London, UK       August 29, 2008           11:10 pm

I am spent !

Spent an entire day giving my responses to all the 300 odd readers who came to the blog for DAY 128. My eyes hurt. They are red and numerous doses of eye drops have not helped. What will help is some rest and sleep.

The children have pulled me out eventually and taken me for dinner. Italian. San Lorenzo. A place that used to bubble with energy and activity. All the greats would always be there. From the celebrity world of tennis and film and on the odd occasion, royalty.

Tonight it was not that same place. Quieter. Fewer people. Not the same energy. Sad.

I have noticed this phenomenon often. Particularly in the west. Loyalties to a particular place change. People start patronizing a fresh new location. Want to be seen there, whether the food is enjoyable or not. It is a trend. Like fashion. One year black, the next white and then red.

The only energy tonight at the restaurant seemed to come when an unstable man ran in and started abusing the staff. A lot of unsavory language was spilled at high decibels. The place became even quieter. And then he left. Management said he keeps doing this often. Scary.

Everyone in the group is lamenting the fact they have to return home. Its been a pleasant trip and long. Time to get back. All good things come to an end.

Ha..ha.. my blog created a bit of humor. An important guest at the Concert, one of those that had written a most flattering and emotional text message, which I put on the post after the London Concert came across to visit me.

He did not agree with my ‘rusty trumpet’ reference in an earlier blog and so, gave me a gift. Ya ! you guessed it.

A brand new trumpet !!

Those in my vicinity are warned. I am trying out my new acquisition and have no idea how it works !! I believe these objects of great musical content, when played by novices are capable of causing serious brain damage !!

The danger is not for tonight. I sleep now. But could be for later days, or nights ! More, night.

Good night !!

Amitabh Bachchan, with love and understanding and recommended ear plugs !!

    Hi Mr Bachchan,

I havn’t visited your blog for a few days now, but hope all has been well.

I really wanted to aetnd the London show but was unable to. It seems weird that I really want to meet you one day and usually think that when one day I visit Mumbai I will try and see you if possible and now you are in London and only 100 miles away from me (Wolverhampton) and I still can’t meet or see you.

    Take care.

    Dear Sir,

I hope you do get your well deserved rest! My best friend and I, who were at your concert on Sunday, spent much of today trying to catch a glimpse of you and your family in the local area, as we live so very close to the hotel (not that I will disclose where that is here!). We were sadly unlucky, but have hope that we shall see you the next time.

Once again, many thanks for an outstanding show on Sunday, we still haven’t stopped talking about it to anyone and everyone we come across, enjoy the rest of your time in London. Hope the city hasn’t disappointed you! My regards to Jayaji, Abhishek, Aishwarya and Shweta. May your family remain happy always,

With much love from Ruby and Bhavisha

    Dear Sir,

Congratulations on the huge success of your world tour! So many such shows have come and gone but none has been in news the way “Unforgettable” has been. It itself shows how successfull the show has been.

The success of your concert gives me immense happiness but there is one question which is boggling me. Why are such shows not held in India where the biggest fans of Bollywood reside? Sir, Can you throw some light on the issues surrounding the staging of such shows in India ? I really feel envious of the people living abroad who had the opportunity of watching the live performance of a legend like you. I just wish we could also watch you performing beyond the DVD’s and the cinemas…

Lots of love & best wishes…
    Harleen

  10. AS says:

    Dear Sir,

I attended your London show and after being initially being a bit bored, was excited to hear your “Voice” section and was truly amazed by the emotions you generated during the Deewar dialogue. However, wasn’t it too tough on Yash Chopra to wait for the whole day with unit to shoot the scene. Nevertheless, the scene was ultimate and so was your “repeat” on August 24th, 2008 in Lonodn O2 Arena. It really moved me and believe it or not that evening on 24th and made me much much much closer to my mother and I have really started respecting her love and care for me.

How long are you going to be in London? The reason I ask this question is because I bumped in to Abhishek at Harrods just 2 weeks before his marrigae in April 2007 and took a photo with him along with my brother and his family. I would really really really love tohave another pic with you and Jaya Aunty, If possible. I know this is a very common request and you may be getting 1,00,000, 000 such requests in a day !!!!!

Anyways, I was trying my LUCK!!!

Sir, You ROCK and I hope you continue to entertain us for much much longer.

