New York, NY USA August 19, 2008/ writing for August 18, 2008 9:30 am
I wrote a whole piece on what I had said earlier about a discussion on the media. And… no I have not lost it.. I needed to review what I was going to put across and make it more general and comprehensive rather than personal. Though much of what it shall entail will be looked at as personal, I am afraid that cannot be avoided. Also it was involving mentioning incidents, copies for reference, names of journals and journalists. I wanted to keep that out. Many of the journalists and editors that I have met and talked to since the starting of the blog have shown and expressed that they would not like to be mentioned by name. I wanted to review that. So the post has been saved and kept as per the million suggestions from readers how to do that and shall find space later.
Having deviated from my topic of the blog I found myself in the mood of some indulgence and took the family out for lunch. It was a wonderful afternoon. Not too warm here in Manhattan. An Italian restaurant, both outdoor and indoor. You know the kind that spills over on to the pavement. Small compact and cozy. And excellent food. Wonderful time spent. And then a walk down the streets and avenues just taking in the atmosphere.
Some meetings were then held in the room with the event managers. I wanted to suggest some additions for the concert in terms of how I could enhance my performance. That went off well. Then it was back to the Olympics and slumber.
More later

ps : I find that most or at least 90% of the comments on the blog are from those that reside in USA. Do others feel that too or am I seeing too much in this ??

Yipee!! A new post!!

Hi Mr. B,
Look at it this way. The Indians abroad do not have as much access to you as much as people in India do because everyone takes it for granted just like freedom, or being Indian, or whatever else. When you are abroad, it starts dawning on you that you are somewhere else, yet you carry with you the identity that were born with. This forum is an incredible way for those to connect with you who have been life long fans of yours , but sadly may not get the chance to interact with you other than a medium like this.
I hope that you get to come for a tour again.
Thank You

Dear Mr. Bachchan,
It sounds like you had lunch in Little Italy…is that correct? It is such a beautiful area isn’t it? I always hold my birthday dinners there. If you have time during your stay, I would also try China Grill (53rd and 6th Ave)…if you enjoy cocktails, then you must try the Lavender Kiss there. I am very glad that the family is enjoying Manhattan.

I feel that when you’re in a city, those people there feel so close to you. You’re right there….doing what they do….eating what they do……just sharing the same environment and they want to share that with you and maybe comment on it. But you have fans and well wishers from all over the world. Just my opinion…..
Amazing ….your blog has become part of my morning routine and this is the first time I’m commenting. I didn’t know what to say….maybe I still don’t. But I’m happy for the opportunity.
Many good wished and blessings to you, your family and entire crew. Keep safe!

Hi Sir,
I have reading your blog , since the very first day- you started it and read it everyday, as if I read a newspaper each morning. obviously, I am a great fan of your work and I think you are one actor in india, who has done great work over the years and inspite of your being in the industry for so many years, you have both aged gracefully and also progressively done lovely roles and films. Unlike other senior actors, you have maintained the standard of work and also , in fact been more experimental than when you were younger. I grew up watching you as an angry young man and then along with the generation, you have also grown up and kept up with the turn of the century. A “BOOM”, A “NISHABD” was in there and at the same time, you have done “BLACK” , “EKALAVYA” ,”SARKAR”, “”CHEENI KUM”etc. awesome resume indeed. I am most impressed by the fact, that you are such a great writer. In spite of being super busy, you have the time to blog everyday. I really appreciate that. I started a blog last year and I always complain about the lack of time, and my posts are very irregular. After seeing you, I have decided I will make a schedule and stick to it , as long as writing posts goes. So, thank you for that.
I could not see your concerts, but hope to catch it on DVD eventually. I live in the US, moved here from hyderabad about 7 years ago and thx to you and the movie industry, I miss my home a little lesser
cheers sir. may god bless you.
My sincerest regards.

i agree majority of responses are from USA, including me. The reason is simple India is a poor country with a very weak infrastructure. Majority of people do not have access to internet and even if they can afford the access its not available consistently. This is a disease that continues to haunt this nation and until politicians and citizens alike learn to take pride in their nation the country will continue to experience such circumstances for a long time to come.

