
Hope you enjoyed silence of the blog.