    With Warm Regards and Love,

    Dear Amitabh Uncle,

Hello ! Thank you so much for taking the time to communicate with the common man via your blog site ! I just cannot believe that we do actually write to you (the great Mr Amitabh Bachchan) and that we are reading your interesting texts… it is a real treat for us, but I do have to mention that I just cannot bear to envision your eyes red and strained while replying to all those 300 odd fans… Uncle, please do not stress yourself like this. I hope you will take plenty of rest and sleep when you get back to Mumbai.
I read somewhere in your blog that you would be leaving for Paris in a couple of days. I wanted to tell you to visit a particular tea-room while you were in London; do you know about a place called The Wolseley ? It is situated near The Ritz Hotel in Green Park, Central London. We have been to this place a couple of times and I must say that they serve nice, quality food. Many celebrities do visit this place, and it is open from breakfast until dinner. Hope dinner at San Lorenzo was great.

I do realise that I being a common man, I have no right to direct you as to where to go and where not, but I just could not resist telling you about it, since you have only 2 days in London to enjoy yourselves.
Please do forgive me if I have made the mistake of dictating to you.
It’s always an honour to communicate with you, I shall be privileged all my life if you do happen to read my fan mail !
I love all your movies and I thank you a million times for entertaining us time immemorial !
Please do give my regards to Jaya Aunty, Abhishek Bhai and Aishwarya Bhabhi.

    With all my love,
    Sandhya

PS : Good luck with the new trumpet… I do not agree that it will cause any damage even if it is played by you because you are a LEGEND, and you are capable of doing anything and everything !

    Dear Sir,

I hope you have fun with that trumpet. In my neighbourhood someone is learning to play that instrument. I advise you to buy earplugs to your family and staff in advance.

I’m glad for your blog, as always. But despite it, I am still sad that tomorrow I’m not going to drive to Oberhausen and see your performance. It was to be the highlight of the month!

And I still wonder why the same promoters who defaulted now, are already announcing there’ll be another date for the show in - probably - November. It could be good news, but they are asking your fans to keep their tickets till then (instead of just giving them their money back). I wonder if it’s a foul trick of the promoters or if you and/or Wizcraft are really negotiating with those guys again, for another date so soon.

There’s much discussion about that topic on German and Dutch internet forums and sites of Bollywood fans. Everyone seems to be at a loss, not knowing if to trust those promoters or not…

A word of clarification would be much appreciated by many hundreds of people here!

    With love and respect,
    Amber

  21. Mohan says:

    Dear Sir,

I am big fan of yours and from past 2 housr I was reading all the posts and your replies to those posts on day 128.

I have noticed some of the fans were giving you advice to avoid commenting on media. Few of them suggested you should take criticism sportingly than justifying it. One of the fan said your tour success is speaking for itself then why you should be bothered about Mr D and others. Someone asked why Abhishek is not responding to media who is going against you for no reasons.

In some of your reply you were bit harsh as you may not like the way they said the things to you. Don’t mistake me for writing this but I think you should still think of ignoring media people than spending your valuable time commenting on them. I am with few of the above mentioned posts those who have concerns about your image.

I think many others including me are big fans of yours but do not always want to write, which delights you. Many times we point out the things, which we think may be useful to you and your health, we do the same with our parents as well. I think this should be the genuine feeling and love. If someone always writes what makes you happy then what’s the use. You must have those fans following as well who can say ‘Sir, please avoid doing this’, ‘Amitji, why you are doing this?’ etc etc.

I totally understand it’s your blog and you want to share your emotions with others and want to bring the truth in front of everyone. I respect your blog and every comment on it. But my genuine request to you, please take those fans seriously who try to point out your mistakes (in their view), those who sometime think you were rude and harsh in some of the posts. They are your genuine well wishers but trying to give you advice at their level.

Amitji, I know it’s very difficult to convince or give suggestions to someone like Big B but as true fan I always ask myself a question ‘what I would have done if you were my father?’ I would have probably adopted same way what few other fans did, talk to you in straight forward way. If you are angry with our comments then we would have accepted your anger but still would have not refrain from advising you next time.

You should spend more time on posting blogs which will give more inspiration and motivation to all the readers. I am talking about the one which you use to do on your KBC shows, those few good inspiring sayings delivered by you on start or end of the each show made my life.

Hope you will understand what I am trying to convey in my post though I wrote this post in hurry.

Take Care, Long Live Big B
Whatever way you respond to me, you will remain biggest inspiration throughout my life.

Please do reply to my post.

    Regards
    Mohan

    Dear Sir,
    Greetings
Being a director of a school, I always think what we can give to our students so that they can be a good citizen for this country. I have gone through your book ‘Sour Curry’ and kept it in our school library for children to read.