Mr. Bachchan,
Your blog is being read in all parts of the world. We are in Netherlands and reading your blog and getting an excellent insight into your world with the window through the blog.
The surge of response from the US maybe linked to your show in the US. This would (hopefully) change a bit as you land into Europe for your perfomances here.
One important question to you —>
It is remarkable that you find time to write so much at length and details in the blog. But do you feel more at ease in typing your thoughts or penning your thoughts?
Sometimes people are more comfortable and expressive with the computer (specially the internet generation) but many times people prefer to pen their thoughts.
The way I read your expressive and imaginative thoughts (specially your trip to school at Nainital and your ode to your mother), it seems that you have always been very much at ease in writing or keeping a diary. So was it easy for your to adjust to this medium of expression or did you feel ill at ease initially (maybe with the typing speed and so on)?
Whatever your answer to this is, I sincerely hope that your blog initiates more Indians (from all walks of life) to start writing and keeping a blog …… imagine what a legacy of cultural transition we would be leaving behind for the generations ahead!
We as a country are going through a major economic and cultural transition that we have never seen or experienced. And people like yourself can probably see this when you visit and do shows across the globe.
In fact, this generates one request from me ——
When you have completed the tour, it would be great if you could write a bit on your experience with interacting with the various Indian diaspora that your met during your visit and also state what in your eyes have changed over the years with this diaspora (good and bad ….. like the level of awareness, civic sense, affluence, sense of pride etc). It would be interesting to see your observations on this.
Also how has the perceptions of the outside world changed towards you during the tour (like your experiences in the hotels, restaurants, airlines etc). Though you have written about this in various forms during the last few days but it would be interesting to see what has changed and how.
As with the rest of the fan group around here ….. wish you the best of health and happiness for you and your family.
Regards,
a fan.

You are rigt Amitji. 90% comments would be from USA/UK. And I bet that out of those 90%, 60% comments would be from software engineers or in the software field, who became addicted to you, your blog and the internet. Rest of 30% would be from people who are ardent fan, retired and curious.
Because of the English medium, availability of internet and speed, comments from India would be only 10% on your blog.
Suggestion: Your blog should be interpreted in all prominent Indian languages and put on the internet, so that people can read in their languages. You must have heard about this suggestion, but would be nice if you ask your team to work on this. Also, they should be able to put their comments in their own language. How about that?

Dear Sir,
Comments 90% Vs 10%
I am in the opinion that the time you post the blog is generally midnight or early hours which will enable your fans from USA to see the same at the same time as it would be day time there and have their responces and comments posted in the first place.By the time we see and post our comments it will go to the last section.Do not think the English language is preventing any one from posting comments
This is just a personal observation and not intended to offend anyone
After all we are all one as your ardent fans

I agree with you sir. Most of the comment are from USA residents. I would say thats because internet is part of day to day activity here and easily available at work and office. Knowing that many Indians in USA are in IT industry, that makes it all the more easier. Also its ppl from USA that like to mention their location along with name, so all those ppl in India that write to you might not be putting in their location or many ppl in India read the blog but may not be replying to you. Oh by the way I am from Boston and drove to NYC to watch your show.. awesome!! petrified!! too good… I just dont have enough words to describe my experience!!
Respected Sir,
I guess you are right most or at least 90% of the comments on your blog are from those that reside in USA.
People here in united states or matter of fact people residing outside India use bollywood to connect to India , it gives us the feeling of India, feeling of home.
Life in US is so fast paced no one really care what other person is doing everyone is intersted in there life as there are too many things happening, all that happening to economy, everyone is worried about there job there future and we need some time to destress ourselves and what could be better than reading your blogs, reading some masala news in TIMES OF INDIA ,
Another reason I see I find that most of the comments on the blog are from people outside is availability of internet and computer to everyone here , back home internet is not a necessity yet,,, wait of few years and BIGADDA have to give u a separate server all together when you combine billion of people in India and billions outside India. The number of hits you will get everyday.
A suggestion FOR BIG ADDA
Why don’t you put a tracker or something on Mr. Bachchan blogs so that we know how many hits mr bachchan’s blogs gets everyday..
Before even checking my office email in the morning I go to your blog and see if there is something I miss.
I was reading a poem by Sri Chinmoy somewhere and i can totally relate you with this poem/…
INDIA - MUSIC- BOLLYWOOD- AMITABH BACHCHAN- SIGNIFICANCE OF LIFE
INDIA IS NOT JUST A PLACE.
India is not just a people.
India is the celestial music,
And inside that music
Anybody from any corner of the globe
Can find the real significance of life
Thanks

If you have also observed that 90% comments are from USA then please arrange some time to meet people who write on your blog. As i said earlier too that I really want to meet you in person even if it is for 2 mins. I feel so helpless thinking that i am here in queens which is only 15 mins away from Manhattan where you are staying right now and still i can not see you. It is a terrible feeling.

Hello Amit Sir,
You must have enjoyed the Italian food and some freedom of walking on street in NYC..So good to know that…
You said that 90% of the comments come from people who reside in USA…I think way of life is bit easier here in USA as compared to India..People in Metro cities live life on their edges…Extra hours of work, traffic, family and all other stuff make life very painful and most of the people suffer with stress..Since your medium of connection in Internet, it is still not as much widely spread across every home, like what is here in USA. People stay relaxed, donn work for extra hours, donn get stuck in traffic (In most states of USA, except for LA & NY), people like me work from home and that’s give a peace of mind to get connected with you.
My friends and family back in India, they do read your blogs everyday. They do feel blessed with your sincere dedication and wonderful writing. But they do say that stress and rush of life doesn’t give them proper time to think and connect with you in two way mode. You might have noticed that Indian folks do write back to your blogs on Saturday and Sundays…That’s what my frnds do from Delhi…But as I said, thta’s only one aspect. As Internet would spread wide across the country, as Internet would be a normal houshold stuff, people would write back to you…They won’t get stopped cuz deep down their heart, you reside from last 30-35 years and this is the finest medium to connect to you…
With much love, affection and regards,

So ok having a short break!
I both agree and disagree! The increase of U.S.A comments on the blog I feel has only started and increased when you started the Unforgettable tour! And many have logged in to say how much they enjoyed it since then though admittedly some of them have been regular bloggers before!
You might also find that comments from U.K, Holland, Germany will too increase just before, during, and specially after the tour! Though not as much as U.S.A coz of the obvious, population scale, and only one concert as per destination!!!
Ok gotta go!

Hello Sir,
You are right! most of the people who respond to your blog are from UK, US and I am from Canada.
I believe the reason is that we all have internet access at work and at home, and we all manage to find some time to read your blog and respond.
But the scene in India is different.
Most of the times Internet access is available in offices only, very less people have internet access at home and even if they have it at home , it doesn’t work properly as I always face problems when I chat with my dad who is in India.
Yes one more thing - I read your blog daily - religiously.
I was so restless since morning as I could not find a new entry in the morning.
So imagine, how important is your blog to me.
Now my basic necessity has changed - Roti, Kapda, Makaan and AB’s BLOG
Keep smiling.

Yes, Amitji. I also feel the same. there are 90% of the people replying are from US. May be because, this is the best way to stay connected to India or Indian superstar !! Also, I think - in US, the main source of entertainment is watching TV or surfing internet. Just over the weekend, we all friends were talking about how much fun we used to have in India when we were kids (btw, we are still kids but bigger kids in late 20s !!) - we used to climb the trees and there were so many fun activities which you can find only in INDIA !! 90% of the time when I am awake, I am either surfing on the internet or watching TV (That to Indian channels !!) - and yes, I am from Houston so I am part of that 90% janta !

I would like to start off by saying that even though i was born and raised in the west and live in chicago your positive influence remains undiminished. If anything, I would argue that u have a greater effect on our psyches than our brothers and sisters in the homeland. I feel this because when my parents came to the states in the early 70’s, the actual immediate connection they had with home and all its momories were thru watching Indian cinema. And when you think 70’s Indian cinema your name reigned supreme. So it isn’t an overstatement that you represented India and all its virtues to my homesick pardesi parents. You were the only pesona that I, as an imppressionable youngster, associated with my culture. In addition, living as a weak and insecure minority in the states, it was awe inspiring to see you (an Indian in his homeland) embody strength, virtue, and charisma.
I just saw your show in chicago and spent more than I ever have for any concert but, then again, it was you and it was worth every penny…..very entertaining and moving. My only crticism was that at the end, unlike the previous shows i had seen of yours, you didn’t say, “main vaapas zaroor aunga, zaroor aunga, zaroor aunga”…which might have confirmed my fears that you may never return for another show.
Anyways, I had decided to write on your blog a few days back but then I read Mr. Ghandi’s complaint and decided to see how it would end. As fate would have it, I was in line right behind Mr. Ghandi and family waiting to see you and of course was unable to get in as well. And for Mr. Ghandi’s information I am muslim and didn’t get in so there wasn’t any religous favoritism being played out that day as he had insinuated. I think Mr Ghandi has acted spoiled and been unfair in his criticism of u. he feels like he was “guaranteed” to see you which is proposterous. I was there, and it would have been a priveledge to see you but not for a second did I expect or be “guaranteed” to be in your presence.