As an actor and that’s also with such a huge figure, who has crore and crores of fans all over the world. Is it not your responsibiltiy to give some good messages through your movies to the youth? Why are you working in such movie where Amitabh is smoking, drinking alchohal and dancing with almost nude girls? Do you ever think thousand of youth to follow that path. You can here say that being an actor it is character which you have to act or it is your profession. I am agree with you but I think being a actor or teacher or other professionals a true citizen have some social responsibilities also there.

The Almighty has not send you on the earth for yourself. On one call of Amitabh or Bachhan family, crore of their fans can do any thing.

Don’t you think, now the time come when every where we can hear and see the youth is on the wrong path? Is it not the proper time now for doing something constructive for the youth of this nation?

It is just an humble request and hope that in the coming days your valuable messages for the youth will certainly do some miracle among the youth and youngsters.

Your one message can change life of thousands.

This has been a great blog so far but would like you to make one request which would hopefully make it richer.
It would be great if you could talk about your views on acting, the craft, techniques, how you view the role of actors, relationship between directors-actors, how you approached some roles and your views on filmmaking in general. I think it would be great learning for students of cinema. This is one thing which we havent seen much from you on, in these 129 days and your sharing of your experience would be invaluable.

    back to you again,

i hope you had a nice evening with your family…sure every thing changes with time. sometimes the change is not so appealing to us…but that’s life, and we need to learn how to live with it in that way. especially nowadays no one is loyal to anything, not to a place, not to a person, not to anything. and many changes are happening around us so quickly.

is it time now to get back to India?!!…great that you have had an enjoyable and nice trip. yes, goodthings come to an end…quickly.

so you are giving warnings before trying your new trumpet. ok…try it and find out what will be the reaction. ;)

will be waiting for a new dangerous melody :)

    love you,

    Hi Amitji,

Not fair, apne sabhi ko reply kiya except me on Day 128 :(. I m abt to cry
I think the level you have reached in ur acting carrer as well as human, anyone hardly can reach. I would humbly suggest you to stop clarifying things which bothers you because they don’t deserve that.

I know i am not lucky to get response and I can completely understand that how hard it is for a celebrity like you to respond to coments individualy and evenfind some time to write a blog but will keep writing until I get response.

You may not remember the couple who touched your feet at The Marriot in Chicago. Just want to make clear as we know you discourage anybody touching your feet (seen in Bombay Talkies NDTV show). For us you are epitome of Acting. We touched your feet just with elderly respects and to get your blessings but I don’t think I got ur blessings ;). I promise you are still hottest persona for me and touching feet was just a gesture which we do for all our elders.

But I thought you wanted to learn the piano. Does destiny will you play the trumpet instead! ;-)

I totally emphatise with you when u say your eyes are red and hurt. I wanted to see what it feels to have a blog like yours and read the comments ( no i woudnt want to be in your shoes ;-) ). I decided to read all the comments in your blog for a day and just felt what u did. Eyes swollen and all red. So i do pity and appreciate you going over all the comments and even finding time to respond. However, i wonder if u have additional hours in a day :-)

Lot of love and regards from a young fan. Keep up the good work Sir.

You write so well, wish you would write on women empowerment and what you think should be the rights of ordinary middle class women. People would be affected by what you think. Women in India have started to work at positions similar to men, but not much has changed I would say. They still come home and cook and take care of the children, while the men come home and watch TV. This is seen accross various atrata of society. Is this really freedom of the women? What would you say?

    Dear Amitji,

Hello……………… seems like I am an early bird today………hope to get a hi ! from your end;)

I am a great fan of yours, Abhishek’s and Aishwarya’s…… exactly in that order.
Your charisma is outstanding…….. I am actually too young to even opine about a towering personality……… I can only bow and pay my respects.
I have been following your blog from day 1 and not even for a moment have i doubted that it is not being written by you!… I have this strange faith in your words…… You just have to say it…… and I believe it….. no questions asked…… no doubts……..

I don’t know if i can say this…… I seem to trust Abhishek even more……He has the most attractive, honest smile….. almost like a mirror to his heart….. and i believe he will be a far better human being than his parents. And I am sure he will make a superior father…..All this Thanks to you and Jayaji……

All this is heartfelt….I have mustered the courage to write to you today. I Am exactly not good with words…. and was hesitant to write to you for so long…..kind of embarrassed about my writing skills or rather the lack of it as compared to Your’s and other bloggers…..
If you can find a few seconds to go thru it….. , i think it will be worth my effort.
    God bless
    Best wishes

    Luv u forever
    Chetana

PS: Your blog about your mother was a read of a lifetime…….. she herself would have been so proud of you ….. and wherever she is seeing you from, she will bless you. On a personal level, I am even more determined to take care of my parents to the best and fullest of my capacity. I promise to myself and to you;)

    Dear Amitji,

You unknowingly draw out a brilliant analogy to the debate you started about Media. How a seemingly unstable man could ruin the business by making undue noises, is brilliantly feflected here. Same is true for media, where an irresponsible comment here and there could ruin the career and family life of one individual. Its thought provoking, truly!!