Now I wish I could see yet another concert to see your enhanced performance.
After work yesterday I went to the Film Forum to see “We Are All Murderers” , an excellent film from 1952, part of their French Crime Wave festival. Superb acting and dialogue. I’ll probably see 2 more films today. As I walked out of the theater, I took a small flyer advertising The Best of Laurel and Hardy film series coming up at the Anthology Film Archives Sept 3-5 which I’m looking forward to. Sometimes I practically live at the Film Forum. Coming soon is a David Lean festival and then Alberto Sordi which I’m excited about.
I’m glad the rains and thunderstorms finally stopped and you had nicer weather for your strolls.

Good to know you are enjoying a normal existence in NYC and do not have to pose incognito to enjoy the smallest pleasures of life…
Heard you are a vegeterian… if so, how do you cope up with the challenges of eating out in the US ? My wife is a vegeterian since birth and the choices are very limited. For example in Italian crusine her options would be Eggplant Parmesan or Fettucini Alfredo( blant) and the warm bread dipped in olive oil. There are far more options for vegeterians in Thai and Greek food.
However after a few days of all that nothing beats dal chawal…
Enjoy…

Dear AB,
Your observation about 90% USA traffic should make us proud and at the same time we wish this blog gets millions from other parts of the world. Resposes on the blog is in no way berometer of your immense popularity all over. This is new midium and writing is very difficult and time consuming task. Net access and computer littercey (Including language) could also be factors.
Anyway, to change the topic completely may I write about Abhi. (1) He seems to have preserved child qualities-innocence and spotainity-which are very rare and one hopes him to never lose it. (2) By just looking at concert’s photos-he comes across as very very energetic and able-fun loving group leader (3) He seems to enjoy the most and willing to give out the most. (4) He seems to be very easy going and non prententious
U must be very proud of him and so pl proclaim it. We deserve to hear from u.

After religously reading your blog on a daily basis, I have finally plucked up the courage to make a post. I probably am one of the few South African’s who post here if not the first. It comes in response to you writing that there a majority of USA fans who post or comment here. Well seeing that I read the blog daily I guess I should let you know that your family is very loved and admired by myself back in South Africa and millions of other fans here as you may know.
I truly cannot wait for dates to be released for the Africa Leg of the tour. I am assuming you will be in Durban and maybe Johannesburg. I await anxiously for you and your family especially Aishwarya to spread your love and talent in our country. Not many people know that South Africa has one of the world’s largest Indian population and have a huge following of Indian Cinema.
Love to your family and many best wishes for the rest of the tour.

Like others, I also think the US-based comments on your blog have increased since you went there for your tour. Before that, I had the feeling that at least 50% of your co-bloggers came from India, the other half mostly from the US, and maybe three or four percent from other countries. Germany being way behind on that count, probably at 0,00001% - despite all my efforts…

Dearest Mr.Bachchan..
A fruitful observation from someone who has followed your blog since its inception.
Previously, you would be blogging from India and at a set time ( which usually was late night) Almost all of us regular bloggers from India and around the world had our mental clocks set to check out bigadda before bedtime or first thing in the morning.
Unfortuantely due to your travel schedule for the unforgettables, the blog posts now come at different times during the day. I think, it has been hard for the audience in India to keep up or check the post.
This is not a compliant but a simple observation. We are more than glad and grateful that you take out time for us.
I guess you are figuiring out the country from the IP address of the comment writer, since the Reply section does not require you to mention the residence of the reader.

Dear Big B,
I agree with you observation, that 90% of the blog responses come from USA.
As some other readers has pointed out, I think internet accessibility and way of life in US, may be the key reasons for this.
Enjoy your stay in NY and come back soon to US for Unforgettable part 2 and pls try to cover cities like Washington DC that were missed this time.
Best regards,
Krishna

My most beloved Mr.Bachchan,
Wonderful to hear from you again. And moreover to learn that you are indeed making the best of the time and freedom of movement for some good family time. It must feel great to be able to move like a common man without the danger of getting mobbed!!SOMETHING UNTHINKABLE IN INDIA:-O:-O:-O I’M SURE.
Your observation about most bloggers from the US could be right, although it is amazing for me to know how well-known you are throughout our planet, especially your NON-Indian admirers. And my personal view is that it is irrelevant which part of the planet they all come from……..WHAT UNITES US ALL IS THE ADMIRATION: RESPECT AND LOVE FOR YOU…..IT’S A NEW FAMILY AND LOOK AT HOW LARGE IT IS!!! GOOD JOB MR:BACHCHAN
:)
As usual, all you do is BIG and you are rightfully termed as BIG B. It just can’t get bigger.
Great admiration to read about you wondering how to enhance your performance. GIVE ME A BREAK!! ENHANCE? Is there any room left for improvement? How modest you always are with yourself!!
Enjoy all the leisure time you have. Enjoy Manhattan, “the city that never sleeps”…..You blend well with NYC….The busy B that seldom sleeps
:)
LOVE & PRAYERS AS ALWAYS……..LILY D’PENHA-FRANKFURT-GERMANY
P.S: BTW, it’s time for some personal attention to certain bloggers. Give us feedback, we all dream of that one name being mentioned!!

Dear Mr Bachchan
I am beginning to think that comments from the UK are being barred by your moderators - because several of mine aren’t getting through
Or have you put a bar on any mentions of cats? My last post was to identify myself to your readers as an animal-loving Brit.
I’m one of those oddities with not a single Indian in the family, unless you count my Bengal cat, who is descended from the South East Asian Leopard Cat, and whose ancestors are roaming India.
But despite my cultural impoverishment, I love your films very much.
Love from Daisy

We love you here in US, however I have noticed that your fans from India do write elaborate posts trying to emote their love for you!

Since it’s not warm there daddy, so i beg you to take care of your precious health in order not to catch cold - god forbid it - once again. I’m going to read day 119′ post now, i’ll be with you soon my precious diamond. Love

Hi Amit Uncle,
The perception is that most of your readers are from the US, however, I think this is because you are touring in the US at the moment. I think as your move across the globe, the readers’, locations will change…Many of your fans that leave notes here, that are located in the Europe, Austrailia, Africa, tell you that they can’t wait to see you; Readers in India, usually ask for you to come home. Those of us in Canada ask for you to come back and those of us in the US ask you to stay…so to answer your question…You aren’t reading too much into it, it’s just a matter of where you happen to be in the world at the time.
Much Love,
PB

Dear Mr. Bachchan,
I have noticed that there are many more comments from readers in the US. The US has highest number of households with highspeed internet access. Also, the majority of Indians in the US have desk jobs, we are in front of our computers all the time. Some of us have bookmarked your blog on our work computers, our work Blackberries, our home computers and our personal i-Phones. We have access to your blog all the time.
I also think the interest has peaked because of the Unforgettable Tour. As you have come to our cities, we have been excited to hear abour your experiences here and the prospect of seeing you. Just really excited to walk on the same pavement as you. I am in Manhattan, and live and work near your hotel, several times on my way back and forth to work I have seen you or others in the tour. Even had the pleasure of talking to your daughter briefly.
It is great to get on your blog as well as the Unforgettable blog and then hear what you thought of Tao or wonder what Italian restuarant you had lunch at, if it is one that I frequent.
I am curious about the new ideas you have for the show. I may have to fly to Europe next weekend to see yet another show.
Regards,
Reshma Patel