    My Dear Amit jee,

Thanks for replying to my request of posting pictures. I am looking forward to it. I could not stop smiling all day that you actually typed a response to what I had written sitting in my living room here in NY… times like this I feel so grateful for advances in technology enabling humans to connect like this ….wonderful !!

My husband is calling me ; we are going out tonight for the movies now… have a little more time so I can finish writing my thoughts…will write more later.

Just a bit about my husband - He has been an ardent fan of yours , just a bit too involved with his work these days so he gets his updates on you from me on the dinner table.
The only punch he has ever thrown in his life was because a friend of his in adoloscent years had snatched away his collection of your memorabilia :)
When he reached an age that he was allowed to go to the movies, he used to exhaust all his pocket money on your movies watching them multiple times - especially on the rare occasions when it was not doing so well, and coerced as many people to go with him as possible making it his personal agenda to make it a hit :)

He send his love… and my love for you is growing with every day that I read from you. My expression is not as strong as my appreciation and understanding of various aspects of your dynamic persona.
    Love you FOREVER.
    - prats

P.S: I am very hurt and anguished at this wicked propaganda against you and family. I have some more thoughts about this media problem… some ideas that I will come back to later. More needs to be done to contain this outrageous behaviour and try and put an end to this shame or at least make them suffer too as they make others suffer.

    Dear Mr Bachchan.

What a heroic effort on your part to respond to so many comments. I would like to plead with fellow posters not to be so emotional about not getting individual responses. As we are all aware, he is a busy man! I must admit, that our society is a tad emotional and dramatic when it comes to such matters. I think the fact that he posts a comment each day, is pretty amazing dont you think? To expect responses to 300 responses a day in my eyes is quite unreasonable. I hope people cut you more slack.

    Have a good day.

    OH MY GOD !

FIRSTLY! WE ALL LOVE YOU ! Nothing – not even nothing can stop our love & respect for you..!

So, Please RELAX…RELAX and RELAX !

Yes, there was something salty, not everything was sweet in yesterday’s blog and that’s why we also just waited – we knew there was some misunderstandings and you will clarify those ! That’s why we decided to remain neutral as we strongly believe that there CANNOT be anything wrong from your side!

We know now – and after your clarifications, we understand how you must have been feeling about ‘that particular media’ and what you must have gone through on the stance that media have taken.

Our suggestion is, Sir – Just Forget It !!! You Are Way High Above Certain Section of Biased Media…and also please, please, please….
Please…DO’NOT React to everything that comes across your way! Like we never read this interview in the ‘paper’ but now we know all about it! Hence, a little bitter for many like us. Ignore! – could have been the easy and healthy choice.

BUT, BUT, BUT and multiply them by the population of India – You will never lose any ‘fans’ and ‘die hard’ fans for a wee bit just because of this – You Aura Is Eternal !!! and you are so magnanimous to all of us!

However, it’s good that you clarified this today – Now, please don’t worry or lose sleep, else we will need to worry and lose our sleep thinking you are in unhappy or troubled – We hate all the things in the world that make you worry or unhappy…so feel like it was a thingy!

We remain ‘DIE HARD’ to You & Even Much More…

(¨`•.•´¨) We are always with you!
    .`•.¸(¨`•.•´¨) Keep Smiling!

    My Dearest Mr. Bachchan,
Thanks for forwarding my message to Mrs. Bachchan.. greatly appreciated.
I don’t wish to take much of your time as you have your hands full from us “Regular Bloggers” but one question that I always wanted to ask you, (and thanks for this great Big Adda I now can) please share exactly what’s The First thing that pops into your head when you think of your movie title, “SHAKTI?” To date me kick an empty can if found on street thinking of you. There are so many classic scenes created in this movie that I can write forever, I can still visualize by simply closing my eyes. One in particular is the scene where you enter to Rakhi Ji’s dead body. Without a single word, your emotions & actions (especially gripping & comforting the arms of The Great Mr. Dilip Kumar) while crying silently & trying to hold back the tears but you two just cannot are BEYOND WORDS, it is an out of body experience each and every time when witnessing this scene. Ah! Just got Goosebumps thinking about it! Please, if it is not too much to ask, simply share something about this.

    Always Love and Prays,
    Obby C