My My…. “An Italian restaurant… you know the kind that spills over on to the pavement…”
“Spill Over…” Some Stylish writing this!
And what is this that you added later:
“…how I could enhance my performance”?????
As if YOU - of all the people - need to enhance your performance!!!!
(This doesn’t mean that others need to).
And yes Sir, even we have noticed that most comments now are from people residing in US… but I guess its more ‘cos you are amidst them now. WHen you’ll be back in India, WE will take over again!!!
COME BACK SOOOOOOOOOOON!!!!!!!!!
MISSING YOU BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Amitji,
I am not surprised that USA loves you….I was at the Chicago concert and it was amazing to see the standing ovation you received when you first came on stage. The real surprise was that people kept standing throughout your performance while applauding you! No other actor received that kind of a reception. What a phenomonal performance!
We drove over 2 hours from Milwaukee to see the concert. The only negative comment I heard from others around me was that they wished you had been on stage longer and that while the promoters had adverstised Madhuri, there was disappointment that she did not show up. Also, some suggested that you not do back to back shows on the same weekend (Atlantic City and Chicago on Sat and Sun respectively) due to the unreliable airline industry here and stress from such a tiring schedule.
As an FYI, while Indian films are regularly shown at AMC Mayfair here in Milwaukee (currently Singh is King and Bachna Ae Haseeno are showing daily), for some reason none of your movies this year have been screened here. I wonder if that is because all your 2008 releases - Bhoothnath, Sarkar Raj, God Tusi Great - are all released by EROS? Please do something to address this situation so that your fans in Milwaukee can see your movies in a decent cinema like our colleagues in Chicago. I had to see Bhoothnath and Sarkar Raj on dvd but thoroughly enjoyed your performance, which was spectacular. Still waiting to see God Tusi……
Thanks,
Anoop

Dear Mr. Bachchan,
great that you are having a good time relaxing and having some fun.
sometimes I go through and read some of the comments on the blog…and actually i share the opinion that comments from people who live in USA have increased since the start of the concerts. as it was their chance to comment on the shows, sending their feedbacks, and delivering to you their feelings of excitment and joy.
I don’t know about the actuall percent…but iam sure that people from several countries and nations come to your blog…love reading your thoughts and sending you their comments.
with love and lots of wishes,
Rasha Zayed.

Hi,
I keep reading from you that you have lost your blog in the process of it being uploaded because of unavailability of server or network. If I may I can suggest you a simple solution for it. Instead of typing your blog/musings directly on your website you can type it in a word pad or a notepad. And once you are done with it and you are sure of network connectivity just copy and paste you blog on the website and upload it. In the process of uploading even if you lose the network connection you can still go back to the saved copy on your system and repeat the process all over again.
Best regards and have a wonderful day.

Hi Amit Uncle,
One more thought came to mind regarding your question of more US readers…could you also be looking at the email addresses; as most of them probably end in “.com” which would lead one to believe more US readers. Just a thought
Much Love,

Dear Amit ji
I agree most of them r from US n UK but it is because of concert and easy access to internet for them.. here, in India very few people has internet access in home.. so even though they want to comment, they cant.. Even i didnt have one month back.. i used to read ur blog in college or in my friend’s place.. And u wont believe but i got net connection 20 days back just for u and ur blog………:-)
Take Care
Love u

Instead of typing your blog/musings directly on your website you can type it in a word pad or a notepad. In the hindsight if you type it on a application like MS Word (there is another version available for Mac too) you can have access to spell check. I have not read any of the comments today but I have noticed the number of the UK comments are increasing slightly almost like you are more tangible now that you are winging your way towards us…
That reminds me, someone hit me with a ticket for the 25th, please! I am trying to delay my husband organising a party here for the Sunday..because once he pencils that one in, wild horses will not get it erased! Bank holiday Monday the following day, after all.
I do tend to get lucky sometimes.
Amitji, let’s do a deal. You use your untold influence to get me a ticket and also make a call out for someone in the Northwest to drive me to London and back (you don’t want your Indian daughters to be endangered now, would you?) and I promise I will let you call out my name. I will stand up and give you a royal wave. Now, how lucky can one get? Win win situation!
Clutching at any straws! Never know unless you ask and cheekily too! All in a good cause.
So see you on Sunday? That’s a date!

I think it is very prudent of you to consider not mentioning some names in your journal. In my view, even when people have not asked to remain anonymous, it would still be better to ask their consent before having their names mentioned, especially when the subject is sensitive.
Happy to hear you had spent some quality time with your family. Great Britain is very excited about their 16 Gold medals. That is quite impressing.
Onto your next entry..
